can we stop and resume plot creation, or we need to do it manually by appending next nonce range?

I had my laptop close twice (thanks to my kids) and plotting resumed without me having to do anything after logging back in...I think as long as the java window and the command window were not physically closed, then it should resume. Although if a hard reboot is done than you might have to replot from whatever number it ended at (or whatever number you can deduce it ended at given the size of the plot file you have  generated upon restart).

Yea, this is an annoying issue, I just started 3 2TB plots on another computer, and it's going to take quite a while... if it gets shut off for any reason I will have to manually figure out where to restart the plotting...

There should be a way to check which nonce was finished last, so that we can start from the exact correct location when these sort of things happen.

Alright, I have come up with another question...

I have a system with 3 2TB drives in it. I am currently plotting them all, my question is this... Do I need to run multiple copies of the miner? Or will the one miner see all 3 drives? Right Now I have 3 copies running and it seems to work, but yea, I would like to know if I actually have to do that or not.

Thanks!

You will have to run a miner on each drive...and each will likely need it's own account number. I plotted x2 500 gig HDD's, with the same wallet number, but different plot #'s. I found that the exact same deadlines were being reproduced for both drives. I wonder if the plot generation is done based on the account number, and if that somehow predisposes the plot #'s to be something specific regardless of what drive they are created on?

I have also noticed that I found 2 blocks with my newest drive that was still plotting.and each night I restart my miners and usually find at least 1 block each night (and these are only 250 Gig HDD's, pretty neat, huh?)

I have actually re-plotted several drives with new accounts because I was having a lot of luck with brand new "still-plotting" drives hitting blocks their first night running. I have now settled on my 4 drives which are hitting paydirt regularly (as these seem to have some sort of lucky number combination that keeps coming up).

I also noticed that deadline time has nothing to do with how long you have had the drive or how big it is, My 15 Gig plot hit 2 blocks, and it was spitting out 200K deadlines all day then popped a 211 deadline. LOL

Thank you for the reply, I am going to fix it now. You think you actually need a new account for each drive, why not just different nonce numbers? hmm...

So im trying here, getting error:

? Any idea?

are you still plotting the plots? That happens when you are still plotting, and mining at the same time.

40k BURST for sale, PM with reasonable offers. Thanks!

Monero will be mime choice, considering price of electricity and price of this coin, at least in my country.

Try to find some coin that have good market price and low diff, also find some coin on market that have good rates or try multipool.

Except for the fact the OP was talking about SCRYPT, and XMR is about as far from SCRYPT as a chicken sandwich.
2668  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient Proof of HDD Capacity Mining | No IPO, No Pre on: August 13, 2014, 10:25:14 PM
Diff seems to be rising fast (based upon deadline numbers)!

It is rising fast.

Wish we could make these plots faster  Undecided

I have an idea about fast plot generation, will test it tomorrow when my 4TB drive comes in!

BTW: BURST-HLDE-XC5P-AYXL-7P49P found 2 blocks in a r0w (#644+#645)

Unfortunately the delivery of the 4TB drive was delayed. This was bought as refurbished and the site showed 1 in stock. It appears it was not in stock at all.

That sucks, luckily I have about 9 TB of free space to mess with on a server at work, Then if all goes well, I am considering building a massive storage array, just for BURST, that's how much I like it!
2669  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I am out of the mining game :( on: August 13, 2014, 10:07:01 PM
So im out of the mining game.

Getting asics importet from china is too expensive -.-
Electricity is too expensive in my country 0.14$/kwh -.-
and my block erupters isnt making me anything.

this game have only been a waste of money so far.

GL on your mining guys Smiley dont make the same mistakes as i did.

Good luck in your future endeavors!
2670  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Beginner Hobby Miner w/ Jalapeno on: August 13, 2014, 08:40:22 PM
Are you actually defending him stealing? Wow, as if his circumstance might somehow make it ok to steal??
You are also a scumbag.

What are my thoughts ?
You will never make 350$ back with jalepeno , and stealing electricity from a business , and or taxpayers in the case you work for the government just makes you a fucking scumbag.
Even if you work for a bank , who is in fact the man, your still a scumbag for stealing.

Wow, some people here are real assholes.

Ain't that the truth. Gopher09 has no idea who OP is or what OPs personal situation is.

OP, if you want to buy the jalapeno, and you can afford to spend the money, my opinion is to do it. Buy it, plug it in, watch it chug away. You seem like you want to get into mining and I think you should. Get into it. Get your feet wet and have fun. Learn all you can about mining and the bitcoin network. Earn some bitcoin and then spend it. Give it away. Buy some, sell some, save some, get active in the bitcoin community. Talk to your friends about it. Talk to your family about it. Spread the word. Get others interested in bitcoin. Just don't expect to get rich mining, it won't happen. Unless you plan on going balls deep and even then it's a risky move.

