Though I do say....

It's paypal meets napster.

but that may not invoke such a flattering image.

So far my favorite.

2783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Assistance Needed for 2012 Bitcoin Convention on: September 30, 2011, 03:39:29 AM
I plan on booking about 80,000 feet of exhibit space at the Convention Center and two good size meeting rooms with the intention of holding alternating panels and discussion sessions. After some consideration, I think having the events on Saturday and Sunday only would be best.
That's ambitious. Especially since Bitcoin may be over by then.

Bitcoin is more then a year and a half old, and has spent the vast majority of its life with a lower value then it has now.  Bitcoin will keep going for a while.
2784  Economy / Goods / Re: Buying rackmount server (South America) on: September 29, 2011, 09:43:24 PM
The shipping cost on these used is often more then the item itself in the US.  I can not imagine what it would cost to ship overseas.

2785  Economy / Goods / Re: 2x 6990's -- Only 13 Hours Left!! on: September 29, 2011, 09:30:23 PM
I get a breakeven time (at current BTCUSD exchange rate, 0.09c/KWh, and current ebay auction price of $550) of 2 years, 266 days, assuming 50% profitability decline per year.

For mining they are a not the best choice, for resale value, bragging rights and gaming they are a great choice.

2787  Economy / Goods / [SOLD] Compaq V2000 laptop with Ubuntu 11.04 Shipped USA wireless fixed on: September 29, 2011, 08:03:39 PM
Up for sale is a working Compaq V2000 laptop.  It has Ubuntu 11.04 loaded.
60gb hard drive upgradeable to 500gb, 768mb ram upgradable to 2gb ram, DVD player Cd burner

Need a nice cheap laptop for a student or holding BTC offline*??  This unit is a nice size and runs fast enough for casual surfing.

The back of the unit has sticker residue on it, and can be pealed off but it will take time. The wireless card is not being detected by ubuntu but did work when it was loaded with Windows.  I have fixed the wireless card.  It needed a new driver.  The screen has some bright spots as pictured in the photos.

Price includes US shipping and the power adapter.

Why use domains by proxy on an exchange?
2789  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitcoinStats.org - A free site that shows recent transaction confirmation times. on: September 29, 2011, 01:02:45 AM
That is really nice!

So is the number of clients really dropping that fast?  Can you make a longer timescale?
2790  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS/WTT] Scrap Motherboards, PCI Cards, Processor, PC Parts, etc, Gold Recovery on: September 28, 2011, 11:35:58 PM
You really need about 10 to 20 lbs of scrap motherboards and pci/isa cards to make any real value.  When you have that much, usualy $3 a pound is possible.  Junk cases are not worth keeping/shipping.

If you can not find a buyer, keep the CPUs.  They are worth about $3 each and are easier to ship.  I sell 20-30 at a time and usually get $100.

2791  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: EUROPEAN BITCOIN CONFERENCE 2011, PRAGUE NOV 25-27 on: September 28, 2011, 11:26:27 PM
We would want the conference to have at least 200 people attend and there just doesn't seem to be that level of interest.

The difficult decision is to push on and risk putting something together that won't be what has been advertised.
I would consider a lower price next time.  Conference pricing is all over the place, but for something like this, a 80 euro pricetag might draw more people and should allow to pay for the space, speakers (if they are paid) and a nice profit.

Have a vendor price that does not scare off vendors as well.  Vendors (advertised as coming) bring in attendees, and they usually reserve earlier so the fact that they are coming can be shown off as well.
2792  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ARTICLE] Bitcoins have lost $210,000,000 since July 9th 2011. on: September 28, 2011, 11:16:30 PM
What I find amusing is you guys disagreeing with facts....  but whatever...  it's funny.. and it does explain a bunch of things.
What does it explain?

And the title is "Bitcoins have lost $174,458,406.27 since July 9th 2011."   What happened is the post was published with 210 due to a bug and then was corrected, but tribbleagency uses a caching system so it took time to refresh.
So you were in error, but I am disagreeing with facts?

