1061  Other / Meta / Re: New bitcointalk rank? 🔥 on: January 28, 2023, 10:11:37 AM
Actually there is no need for new ranks tbh. The current system works fine. People that post quality content rank up and shitposters won't make it.
Of course we don't need a new rank, and it's a given that idiot shitposters will never even get to Hero member status, but we've had this discussion a few times before and there are a sizeable number of people who would support adding a rank above Legendary.

I'm one of those, even though if nothing ever changed with the ranking system I'd be just fine with that.  But just like any other proposal, it doesn't matter what my opinion is--it matters what Theymos thinks of it, and last I heard he wasn't planning on adding any new ranks.

The admins on this forum may be slow to implement some new ideas and suggestions on this forum, but if it shows that there is interest and support from the forum community, they will eventually accept the suggestions.
I guess that's true for some ideas, but not for all of them, even ones that had a lot of community support (like having a mobile-friendly version of the site).  I'm also not sure to what extent the moderators are involved in the decision making process with respect to community proposals.  I get the sense that it's kind of a one-man show up on the mountain where Theymos lives.
1062  Economy / Reputation / Re: My Apology to Bitcoin Community and Request for a 2nd Chance on: January 27, 2023, 04:52:00 PM
I take full responsibility for the mistakes I have made in the past

but I have made poor choices and worked with scam projects as a bounty manager. However, I did not run away, but stayed here and continued using the forum.
When you're making an apology and say you're taking full responsibility for "mistakes", it's never a good idea to put a "but" in it, which is exactly what you've done.  I don't believe you're either apologizing or trying to make amends to the community, nor do I believe your promises that you won't keep on doing what you've been doing.

I'm going to be completely honest here: I suggested you open up a thread here so that everyone could blast you to smithereens, and I didn't really think you'd open yourself up to so much scrutiny and criticism given how much negative feedback you have.  The red trust I gave you was from March of 2018, and since then you've only continued to get more negatives from other members.  I've got a feeling you're asking me for feedback removal almost 3 years after it was given because you're planning on getting involved in some big project in which it's likely people are going to get screwed.

I believe in second chances, believe me, but you've used up any goodwill points you might have had with people who've seen you fuck things up for years.  My feedback will stand.
1063  Other / Meta / Re: Why we do not have an official YT/social media channel to counter mainstream? on: January 26, 2023, 11:46:46 PM
We need a mechanism to stop this nonsense from mainstream media. We as a community should come up with an idea to counter the mainstream media and I think an official channel of Bitcointalk which is also active should be on Youtube or on other social media as a start.
No.  That channel was supposed to be primarily about forum happenings, and apparently whoever started it got pooped out very quickly.  It wasn't intended--nor should it have been--to be just another bitcoin-hyping Youtube channel.  There are plenty of those, and they all suck dicks.

I'd also pose the question as to whether people in El Salvador are turning to bitcoin instead of another stable fiat currency.  I recall hearing lots of stories about how much bitcoin and alts like Dash were being used in Venezuela during their hyperinflationary crisis, but from what I've heard since those reports were exaggerated at best.  My point is that if mainstream media isn't telling the truth about something, that ought to be challenged, but in an appropriate venue.  Bitcointalk's YT channel isn't appropriate at all.
1064  Economy / Economics / Re: A bullish case: HOW MUCH #BITCOIN to get rich and fund your lifestyle? on: January 26, 2023, 11:39:57 AM
Notwithstanding his math, which carries a bit of exaggeration, these are all pure speculations.
Uh, yeah.  This is nothing but extremely optimistic, borderline nutty speculation.  This very much reminds me of the big bull run in gold and silver leading up to 2011 when I was a member of a coin collecting forum.  People would be in fantasy land, making outrageous price predictions if everyone in the world bought just one ounce of silver.

And by the way, does anyone think they would have seen a tweet like this one about two weeks ago?  You only see crap like this when bitcoin is taking off like a rocket, because the euphoria clouds people's judgement.  But hey, 0.6BTC might eventually make someone wealthy.  Who knows?
1065  Economy / Reputation / Re: SBF-Ross Ulbricht on: January 26, 2023, 08:24:31 AM
I certainly don't think Ross Ulbricht deserves multiple lifetime sentences for creating a website, we know corrupt government officials stole BTC in that case, and Ross was framed for many things.
I've read this thread up to this point and haven't seen anything mentioned about the hit he put out on someone.  I've only learned about the case through the few bitcoin documentaries I've watched that he was featured in, so I'm not sure what's true.  But if indeed he was trying to have someone killed, I think he ought to have gotten life with the possibility of parole at the worst.  Silk Road?  Yep, drugs are illegal but I've got my own opinions as to the fairness of the laws dealing with them.

