901  Other / Meta / Re: Messages for deleted posts - from 4 years ago? on: April 06, 2023, 09:23:25 AM
I just happened to visit an ANN thread for an altcoin yesterday, and as it's a particularly shitty one there were a bunch of posts which were obviously done to either bump the thread or to give the impression that there was a lot of interest in the coin.  The thread was from a year or so ago, and a couple of the posts were so bad that I reported them, even though they were clearly old and probably forgotten about.

Don't know if something similar happened in OP's case or how the mods treat reports for old posts, but it's not a big deal and I imagine there are a number of reasons an old post of yours could get nuked.  Not a big deal, OP.
902  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Most Durable Hardware Wallets on: April 06, 2023, 08:54:47 AM
I don't see why  hardware wallets should be made like cheap chinese toys that easily breaks and stop working when sprinkled with water.
Floods are very common in some parts in the worlds, even my friends old house was totally flooded few years ago.
That's definitely true--and I can envision scenarios where idiots like me would drop a HW wallet in the toilet.  I think at a minimum any HW wallet should be able to survive a toilet; if it fails that test, it's certainly not going to make it through a flood, a swimming pool, or some drunk dickhead pissing on it.

This is a great experiment to do, IMO, although personally I'm not too concerned about heavy damage so much as a device ceasing to work over time.  In fact, I'm way more concerned about ease of use than something being near-indestructable.  Like the Bitbox 02; I like the user interface but it makes my mouse slow down and skip to the extent that I don't even use it anymore.  Anyway, good luck!
903  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Microstrategy bought more bitcoin on: April 06, 2023, 07:14:18 AM
OP, there's also that other thread all about MSTR in the Economics section you know.  I have no doubt this news has or will be posted there, and that's kind of the main thread dealing with Michael Saylor, MicroStrategy, and their bitcoin dealings (even though Economics seems like the wrong section for it to be in).

But whatever, I always get into heated debates with the locals there (lol).  I've been saying that it might not be a prudent move on Saylor's part to be buying all of that bitcoin with his company's funds, since it's not entirely his company but a publicly traded one, with shareholders who might not have thought they were buying a stock that's a proxy to bitcoin itself.  All's good when bitcoin's price soars, but what happens to the stock if and when bitcoin tanks?

And what would happen if Saylor were forced to sell all of MSTR's bitcoin all at once?  It might not be probable, but it's possible.  I don't know if it's enough to drive the price down if it were dumped on the market all at once, but it couldn't help.  Eh.  That's just where my mind goes.  I have mixed feelings about this particular topic I guess.
904  Other / Meta / Re: [Paused] Rules for my post history review offer *updated* on: April 06, 2023, 06:48:30 AM
OK, I've taken a longer break than I thought I would from reviewing posts, and I apologize for that.  I just woke up not too long ago, so I need to get some coffee into me and wake up a bit, and then I hope to pick up where I left off in the very long list of members who've requested reviews.  Please note that said list is so long that I've paused the offer to new members for now, so if you've never requested one from me, now isn't the time to start--so please don't.

I'll restart it to new members if and when I get caught up and/or the PMs stop flooding my inbox.

K?  Have a nice day, now.
905  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: @Active Members of Bitcointalk: Why have you created an Account here? on: April 05, 2023, 07:40:21 AM
Take a look at this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5262967, it'll definitely answer your questions as well as learn something gold from other people.
HOLY SHIT.  I absolutely do not remember writing all of that.  I couldn't have been in a blackout at the time, so it's freaking me out seeing all of that.

But anyway, at least I don't have to write the answer to OP's question again since I just linked to everything you'd ever want to know about how I found the forum.

Cryptotalk was a joke, by the way.  Right from the beginning.  When Yobit announces they have a new forum and are recruiting people from bitcointalk to get paid to post in it, the only possible outcome is an unnecessary forum filled with the bottom-feeders from another one (bitcointalk).  There was so much plagiarism it was ridiculous, and I'd like to forget it ever existed eventually.

907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mixing is NOT money laundering, per se on: April 05, 2023, 01:23:21 AM
Anyone thinking of bitcoin mixing with money laundering is not real citizen of a country.
Eh?  I didn't get your point there, but I think I agree with your argument if it's that mixing doesn't equate with money laundering necessarily.  I'm pretty sure mixers could be used to launder money or for some other illicit purpose, but I don't think they're inherently evil like the US and some other governments seem to believe.  Some people prize their privacy above all else in the world of bitcoin--like Satoshi, for instance.  And I always think of Lauda when I think of members here who've guarded their personal information intensely, and not just their bitcoin transactions.  Me?  I'm sure I could be doxxed in 2 minutes flat, but I respect people's need for as much anonymity as they're comfortable with.

