1081  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: The Collectibles Issue on: January 22, 2023, 08:25:15 PM
Thanks for bringing this to my attention; I rarely browse the Collectibles section. I've honestly never understood why people would want to buy loaded private keys and not sweep them immediately.
I do get the novelty / pleasure of a physical item that also holds value, but pre-loading is not the way to go.
Ugh....if there were a 100% foolproof, failure-proof way of putting a private key onto something like a coin or other collectible thing I'd probably jump headfirst into that aspect of crypto collectibles.  But the fact is that I wouldn't buy a pre-loaded coin because I wouldn't be able to bring myself to unpeel it or otherwise damage it in order to access the key.

I traded a member here for a bunch of HW wallets, which I collect on a part-time basis, but even though I happen to like that member and really don't think he planted any landmines there's no way I'd put any crypto on a beaut like this:

Just look at this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3315347.0
It almost feels like every such company has gone full exit-scam sooner or later.
Yeah, I remember the Gravitate fiasco very well, and that was over 6 years ago.  Maybe I was still naive, but I was actually surprised by what happened.
1082  Other / Meta / Re: How many forum members do you know by real name? on: January 22, 2023, 08:08:29 PM
How many do you know by name because of your forum dealings and relationships? Have you ever wished you could meet someone from the forum, but it never happened? Can you call anyone from this community a friend, and why?
I know four members by name, but I've never met them in person so I'm not sure if that qualifies as knowing them "in real life".  Two of them I correspond with outside the forum, and I'd consider them friends-at-a-distance as opposed to the kind of friend you can call up and tell all your problems to.

I have one active pen pal relationship with a member, and there's another member I really ought to write more often.  These are letters via snail mail, and I treasure them.

And absolutely, I'd love to meet a lot of members from bitcointalk!  I think I once even made a joke about having a picnic where everyone has to wear a name tag with their username on it.  There's no way in hell that's going to happen, given how many people want to maintain a high level of anonymity, but I still wish I could meet some of the personalities I've been seeing here over the years.

On the flip side, I'm not sure I'd want to reveal to everyone just what I'm like in real life.  Sometimes you just don't want to have all the facts, if you know what I mean (lol).
1083  Economy / Reputation / Re: Injustice while Tagging on: January 22, 2023, 12:01:27 PM
I am surprised to see that no one in MetaMallVerse scam accusation topic mentioned their ongoing bounty campaign and warned Royse777 about this situation as it looks like a clear scammy shitcoin project with anonymous team and plagiarized whitepaper.
So am I right in my understanding that the main wrongdoing here is the plagiarized whitepaper?  That's certainly wrong to do and doesn't reflect well on the integrity of whoever's behind the project, but that doesn't say much about how legit MetaMallVerse is or to what extent Royse777's reputation ought to be sullied.

I don't condone plagiarism by any means, but correct me if I'm wrong: it's a thing that's accepted in certain parts of the world, something that people wouldn't think twice about and certainly wouldn't believe it would cause problems (especially if those people were young and/or naive).  We've seen it happen so many times with ICOs that I can't imagine project owners would continue plagiarizing if they knew they'd be held to task for it.

Anyway, we'll see if Royse777 knew about the whitepaper.  If he's doing the campaign manager job properly, I don't see why OP is making a fuss because he hasn't been tagged.
1084  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Plagiarized Whitepaper - MEMV MetaMallVerse on: January 22, 2023, 10:02:39 AM
The main reason for hiring someone is English is not our native language. That's why we needed to hire someone to write our whitepaper, also writing needs different skills.
Jesus, I would have done a great job for you for a reasonable price and would offer that service to any project that isn't a blatant scam or just a money-grab.  Even though I would have predicted a 99.99% failure for this idea (it looks like eBay, only in some metaverse, and you better believe a big corporation is going to make that happen if there's interest) I probably would have done it.

