how much I can expect to mint with 5000 for ex a month?

it would probably take about 10 weeks to find a block with only 5000 nxt. that block could have up to 1000 nxt in it if someone registered an asset, but most likely it would have between 0 and 25 nxt.

*edit* forging will not be profitable until the demand for space in blocks exceeds the supply.

I can't register alias because of invalid account ID, but i'm sure i typed that correctly. How do i register an alias?

it sounds like you are making the wrong sort of transaction. go to aliases tab and then near the top right you will see "register alias". click that button and try there. it shouldn't ask you for an account id.

Hi people,

Please give this new video by Cassius and d13id (voiced by joefox) as wide a distribution over social media and sites you know as possible.

I love the simplicity of it Smiley

Absolutely amazing video!

they are always going on and on about catch phrases in that thread on nxtforum. actually "join the evolution of money" isnt bad and i dont remember it in that list. oh also yes, that video was very good indeed.

Anon,

I'm curious if you've seen http://www.nofiatcoin.com/ ?

yea I've seen it. its a very fancy website but i just don't get it. How do you issue one asset thats backed by so many different things with so many different values? how do you know how many tokens you need to redeem for a given coin? if they say than how do you know how do you know that they are giving you the right amount for the number of tokens you sent when everything is valued differently and the relative disparity in value between each thing is changing so often and so subjective to begin with.

Did you read the FAQ? http://www.nofiatcoin.com/faq.html

The consider certain coins bullion and use the value of gold an silver of their holdings to determine what they will redeem an XNF for. People trade XNF as well, so the value of it on the exchange isn't the same as the value nofiat will give you if you redeem for gold.

Also, they say you can request certain types of bullion, but there is no guarantee that is what you will get.

ya that's what im talking about. 1 of my tokens equals 1 ounce of silver, now and always, and you always know exactly what you are getting because all of the bars will be the same. none of this estimating the total value of our holdings, dividing it by the total number of coins, then estimating the value of different coins and sending you the estimated redemption amount, then refunding some of the nofiatcoins depending upon our own internal calculations. this is all the sort of stuff i have tried so hard to avoid. i mean of course i thought about it, it would make my life so much simpler, but i just dont think it would be nearly as useful as the service i am trying to provide.

.....
The legacy of Rachel Carson is that tens of millions of human lives – mostly children in poor, tropical countries – have been traded for the possibility of slightly improved fertility in raptors.  This remains one of the monumental human tragedies of the last century.  It is shocking that Dunn, an assistant professor of biology, remains ignorant of Carson’s shortcomings, and deplorable that university students are exposed to a scientist who manifests such ignorance and failure to respect the norms of science.  Likewise, Nature’s decision to publish Dunn’s commentary reflects either an antiscientific bias or a failure of peer-review.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The only mistake would be to believe those people care more about humans than mosquitoes

I would beg to differ with your article's negative take on Rachael Carson.

The problem is not that she was utterly, flagrantly wronger than wrong.  It is that norms of behavior in society, including the political parties and the legal/administrative institutions, could not and would not act at any pace - whether swiftly or leisurely - to correct the errors in science and judgement regardless of the negative consequences of leaving the status quo.

As we experience a quickening of the rate of scientific progress, it is important to recognize these failings.

As of now in 2014, do we know if DDT would bring more harm than good, based on the latest research?

Right now Brazil is introducing a genetically modified mosquito into the wild. Is that solution better than using DDT?

i mean if it gives cancer or something to the birds that eat it i dont think that bird would give cancer to the cat that eats the bird. that is to say, its hard to see the negative effect traveling all the way up the food chain to us.

much better. i know it doesn't look like much. i know its very dull. but if you will look closely at this picture compared to the previous one, this time the tumbler got almost all of the scratches out. this means that when i apply the polish it should look amazing.

i was right by the way. the problem is that the dry steel wool wasn't getting out the scratches from the 220 grit and a little bit of gun oil allowed the steel wool to abrase the surface in a way that it couldn't when dry. Grin

learning so much yet so much more to learn. im quickly learning that this is an art as much as it is a science.

