1121  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Logan Paul and CoffeZilla thread discussion on: January 06, 2023, 09:35:01 AM
Ah, who the fuck cares about some beef between two Youtube personalities?  I'm not really familiar with Jake Paul, but I've seen plenty of Coffeezilla videos and I can't stand his smug demeanor when he's talking about various scams in which people lose tons of money.  Plus his videos are so overproduced for what they are, I find them aggravating to watch.  Multiple camera angles for someone just talking?  Really?

And he was so gleeful when he got to speak to SBF, as if he were solely responsible for his arrest.  Bleh.
1122  Economy / Economics / Re: If your passive income beats inflation rate, deposit might be a better choice. on: January 06, 2023, 03:47:45 AM
1) People so rich that passive income far exceeds their level of consumption, so they reinvest it, but never in a shitty bank deposit, unless for a short period of time (to buy when they see an opportunity in RE or shares of a company).
Agreed.  The scenario OP envisioned has the hypothetical person earning quite a bit of passive income ("quite a bit" is relative, of course), and if that person was smart they wouldn't just stick that money in an interest-bearing deposit account no matter what the interest rate is.  It's nearly always a better choice to invest money in something that's going to outpace both inflation and whatever a bank can pay you in a savings account or a CD.

I don't trust banks, so I'm a bit biased but keeping some cash in one in order to use when a sweet investment opportunity arises isn't a bad move at all.  In fact, it's smart at a time like this when stocks are trading at extremely high price-to-earnings ratios.  I doubt Warren Buffett would be buying many stocks right now; he'd be waiting until prices came down and then he'd use the cash he had on the sidelines to buy them at a bargain.
1123  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Stax (Ledger's latest hardware wallet) on: January 06, 2023, 03:28:27 AM
For me the old Nano S is still good enough and I agree that Ledger is again pursuing new directions - of course, they are supposed to bring more income - instead of fixing their actual (and old/known) problems that would keep their existing customers happy.
Yep, I agree.  For me there's no need for something really fancy when it comes to hardware wallets, and both the Nano S and X are easy to use and are small.  I don't know about anyone else, but bigger is not better with HW wallets IMO.

Should I add that it costs the same as a decent 2022 Android phone? I mean, come on...
I'd never pay $279 for a HW wallet.  Jesus, I think I've owned cars that cost less than that.
1124  Economy / Reputation / Re: Announce your rank up, merit or any achievements that makes you feel great! on: January 06, 2023, 03:22:48 AM
although am new to the forum but after checking most of the top members profile in the forum,  i saw the the good deed that you have been doing in the forum.
Hmm....you don't sound like you're a new member at all if you've been here less than a month and already know about merits, merit sources, and whatever good work you think I'm doing.  I'm guessing you're an alt account.  No offense, but it would take a brand new member more than a month to figure out how everything here operates.

Thank you friend for understanding my current situation and several problems, but now I am sick, I will try to be healthy and follow your advice from now on.
Not sure what your sickness is or how it affects your ability to make good posts (just look at yahoo62278; he's waiting for a heart transplant and is still making very substantive posts), but if you kick up your post quality by a factor of 10 maybe I'll help you out with merits.  But I'm not the only merit-giver on the forum, so you might get lucky.
1125  Other / Off-topic / Re: My story and where it is now..... on: January 05, 2023, 07:38:50 AM
It feels kinda selfish honestly. Someone has to die in order for me to live. That's the reality of certain organ transplants.
Oh, but it's not.  Whoever gives you their heart wanted to be an organ donor, and there's a waiting list so you're not exactly accepting a heart that should be going to someone else.  You're going to feel whatever you feel regardless of what I say, but I'd advise you to let go of any feelings of guilt regarding the transplant.  You don't need that stress on top of all the other stress you've got going on, right?

The other option was a balloon pump which is inserted through my groin area. I will help my heart pump better as well as return blood to my heart when exerting myself. This option also moves me to status 2 and puts me much higher on the list. Likely the 2-4 week wait on average. There are cons as well. I cannot move. I'll be flat on my back til they get me a heart. Gotta use the bathroom laying down, eat, everything. Flat the whole time. It's not a perfect option but it is an option.
Not going to give you any suggestions on your options, and it's hard to try to put myself in your shoes, but if it were me I think I would probably opt for those kinds of inconveniences if it got me to the operating table sooner.  But I'm not in your shoes and it sounds like your situation in the hospital just sucks overall.

