THIS!

We need a guy who is familiar with Jetty.
I am in talks with one right now..

It seems, that you and BCNext need to find a way to modify Jetty core, or something, to make Hallmark-based (at least) protection.   To buy expensive VPSs, wich would be the first target  - it is not a is not an option ..  it is centralization ...

Jetty has http://wiki.eclipse.org/Jetty/Reference/DoSFilter... But I prefer to leave this work for those who know Jetty much better than me.

may be something wrong with newest versions (0.4.1e and 0.4.2) ?

my 0.4.0 VPS with well-known (bootstrap) IP can work ~2 hour before "java.lang.NullPointerException", whereas my anorher VPS 0.4.2 with unknown (for public) IP hardly survive 30 min.

Nothing special AFAIK, maybe BCNext added something, I don't review all the changes...
  - may be this?  no?

Added support for CORS

Ddos is incoming requests, push and pull r for outcoming ones. Also it targets Jetty core, not Nxt servlet.

ALL THESE SHOULD BE INVISIBLE FOR THE AVERAGE USER!!

Why?
Because it is NOT their business to solve these issues!

CfB the solution is not to ask from stakeholders (big or small) not only to pay for something (VPS etc) but to actually learn to be IT and do stuff.

Nor it is a permanent solution to outsource it to someone as laowai for example - these are pathces.

We need more radical solution.

Possible steps:

1)Bounty to laowai to add asap VPSs
2)A post @wiki,forums etc about the steps needed from a user in order to pass the process to laowai
3)Bounty for developing a NON centralized permanent solution to this issue so we don't need steps 1-2.

sorry CfB, how can the network avoid these type of attacks in the future?

1. More nodes (some guys r working on that)
2. DoS protection (ask ur hoster)
3. Hallmark protection (not activated yet)
4. Switch to binary protocol (saves 10x bandwidth, but increases entry barrier for new programmers)
ALL THESE SHOULD BE INVISIBLE FOR THE AVERAGE USER!!

laowai80 can I send to you the VPS info I have paid and you manage it?
Also I can send you some funding to open more of them and get a tip too.

I think you have to be the proxy in this, can you do it?

I am sure me and some other stakeholders will contribute to a good tip for you doing so!
Bump!

Also, do these VPS nodes NEED to be linked with my wallet?

I'd prefer not to except if CfB assures me there is NO risk for my funds!

Then I will try to do it on my own (maybe pay a good tip to the guy who will help me).

yeah I pm'ed you.
no need to be linked to your wallet, you can set a hallmark on them or not, but CfB says hallmarking helps network better.

You can set a hallmark in https://localhost:7875/admin.html

Another dummy question:

Each time we have an updated version what actions should I do on my side? Update my local client as usual?

I saw your PM but just to answer a part of my questions:

They r not forced to mark their nodes. Nodes without hallmark still help a lot.

Good.

I will provide a public NXT node service. I'll set up your nodes (hallmarked or not) and upgrade them as new versions are released and do full maintenance, your node will be on a dedicated IP and I'll take payment in NXT/BTC/LTC (equivalent of $10/month). Monthly contract. PM me or use the contact form on the website in my profile if interested. Help protect the network by running a dedicated node and get rid of the upgrade hassle.

This guy is a serious businessman - http://localhost:7874/nxt?requestType=listAccountAliases&account=8777528113398257759

This is his site - http://www.nxto.net/

Edit: He uses russian aliases written with latin letters.
Wow a new exchange? Do you have any more info CfB?

All this registering is actually tiresome when there is so much land to plough.
After dust settles we all have to figure out what to do with those cool names Smiley

That is why I never bothered with all the various porn keywords. Too much work to setup all those sites per sex interest!   Cheesy

Personally... the same way I will sit on my NXT until we exit the atmosphere, the same way I will await the day that perhaps someone will also find value in my aliases.  I will definitely think of some appropriate URIs until then though.

Wish I could help with the development side too... but to late to learn how to code.   Angry