FACT : Total Value of Entire Bitcoin Economy $35,538,113.00

I love to hear your argument on how spot price x number of bitcoins in circulation isn't that figure,  please amuse me.
There are a lot of arguments against that.  If you tried to buy up all of the bitcoins out there, $35M would not be enough.  The price would rise pretty fast as you were buying and you would run out money well before the last coins were bought.  That figure does not include assets that are being used in the bitcoin economy as well which could be quite substantial.

The number and methodology you have used gives the market cap of bitcoin, but that does not mean it is the "Entire Value"

FACT : A total of $1,042,640.53 per month must enter the bitcoin economy to keep the current value of USD $4.827039512571 per BTC

I love to hear that in order to keep the current value,  while printing them off,  you don't need to add new inputs..  Please give me some federal reserve math here on how you can print without expanding the economy...  again.. I need to be amused.

This is far more debatable then your other stuff, this is in fact pure conjecture.  Since all bitcoin created is not immediately sold, that alone would make that figure incorrect.  NOBODY knows exactly what percentage that is, but it is NOT 100%.  We can see that by simply watching the block chain and seeing freshly mined coins not move.

So you now just called this a 'report' , posted it to your own ad agency (Huh?) and got it being reported as news.

A report has been published showing a massive loss to the bitcoin economy.
Total Value of Entire Bitcoin Economy $36,126,021.96

A total figure of USD $1,060,609.29 per month must enter the bitcoin economy to keep the current value of USD $4.910228203451 per BTC

$245.51 worth of BTC are printed every 10 minutes by mining or $1,060,609.29 per month or $12,727,311.50 per year.

Bitcoins traded at nearly $35 at their peak with ~6,000,000 coins in circulation on June 9, 2011 the total Bitcoin economy was valued at $210,000,000.

Bitcoins are now trading at $4.910228203451 with 7357300.000000001 coins in circulation the total Bitcoin economy is now valued at $36,126,021.96

This represents a net loss of $209,999,964.00 from peak to this exact moment (updated in real time) of the entire bitcoin economy.

If Bitcoins were stable at their peak of $35 on June 9, 2011 , the bitcoin economy would be worth $257,505,500.00 rather than $36,126,021.96

A report?  Sorry, it was not a report.  It was a post on a message board.  And it is incorrect.

The last two on your list, LaundryCoin and FPGACoin respectively, aren't really in use. Neither has pools or exchanges, just a handful of suckers miners.

I hope allchains.info adds these extra chains to the page.  It is neat to look at them and see what they are up to.
2797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block 209999 - a short history of the Bitcoin civil war on: September 28, 2011, 01:19:17 AM
I am both a miner and a merchant.  I understand the benefit of the mining reward cut, and actually am LOOKING FORWARD to it.  I would not mine with a pool that was trying to re-write the rules, and I think most pool operators get the logic as well.

When the block reward goes down, the price of bitcoin will probably rise.  I personally do not think it will double, but it will cause real upward pressure.

Like the stock market, I believe the bitcoin market will 'anticipate' this change and the price of bitcoin will rise BEFORE that reward change arrives.  There will be no huge spike at the point of change.   Just my thoughts....
2798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins have lost $210,000,000 USD since June 9th 2011 on: September 27, 2011, 09:53:21 PM
::sigh::

When price is rising, people complain about "deflationary spirals" and the failure of Bitcoin to not match up with demand.

When price is falling, people complain about inflation and the failure of Bitcoin to not match up with demand.

Are we so enmeshed in a centrally-planned, price-controlled economy that the first sign of true free-market price discovery simply scares us to death?

Bitcoin  is/will be the most volatile asset the world has ever seen. Set your expectations accordingly. Relax.

+1

It has been a wild ride and we are just starting!

Six?  Are there more?  I did not count NC as I feel it is for a different purpose.

Only real ones that are in use, not theoretical, unreleased, or fictional.

For 3.5 BTC I can send you a box of IDE CD reader drives.  It would be a flat rate large box with as many as we can fit in there, that costs me about $14 to send out so I am not really making much money.  Most of them work as they were pulls from old machines, but we did not test any of them.  We are not guarantying them in any way.  No, there are not probably going to be any burners or DVD drives in there.

I think I have enough to send out 3 boxes total if others are interested.