Whatever you choose, we're all here rooting for ya.
1126  Other / Archival / Re: Crypto's 2022 contraction on: January 05, 2023, 05:01:23 AM
If we take a look at the entire year, it appears that it wasn't really FTX that started the whole contagion. It was probably Terra.
I'm not familiar with the Ronin attack (I'll have to look it up), but it looks like the total market value started to slide shortly after that happened, but it really started to sink after Terra--and I agree, FTX didn't kick off this very bearish market we find ourselves in.  Unfortunately, I think SBF's misdeeds are what's going to bring the regulators around (and I know they've already got the microscope focusing in on the whole space), and it's anyone's guess what the outcome is going to be as far as how hard they're going to come down with the law-making.

Nice infographic, Ratimov.  I missed this thread entirely for some reason.
1127  Economy / Economics / Re: Amazon secures $8B loan, anticipating market headwinds on: January 05, 2023, 02:55:18 AM
I'm not sure whether it's wise to take out a loan even if the inflation rate is higher than the interest rate, but what I'm fairly certain of is that Amazon didn't take out that gigantic loan because they were looking to profit from it.  From parts of the article it sounds like they're in a bit of trouble, especially if sales are declining and they have to lay off all those workers.

Corporations generally don't like to have a lot of debt on their balance sheets unless they're really putting that borrowed money to good use.  That doesn't seem like the case with Amazon, and man do they have a lot of debt!  It's almost hard to fathom a company paying nearly $1 billion in interest payments in nine months alone.

The average business makes 20% returns a year.
Really?  That sounds way too high--historically the stock market has increased about 10% on average per year (if I'm not mistaken), so if companies were averaging 20% profit annually you'd think we'd always be in a bull market.
1128  Economy / Economics / Re: [Article] Good job, internet: You bullied NFTs out of mainstream games on: January 05, 2023, 02:29:20 AM
The NFT hype died because almost all NFT projects are scams, not because the crypto markets are facing a crypto winter.
Are most of them scams?  I don't follow the NFT space at all, but I have a feeling that they just got too hot too quick and started selling for extremely irrational prices--just like anything that's in a bubble.  But I do suspect that the beating the crypto market took had something to do with whatever's become of them.

NFTs had a cool concept(in theory) which failed in reality, because no NFT owner can protect his NFT from being copied and used without his permission.
I don't think it's a cool concept at all.  In fact I think it's absolutely stupid.  Comic books and sports cards have been put out digitally, but there's not a thriving market for them.  I think that's because they're digital, not physical, and even if something is 'unique' because it's on a blockchain....so what?  Is it the art that's important or the perceived rarity?  Even with video games there can be extremely scarce items without having to resort to making them NFTs.  Maybe it's because I'm an old fart and not a youngster into the latest technology, but they just seem ridiculous.
1129  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Louisiana Begins Requiring Government ID to Access Online Porn on: January 04, 2023, 10:32:40 PM
Excretory acts aren't vulgar--I don't know what Louisiana legislators are thinking!  Perhaps they consider themselves above the common man who pisses and shits, but my god we're all mammals here.

I bet you some senator or congressman caught his kid in the midst of a porn addiction and felt like a bit of moral grandstanding.  Usually laws like this are made in response to an incident, whether it made headlines or not.  Just ask Kenneth Pinyon....oh wait, he got sexed to death by a fine-looking equine.  Well, you could ask the rest of his posse who are no doubt still into that sort of thing.

On a serious note, this law is ominous if it's a precedent for other states to follow.  KYC measures just for jerk-off material?  Give me a break, lawmakers.
1130  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos is living the high life; BitcoinTalk is inaccessible without JavaScript on: January 04, 2023, 10:04:32 PM
Ps, interesting choice of name though.
I'm 95% sure OP is just trolling, and his username kind of supports that theory.  These are the kinds of accusations that other trolls have made (and I think cryptohunter was one of them) over the years.