Governments don't want people to have privacy; that's a fact.  It's been that way for a long time, but I think as technology has advanced privacy (and alarmingly, people's concern for it) has started swirling down the toilet bowl like a tornado twister.  I could go on and on, but I won't.  This is a good discussion to have, but I think it's a conversation some of the bigger bitcoiners need to have with regulators.
908  Other / Archival / Re: [ANN] [banned mixer] - Best Bitcoin Mixer / Bitcoin Tumbler on: April 04, 2023, 11:42:08 PM
I'm checking this thread out because I'm interested in joining the sig campaign you have going and want to see if the project looks legitimate or not....and I just have to tell you that you really need a copy editor, because to anyone who's fluent in English it looks to be a mess.  Not such a mess that things aren't coherent, but what's "24/24"?  And that little bugaboo is in addition to the many grammatical nightmares.  Just sayin'.

And by looking at the comments of some of the members who know what they're talking about when it comes to blockchain machinations, I don't think I'm going to be renting out my sig space to this project.  I'm not against mixers, because I know a lot of bitcoiners value their privacy to an extent that the average Joe doesn't, but I see some of the red flags that have been pointed out and it doesn't inspire confidence.

OK, I'm an idiot when it comes to this shit but where did that data come from?  I'm very curious.  I'm also curious what's going to happen to ML risk across all the used addresses over time, as coins keep circulating.  It seems ridiculous to assign a moral quality to the money (bitcoin) you have; it's like you're tainted because the $20 bill in your pocket was used to buy heroin, a blowjob, or to bet on an illegal cockfight.
909  Economy / Reputation / Re: Incorrect use of red feedback. on: April 04, 2023, 05:54:31 PM
We are here longer than you exists and trust me it's just another topic about Royse. It's just constructed to look like it's about the feedback on your trust page and coinplay accusations.

Huh

You are detracting from the thread.

I got this far in the thread, and you may have cooled down some, but if you're still aggravated enough to report those posts (even though you're not wrong in doing so, that kind of off-topic stuff is par for the course in Meta/Reputation threads), take a deep breath and slowly exhale.

Looking at the feedback Loyse777 left, I don't think it's absolutely inappropriate--but I do think it ought to be neutral and not negative, especially if he's on DT.  But if he truly doesn't trust the members he left that trust for and would have left it anyway, i.e., in a non-retaliatory manner, I might be on the fence about it.  DT members have left negs for way less than what happened in this case, with no ensuing drama.  However I don't think that's what's happening here; I do think Royse777's feedback is getting some get-back if you know what I mean.

Oh the drama.  Better phone my mamma!

It never ends with Loyse777, does it?  What happened?  It's like he went from being a respected member one minute, and then tossed into a leper's colony at mach 5 the next.  Don't answer that.  I know the story.

Edit:

Me and airfinex being alts is another BS that is obvious to anyone looking at the two profiles. I was also accused at the time that Naim027 and I were alts, so I'm not even going to stop to take it apart.
OK, I now got this far in the thread and I have to say that I'm also not buying either of those theories, especially not the Naim027 claim.  He was a very poor writer if I remember correctly, and you are far from that.  That could be faked of course, but I still don't believe you're his or airfinex's alt.
910  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase planning to close accounts of certain users on 9th April? on: April 03, 2023, 05:16:33 PM
They haven't cared to even state what their updated standards of services are, No official announcement of such a thing except that email messages to some users
Yep, but that's amazingly been their pattern of behavior for years now.  They've been nuking people's accounts without explanation since at least 2015 and likely since they opened for business.  I don't know about anyone else, but it's astounding to me that they've managed to maintain such a shitty level of customer service for such a long period of time.  That tells me the rot inside Coinbase trickles down from the top, and they probably need new management.

TL;DR:  Fuck Coinbase.
911  Economy / Speculation / Re: I missed the bottom or i have time to invest on: April 03, 2023, 09:31:42 AM
If you know technical analysis, market makers, and whales know it too. The market is unpredictable, and if you can't take the risk, don't invest.
I would also add that asking a whole bunch of basic questions about investing in crypto on an internet forum is probably the worst way to approach getting started--especially the one about recommendations for altcoins.  As soon as you ask that here, usually people chime in with whatever crap they're holding, and any advice is going to be confusing at best.

The only thing I can say about whether it's too late to buy into bitcoin, i.e., whether OP missed the bottom, is that nobody ever knows where the bottom is except in hindsight.  And even then it's very much possible that bitcoin could drop again and hit another low point.  Trying to time the market is an exercise in futility IMO.  If I were you, OP, I'd just stick with the DCA plan or buy some btc whenever you've got some spare cash.  It's a sanity saving option, because you'll drive yourself nuts if you keep thinking of all the profits you've missed.
912  Other / Meta / Re: How did you enjoyed the Captcha on: April 02, 2023, 01:59:34 AM
Where you afraid when you first noticed the red flag?
No.  I might well have been had there not been at least one thread the other day spoiling what might have been a surprise--but alas, every year there's always at least one started up prior to April 1st dealing with what the joke might be.