You can't tell me there aren't proofreaders/editors for things like this.  Putting out a whitepaper is no small thing if you're serious about your project....but if it's a scam or a cash-grab, this is the shit that happens.
1085  Economy / Reputation / Re: campaign manager post counts behaviors; is this accepted? on: January 21, 2023, 04:52:32 PM
but due to some reasons you decided to add additional  post to about 28 or even 29 post out of 25 required post.
Great! You should post because this is a forum, not because it's a job.
I agree with your assessment 100%.  There used to be a time when I'd regularly exceed the maximum number of posts allowed for whatever campaign I was in, and although I think I did mention that fact in the context of defending myself against the accusation of being a campaign spammer, I don't think I've ever cared if a manager rejected any of the posts I made.

Even in Chipmixer I usually have at least one or two posts each week that didn't make the cut for whatever reason, but I always assume the thread got moved to a section that Chipmixer doesn't pay for posts in.  In any case I know I'm fortunate so I don't complain about petty issues like that.

And I mean, come on.  There are so many signature campaign participants dropping the most generic, low-effort crap imaginable that it's a very good thing if the campaign manager is refusing to pay because of quality issues.  There are plenty of campaign and bounty managers who just don't give a shit and probably don't review anyone's post in detail, if at all.

1086  Other / Meta / Re: Some Newbie ~ Membar got nice rank through pumpkin contest on: January 21, 2023, 10:58:55 AM
We see some users who don't normally attract attention, thanks to these activities.
No kidding, I don't recognize any of the members on that list--but I was being a typical party-pooper and probably would have blown up the thread and all the pumpkins had I participated in it.

Nobody here is a mind reader that I know of, so there's no way to really know why those low-ranked, basically unknown members did whatever they had to do to earn merits and rank up.  I have a feeling that some of them probably played the system like their personal one-holed skin flute, but they didn't force other members to give them merits, so....

So TL;DR I see your point, OP and know where you're coming from--but since there's nothing to be done, this discussion was dead on arrival.
1087  Economy / Exchanges / Re: StakeCube-->toilet, whilst seemingly imitating SBF on: January 20, 2023, 09:27:35 AM
As for the platform, it is free money without any effort. The problem is that whenever they think that this free money is real money.
You talking about StakeCube there or something else--I can't tell.  StakeCube's business probably should have been profitable if it had a reasonable volume and low overhead, as the traders' orders, withdrawals, and deposits should have evened out in the end.

Why they felt the need to print magic money to pay their bills with, and why the fuck they thought that was a viable business plan just baffles me.  It's just hard for me to fathom the mind of the leader of a crypto exchange not seeing a move like that as a set-up for disaster.

I'm telling y'all, young entrepreneurs in crypto need a good education before they venture out to conquer the world.  SBF went to MIT, but his major was physics; no doubt his grasp of mathematics was an advantage, but he might not have acted like a complete fool had be been a business major.  Or perhaps he would have, but the StakeCube guy seems way too naive to have been in the position he was.
1088  Economy / Exchanges / StakeCube-->toilet, whilst seemingly imitating SBF on: January 20, 2023, 01:56:37 AM
I was just farting around on CMC, browsing through shitcoins that used to hold my attention and by looking closely at Reddcoin and their website (and in particular which exchanges RDD is traded on), I came to learn that StakeCube is apparently going bust.  What caught my attention on their website was this quote from Oleg, who's presumably running the show:

The blame is being laid on massive outflows of coins and the illiquidity of their proprietary shitcoin, SCC.  In that long and rambling screed, I don't see blame being placed on anything with lungs and a heartbeat.  Now I'm not too sure how many of you are familiar with StakeCube, as their niche was PoS coins, ones with masternodes and the like, and they were damn small.  But I'm baffled as to how, as Oleg says, SCC was--or even could be--used to pay for real-world goods like servers.  There ain't a damn shop online or with four walls and a door that accepts obscure shitcoins like that, so am I wrong in assuming that StakeCube created SCC out of thin air and then sold it for another coin (like btc, ltc, or one of the ones you can actually spend) in order to finance their operations?

