2821  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SolidCoin v2.0 features new hashing algorithm, faster on CPUs on: September 19, 2011, 09:06:14 PM
This is such a good idea.  Hope this saves electricity.  It is a shame we mine bitcoin to enrich coal companies and public sector unions.  Anything to lower the cost of electricity use is a mandatory switch.

Please explain how mining bitcoin enriches public sector unions.
2822  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Largest Bitcoin Scam of Them All? on: September 19, 2011, 08:57:06 PM
It seems the root of the complaint here is that the GLBSE is not subject to a regulatory authority, like the SEC. So, does the OP propose that GLBSE require companies to submit filing requests and million dollar fees to register with the SEC, to establish their own international regulatory agency, or does the OP propose establishing an independent ratings agency like Moody's or Standard & Poor?
Or does the OP propose to whine and bitch and waste everyone's time?

I (not the OP) would recommend that GLBSE do something to establish the identity of the company.  They could get some kind of ID, do some kind of snail mail exchange or require an SSL cert that required identity checking (like a godaddy premium $99 cert).  This would not be a huge burden as they have less then 20 companies.  This would not be impossible to scam, but would raise the bar a good deal.  If you can not find $99 of your own money for your idea, it probably is not going to give investors any returns.  You have no skin in the game at all and nobody really knows who you are.
2823  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin propaganda extreme QR-Code on: September 19, 2011, 08:51:39 PM
I am working on a new code with some readability and style improvements. Will release a version linking to weusecoins.com

Would you prefer a CC-BY-SA license? With a small and light 90° rotated URL on the right side?

I would not be able to put any attribution on a sticker, it would not fit, or would be to small to read.  I do give attribution on my store to the creator

"Design by marcusaurelius on the bitcointalk.org forum. " even though none is required by it being put in the public domain.

I would be interested in printing some stuff that links to weusecoins.com
2824  Economy / Economics / Re: How much time USA ppl can tank 10%-12% inflation ? on: September 19, 2011, 01:31:07 AM
so put your bets Smiley

red line = faked stats Smiley

Did you mean to say: " How much time USA people can TAKE 10%-12% inflation ?"

I would say a long time, mostly because they will not be given a choice.  The truth appears to be between those two lines.  It certainly is more then just a few % that the gov says it is.  But other things have really dropped in price here.  In the 80's a nice casual shirt was $30, now in cheaper dollars $15 is not hard to come by.  Eating out is cheaper.  Electronics are way down.  Cars, gas, healthcare and services are way up.

2825  Economy / Speculation / Re: Using Escrows for Speculation on: September 19, 2011, 01:22:59 AM
I'm looking for a non-bitcoin site.

A non bitcoin site to allow you to place a bet on bitcoins future?  That does not seem to be too likely.
2826  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Renting hashes on: September 18, 2011, 10:50:54 PM
here's an address 18ReRQYsrgkpL1KdeuZ7pvQ2BoGuKimWLx please tell me what goods were transfered for the coins sent to it from where and to where, you have 1 week, go

He (or me) could only do that If we had been logging our traffic. Now its too late, I cant match that with an IP anymore. That doesnt mean you are anonymos. Give me a time in UTC before you do a purchase, with 24 hr advance warning so I can start logging,   and lets see if its as anonymous as you think.

Yes.  And give me the address and time of a street based drug sale in advance and that is no longer anonymous as well.

If you use bitcoin properly, it can be quite anonymous.

2827  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am selling some bitcoins on eBay and accepting PayPal... on: September 18, 2011, 06:15:32 PM
I think you should be safe from ebays virtual currency (Bitcoin) policy, since you are supplying a physical coin that is properly listed.

If any charge-backs are attempted and because you are tracking the delivery of the physical token... I think you're going to be a-ok.

I personally would also sell them with no returns flag turned on, but your a nice guy it seems and have it set to allow returns Wink

These look so cool I think I will be buying some soon.

Sooner, or later, you will be burned selling virtual currency on ebay.  If the amounts are smaller, there is less incentive to do fraud.  As the value of the virtual part of the sale rises, so will fraud.
2828  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: new site, stuffexists.com - Bitcoin Portal on: September 18, 2011, 12:45:42 AM
Can you add me too?  http://cryptoanarchy.com/store for Bitcoin shirts, stickers and more.