So no, in no case should Ross Ulbricht never have the chance for parole.  That's ridiculous to me, but then again the US justice system is completely fucked from top to bottom, so what do you expect?

As far as SBF goes, he doesn't deserve a sentence that's even close to RU.  I don't know all the facts of the case, but in the end it's money we're talking about, a white collar crime.  There's no way a LWOP sentence should be handed down.
1066  Other / Meta / Re: Know who ignores who on: January 26, 2023, 04:31:24 AM
If you think someone's giving you the cold shoulder, the best bet is to message them directly and ask.
If you expect a response from someone in a thread and they never write one, or for pretty much any other reason you might think you're being ignored, chances are that it's because very few members here actually read posts--and it's even rarer to have two or more members having an actual discussion.  Most sig campaigners and all bounty hunters I bet just write something quick based on the title of the thread.  Even if it looks like they're reading because they quoted someone else's post, they usually just write generic shit.

I'm glad there's no way to know who's on who's ignore list.  That would add one more layer of drama to the forum, which is something we definitely do not need.
1067  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please Help, Am Running low on ideas. on: January 26, 2023, 01:22:10 AM
Good lord. If you don't have anything constructive to make a thread about then don't go forcing yourself to find something. Just shitpost in one of the other gazillion threads.
I love it when you come out with responses like this, because they're even more bilious coming from a moderator.

But what you wrote is blunt and absolutely correct.  Why the hell would anyone feel pressured to start threads on this forum or any other?  I just don't get that kind of thinking, and it makes me wonder about OP's mental health.  I only create a thread when there's something I really want to discuss or if I have a question that I need an answer to.  Most of the time nothing ever pops into my noggin, and it never troubles me.

He can summarise that stuff and share it here with the link to the article.
Hydrogen does this often in the Economics section if OP needs an example to follow, though his threads are pretty hard to beat IMO.
1068  Other / Meta / Re: How many forum members do you know by real name? on: January 26, 2023, 01:09:12 AM
Okay, here's a warning: From now on, every time you see o_e_l_e_o's post, you'll hear Olé  Olé  Olé in your head. Just like me Cheesy
I am not OK with this. Tongue
Heh heh....every time I see your username, I hear yodeling in my head and think of the word diphthong

..and I guess someone like CHYMIST should be worth craving for (jokes yunno)
You talkin' 'bout me, sweet sister?  I'm down to clown in a Burger King bathroom if it comes to that, but I only give out my real name to people I trust, and said trust has to be earned.  Earned, if you know what I'm sayin'.
1069  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: HitBTC ATTENTION on: January 25, 2023, 09:11:05 PM
That site has been scamming people got years. You could try legal action, i think they're based in Hongkong.
Yeah, good luck with that.  Who even knows what their laws are as far as what crypto exchanges can and can't do; plus you'd have to hire a lawyer that's willing and able to sue a company of questionable legitimacy in Hong Kong, and unless there's a huge amount of money involved here, it wouldn't be worth it.

I got scammed by these jokers before, but it was for a laughably small amount of an obscure altcoin (Curecoin).  The only reason I created an account with HitBTC was because that coin wasn't trading anywhere else.  After that I started hearing more complaints about their shady practices--but never anything about Skype calls.  That seems odd to me.

Anyway, good luck to you OP.  I have a feeling you're going to be shit out of luck, but I do wish you the best.
1070  Other / Meta / Re: [ASK] Why my account got banned? on: January 25, 2023, 08:54:16 PM
Well, since it only took you a day to get banned, my guess (without knowing what the message you got was) is that you plagiarized something, did some serious spamming, or got caught evading a ban.  Are you so sleep deprived that you did one of those three things?

Edit:

Maybe check someone's post history on Ninjastic first before commenting. Tongue Wink
Lol, c'mon you know I'm too damn lazy to do that, and I have so many sections on ignore that I couldn't see any of what OP posted.

My humblest apologies, OP.  I'm having my period and it's making me a raging bitch.
1071  Economy / Reputation / Re: Admins, ban jollygood and scamvirus on: January 25, 2023, 04:05:49 PM
OP, if you're calling a feedback left for you that you disagree with (or any disputed feedback) "false news" then you're watching way too much TV or mainstream media crap--and that's in addition to you creating a straw man argument.

