How can they have had cash flow problems when they got paid up front?!

I find it hard to believe everything was above board

that is the question isnt it.

one theory (which i believe) is that mineority kept all/most eth payments as eth instead of cashing in at least enough to cover immediate and an amount of future cash needs. then of course eth tanked.

one rumor i heard was that kristy/ohgodagirl over promised the amount of BCUs that would be in demand, and the didnt pay according to the payment schedule agreed too. thus xilinx lowered sqrl BCU priority on the production line.

of course that is speculation, based on discord conversations and my imperfect memory.

once the lawyers and NDAs get all sorted out it will be an interesting story.

You just proved my point , TIMING they mined early when those fpgas were quite profitable internally, and delivered to you guys after they were basically worthless, it’s the same old trick all pre-order teams pull

It was exactly what I expected to happen

from what i understand, some devs were mining privately on amazon AWS F1 instances and some with unmodified VCU1525s way before any of this stuff was announced publicly. the idea for selling BCU1525s (which are basically just modified VCU1525s) came later and delays were on Xilinxs end as they were not paid on schedule IIRC. due to cash flow problems from mineority or sqrl, not sure which as they were all intertwined at that time. otherwise we would of had them much sooner.

naturally this is from my recollection and may be wrong.

She didn't come up with the pill? Then who did?

AFAIK, it was her github repo where all the code came from so i, along with everyone else, assumed she built it.

Nope, she stole it from someone.  Not sure if she made any money from it, but the guy that made it never saw a dime and she used the software as a stepping stone to get her into the real big scams.

her github is empty now.

word on discord was that a well known coder here (i will not mention the name) came up with the pill, she just took credit for it.

go to wizards (ohgodawizard) discord there is a huge screen grab of dialog there. lots of info. its up to the reader to determine how much is true.

all i know is while sqrl may of made mistakes they are still around trying to make things right. meanwhile kristy/ohgodagirl just pranced off into the sunset abandoning everyone who trusted her.

The most questionable to me is the trustworthiness of the ProgPow wannabe figurehead aka OhGodAGirl.
Made a bunch of promises to the mining community with the Mineority project only to deliver nothing and completely sink it a few months later, leaving people with hosted GPUs and FPGAs in total limbo.

Scapegoat or not, somebody with these credentials (and who, to date, refuses to both apologise and acknowledge failure) does not inspire confidence.
well either she is the bad guy or sql acorn is.

of course i do not have all the facts but i think kristy/ohgodagirl shafted sqrl and us big time.

and she still just breezes into discord like nothing at all happened every so often.

"we are all mineority" were her parting words when she abandoned mineority.. riight so where is all the money that "we" have.. she has balls ill admit that.

any project she is involved in is poison in my book. unless proven otherwise.
2770  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: those who have BCU1525s at home, how are you running them? on: March 20, 2019, 02:50:09 PM
currently about 2-4 dollars USD per BCU, maybe a bit more if you really stay on top of coins prices, which i dont.. there have been periods where i believe 10 dollars a day happened for a bit but you really need to pay attention and those periods didnt last too long. going from memory here so might be wrong.

there should be more profitable streams later but i wouldnt count on anything tbh. while personally i think there will be decent streams coming i wouldnt base my decision on maybes. DYOR

you can get them here
http://squirrelsresearch.com/bcu-1525/

there are some variants of the BCU available from 3rd parties, some better, some worse so be careful. you can get them (used) a lot cheaper in the FPGA discord marketplace. use Dream as escrow if you do.

use this invite if you are not already on the fpga discord.

Its all about the V8 sound brother Smiley (for me though)

Understood.  I have friends who feel the same way Smiley

Easily solved with a capable car stereo and suitable synthesis for engine sounds.

I mean, if that's the hill you want to die upon.

man youll need some serious power and subwoofers to reproduce the sound im used too. like, being able to set car alarms off when driving by.
...why would you want this?

because ive had cars that did that. and if youre gonna reproduce that true Detroit Big Iron sound youll want to do it right.

practically speaking though i would actually prefer the silence of electric cars.

Anyone still mining this GRIN shit ?

Boring AF I tell you !

I have regerts.

HODLing.

yup. reason: too lazy to turn the rig off because that rig also runs my BCU1525 and acorn FPGAs. that way i can mine at a loss with two technologies: gpus and fpgas. you know, to lose money with twice the efficiency.

for grin i hold half, sell half. my standard strategy for possibly semi useful coins. for the BCU and acorns, which mine shitcoins, i sell everything.