Does the district court in NY have some kind of special powers or something?  I'm not sure where bitcointalk is 'headquartered' or who'd have jurisdiction over any prosecution, but I don't think Theymos operates out of New York.  And I don't think NY courts typically give orders to federal agencies like the FBI--but I could be wrong.

Not that it matters anyway, since this mud being slung is so old that it's hardened into a brown cake and subsequently disintegrated into dust.  LE isn't interested in what internet forums are doing unless it has to do with posting illegal content.
1131  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: January 04, 2023, 07:25:11 PM
Like one of these candidates, The Skeptical Chymist - too difficult for me to write without copy and paste.
Yeah, I realize I made my username way more cumbersome for members to write out and *gah!* I apologize from the bottom of my charcoal-blackened heart.  Just refer to me as TSC or Chymist and I think everyone will know who you mean.  And if not, it's probably not important anyway.  Lol.

Big mistake or bad timing for making this change, especially if they win something Cheesy
Bah!  My pronouns are he and him, by the way, not they.  That's a joke, so laugh.  And I already made it clear that I don't want any votes and don't want to win anything, so if the name change messes everything up, it's no skin off my back.
1132  Economy / Reputation / Re: Announce your rank up, merit or any achievements that makes you feel great! on: January 04, 2023, 07:15:29 PM
<snip>
I just took a look at your post history, as I wanted to help you out, but I realized I'd already done a review for you (usernames escape my mind quite easily).  Lately you've been posting large images with very little writing, and before you took an extended break from the forum you were making posts of uniform length--that's an indication that you were trying to meet a character count quota for a campaign or bounty, and the content in those posts was sub-par.

You might well get merits from other members, but my advice to you is to put far more thought and effort into your posts.  Since your grasp of English clearly isn't that great, that's the only thing that's going to compensate for all the grammar and other language issues you've got going on.

Didn't mean to piss on your parade, just trying to give you some solid advice.
1133  Economy / Economics / Re: Saving one third what you earn monthly is not that hard, isn't it ? on: January 04, 2023, 07:00:15 PM
There have been times in my life where I was able and did save at least a third of what I made, but the answer to the question as to whether anyone is able to do that is that it depends on how much you're making and what your standard of living is (and also how expensive things are in your area).

Damn, how I wish I was in the position to take 1/3 of my income and invest it in either crypto or the stock market.  I'd be back to the ballin' stage--I wouldn't be a bitcoin whale by any means, but I'd at least have a decent stash.

And oh how I regret that I didn't buy and save bitcoin when it was just $200.  Even $1000.  Life is so hard when you can't see into the future, ya know?

And hey, congrats on your new couch, GazetaBitcoin!  Much nicer than my first, which was taken from the side of a road.  Not kidding.  Ugly green faux leather thing with rips in it.  But it served its purpose and RIP old couch, wherever you are.
1135  Economy / Economics / Re: [Article] Good job, internet: You bullied NFTs out of mainstream games on: January 04, 2023, 03:58:07 AM
The quote below is the one that stuck out to me as seeing right through the argument that criticism from people on the internet won't do a damn thing to sway what game makers do (at least the big ones) if it's obvious there's a ton of money to be made.  Maybe integrating NFTs into games as skins wasn't as clear cut as microtransactions, which appeal to anyone with an inclination to gamble.

Quote
The internet ridiculed microtransactions (see: Horse Armor) and that didn't do jack shit to stop them because they still made money.

And is anyone surprised that something hot is going to be co-opted by big corporations?  If you are, you haven't yet learned how the world works.  Develop a sense of cynicism now before you regret it.
1136  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion - to Founders and Admins, Create a ChildBoard "Games in Blockchain" on: January 03, 2023, 11:57:54 PM
Theymos rarely new boards, except when he adds them for new languages when there's enough demand.  As for child boards and anything dealing with non-bitcoin subjects, I suspect he's not eager to add any more than already exist.

I can't say I know much about blockchain games or what their future prospects are, but even if they were scorching hot right now, it'd still be way too early to add a subsection.  Same thing with NFTs.  Can you imagine if Theymos had added an ICO child board back in 2018?  ICOs were a popular fad, but that's all they turned out to be, and it took quite a bit of time to determine that.  In hindsight, currently irrational people might come to realize that there's nothing special or collectible about digital art that just happens to be linked to a blockchain.  See my point?