2829  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin propaganda extreme QR-Code on: September 17, 2011, 08:53:13 PM
I like this interpretation, now what if I sell a $20 t-shirt with the QR code, and a blank shirt of the same price, but I don't advertise or list this theoretical $20 shirt without the QR code on my site, but agree to sell the blank shirt at the same price if someone requested it?

Creative Commons is a child of the attribution economy spearheaded amongst others by the Open Source community. (Some of Lessig's better known books are a good read on that subject). Attribution and OSS licenses are closely related to intention, as can be seen when someone slips up on an Open Source license violation. If it wasn't by intention, the community is fine with it. If it was intentionally, hell breaks loose.

So. If your intention is to just sell phelix' QR-code on an otherwise blank t-shirt, and that is your business idea, my opinion would be that you would be in violation of the CC license.

If your business is in selling something else and the QR-code is just added to advertise or to explain Bitcoin, I'd consider that to be ok.

(IANAL, but they do ask me for CC and OSS license explanations)

That is the way I felt, so I used the work made by marcusaurelius for all of my products.  I gave away a few hundred of them at the BitCoin NYC conference as well as sold a good number and they got out there!

The NC attribution on the OP's work precluded me from selling it at any price unless it was very clear that I made zero profit on it.
2830  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Unknown National Chain Restaurant to Accept Bitcoin This Weekend on: September 17, 2011, 08:45:17 PM
Makes me thing you could build a decent POS terminal out of a relativly cheap tablet though

Square already does that, quite successfully.

As in hundred dollar android tablet in an enclosure, not a 500+ dollar ipad with squares dongle(although said dongle would work on any tablet to my knowledge nothing special about a rfid sensor outputting via the mic in on a device)

I have not seen a $100 tablet that was any good. They are slow, have substandard touch screens to the point of unworkability, as well as old versions of Android.  I have tried a few.  Is there anything out there for $100 that is really usable on a long term basis?

I have seen $300 tablets that are just fine though.
2831  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin merchants - how much business do you have? on: September 16, 2011, 11:23:12 PM
Are there any merchants (online or physical) that want to share how many bitcoin payments they receive on average? Companies such as BitcoinNotify/Bit-Pay may also share some numbers if they want.
Isn't that the million dollar question these days?

Maybe. Does anyone know the answer? I have never seen any volume numbers. Not even from Meze Grill.

Before mybitcoin.com failed we were doing about $500 a month.  Now after we are doing almost nothing.  I do notice that I have had less business when the exchange rate is low.

Thanks for the input. I didn't know your store. Here is another QR-Code that you might want to put into a t-shirt Wink

Thanks!  I saw yours first, but also saw the non-commercial restriction on it, so I did not use it.  It is impressive how much a QR can be altered and still work!

I have 3 moto Q (original I think) phones.  Two of them work though batteries are gone, one does not boot.  I have one or two broken moto razr's as well.

I would buy some of them some of the time, but not for $20!  everyone seems to want that.  Try more like $5

The Bit-pay.com guys are working on one. Send them a message.

I am using the bit-pay system with open-cart and it works great!

2837  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt Gox Break In Part 2 on: September 13, 2011, 12:57:19 PM
-a third party is engaging in a cyberwar against bitcoin using man in the middle attacks.

After a lengthy conversation with MagicTux, unless it does turn up that mtgox has been hacked, neither of us can figure out what happened. Its obviously not me and I didn't fall for a phishing expedition, and Im pretty sure its not on his end. His description of security on the new post-hack mtgox is pretty decent. Its not perfect, but he has gone to great lengths to prevent a repeat.

Even if they dumped the password database, the passwords are sufficiently salted and hashed that it is extremely unlikely they grabbed my password first.

I also do not think it is likely the recent DigiNotar or Globalsign break ins have produced SSL certs to attack mtgox with (which WOULD explain this) because mtgox uses EV certs and as far as I know none of the fake certs were for EV, but DigiNotar and Globalsign both DO issue EV certs. Although I am not ruling this out.

DigiNotar knew about the break in for months, and I obviously have logged in since then.

Tux has replaced the missing BTC.

Asking once again. Do you use a Yubikey on Mt.Gox?

As Ive said in the past, I do not believe that they improve security.

They do not prevent every kind of attack but they stop entire categories of attacks.  You are wrong on this one and should think about it a bit more.

My funds are still at mtgox.com

I have a yubi.