Is this the reason why most exchanges nowadays have their own proprietary coins.  SBF was straight-up scamming, which was separate from the success or failure of FTT and would've been exposed eventually had FTT never existed (in a perfect world at least).  I'm not sure what Oleg and StakeCube were doing, but I don't think they were scammers.  I'm just baffled that so much was riding on this shitty altcoin, which Oleg had to know was pretty illiquid.  Blows my mind.

And finally, this quote just had me slapping my head:

Quote
So, everything was just a lie?

No, it was business as usual for everyone, everything announced in the newsletters (roadmap, v3 development, etc.) did happen, and it was never the plan to act like this – on the contrary – everyone in the team worked their ass off, no matter all the FUD coming from the community, in the hope that the crypto market would recover and we would be able to release updates and v3 in time to get back on track.
FUD from the community....uh, OK.  It seems very clear to me that whatever fear, uncertainty, or doubt existed was 100% justified.  That victim card that keeps getting passed around is looking frayed and tattered.

Curious to hear what you all think.
1089  Other / Meta / Re: *END* Post history review offer on: January 19, 2023, 07:21:07 PM
Btw when this thread was unlocked I thought it was closed few weeks back?
Yeah, I opened it back up to make that big bold and red announcement and figured I might as well keep it open so it'd stay visible (which helps me out).  So far the shitposts haven't been too bad, though it does seem like people either aren't reading things fully, at all, don't understand what they're reading, or don't give a shit about words in general.

You know, business as usual on bitcointalk.

I can lock it up if you or anyone else thinks it's becoming a spectacle, but I have a feeling that if and when I do that I'll just have to bump it again with another message that....fucking mongoloids....are just going to ignore.  But you know, I just keep rollin' that ball up the hill over and over.

Jolly, Jolly, JollyJollyGood!  I don't know jack bootywhack about boxing, 'cept that it's two people beating the shit out of each other (which I respect), but I'd like to enter this here thingee and I apologize for not responding to you earlier.  My poor brain has been like a suspension bridge that's just found itself resonating with some loud, horrible sound that eventually leads to a need for medical care and a new bridge.

Heh heh.

1091  Other / Meta / Re: [List]Gambling Board Spammers; Concerns, Solutions & Suggestions on: January 19, 2023, 12:27:15 PM
Exactly my thoughts, because some users just try to blend in and maybe meet up activities in the gambling board in sports threads they are not familiar with and its all over the gambling discussion board. Making a good is going to be easy for you when you have some ideas and knowledge about the sports.
I don't post in the gambling sections very often, and the only reading I do here is when I'm reviewing posts for people.  It's definitely obvious when someone knows what they're talking about with respect to gambling, and I can also usually pick up on whether a poster is passionate about what he's writing.

Posts here tend to be a lot longer than in other sections like Bitcoin Discussion.  Is that because the gambling campaigns have fairly high character quotas?
1092  Other / Meta / Re: *END* Post history review offer on: January 19, 2023, 12:20:58 PM

I used to be active on the WO thread, and I don't see you there. Maybe you don't like WO?
Eh, I've visited the thread (usually when I'm reviewing posts) but it just seems like a lot of masturbation, and there's definitely a unique community there that's seemingly apart from the rest of the forum and I never felt like making myself a part of it.  But hey, if you like it more power to you.  If we were all the same, the world would be fucked in every hole and stale as dollar store bagel.

I remember I saw your name change request thread and trying to get the attention of theymos. Congratulations on your name change. I am sorry, but your old name was also famous and cool. BTW, Sorry for the off-topic.
Grrrr.  I never heard words like that until after my name change got approved, and I'd no idea anyone even gave a millisecond of brainspace to my username before.  I'm definitely happy, but I can see it from your perspective as well.  I don't know about having a famous name, but given how many posts I've made and how long I've been active I don't doubt the ol' moniker was recognizable at least.

