I'm confused on the risers
Expansion Slots: 2 x PCI Express x16 slot running at x16 ,1x PCI Express x4 slots, 2 x PCI Express x1 slot, 1x PCI slots

do i need (5) 16x1 risers or
(2) 16x16, (1) 16x4, and (2) 16x1

Im planning on running ubuntu on a memory stick since i read that's the best way to go!

You could do it with either (2) 16x16, (1) 16x4, and (2) 16x1 powered risers or (1) 16x16 and (4) 16x1 powered risers. Most OS drivers get a bit uppity if the primary video card is not x16.
282  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: solo mining qestion on: January 12, 2014, 09:13:49 AM
I am still unclear on the odds of solo mining, could someone point me to the right place to figure that out, besides the mining calculator?.. I think cgminer says difficulty is something like 200k without LP, does that mean that I would need a best share of 200k?.. thanks for any input.

p.s I have about 50-80khs..
http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency has a good set of calculators for just about all coins, and in the Summary section it will show you just how it might take to generate a block when going solo.

OMG I thought you were worried about about the Korean Death Fan Myth

http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4287

Theres a weird meme in Korea that if you go to sleep in a room with a fan running, it could kill you.
Exactly why and how remains unclear to this day.

LOL  Grin

Just makes you wonder how far humans have come and how close the Stone Age still is.  Cheesy

The need to pay within a hour is ridiculous. If the buyers BTC in in a paper wallet then it can take over 1 hour to get the coin to a paying wallet, and if confirmations are slow then it will take longer.

With respect, how is it Bitmain's problem that you don't have access to your funds in a timely fashion ?

I can understand your frustration, but feel you are barking up the wrong tree here.

+1

if I wanted to buy something at walmart on Boxing day, I would make sure my paycheck was fully cashed and in my banking account. I wouldnt go to walmart, pull my item off the shelf, and hang around the cash registers for hours/days until my paycheck deposited

*ps: if i had someone standing in front of me at walmart going 'uh, give it a minute, maybe my card will be accepted this time'...DECLINED....'oh, it will work any minute now, can you hold on another 5 minutes?'  I would sucker-punch them in the back of the head and ring my own shit through*

As my other posts explain, you do not find out it is an hour until you are in the checkout.

Using your scenario, you have gotten to the checkout and they have told you that the card system is down and ask for cash, what do you offer then, more violence?

Hey,

My status is:
Paied
Unshipped
Valid

Hope to have my machineeee!  Smiley

Regards

Isn't the payback on these machines likely 90 days [and very little after], even excluding PSU and any taxes?

seems right , so ? it still on off best deals that we can find .

As always the ROI is difficulty rise and electricity cost dependent but I agree you, I haven't found a better deal.
286  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: CPU usage when mining GPU only on: January 11, 2014, 07:12:32 PM
What about your CPU % when only mining with multiples GPU (for Litecoin as an example)?

Is your computer also usable for daily uses (not games indeed!)?

Although little CPU is used it can still make using the PC cumbersome but it seems to be motherboard and card specific. I have one that mines scrypt but I have to keep the intensity of the primary video card down to 13 to stop stuttering occurring when moving a window about. Another that has no problem until the I gets to 18.

Has anyone every run one of these with 2 PSU's?

no reason why you couldn't - just use 1 PSU per blade, and power both at the same time

I am powering my miners with 2 PSUs on each. Sushi told me not to do this however this seems like the only way to get best out of them. Single PSU sometimes shutdowns and display a lot of Xs. 2 PSUs seem to power them without a problem.

Electrically there would only be a problem if you had each PSU on a different phase. Used to get this in the old days of RS232 where the printer was a long way from the server as the reference ground volt value was slightly different. It should not cause a problem in a house or single office, I run one of my Ant's on two old 450W Corsairs and it works like a charm.
288  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer support and OverClocking thread on: January 11, 2014, 06:59:12 PM
What is acceptable HW rate?

All my ant's average between 0.005% to 0.016% @ 375MHz, if I overclock to 400Mhz then the error rate can hit > 5% but then at 400Mhz that the total number of accepted shares on the pool is far smaller than expected and it is not financially worth it when electricity, etc is factored in.

Personally I am not frustrated, I had ample funds in my wallet and the status of my order is currently paying
I just find ridiculous the expectation that 1 hour is long enough when the payment system is itself cannot meet that timescale.

