2801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The fall of Bitcoin nodes. Why nobody talks about it ? on: October 27, 2014, 07:29:49 AM
Both of those are insufficient to run a full node. The 30GB one will be forced to shutdown in a month or two, since the current blockchain is nearly 30GB already.
Sorry, I was looking for the cheapest and I didn't look at the HDD.
I personally use this one :

It is damn super fast and mining Monero with it greatly reduce the bill.
$40 a month is a lot to spend on a full node. There are much cheaper options out there (some as low as $15 per year). As of now, you really do not need a very high performance computer in order to run a full node so there is no real reason to get such a high performance VPS

The problem are the 30GB required and more to come. If you have a 40GB HDD for $15 per year, please share it because we never heard about it.
Like I said, I use my VPS to mine Monero. For a long time I was making a profit from it, now it helps me reduce the bill.

Pour ceux comme moi qui ne connaissaient pas, un fan a fait un site pour Monero qui est "plus esthétique" que le site officiel.

https://monerobase.com/
Avec le twitter qui va avec :
https://twitter.com/monerobase

Pour rappel, un MMORPG (style retro RPG) utilisant le Monero comme monnaie a commencé :
Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City)
Avec le Wiki qui va avec :
Crypto Kingdom Wiki
Stats des personnages :
CK Character & Resource Database
(je suis niveau 3 woohoo!)

I don't think I've mentioned it here yet, but I've setup a small website devoted to Monero news, reviews, etc.
https://monerobase.com
And more recently, I'm mirroring the posts to Twitter at https://twitter.com/monerobase
Thanks!
Cool stuff! I just came across it. Didn't know this existed at all!

Me neither. Good stuff.

Some nostalgia that may be interesting.
Monero was first traded on bitcointalk here.
I launched cryptonote.exchange in May and have made available all trades, raw data as csv format here
So what was the lowest price monero ever traded for on my exchange? I have compiled this list of the 500 lowest priced trades that occurred, sorted by lowest first.
500 trades:
(...)
Total moneros traded at 0.001 or below was 75070, total traded at 0.002 or below was 228113

This exchange was awesome. The price was much lower at that time.

About the movie, we can start very simply by thinking about few questions around Monero :
 - How did you discover Monero ?
 - What interested you at first ?
 - Why are you supporting it ?
 - What is your contribution on the project ?
 - How do you imagine Monero in 3 years ?
You can add or remove questions. The point is to have something interesting to say on every point.
Having different answers will show the variety of people around the project but also how united people are.
Being that you are French I think you should produce the movie.

I will not do it alone. Everyone will participate and I'll find someone competent for the editing.

So, what can you do now?

- Get to know other players, eg. in the IRC channel (this happens more easily later in the trollboxes though);

There is now an IRC chan opened to anyone: ##crypto-kingdom.

About IRC, don't forget the "##" if you want to connect.
I didn't find the channel at first.

Please allow 2 votes.

I see at least 2 challengers : Zerocash and Monero.

Is there enough content to fill a movie story on Monero?
So far not enough. I do not want to XMR to be dramatic.
We could film miners, devs, bitcoin castle and crypto kingdom, wealthy bitcoiners who are involved with monero, the monero team, first monero pizza footage.. anything else? not much of a story yet. crypto kingdom might make a nice story though and risto's 'castle'.

Yes that could be enough for a movie.

I expect this to take at least 10-12 months from the start.

So we would have the GUI Wallet (and more) long before the movie is finished.

Hey what if we make a Monero movie like "The rise and rise of Bitcoin" ?

Something simple like the devs working and explaining what they are doing with human understandable sentences and Monero supporters explaining their vision and ideas and also some miners building crazy big rigs.
Sounds cool, ambitious. I like it. It'll give Monero a wider market, not just techies. I'm up for it. Someone mentioned earlier in this thread how Supercoin failed due to lack of marketing and stuff even though it had good technology. Don't want the same thing to happen to Monero.

That's a great idea.

We would not need to travel around the world. Every participant could shoot with his own webcam (or better if he has) and upload it on a common server where every participant could look, comment and vote for the videos to keep or give advices to re-shoot.

Clique petit...

Very nice work.
I can see that Risto have a lot of experience in making games (game design, rules, story, communication, ...).
This could get really big.

Yes that's right if you compare to now but in Feudalism, people were no more "slaves" like they were during the Roman Empire.
It was still very hard but they had the right to own land and trade which make a big difference.
The definition of feudalism is a bit muddy, (perfect for politicians) and the traditions varied over time and place (also perfect for politicians, you can claim anything), but generally feudalism is described  as farmers not owning the land, the lord did and the vassals rented it in exchange for resources and military duties.

You're right, it is hard to define and you're probably the only one here that know a bit about feudalism.
But I found it really interesting, especially the high decentralization and the absence of state (as we have nowadays).
People are total ignorant when they claim that the social organization did not change in the last 3000 years.
But hey, for most Americans, History start 400 years ago or more likely 50 years ago...