And again, you've been here long enough to know that bitcointalk doesn't even ban scammers, so why the fuck do you think moderators or Theymos are going to get involved with making a judgement call on whether a feedback is rightly or wrongly given?  Do you know how many of them are given each day?  I don't, but I'm guessing the number is enormous, and there's no way in hell there's enough time or staff to handle disputes.

Just stop bitching.  Nobody is going to jump in here to support you, because we've all got problems and nobody likes whiners.
1072  Economy / Economics / Re: How is the cost of living in your country? on: January 25, 2023, 12:40:02 PM
Petrol is over $2.10 a litre and my water and electricity bills have also increased by about 15%.
Short rant: it drives me bonkers that the US (where I live) never adopted the metric system--and the fact that there are so many units of measure for things like weight, volume, etc.  Ugh.

I had to look up the conversion from AUD to USD to get a sense of how much that gas price is, with a secondary conversion from liters to gallons, and if my retarded arithmetic is right you're paying roughly $5.64 USD per gallon of gas/petrol.  If that's correct, that's way more expensive than in any state in the US.  In my area, gas is selling in the general $3/gallon range and I think that's higher than most other states.

OP, you're not alone in noticing inflation first hand.  I've posted about prices of things like cat food and other items I regularly buy going up slowly but steadily.  A pack of Starbucks instant coffee (Via, 12 individual packets) was around $5 back in 2015.  Well, I started noticing last year that they were getting way more expensive and began to take pictures at the store.  Here are two, the first from 6/2022 and the second from 8/2022:

And you might not be able to see it, but those are now sold in quantities of 8 packets, not 12!

TL;DR: I feel your pain, OP.  I really, really do.
1073  Economy / Economics / Re: Is renting an inevitable waste of money? on: January 25, 2023, 04:08:57 AM
If you're young and haven't inherited a property from your ancestors, chances are that you're forced to rent. Personally, I've been renting for over 6 years and have been living with my girlfriend for the last 4, sharing rent and utilities.
I'd like to suggest that at least you're fortunate enough to have a partner that you seem to care about, and renting is definitely a lot easier when you're sharing the bills with one or more roommates.  And I wouldn't feel bad about not owning a house outright--I've been renting all my life and although I generally hate dealing with landlords and leases, when you own a house:

1. You're stuck there, pretty much.  A house is a commitment to living in it for years (usually).
2. Got snow to shovel?  Get your boots on, 'cause nobody's doing it for you.  Same goes for repairs and whatever else that can go wrong with a building.
3. Your heating bill is probably going to be a LOT higher just due to the size difference between a home and an apartment.
4. You pay all sorts of expenses related to your home, ranging from taxes to God knows what else.  Plus the value of it can rise or fall dramatically.  Maybe not like bitcoin, but a house is still an asset with a very big market.

Those are just some of the drawbacks of owning property, and I was never willing to deal with any of them.  But a lot of people do, because there are some real positives about being king of your land, so to speak.
1074  Economy / Reputation / Re: Remove negative feedback on: January 24, 2023, 03:59:53 PM
Only the man who gave you the feedback can help in this case.
Gotta love it when people have been here for as long as OP has and still don't know the basics of how things work.  True, he's not very active...but then again, since that's true I'm not sure what the big deal is with having a negative feedback.

OP, it isn't likely that JollyGood is going to remove your feedback since he has very strong feelings against 1xbit as an entity and about their signature campaign, which I don't fault him for.  Making a claim that you won big but not providing evidence isn't a tag-worthy offense IMO, but again because 1xbit was mentioned JG shot the red paintball at you remorselessly.

I'd wish you luck, but I don't and I'll instead suggest you lock this thread.
1075  Economy / Reputation / Re: My apology to all. And please read the whole post before you do anything. on: January 24, 2023, 02:07:06 PM
Your sister's account is Tanvi50_?  So whose account is halim50_?  You've sent merits to and received merits from that one as well, and I find it extremely hard to believe that a username format like that one would be used by two different accounts and show up on your merit history.