If there is a horrible block or an orphan that occurs that 6 x 10 minutes for a completed payment can take a whole lot longer.

One ordered by me:

Order ID 00120140111173048334.......10675
Order Date: 2014-01-11 17:30:48

Order Paid Date: 11/01/2014 18:25
TX ID: 79097ba281b48215e3a0bd7193ead24a981123048bbf64db1a0640cd9a131e2b

Another problem on the https://bitmaintech.com/accountInfo.htm page. It has an extra User Name field but there already is a User ID field that holds the login name for the user.

1 send them e-mails to webmaster@bitmaintech.com

2 i guess Username it for your real name if you want fill it

Good idea AlexeyK, I will send a copy to the webmaster as well.

Hi Bitmain,

Another problem.

The need to pay within a hour is ridiculous. If the buyers BTC in in a paper wallet then it can take over 1 hour to get the coin to a paying wallet, and if confirmations are slow then it will take longer.

What also happens if someone sends the payment but it is waiting for the first confirmation for a long time because the next block with transactions takes a long time but the deadline has passes whilst that is happening. The order gets marked expired but the payment is already sent, in that case do you refund.

EDIT: This can also happen is a order is part paid from one address but the other gets stuck waiting for a pool to add the transaction to a block.

So get it all into the paying wallet before you place the order.

The information that the payment must be made in 1 hour only appears after the order has been made. I am reporting the problems and showing other scenarios where it can go wrong as Bitmain has asked in his OP!

If you do not have another video card to try then add a speaker and listen for beep codes.
I do have another videocard and same thing happend. I do not have a motherboard speaker however.

That motherboard also has a digital LED display, after you have powered it up what code does the LED show?

I found the solution the LED said 6d wich meant it had to do with my GPU not being recognised, after long search i found out i was missing a (dont know the name in English) blue connector wich connects 2pins on the motherboard.
After i used one from my old motherboard and put it in place it recognised my GPU.

Thanks though ineedit!

No worries, happy mining!

shoul i reinstall windows
No, you just need to use powered risers. If you are running out of Molex connectors then its is possible that your PSU i snot big enough as well.

Has anyone every tried running this thing with 2 PSU's?

I am
I'm running each blade with an HP DL380 G4 server power supply, which can put out 42amps on the 12v line
I had 4 of the power supplies, soi figured why not Smiley
I'm running one run of 12 gauge wire from the power supply to each blade
12 gauge is roughly the same as 3 runs of 16 gauge

I'm a big fan of server power supplies
These babies are designed to be run 24/7 for years

I have heard some people run both PSU's to a power bar and then switch the power bar on so everything fires up at the same time.

Have you had any of these kinds of issues?

I have one ant running on 2 old 450W Corsairs, runs like a charm.
299  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S1 Setup on: January 10, 2014, 06:15:05 PM
GENERAL QUESTION: what pools and settings do people use? ghash.io has become dangerously large and I have moved my 600Gh of mining to eligius to do my small part. Right now reported hashrate seems on target, but just curious if people have opinions on best pool or settings w/ regrds to antminer

I've been using BTC Guild for a while to minimize variance, which may not be quite as good from a network-security standpoint (though they're currently less than a third of the network).  P2Pool would be the ultimate in decentralization.  I've used it in the past, but started running into performance issues on the hardware I had available.  I think I'd need to at least throw more RAM and/or an SSD at it to get bitcoind to respond in a more timely manner to the queries P2Pool throws at it.

I moved to eligius and am seeing 590-600GH average from my 3 antminers (375,400,400 MHz)

Everyone seems to be getting very good hash rate out of the units, yet to see any dead chips.

one unit has a single chip with an x (it had about 4 that seemed caused by the pool switch but cleared by a reboot) and is at 200GH. If the chip is actually not working, the hashrate loss is minimal.

i plan to reconfigure some of the power lines and cooling soon and that should help bring temps down from 51-53 to 50-51

I have 'x's appear an disappear on all of my Ant's but only once I have need to reboot one that went a bit sick after 3 days. I have one at present with 64 'x's but the pool says it is running at 190GH/s with accepted share figures no different from the other ants I have. I suspect I will look at it tomorrow and it will show 64 'o's instead.
