81 days or so and counting...

http://bitcoinclock.com/
Another POS website using times with no timezone specified.  At least this one looks like GMT.

It only uses local time in one spot, the majority of it's function is intact.  Still, it would be good to specify.  It does not earn POS for that one detail.
1782  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bought 4 Graphics Cards from BTC guy, no response after a week on: September 10, 2012, 04:40:19 AM
I scammer-tagged retropcdos because he's very close to BTC Guy in IP space and I found his posts to be suspicious. It's possible he's just unlucky IP-wise and I misjudged his posts, though. I'll look into it more tomorrow.

retropcdos states that he IS at the street address in that genuine butterfly labs receipt which is also the address for BTC GUY.  It is possible that BTC guy paid real bitcoin for a BFL single and was going to donate it to retropcdos and that retropcdos is in the same ip space as well.  Not too likely though.

When BTC guy shipped real product, his return address was the same address as well.

In the end BTC guys BFL product will be shipped to that address where retropcdos states he lives.  Occam's razor anyone?

I notice that whenever a new thread is posted there is almost immediately 20 or so views. Is this really just people reading the newest thread?

There are 200+ users online.
1784  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MATTHEW FIRED FROM BITCOIN MAGAZINE on: September 10, 2012, 02:25:35 AM
Cool. Let me know when they announce that he has 0 stake and gains nothing from the sale & promotion of their magazine.

+1

1786  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [PENDING] Scammer: Matthew N. Wright on: September 09, 2012, 07:10:47 PM
All i have to say is that this is HUGE black eye for Bitcoin Magazine.. I'm sure that if he already isn't relieved of his "Editor-in Chief" title with them, I would be very surprised.

I, for one, will not subscribe to the Bitcoin Magazine until this mess is taken care of or that Bitcoin Magazine comes out and lets us know that he has nothing to do with the Magazine any longer.. Sorry Matthew, you made your own bed on this one...

Mainly because I was going to use my winnings that I bet with Matthew to subscribe to the Magazine, lol..

I do realize that Bitcoin Magazine did not condone this bet. But, it's still a black eye, nonetheless...

So if I were to place another ad with Bitcoin Magazine I presume it would look bad for my company.  I had an ad in issue 1.

I will make it my mission to avoid anyone supporting that magazine.  That includes advertisers.

I figured as much.   I have no pending ads right now.  Of course they could do a Bruce W and keep running ads.

Pay him a visit with three or four friends.

Contact him and tell him to return the coins in 48hours - or you will go to the cops.

I'd visit him with some friends... No matter how big or bad he is, it's not nice to say "no" to 4 angry people.

We found his real address, name and phone, not the fake crap he provide and did that yesterday and he doesn't care.

As expected retropcdos is btc guy trying to throw false information.

How do you Know?

Moderator told me and marked him as a scammer.  Same IP as BTC GUY.
1789  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion about 10,000BTC Bet (Official) on: September 09, 2012, 05:34:17 PM
Remember, remember, the 9th of September. (And to everyone who dared to say that people were "stupid" and "ruining bitcoin" by investing into Pirate, you may now eat your socks for complaining about losing this bet)

That's the problem.... We didn't lose this bet.
1790  Other / Politics & Society / Re: In an AnCap society, would it be possible to eat your children? on: September 09, 2012, 04:45:00 PM
The children should have thought of that risk before deciding not to get insurance  Grin

Serious question: abortion. How would you deal with it?

Assuming that that a justice company comes to the "wrong" conclusion, and starts protecting innocent fetuses from violence / starts protecting the choice and own-body-ownership of innocent women, how would you deal with that?

To the title, you can do that right now. What stops you?

To the abortion question, you select a different justice company.

The whole problem with people hiring different justice companies is that an anti-abortionist is going to hire their own justice company to protect the fetus in someones body who wants an abortion.  That would get messy.

Ehh... not too likely. No defense company is going to attack another defense company unless they really have to, so arbitration would be the order of the day, which would probably result in the decision: "keep to your own damn body."

I am assuming the person wanting the abortion has no justice company or has hired a weaker justice company.

Fighting is still expensive, and risks lives. Arbitration, by comparison, is cheap, and usually, nobody gets shot.

If money is the dividing line between people getting shot and people not getting shot.... people will be shot.

And sobody who wants to have an abortion needs to go to arbitration first?

1794  Economy / Speculation / Re: iPhone 5: Will People Cash Out on Bitcoins? on: September 09, 2012, 05:03:43 AM
Most users in the USA buy the phone subsidized for $199 16gb or $299 32gb.  We then sell our old one for nearly as much or even more.  With AT&T now unlocking phones for customers in good standing (under conditions) the price for the old phone is pretty high.

Right now a 4 16gb (not a 4s) is going for about $320 unlocked on ebay.  After the new phone comes out that will drop, probably to $250 as more people are selling.  A 4s is going for even more.  So if I sold my 4 after the new one comes out I can cash IN to bitcoin with my profits not out.  On top of that I have a 50/50 odds of selling my old phone for bitcoin directly.

This article has more data.  Wells Fargo came back a SECOND TIME and did it again because they hired a different contractor that made the exact same mistake.  Wells Fargo is not being cooperative according to the article they are not returning the family's calls.

1797  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Q] Selling bitcoins using PayPal - What's the risk? on: September 09, 2012, 02:35:57 AM
you can lie and say gift
Sure, but that's very, very stupid. Not to mention it's fraud.

look here

someone sent a PP gift payment for some bitcoins
and the bitcoin was never sent.
and now he cannot revers the payment

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=106045.msg1172035#new
He can, he just does not know how to. But I'm not going to help him because he's trying to defraud PayPal. PayPal did exactly what he tricked them into doing, and now he's trying to screw them for it.

Correct.  In fact paypal has reversed gifts just because a sender or receiver was using gift too many times.  Paypal gets no fee and knows that person is not getting that many gifts.  It is POSSIBLE, but it is not probable.

Also a gift payment come from a hacked paypal account, and almost all of those payments will be reversed.

1799  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion about 10,000BTC Bet (Official) on: September 09, 2012, 12:28:53 AM
If Matthew loses his bet, he needs to MAKE PEOPLE PROVE THAT THEY HAVE BITCOINS, IN THE AMOUNT OF THEIR BET....otherwise, the bet for THAT person should be VOID.

So now on top of admitting to lying for Matthew in that one possible scenario you want to play the referee in the outcome of bets? Sorry that wasn't part of the agreement. If he loses he pays. If betters lose they pay him. Simple as that.

Matthew offered to take a 2500 BTC bet from me (my Pirate account, at the time). I DIDN'T BET BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE IT.

That is why I bet only 20 BTC even though I am 99% certain that I would win.