As far as the captcha thing goes, I wasn't in the mood for figuring out what Theymos was doing.  I only noticed that I could post normally without having to play Super Mario BCT, so that's what I did.  This year's fun & games could have been so much edgier given all that's happened since this time last year....but it wasn't.  Meh.
913  Other / Meta / Re: How to overcome this new captcha on: April 01, 2023, 09:26:18 PM
Imagine all the effort only for the challenge to disappear the next day 😂
How can I give any credence to your words when you're a suspected spammer?  Well, maybe tomorrow I will.  Lol.

I smell merit begging.  Does anyone else catch the strong scent in the air here or is it just me?
914  Other / Meta / Re: New CAPTCHA now required before posting on: April 01, 2023, 07:20:57 PM
Right now the CAPTCHA is in beta testing, so it only shows a warning banner for likely spammers, but in 2 weeks everyone who fails the CAPTCHA will be immediately banned, so you'd better get used to it!
Really! This is the poorest April in the forum calendar :-D
I can't remember a lot of the other ones, but this particular year doesn't pop out to me as being exceptionally lame.  The best part of it is seeing people freak out, and I've already seen enough of that to give me my daily allowance of chuckle therapy.

Props to Theymos and *ahem* PowerGlove for the new algorithm.  Spammers be gone!
915  Economy / Reputation / Re: This user is a suspected spammer! on: April 01, 2023, 07:13:32 PM
I'm not a spammer!
Reported for classic one-liner spam, should have made this self moderated…
I'm not a suspected scammer!  Or a spammer!

Damn you, Theymos!

OP, you're a Hero member.  How did you get fooled by the April Fool's Day shenanigans?
916  Economy / Reputation / Re: Cygan abuses DT - Proof! on: April 01, 2023, 07:11:08 PM
Users can add whomever they want to their trust lists although they should be a little more strict if they're DT.
I know DT ain't what it used to be, but any DT member should still be way, way more prudent about who they add to their trust list and who they give positive trust to.  It's always been an expectation of DT members to demonstrate that kind of prudence, lest we end up with a bunch of unknowns on DT or with green trust that they could possibly scam somebody with.

Just my 2 cents, but this was some seriously bad judgement.

Edit: LOL, guess I got up too late and forgot what the date is.  Happy Fool's day!
917  Other / Meta / Re: What will happen tomorrow? on: March 30, 2023, 07:48:36 PM
  • Forum seized by '3 digits' entities
Sir, you are mistaken, there are no "3 digits" entities, its all in your head.
Never heard that term before--is that the equivalent of "alphabet agencies" as in the CIA, DEA, IRS, etc.?  Just curious.

And damned if I didn't forget about April coming up right around the corner!  It's always fun to watch the newbies and various other unaware members going apeshit.  Had OP not started this thread, I might have gotten fooled myself.  Thanks for ruining the whole thing, dude.
918  Other / Meta / Re: Spammers and Burst Posters only on: March 30, 2023, 07:27:47 PM
I remember a day that I made 20 posts, the posts were on new topics and existing threads that I have something to post.
A few years ago I was making at least 20 posts per day on the regular, and they weren't spammy (AFAIK; I wasn't getting many, if any, deleted by the mods).  Everything depends on quality as far as I'm concerned, but I don't think there's ever been a concrete definition of "burst posting".  It's just one of those things where you know it when you see it.

Also, from what I can tell it's only ever been a problem for people in signature campaigns.  I don't recall ever hearing complaints about people posting too frequently if they weren't earning money from it--unless it was truly spam, i.e., off-topic nonsense or advertising links and such.  If campaign managers are cracking down on burst posting, I'm all for it though I can't say I've found any examples of it myself lately.
919  Other / Meta / Re: Advertising on the forum no longer supported? on: March 30, 2023, 06:45:14 PM
Wow OP, I've been here the entire time you've been taking a break, and I hadn't even noticed the lack of advertising.  Either you're extremely perceptive or I'm at the extreme end of apathy toward such things.  I'm thinking reality is somewhere near the middle, skewed toward the latter.

And hey, with the layout of the forum looking exactly like it was for the last 8-10 years probably, you'd better believe it when Theymos says he's got enough money to sustain it for the foreseeable future.  Makes ya wonder whatever happened to that new forum software, right?
920  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Justin Sun sued by SEC. Effect on Bitcoin? on: March 29, 2023, 03:03:05 PM
But somehow as of this reply, Bitcoin price already recovered above $27k.
Yep.  Bitcoin somehow doesn't give a shit about what any government does (so far, anyway).

So the SEC is claiming TRX is a security?  Are they considering all cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, to be such as well?  I haven't paid much attention to what's been going on as far as regulation goes.  It is kind of funny to hear that all of those celebrities are being sued as well.  Celebrity endorsement is exactly what crypto doesn't need, as evidenced by Matt Damon hyping FTX or whatever that was he got paid for.  It just attracts the attention of 'regulators' who really want to do away with bitcoin and every other crypto as well.