I see so many people on this forum telling people not to get into mining because it's not worth it anymore. I call bullsh!t on that. Miners secure the network, even the little guys like us. We contribute.

he could have a scenario like I do at work, in which the business pays a flat fee to rent the space, and doesn't pay any extra for power, therefore technically I would not be stealing from anyone, as the power is free. Yes, I know someone has to pay for it, but if it was that big of a deal then they wouldn't offer free power to their renters. Just saying.

I have to say. I have had more fun figuring this out then I have since I first started mining.

Even if the whole thing fails this is fun  Grin

Kudos to the dev.

So True, same here!

me too, this has completely refreshed my interest in mining! Awesome!

I just realized that I have another question...

Do you have to run the wallet on every computer that you are using to mine? Or can you just run the wallet on 1 machine, and use the others just as miners without the wallet running?
2674  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient Proof of HDD Capacity Mining | No IPO, No Pre on: August 12, 2014, 09:02:34 PM
What height are we at? I don't have any confirms so want to be sure it is working right.

I am at height 645 with 110'000 unconfirmed.

Same here, 110'000 unconfirmed!

Mine is saying 651 height.
2675  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LAT] LATIUM - World's First Viral CryptoCurrency on: August 12, 2014, 08:34:39 PM
Latium admin have worked hard to make this system last. Let's keep it up by referring more people! I have a feeling big things are coming out of LATIUM!

TO THE MOON AND BEYOND!  Grin

This is all very well, but how are we adding value to the coin? We are not going to add value just by sitting around and up-voting LAT on all the exchanges! Using LAT to buy ad space is a start, but maybe we need to look at providing services for LAT. Are there some brave souls on here who are ready to accept LAT for their services in lieu of FIAT?

I am waiting to see how many people step up to the plate!

This is a great idea...

I don't know what kind of services I can offer over the internet, but I would be willing to sell any of the computer parts that I am currently selling, for LAT. I have video cards, motherboards, hard drives, memory, etc etc for sale, even some older but still good laptops. I don't know how much this will help... but yea...

I can also offer computer repair and remote assistance for PC related problems for payment in LAT, I have been a PC technician for 12+ years, and I can start by offering those services.

If any of you advertising peeps, would like to advertise my service, that would be great! Let's see if we can start getting LAT popular!

Is it worth to create lower nnonces? Or just create from 100k? i only wanna use 4GB but i wanna mine some coin what are you thiunk?

4gb is.. not a lot. Be prepared to do a whole lot of waiting, but hey, you might just get lucky! Simply start creating from 0, I don't assume there's any difference in 'efficiency' on higher nonces, unless you actually have more (size)
The amount of nonces you can generate on 4gb is around.. 1600. So you'll be at a pretty big disadvantage compared to some of the 10TB+ miners.

I know 4GB is not much ,but i not have 100$ for new HDDs and my HDDs are working fine so i not wanna get another. Who invest more get more back. This is the problem with every cryptocoin. There should be a coin where the lower hashrate get more coin.

Lol... lower hashrate gets more... interesting concept, but I doubt it will ever take off. Tongue

One last thing... While I was messing around I started a second run_generate starting at 0 as well, I didn't let it run very long, but it did start... will that have caused any issues?
2678  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient Proof of HDD Capacity Mining | No IPO, No Pre on: August 12, 2014, 05:09:59 PM
I guess basically all I need to know, is how to add more hard drive space to the mining... or whatever you would call it...

Do I start over with 800001, or do I make a new one with 64000000 or something else larger?

If on the same drive, then you would simply start another generation beginning with the plot number after your last one (taken from the plot folder).

If on a second drive, you will have to generate a new series of plots (so you can start at 0 again) and then start a new instance of the miner on that drive...

perfect, thank you!
2679  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient Proof of HDD Capacity Mining | No IPO, No Pre on: August 12, 2014, 05:06:15 PM
Yes, basically. 800000 generated nonces is about 200gb, since they're 256kb a piece. You can make multiple plots by upping the numbers in run_generate, thereby increasing your used space in total, or you can choose to make one giant plot by calculating how many space you're willing to use and how much nonces you'll need to fill said space, and then inputting those numbers in run_generate.

So, once my test 800000 is finished generating, I can start another one with a larger number, and that won't affect the one that I already started? Or will I have to start it at a number above 800000 in order for it to not ruin what I have already generated?