I think you're a cheater at the very least and probably a blatant liar as well.  The whole "blah blah blah a relative" thing has been used so many times by barnacle-sucking scumbags that it raises a red flag in my mind immediately.
1076  Other / Meta / Re: How many forum members do you know by real name? on: January 24, 2023, 10:07:56 AM
If you exchanged fiat for crypto online, and a payment service like PayPal or Skrill was used, chances are that real names were involved.
That's true, though I didn't even think of that when I was trying to think of members I was more familiar with than just knowing their name--but I guess that was the question being asked, not "how many friends do you have from the forum?".  So I guess if I answered OP's question in the strictest sense....it's way more than four, and it'd have to include members who've made their names public, like Vod and some others.

AH, but do you really know?
I thought of that when I came up with my number, and the truth is that they could be fibbing about their real names, but unless a few of them are spooks from some law enforcement agency (and that's being unnecessarily paranoid) I have no reason to think they're lying.
1077  Economy / Economics / Re: Power outages causes huge economic loss in south Africa. on: January 24, 2023, 07:38:09 AM
should have bought a generator.
Yeah, fuck that farmer for his own goddamn negligence and may the smell of those rotting birds forever be in his nostrils.

Uh huh.  Not sure about how big his operation is, but I'm guessing he might not have had enough money to buy a generator big enough to power a poultry farm.  Or, like a lot of people, he just didn't think he'd ever need one until he really needed one.

Something similar sort of happened in the USA as well, in Texas and this was last year if I am not wrong.
There have been all kinds of blackouts in the US over the years and for a variety of reasons.  Back in 2000, California was having "rolling blackouts" because Enron was manipulating the energy market so hard that they drove up prices to the point where CA just couldn't get enough supply (I may have the details a little bit wrong, but I'm not way off base).

And right now, electricity prices are skyrocketing.  We're being told it's because of the Russia/Ukraine war, but I'm not sure if I buy that.
1078  Economy / Economics / Re: Can I take a loan to invest in bitcoin? on: January 23, 2023, 06:17:10 PM
We have a couple of older topics concerning loans and bitcoin. Majority of people's opinions in the replies still stand.
Don't remember the last time I replied in one of those threads, but my feelings are certainly still the same--you would be nuts to borrow money in order to buy bitcoin, especially if it's a high interest loan.  It seems like some people get very interested in doing this when there's a sharp break to the upside in bitcoin's price, and that's classic FOMO thinking.

The fact is that while you might just get lucky and make enough of a profit to make the loan a smart idea (in retrospect, of course), bitcoin has been known to break people in half with its glorious and notorious volatility, and its tendency to not do what you want it to do.  I'm sure all of you have heard that advice "don't invest more than you can comfortably lose".  Well if you're borrowing money to gamble in the crypto market, you're obviously not heeding that wise mantra.

Some people have to learn the hard way, though.
1079  Other / Meta / Re: Can someone clarify please? Why is there a local rule to ban a member! on: January 23, 2023, 10:00:30 AM
The problem with gatekeepers of "truth" is that you're trusting someone to know the truth in an absolute manner and trusting that they won't use that power of censorship for any reason other than preventing people from writing words that the gatekeeper deems wrong....and I fucking hate that whole setup.  I think most of us know Youtube and Facebook were performing the role of gatekeeper of COVID information, and they were taking orders from the US government. Ugh.

Bottom line: Misinformation should be allowed.  The solution is debate with facts presented, not some big daddy figure protecting you from posts that might give you the wrong idea--assuming it is the wrong idea.
1080  Other / Off-topic / Re: My story and where it is now..... on: January 23, 2023, 03:57:00 AM
I'm in America where bribery will get me nowhere in the medical system. I'm not saying it cannot happen, but it's not likely. If I was a politician, then yes bribery 100% would work.
I don't know if I totally agree with that assessment, because our entire government is basically bribed by lobbyists, and as for the medical system...I mean c'mon.  There have been cases a-plenty of wrongdoing doctors, e.g., Dr. Feelgoods who write scripts for whatever you like if you can pay cash.  Don't underestimate the effect of money on anyone in any position if they're susceptible to greed.

And the first thing I thought of was David Crosby (he's a now-deceased musician for all you young'ins who didn't know).  From his Wikipedia page:

Quote
Crosby was the recipient of a highly publicized liver transplant, paid for by Phil Collins, in 1994. News of his transplant created some controversy because of his celebrity status and his past problems with drug and alcohol addiction. Crosby's liver problems stemmed from a long run with hepatitis C.

I'm not sayin' Crosby and fuckin' Phil Collins did a little backdoor dealing....but a patient like Crosby at the time would have had to have a low-priority status for a transplant.