2775  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Acorn M.2 FPGA based GPU Accelerator on: March 20, 2019, 12:17:40 PM
received my upgrade 215+ for my 101 yesterday.

it comes with a prepaid shipping label, just toss the 101 in it and mail it back. there is no deposit or anything, they just trust you to mail back the 101. my 101 was modded too as i had thermal epoxied an additional heatsink the the voltage regulator. they said that was fine.

so, my cost to upgrade a single 101 to a 215+, shipped to the USA, was $55. $35 for the upgrade, $20 for shipping, and that $20 covers shipping both ways.

i gather those in other countries have far higher shipping costs and are not happy. there are ideas being floated about setting up central points in some countries to ship the acorns back to for cheaper. dunno how thats panning out though.

also, the acorn warranty does not start till the miner comes out. so, looks forever warranties right now.
2776  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: those who have BCU1525s at home, how are you running them? on: March 20, 2019, 11:46:29 AM
right now all the BCU needs is 1 lane of PCIE (gen 2 is fine) and thats only if you use the allmine shell (minerator) for running bitstreams. minerator only uses the PCIE lane for the initial loading of the bitstream. which is why its supplied with and runs on 1x risers fine.. no advantage in plugging directly into a mobo slot or using more lanes right now. the board doesnt need to be sli or xfire certified.

the minerator shell is nice as its a prebuilt environment for running bitsteams that is more or less idiot proof but there are very limited bitstreams available at the moment.

but if you use whitefire bitstreams (currently the most profitable) you dont even need to plug it into a PCIE slot, whitefire does not use the allminer shell, he uses regular usb to program the bitsteams. right now mine is disconnected from the ubuntu rig i had initially set it up on (minerator need *nix to run) and running standalone in the riser (the usb cable the riser uses that goes from the riser to the PCIE slot it unplugged) as i only use whitefire streams. so i just have it sitting in the riser for power from a server PSU.

there is some talk about possibly using more PCIE lanes sometime down the road but thats just speculation. for example using the BCU as an accelerator for other stuff.. maybe mining, maybe some other use. but that way down the road and its just speculation.

if using whitefire streams win 7 should be fine. i use win10pro simply because the mining rig i use to run the BCU is already there next to it. just disable all updates. BUT if you use minerator you need *nix. ubuntu desktop 18.04 LTS is recommended. and even if you just use whitefire streams you still need to initially update the BCU firmware with minerator under *nix. other wise stuff like setting voltages (VERY IMPORTANT) may not work.

bit of a mess at the moment really. there is talk about unifying everything under one OS or the other down the line. but some devs like windows, some like the shell. its like herding cats.

that lumpy, looping grumble of a built V8 at idle is the best. then, 1/4 second later, the front wheels are off the ground and its gone.

That’s how I shattered my front diff which cooked the gearbox as well.

(Lifting the front wheels off the ground on launch in an AWD car with a massive shock load through the drivetrain when it unloaded....). Didn’t go anywhere after that.

I can appreciate a good V8 rear wheel drive after that.  You won’t catch me point to point tho.

yeah ive had my share of what would of been epic hole shots where as soon as i dump the clutch the driveshaft drops to the ground or the diff sprays parts all over the road.

replace with stronger parts.. next weakest thing in the drivetrain breaks. rinse and repeat till you run out of money or total the car out when it does hook up on launch.

man those times were fun.

In more practical terms, I am more concerned that the data from people driving habits could be (potentially) pipelined to auto insurance as your android/iphone definitely knows the speed of your driving vs the speed limit in an area. That would be nasty as around here the flow on the highway is ALWAYS 5-10 miles above the speed limit and you have to stay with the flow.

lol yup.

my current stand alone gps, which ive had longer than my current phone, showed 109 MHP max speed when i checked. current phone said 93 MPH.

i reset them both when i saw that but as for the phone google surely has that in the cloud, as well as all previous phone gps based speeds.

speed limits are 65 MPH max where i have driven.

hardware spies, great.

or some other medical condition that ritalin is used to treat.
...

And regarding the topic. Is there any reason for me to look for whatever you might be having now, given that I don't take my prescription? I feel pretty much perfectly healthy, but wouldn't want to potentially let something unnoticed that could come back at me some day.

probably unlikely. but look for a PM from me later today. one can never be too careful when it comes to ones health.