Thanks for the nice wordz.
1093  Other / Meta / Re: *END* Post history review offer on: January 19, 2023, 09:17:58 AM
Good day sir,I wrote to you on the month of September for a review of my posts, which you did and merited them, the next day,you wrote to me that my post are not quality enough for your merits,I have posted some quality post which I wanted to PM you and it writes that you have blocked me from sending message to you.
I probably was trying to be extremely generous when I gave you those merits, but the fact is that your posts are extremely generic and their quality is such that if I just came across them in a thread I was reading I would skip right over them.  And if I'm being really honest, you're not the kind of member I want to help rank up, because I know damn well why you're a member of the forum.

And you obviously don't read anything, else you would have seen what I wrote in big bold red letters, which MarjorieZimmermanGinger was kind enough to quote.  I mean, c'mon man.

I keep getting PMs like this from members who obviously heard about my offer but mysteriously haven't come across this thread.  Blows my mind.

Hi The Sceptical Chymist

I would like you to review my posts.

Thanks!

I blanked out the name, but I've never even given this member a single merit before (and after peeking at his posts, that's going to remain unchanged).

I haven't been getting many PMs from members who meet my criteria, so I'm going to ask that if I've done a review for you for at least two months (doesn't matter which months), send me a PM and I'll see what I can do.  I don't want to discourage people--just the ones who can't or don't read, are shitposters, idiots, or have too many chromosomes.

BTW, Is it The Pharmacist who has tried to change his username for a long time?
Yep!
1094  Economy / Reputation / Re: My ignore list and my feedbacks and is Poker Player acceptable? on: January 19, 2023, 07:16:36 AM
As far as insulting you goes, you'll just have to get thick skin and deal with that. Make all your topics self moderated and ignore him. Really not much that can be done there. Many wars go on like this in the forum.
^^This is excellent advice, Royse777, and I thought you did have a thicker skin than you're displaying so it's puzzling to me why he's getting under your skin so much and why you continue to engage and escalate things by slinging insults back at him.  Of course that's probably what I'd do myself, but I'd also get bored with it pretty quickly and then just let it go.  I think that's what you ought to do--and I'm intentionally not addressing any of Poker Player's or your points, just the drama between the two of you.

Currently bitcoingirl.club tries to chastise jollygood and time he can. Then there was ognasty and vod. And tons of other little flame wars.
Yeah, like cryptohunter and his alt account brigade.  That was an example where threads were created about him in which he wasn't welcome to post.  It doesn't sound fair, but he had a habit of derailing every single thread he posted in.  Since it's not against the rules to do that, you've obviously taken the path many would and have created your own thread to rebut the accusations against you and whatever else.  Again, I think you ought to just keep a stiff upper lip but I wouldn't like to be attacked and then banned from defending myself either.

This sounds like stale-coffee issues, anyway.  It doesn't look like you've sullied your reputation since the Crypto Critique thing, so...
1095  Economy / Reputation / Re: Ucy Merit Giveaway on: January 18, 2023, 11:22:55 AM
I believe you should create some rules to support this
I'm gonna go one further and say Ucy needs, needs to create rules for this, else this thread won't survive a week.  Even with clearly laid-out rules, I can almost guarantee he's going to be inundated with all sorts of BS requests and who knows what other nonsense that he shouldn't have to deal with because of his generosity.

I wish you luck, Ucy.  I'm going to start stepping up the merit-giving this week, but it's always good to have people like you offering services like this.  I just hope you know what you're in for, buddy.

People are buying cardigans with this kind of financing. They’re buying groceries and OLED TVs. During the summer of 2020, at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, they bought enough Peloton products to account for 30 percent of Affirm’s revenue.
So the gist of this is that poor people are living beyond their means, maybe even at record levels....and I just have to shrug my shoulders at this piece of non-news.  Buying on credit, layaway, and every permutation of that concept has been going on probably since the beginning of commerce.

Anyone see John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever from 1977?  I think the first line of dialog is him putting a disco shirt on layaway--in New York City, no less, which had to have been expensive (if it were real).  **Edit: Ah fuck it, that's what Youtube is for: it's at 3:50 in this clip**

So whaddya expect these days?  The Fed has pumped so much money into the system, and interest rates have been so low for so long that this outcome was inevitable.  The only thing that's going to prevent people from using their money responsibly is a major crisis like 2006 to whenever it ended, or worse.  I'm not hoping for that, but that's the reality I see.
1097  Economy / Economics / Re: Reserve Bank of India Governor Calls for an Outright Crypto Ban on: January 16, 2023, 02:38:34 AM
CBDCs are just fiat that claims to use blockchain technology, but they are fiat. They offer no value more than fiat.
Sure, I think we all know that here....but blockchain tech used in that manner will be a horror show for privacy, and I don't think the average person realizes (or cares) about it.  That should be frightening.

And haven't we heard this kind of talk from India before?  They're going to do whatever they like as far as their laws are concerned--same with every other country, right?  Hopefully that's all this is, talk.  They can't stop their citizens from using crypto, but making it illegal would certainly turn a lot of people away from it.

Ah well, hope for the best India.  Also: prepare for the worst, 'cause it might just be coming to your neighborhood sometime soon.  And then globally.  *trying to remain optimistic*
1098  Economy / Reputation / Re: Royse777 is a dishonest person and thus my negative feedback on: January 13, 2023, 07:29:20 PM
You are contacting other members with private messages and you telling them to avoid doing business with Royse... that is borderline insane, and your negative feedback for Royse is trust abuse in my oppinion.
I don't 100% agree with negative feedback for Royse777 (though he was definitely evasive about his role in the Casino Critique case), but I don't think Poker Player leaving a neg or starting up this thread constitutes abuse, either.  On the other hand, I think everyone who's already familiar with the issues he brought up has already made their judgement and justifying the negative feedback in this way is unnecessary.

These are kind of old issues at this point, no?
1099  Economy / Economics / Re: These Are the Top 10 Most Profitable Side Hustles in 2023 on: January 13, 2023, 02:35:19 AM
The job title is nursing aide.

The qualifications are similar to a lifeguard afaik. They only have to know CPR and other basics which do not have a serious learning curve to them.
Really?  I know there are different levels of nursing, e.g., APRN, RN, and CNA.  The last is certified nursing assistant, and I think it requires certification at least which means you'd have to get some kind of education.

Anyway, these don't seem like side hustles (except perhaps for driving) so much as regular jobs.  Are we calling a second job side hustles these days?  I don't think that term was meant to describe what's listed here.  You'd think Bloomberg would make the distinction with their listicles, but journalism these days has standards so low that an ant wouldn't be able to crawl underneath them.  Yeesh.
1100  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk on the phone? on: January 11, 2023, 11:28:32 PM
In between alterative: a tablet.
Sure, but I'm guessing OP just happens to want to access the forum on the most convenient device he has, which for most people nowadays is a smartphone.

And OP, this is a discussion topic that's sprung up dozens of times over the years at least, and I don't think Theymos is planning on creating a mobile-friendly version of the site.  Supposedly there's some new forum software in the works, but I could have written that 4 years ago....so I've got my doubts as to if the UI of bitcointalk is ever going to change (and it's fine with me if it doesn't).

It is indeed a pain in the ass to type out posts using a smartphone screen-keyboard.  I used to do it all the time, but my big fat thumbs made it a maddening experience.  I bought a mini-keyboard with a dongle that can plug into the phone, but it was still much slower than using a real keyboard with my PC.  I feel your pain, bro.