2735  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 27, 2014, 11:30:31 PM
Until proof of even FPGAs are posted, ASIC = Pulled out of Obama's ass vaporware and not A real NSA product.

Proof of FPGA is not required, we know that FPGA can do it if someone programs them to. However their acceleration factor is not that big and it's highly unlikely to find thousands of them.

ASIC = I don't know. But even at a 500x acceleration factor compared to a GPU (say a 3 MHs GPU / 1.5 GHs ASIC) it'd take HUNDREDS of them to pull stuff like 800-900 gigahash. FPGAs even more so because their acceleration is much closer to GPUs. I saw the link the guy gave as "x11 fpga program" which was bullshit, but hashpower is hashpower and it was tremendous.

Quote
The main propagandist behind that campaign is cryptohunter who has been pushing this in order to discourage Darkcoin miners since it claims ASIC resistance. If ASICs existed you mean to say they were tested on the crapcoin first and never on DRK ?

If I were the NSA I'd make sure to have hardware ASICs for every single algorithm out there. If I want to break a wallet, or control a crypto network, I won't do it with GPUs. The budget for acquiring such equipment is pretty low for their standards. They could control 51% of bitcoin right now if they spent something like 100-200mn in ASIC for SHA256 and destroy bitcoin. Even 1 bn budget for ASIC hardware is peanuts compared to protecting the hegemony of the dollar.

I believe they have the theoretical possibility of overriding every single POW network out there with 51% but a POS coin would remain resilient from a POW attack as it works through POS staking. So they would have a mess at their hand with an anonymous coin that remains resilient. So their hardware would be useless for 51% override. But it wouldn't be useless in the coin generation phase (POW). That's where I suspect they put their hardware on and started mining with that insane hashrate to get a 51% stake and control the future of the coin. If they didn't manage that, they'll manage it through buying a few more to get there.

The absence of that hashrate from every other x11 coin is a huge indicator. The fact that, suddenly, 900gh of x11 hashpower appeared out of nowhere just to mine XC, doesn't "just" happen.

Government agencies like the NSA have a lot to gain from ensuring DRK is a major success...  Governments have more to hide than the average punter out there, it would make funding their wars offshore so much more efficient...

except they can only afford that stuff because of money printing and they cant print crypto.

i don't need him specifically to tell me where to find the literature. it would be super great if anyone would. surely you guys learned about this new pos algo before you invested Huh you must have learned about it from somewhere.

Friendly advice...  you can't pull off playing stupid when everyone already knows you're NOT!   Wink

rofl. my wife gets so mad at me all the time for playing dumb. Cheesy

seriously though i really am surprised how many people invested without the dev releasing any info on the pos algo (which i legitimately didn't know he hadn't until just now)

where can i find literature on the proof of stake algo and the transaction boosting?
I think its best if you PM qora.
He checks his PM more than he checks this thread.

This very blackcoin  Cheesy they even superimpose the logo onto the shields

Not how I roll   Grin

don't follow their thread. i asked a half a dozen times how they protect against dos from people registering as participants in a coinjoin transaction and then failing to sign the transaction and never got a satisfactory explanation.
2739  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: May 27, 2014, 08:13:30 PM
it didn't turn out so great because i didnt get out all of the scratches from the 220 with my steel wool. I went back and sanded it again with the 220 and the steel wool, but this time i used some gun oil with the steel wool. this made a huge difference. I'm confident its going to come out MUCH nicer after its done tumbling again. stay tuned for better pics.
2740  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: May 27, 2014, 08:08:17 PM
I bought my tumbler yesterday from harbor freight. Here are some pictures and a before and after.

There is still one more step left. I purchased a dremel tool and flitz from ebay.

I think im going to try the 220 sand paper and the steel wool again and then try tumbling it again. I think it should look better than it does by this step.

How many % do you lose by tumbling?

almost nothing at all. 95% of what you lose, you lose during the sanding with 100 grit sand paper. over all i lose about a gram on each bar this way. this translates to about 0.6USD