There have been many, many proposals for new sections over the years and I'm not sure if I've ever seen one acted on by Theymos.  That's what you're up against, OP.
1137  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Worldcoin a crypto-currency for the masses or your digital ID? on: January 03, 2023, 11:37:29 PM
I'm pretty sure this is the coin I read about a month or so ago in a print magazine from MIT that was dedicated to crypto-related stuff and that contained some pretty blatant errors.  What I remember about it was that the team behind the coin was paying people in the coin to give up their biometric data in order to test it out.  The concept sounded horrifying to me and still does.

Critics of bitcoin still say that it's a solution in search of a problem, and though it initially was meant to be a widely adopted currency it turned out to be a store of value and a speculative instrument.  All of these other altcoins promise so many different things and so many of them fail that by sheer statistics I'd wager that worldcoin is not going to get off the ground.  Even if it does survive for a while, I seriously doubt it'll achieve what the devs think it will.

So yeah, looks like just another shitcoin to me.
1138  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos is living the high life; BitcoinTalk is inaccessible without JavaScript on: January 03, 2023, 09:13:24 PM
I'm very angry that this happens because now as LoyceV claims, "there is no money".
By the way, this is also a lie.
Huh, I just read where LoyceV said there's no money coming in.  All donations aside, I thought this site generated a decent amount of money through advertising and/or other means related to web traffic.  I think I recall Theymos telling the community there wasn't a need for any more donations (or maybe somebody else said it).

But even assuming what LoyceV said is a lie, it isn't a lie from Theymos, who's the target of your ire here.  So that's why I'm questioning your claim to any concerns about the use of what funds the forum has; you had no part in the making of that money, so the way I see it there's no justification for you complaining about that part of your rant.

You've probably got all the answers you're going to get, by the way.  This isn't the kind of thread Theymos is going to come down off the mountain to respond to.
1139  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos is living the high life; BitcoinTalk is inaccessible without JavaScript on: January 03, 2023, 03:50:48 PM
I'm okay with theymos as our benevolent dictator. Calling him a criminal requires evidence.
Word to the bird, LoyceV.  Not being a computer science major (like many here seem to be), I don't know much about the security/privacy issues involved with using javascript and cloudfare so I'm not too concerned with any of that.  Even if I did I still would have to accept that that's how bitcointalk is structured, and what Theymos or anyone else does with revenue generated from the site isn't my business.

I mean seriously OP, did you donate to the forum?  If not, why in the world would you care about the forum's funds?
1140  Other / Meta / Re: *END* Post history review offer on: January 03, 2023, 03:17:01 PM
Is there a chance for members that PMed in the month of November to get a post reviewed after been skipped or does that simply tells the member he didn’t meets the new requirements for review.
I don't know if there's a language barrier issue going on with this or what, but I thought I made it crystal clear what my plans are.

As to your question, if you've only started PMing me in November, then you are not eligible for a review until further notice.  You have to have been requesting reviews every month since September.  In case you missed it, I said it the last time here:

That's not how I'm saying this works.  If a member has requested reviews from me in September, October, and November then I will continue to accept reminders on a monthly basis.

And this is that last PM I mentioned, which had me slapping my head:

Quote
Gratitude sir 🙏🙌 for letting me slide in your DM, happy new year.

Please accept my early apology, sir. Pardon my ignorance for still requesting a review after reading your last topic.

I discovered your thread in November 2022, but then my account had just a few posts. It is so unlucky for me that you are not accepting applications anymore. But can I still request a review or advice even if merit won't be coming soon? I will gladly appreciate any advice you have to give me concerning my posting style. Your advice is profitable to direct too. Thank

"Pardon my ignorance for still requesting a review".  Amazing.  Guys, I'm not kidding.  I might be generous with merits and some of you might think I'm a swell guy, but I don't suffer fools gladly.  And if you take a look at some of my posts from 2017 and earlier, you'll see that I'm actually a complete bastard.  I've mellowed out at bit, but it doesn't take much to awaken the beast if you know what I mean.
