I'm going to be Mr. Contrarian here and partially agree with OP that older members (not necessarily of Legendary rank) tend to be more outspoken, and they probably do use profanity more so than members who haven't been here as long.  Me?  I was an asshole right out of the gate at Newbie rank and have actually mellowed over the years.  But the thing is that the longer a person is here, and the more they actually care about the forum, the more they see how many idiots there are that bring the quality of discussion down to rock-bottom level--and for those of them who are inclined to, they resort to venting their feelings with choice words, condescension, or whatever else.

Most newbies are as meek as a mouse and seem to want to fly so far under the radar whilst participating in a bounty or campaign that they're nearly on the ground.  But I've definitely seen my share of "new" accounts come here just to make a big stink about something.  Eh.

Of course it doesn't.  Why would they bother to mention a major detail like that when they've already established a precedent of omitting even more important, fundamental details about how their devices work?  Fuck them and the diseased horse they rode in on, their partners, and I hope the company is headed toward insolvency (though there's no chance in hell they would give so much as a hint of that and would only announce it after all the bankruptcy paperwork was filed).

And yeah, they probably are getting pretty desperate--not for growth, but to get back to the pre-Recovery-announcement sales figures, which I assume were higher than they are now given how many very pissed off people I've seen posting here and on reddit.  Eh.  They get what they deserve.

Gah!  I've been saying much the same thing for years now--always too damn broke to build up a sizeable stake in bitcoin and all this time later I'm the poorer for not having done so.  Bitcoin is back above $40k as I'm writing this, and I expected it to bounce back relatively quickly even though I wasn't sure of why it dipped so low in the first place.  To my eyes it's been in an upward trend, and nothing keeps going straight up.  In particular, bitcoin doesn't tend to go up in a straight line for long at all without these dizzying fallbacks--that's something newcomers ought to learn as quick as they can so as not to get scared into selling.

Assuming that's true (and I've no reason to doubt it), why did the GBTC buyers buy shares in the first place if Grayscale's fees and reputation were the reason they sold?  Surely they'd have known prior to buying, no?

Anyone who'd be terrified of bitcoin dropping to $38k after this last bull run probably hasn't had much experience with bitcoin's historical price movements, and they're likely to have invested money they're going to need a month from now and panicked.  That happens every time bitcoin drops like a roller-coaster from its peak height.

The price difference between the Bicycle cards and the ones above isn't that much, and I actually like the Bicycle packaging a lot more--orange is an eye-catching color, and the texture of the Rich Life Style cards seems too slick.  And man, I like the ace of spades card and the seed phrase recovery card that's in the Bicycle deck.

I think there's a lot of attention to detail here, and they might look just a tad minimalist but overall it appears to be a collectible that'd be well worth the money.

Since I'm one of those who think all the halvings should be priced in well before they happen, I would expect the price to do nothing special.  On the other hand, I've become quite familiar with the world of crypto over the years and know how much it draws in the speculators, especially if they think they can just waltz in and grab some free money like you described.  So it just might happen that the price does get a boost because of an influx of new money, but not strictly because of the halving itself.

And hasn't this been discussed to death, not just with bitcoin's halvings but throughout the altcoin community as well?  The fact is that none of us know for sure, and you can either guess with your wallet by buying bitcoin, selling it, or just remaining neutral (as I'm doing) and watching the parade from the sidewalk.  What I do know is that bitcoin's price has dropped significantly over the past week or so and I'm still trying to figure out if there's a logical explanation for that or if it's just another one of the crazy swings that shakes out the timid that we see from time to time.  I've heard all this talk about it going to $100k post-halvening, but I'm not betting on that.

There are a lot of cats where I live, and while I'm somewhat afraid for the pigeon's life I would be happy to strap a box or bag of aluminum to it for the return trip to wherever LO lives.  Better have him send one that's been on steroids, as it'll be one hell of a flight home. 

Oh now that's interesting....all of these goodies caught my eye, even if I'm not familiar with their history.  If any can tabs are needed in order to produce anything bitcoin-related, I have about 3-4 pounds worth that I've been hoarding from every can I come across, plus a lot more than that in crushed aluminum cans that I have no real plans for.  I'd be willing to ship what I've got free of charge within the US or for a reasonable cost overseas just to help out.

I don't trade crypto like a lot of others on this forum do, but thinking back to years ago when there were services like Circle around, with which you could buy and sell bitcoin from a reasonably reputable firm with absolute ease makes me pine for those days.  If you're a US citizen and don't have a Coinbase account (those fuckers), what's an easy way to do that anymore?  Damned if I can think of any.

So I'd love to use a DEX for fiat transactions--assuming I had money to buy bitcoin on the regular--but as mentioned, liquidity/volume is low, and since I haven't become familiar with any of the exchanges out there, I haven't used one.  The principle of decentralized exchanges does appeal to me, however, and I'm guessing if someone could get ahold of Satoshi and poll him on his opinion of the DEX concept he'd be all for them.

These have been around for what, at least a few years now, right?  Given how many people care about their privacy and don't have as many hangups as I do, I would've thought they'd have caught on far more than they have.  Ah well, I suppose if governments decide to crack the whip harder than they already are, they will.  Hopefully.

OP are you really criticizing some self-appointed financial self-help guru for not telling you enough?  Most of those shitty books on how to become wealthy that are written by people who basically got lucky shouldn't have been written at all, much less had any readership, and never mind the people who hang on their every word.

If everyone followed the same investment strategy, that strategy would become a losing one very quickly.  True, there are methods such as value investing (props to Buffett) that have shown to be winners consistently, but like Buffett you really have to dig in and do it full-time if you want to do it right.  I wouldn't listen to anything that rich dad-poor dad dude or anyone like him has to say.

I don't know what the Buffett quote has to do with the last two sentences, but the former is a nugget of wisdom and the latter I absolutely agree with.  It's easy enough to get wiped out in the stock market if you're using too much leverage, and the swings in stocks are nowhere near as mind-blowing as those in crypto.

I don't know about you all here, but even if the ETF thing was a "sell the news" situation, I think market sentiment is pretty bullish with a long-term view--so there might have been a dip after those ETFs got approved, but I have a feeling that there's still an upward trend underneath it all.

That said, bitcoin still has a long way to go before it reaches a new ATH.  I'm not complaining about a valuation of $43k-ish by any means, but the previous ATH was well above that.  Once again I kneel before the market gods and pray that bitcoin doesn't take off like a rocket and reach heights that it can't sustain.  We all know that's happened a few times before.

I'd say that about sums it up, but I don't quite understand OP's precis of "mixing" bitcoin and monero.  I have a strange feeling he either doesn't know what he's talking about or is trying to get some merit.

In crypto, bitcoin is king of kings; it kicked cryptocurrency off and remains the most popular, recognized, talked about on the news, and has the largest market cap with *only* a max of 21 million coins.  So if you're looking for an investment in crypto, it beats XMR hands down.  You already said that and made the point about privacy, so I won't belabor it.  But honestly, there isn't a question of having to choose one coin versus the other for most people.  Privacy-oriented individuals naturally flock to XMR, and ROI-wise, it isn't as though it hasn't performed well over the years.  Here's a chart from CMC showing both BTC and XMR:
