761  Other / Meta / Re: Offensive words on the forum on: June 14, 2023, 05:58:32 AM
They're just words and only you can let them effect or hurt you. Just ignore anything you deem offensive.
Seriously--and this is the internet, for fuck's sake.  In real life I wouldn't even scold people for hurting my delicate sensibilities, much less in the 4th world country that is the interwebz.

OP, I'm of the opinion that profanity and other potentially offensive words are generally tolerated by the mods so long as it doesn't descend into blatant trolling.  I've seen other forums where speech is severely moderated, and it just makes the vibe feel like a kindergarten with a very strict teacher.  If you want free speech (and a lot of us do), you have to put up with people saying things you don't like.  It's that simple.
762  Other / Meta / Re: Did Laszlo Hanyecz exchange 40000 BTC for 8 pizzas, not 10000 BTC for 2 pizzas? on: June 13, 2023, 10:57:20 AM
40,000 BTC, not 10,000 BTC. Massive regret.
Regardless of whether you're right or wrong on the numbers, unless I'd kept a much bigger stash of bitcoin after buying those pies (and held on at least until the price was $50k) I'd be having nightmares to this very day.  But from what I've read, Laszlo doesn't have any regrets, and to be fair even if he did miss out on some serious profit, he did become quite famous.  A lot of people would pay a much higher price for a lesser amount of fame than Laszlo got--he's been mentioned in books and his name is inextricably linked to the bitcoin-pizza connection that has been commemorated with things like Ballet wallets and probably a lot of other collectibles.

Whether it was two or eight pizzas doesn't make a damn bit of difference as far as I'm concerned, and there's no controversy anyway as the community is helpfully chiming in on.  Man, I love this forum.  Too bad Laszlo isn't active anymore.
763  Economy / Services / Re: Thank you, supreme leader! on: June 13, 2023, 10:28:09 AM
If you look carefully at how far apart the eyes are (there must be a colossal honker under there), and how her right eye sits a bit higher than her left... I'm not sure I wanna see what's behind that mask.
Now I'm gonna be the cranky contrarian here and say that my first girlfriend had a nose that took up roughly 70% of her face, and I found her to be a beauty.  Everything below the nose was nice, too, but this was a long ass time ago and I'm not going to put creepy ideas in all y'all perverts' heads.

Second, wide-set eyes don't necessarily imply an enormous proboscis.  There was a chick I worked with a few years back who had a face I could have looked at forever, and I eventually deduced that she had Waardenburg syndrome though she wasn't deaf and didn't have some of the other phenotypes associated with that wonderful mutation.  Her nose was unremarkable, but those eyes and her high cheekbones were stunning.

So perhaps Lord Fox of Pups would spread mass horniness amongst the populace should that mask come off.  Certainly said Fox has never shown an inclination to do so at our regular orgies, but one can always dream.  By the way, thanks again Foxpup.  I'll skip the PM this week and show my gratitude in pubic public.  Sorry, sex on the cephallus.
764  Economy / Reputation / Re: The whole reputation system is pure garbage on: June 12, 2023, 08:10:34 PM
So my account basicly got destroyed by old DT members like Lauda,Yogg,TMAN,VOD etc and many asslickers who wanted to benefit by licking their asses.
<snip>
So after 3 years later majority of them are gone with big scam accusations.
Your account didn't get destroyed, you whining whelp.  You were able to log in and bitch about a problem that you didn't and probably never could have solved while you were active in 2020.  And if you still think it's destroyed, stop trying to use it and just go away.

Big scam accusations, eh?  That's disingenuous, because as you probably know quite well, most DT members of the old era had pages of negative trust and the vast majority of it is retaliatory.  Example: click on my trust page and have a good looky-look.

I forgot you even existed.  Then I looked at your trust and saw that I tagged you in 2018.  Is that showing up red for you?  By the way, what's all this ass licking you're referring to?  Please, enlighten all the members who haven't been here while you were off in space masturbating.
765  Other / Meta / Re: Old posts aren't moderated on: June 12, 2023, 08:00:55 PM
Yeah, I ran up against this big red stop sign a couple of weeks ago when I was looking through the ANN pages of a few shitcoins I had a passing interest in.  I always knew ICO teams employed alt accounts or paid shills or whatever to keep bumping their threads, but I wasn't aware that it was happening in the altcoin ANN section (yep, still naive after all these years).  I saw some new coins being announced in threads that were then nearly filled with brand new accounts making posts like "great coin, hope for best" and the like.

So anyway, after seeing so much of this garbage I wanted to report it just so the signal:noise would be higher.  Not to be, I guess.

I understand why though; can you imagine how much work the mods would have if they had to handle posts from months to years ago, when in reality it probably makes little difference if anything gets deleted?  Maybe Theymos should round up a squad of volunteer "old post" mods to whom reports could be routed to for handling.  I don't know how many really old posts get reported, but I'm thinking it's probably not an outrageous number.  Just a thought which will probably be lost forever once this thread runs out of steam.
766  Economy / Economics / Re: Child support - A state affair (Tokenization of child support) on: June 11, 2023, 11:58:21 PM
Could we tokenize the synthetic asset of "average expected future tax payments" and bring it back in the hands of the people?
No.  If anyone tried to do it, it'd just turn into another scam shitcoin.  No offense OP, but your idea sounds like it came straight out of 2017/18 when the ICO boom was happening and people thought everything could be 'tokenized' (a silly non-word IMO).

In fact, I'll go even further and ask if there's actually been a real-world case of a token or coin with its own blockchain being used for anything productive, because if there is I'm unaware of it.  The fact is that crypto isn't, and probably never will, solve any real-world problems.  Blockchain tech might come in handy at some point, but even then there are serious privacy issues in addition to all the security concerns, so....yeah, not a great idea here.
767  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] SINBAD.IO [Mix Your BTC Quickly] Signature Campaign | Up-to $150/w on: June 11, 2023, 02:13:05 PM
Dude, you don't seem to follow sports. <snip>
relax and welcome to the Sinbad campaign.  Wink
That's true, but even if I did still follow my favorite sport (basketball), I don't think that term has ever been used or if it's common in sports in the U.S.  I've definitely never heard it before.  But hey!  This is why bitcointalk is great--you can learn stuff like that from people all around the world.  And it might be hard to tell from the written word, but I'm as relaxed as a graveyard resident.

By the way, relative to what I assume to be the average age of forum members to be, I'm a grizzled old man.  Picture me hobbling around my lean-to sporting a long white beard, relying on a handmade wooden cane for balance.  Luckily there's wi-fi in the vicinity of said lean-to.

The Sceptical Chymist  "The Man/Woman, The Myth, The Legend" welcome to the Sinbad Campaign!
I'm a man, baby!  I don't know about all that other stuff, but thanks for the warm welcome nonetheless.

To be called one of the best strikers in the Market is a compliment to mean that you are one of the most important members in this forum Smiley
I appreciate the explanation, as noted above.  Not that it would have stuck in my mind and kept me awake at night, but I was puzzled when reading that word in the context it was used.  A'ight bitches, I'm a striker!!
768  Other / Meta / Re: Why is this system not set up for the Bitcointalk forum? on: June 11, 2023, 01:02:34 PM
OP, you registered in March of this year and you have all of this knowledge of forum issues/drama/etc. how....?  And since ostensibly you've only been a member here for about 3 months, why is this is a major concern for you?

I would also challenge your assertion that most account sales are those of hacked accounts.  I've been here for years now and have never seen any hard data on anything that would support or contradict that.  In fact I think account sales have decreased dramatically at least since the merit system came about, and that's likely because account farmers got cut off at the knees overnight in Jan. 2018.

The account registration security isn't really affecting you directly, right?  If that's the case and you don't like how outdated bitcointalk is (and I can't argue with you on that one), try another discussion forum.  Like cryptotalk.  That Yobit monstrosity of a website posing as a place where ideas and knowledge are shared--and that's if it still exists.

There's just nothing like bitcointalk.  All the other forums are deader than dead.
769  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] Members who support newbies - Thanks! on: June 11, 2023, 12:59:59 AM
OP, thanks once again for updating this list (and I'm glad I caught it in my feed before it got buried).

Wow....I used to actually have a rank each month, but I've dropped off completely since I started pretty much exclusively handing out merits to people who request post history reviews.  I'm not sure if that's a case of me not reading as much, or being lazy or what but it isn't good.  My goal with the offer I made to the community was to help members rank up, but I rarely get members at Newbie rank PMing me.

Is it too late to make a new years resolution?  Yes, and I'd probably break it immediately if I were so foolish enough to make one.
770  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: My worries with ledger on: June 09, 2023, 11:23:48 AM
Third, at the time when your fund is still relying on Ledger Nano S create multisig  wallet, using  say two of two quorum. <snip>
Cool, thanks for dropping some knowledge here--and I mean that sincerely.  Not being the most technical-minded person, I'm always impressed by the expertise of the community.

OP, my advice to you would be that if your Ledger is creating a lasting paranoia you'd best ditch that piece of shit wallet as fast as you can throw it into a meat grinder.  I've heard various things about the safety of the Nano S, but at this point I'm not sure what to believe (nor do I care since I'm not using one).  What is clear is that Ledger done told some lies, got caught, got egg in their face that still won't wash off, and justifiably lost a lot of trust that they worked hard to earn.  I've got some suspicions about what they're up to, but I've got no data to back those suspicions up so I won't even go there.

But you ought to look into one of the HW wallets with open-source code, because that turned out to be the issue with Ledger and the backdoor they rammed up the buttholes of their customers.  At least with something like a BitBox, you can check the code if you're savvy enough.  Good luck.
771  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC holders, do not reveal your identity online on: June 09, 2023, 09:59:10 AM
The world is turning into something else and safety is becoming what everyone wants more then money itself.

People are dying in the most tragic ways nowadays.
Ehhhh....no, it's pretty much always been this way.  And at certain points in history it's been much worse in terms of violence and desperation and/or greed.  I've read books from decades ago in which people were saying that society is going downhill, but in the grand scheme of things it really isn't.

Anyway, I hadn't heard of this case before.  Now that I have, I'm not sure if it convinces me of OP's statement about bitcoiners concealing their identities.  Some of the biggest BTC holders are well-known, and hopefully they have good personal security.  I would agree that if you have enough crypto worth stealing you really should keep the amount to yourself--but frankly I think most people do keep that a secret already.  I don't think I've ever come across a thread here where anyone has disclosed how much bitcoin they owned.  Guess it's a good practice in real life, too, because that's where thieves, kidnappers, and the like are going to learn enough about you to make you a target.

Lucky for me I'll never be such a target, as I'm perpetually poor.  Heh heh.
772  Economy / Reputation / Re: MODS. . . When are you removing this negative rating on my profile? on: June 09, 2023, 12:36:47 AM
For what it’s worth, I don’t see your profile as having a -1 but that is because I have DT removed from my trust network due to people like marlboroza who make heavy handed decisions when it comes to leaving negative trust.
Ditto (but not for the same reasons).  However, I'm pretty sure it's not the rare cases like us who have rebuked the DT system that concern OP but rather the 99.x% of the rest of the forum who will end up seeing his red tag.

Aside from marlboroza being MIA, he did leave a reference link for the feedback he left so it's not as though it isn't justified or something that should be removed after an arbitrary period of time.  Assuming what marlboroza alleged is true, I don't see what OP has done since the feedback was given that would warrant it being removed.

1. Why didn't you come out to defend yourself against the accusations and feedback that were made against your account at that time?
While that's a valid question, even if OP successfully defends himself, there's still the issue of marlboroza not being active.  I guess someone on DT could leave a counter-feedback, but OP really ought to have spoken up when the accusation was made.
773  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best open source hardware wallets for BTC? on: June 08, 2023, 08:32:06 PM
Ledger will probably lose a percentage of their current userbase because people have found out their hardware wallets aren't as safe as they trusted Ledger they would be.
No doubt about that--but I don't suspect that Ledger is ever going to release the numbers since they're not a public company and thus don't have to.  Nor are they likely to further damage their brand by announcing a drop in sales or in users.  But man, I really would like to know how much this debacle is (or is going to) hitting them as far as profits go.

And to Abiky I'd say with respect to HW wallets, closed-source code is a bad thing as Ledger has proven.  Such code might be acceptable in other things, but not when it comes to crypto--at least not as far as I can see.

From everything I've read since this went down with Ledger, the best HW wallet brands for bitcoin are BitBox, Blockstream Jade, and Keystone.  Some folks have mentioned others, but I'm pretty sure that's because they were paid sponsorships on Youtube.  I'm pretty turned off by Ledger and HW wallets in general now, so I don't think I'll be buying any new ones (except perhaps as collectibles).
774  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: June 08, 2023, 06:23:57 PM

Just fresh [/url]  (as of May 31, 2023)  example:  millions of motherboard sold by well known maker such as  Gigabyte have  backdoor in firmware . It is not hard to  imagine  what would happen if those who wanna opt that Ledger Recover connect their  devices to   compromised motherboards like those from Gigabyte.
Jesus Christ, with all of this scammy shit going on I'm now really regretting that I didn't major in computer science.  Not that it would have helped me discover that Gigabyte mobo backdoor or anything of the sort, but I think I'd feel more secure with just a bit more knowledge about how tech works.  Ah well, it's too late now.

I'm still following the Ledger subreddit and it's amazing that they still have so many supporters, presumably people who ought to know better than to keep trusting them.  As I said previously, many of them just don't get the points being made in this thread, i.e., that as long as that backdoor exists it doesn't matter if you subscribe to their recovery service or not; Ledger can access your keys whenever they want.
775  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Outdated Electrum Wallet: My Experience. on: June 05, 2023, 10:29:30 AM
According to OP, the transaction was local.
Most probably, it was an unconfirmed transaction which was dropped from the mempool after a while.
Yep, that's happened to me a number of times before (though I didn't go through the panic that OP did, because I knew what the transactions were).  Hopefully this is just a case of him not remembering some transaction he did a long time ago.

Speaking of using old Electrum releases, anyone know why the Satochip HW wallet requires users to run an outdated version?  I'm talking about the Satochip that you have to plug into the proprietary card reader, not the new thing they have available that doesn't require it.  It seems odd to me that you have to use version 4.1.5 and can't upgrade.  That might be a tad bit off-topic, but not by much.  I assume it's fairly safe to keep using it, since I haven't heard of any Electrum wallet getting hacked because of being out of date, but who knows.
776  Economy / Speculation / Re: Automated posting on: June 05, 2023, 10:06:24 AM

I'm sorry, I just had to laugh at this pic and sorry for quoting it and taking up space.  That clock-staring cat could have been me over the years.  I don't know how many times I've posted "bitcoin will take 25 years to get to $X, and if it does we'll probably be in a zombie apocalypse".  And then way, waaaay before I knew it bitcoin would surge past $X and then higher and higher to new dollar amounts that I'd never have predicted.

Thinking back on what could have been makes my skin crawl.

What the hell is this thread about?  I only stumbled upon it doing post reviews.  Lol.
777  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A Non-Custodial wallet, Atomic Wallet, being compromised on: June 05, 2023, 10:00:29 AM
I wonder why people should still be using a wallet that support only legacy address when there is Segwit today. Any bitcoin wallet, that also support altcoins or not should not be used anymore if they can not follow the recent standards.
Don't know, I've never held bitcoin on an Atomic wallet (though I did download it for desktop just to see what the UI looked like) but that's probably not how they got hacked, right?

I don't know why anyone would use Atomic other than to take advantage of their staking function, but even then if you're staking a significant amount of whatever, why would you use a closed-source wallet like that?  It must be popular amongst those who don't know much about crypto security--but then again, a lot of knowledgeable crypto users kept coins on Ledger wallets right up until they announced their back door.  That's humanity for you; it's in our nature to want to trust others....until we learn the hard way not to.
778  Economy / Reputation / Re: NicNacCoin account has been sold on: June 04, 2023, 09:15:59 AM
Tired, perhaps?
Yes, you have no idea.  And that's also why I'm so effing behind on doing post history reviews, which I feel bad about.

All my whiny BS aside, I'm going to tag homeboy up in this bitch like a pro graffiti artist in NYC circa 1979.  I just need to take a breath.  I've handed out negative trust plenty of times on evidence like this alone.  A change in language quality from good to bad just doesn't happen unless the account changed hands.  If someone could offer up an alternative explanation, I'm all ears.
779  Economy / Reputation / Re: NicNacCoin account has been sold on: June 04, 2023, 08:26:12 AM
OK, come on guys.  Take a look at the quality of English written in this post from 2017 (the thread is locked and I don't know how to quote it properly):

Quote
I am not sure how reliable or accurate the source or information contained within the post is however I can clarify that NicNacCoin had contacted cryptopia to garner support for ForkNote based currency with all that has recently happened within the CryptoNote community that last few days. It was not a resubmission were we paid a listing fee, only to point out that the version of ForkNote daemon and simplewallet v2.0.11 which was delisted due to instability issues on their systems was noted my many experts as being the safest version for any cryptonote to run and to add the fact that our configuration file consisted of no checkpoints which is now also being advised to check for proof of no-double spending exist. We were also made aware that Poloniex was interested into the possibilites of adding a ForkNote based currency to their exchange but not told specifically that it would be NNC.

There are many concerns moving forward in the area of cryptonote currency and we continue to give our best efforts the securing the best platform that we can. We thank all of our supports for their support.

We suggest anyone interested in seeing NNC return to cryptopia submit a written request https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/Home/Contact
along with their thoughts and opinions.

And now here's one of the first posts after NicNacCoin's return in 2021:

A successful project has many importants things.. firstly it should have good communication community, trusty team management. If a good communication spreading it's popularity and reputation among the investors then it would have highly possible to success.

OK, how about this one?

Quote
Non frangible Token (NFTs) are like as assets like land and home, you can easily get money from NFTs by selling and buying NFTs. NFTs becoming more and more popular day by day . Most of the people are interesting themselves collecting different NFTs.

Now I ask you, the community: which do you think is more likely, that the account was handed over to someone who writes worse English or that NicNacCoin suffered a brain injury in 2017 so severe that when he recovered in 2021 he began writing posts like a typical shitposting bounty hunter?  I'd like to hear NicNacCoin's take on that.
780  Other / Meta / Re: Ban Appeal For DiMarxist on: June 04, 2023, 08:11:31 AM
Those two statements kind of don't jibe.
Of course they don't since you omitted first part of the sentence where I thought that was his only case of plagiarism in which case I wouldn't personally give anyone permanent but instead signature ban but then it was discovered that it wasn't the only case and he was doing it on the regular basis whihc changes things dramatically and was probably the reason why he was perma banned.
Heh?  I'm saying that arguing for any kind of signature ban, even if it's temporary (and I doubt it'd be that short) would drive the member to create a new account to start earning money with--and you acknowledged that the latter half of that statement is true.  So why dole out any signature ban?

Anyway, please forgive me if there's a misunderstanding--it's quite possible, as I was up >24 hours when I wrote that post and have yet to go to sleep.  My mind is foggy and everything is running on autopilot.  It's amazing that I can even type out legible sentences.

By the way, I haven't been looking at too many ban appeal threads lately and don't have a sense of what the mods are doing in the way of punishment for plagiarism.  Are they actually handing out signature bans?  Has anyone received one?
