Have to give credit to BCCI, they didn't give up despite all odds, which were against them. Fair to say as long as money and their interests are concern they don't back down easily.

They went ahead with the tournament, although 90% of the people were against the idea. If you look at the media coverage, a lot of the politicians and activists were arguing that when people are dying from COVID 19, such tournaments should not be held. I was not surprised, since India is very famous for "activism", which has resulted in many important infrastructure projects getting delayed by two or three decades. Perhaps that is also one of the reasons why they decided to host the league outside India. It takes a lot of courage to go against their opinion and schedule the tournament.
2902  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Argentina raises Gambling tax on: November 24, 2020, 04:49:47 PM
If they increase the taxes too much, then it will push the gambling industry underground in to the hands of criminal gangs. In the end the government will face a reduction in tax revenue, which is exactly opposite of what they are expecting. To be frank, gambling is not one of the sectors where they can increase the tax rates heavily. The margins are very narrow and even a 1% increase can have serious impact on the volumes. They need to reverse this decision.
2903  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoin make someone the richest in the world? on: November 24, 2020, 11:05:02 AM
As per Forbes, Jeff Bezos is the richest person in the world, with a wealth measured at more than $180 billion. Now the question is, can someone own Bitcoin worth that much amount. Since the Bitcoin market cap is $350 billion , theoretically that is possible. However I am not sure that there is enough liquidity in the market to maintain the prices even after selling all or a part of these coins.
2904  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: btc transaction fee is way too much and btc transactions are way too slow on: November 24, 2020, 05:25:01 AM
BTC has the benefit over fiat of having unreversible and uncensorable transactions, but if you're looking for less fees you could try BCH or XRP.

XRP? Seriously? Who is even using that shitcoin? It is not even decentralized and therefore it can't be used for "undetectable" and "irreversible" transactions. If you are bothered about the high transaction fee of Bitcoin, then there are tons of other coins that can be considered. But make sure that they have good liquidity. I would prefer coins such as BCH, LTC, ETH and ADA.
2905  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Pakistan has started work on legalizing bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on: November 24, 2020, 04:54:40 AM
The problem in India is that cryptocurrency is in the "grey zone", i.e not completely legal. Earlier there was a banking ban on Bitcoin. Users were prohibited from using their bank account to trade in cryptocurrencies. But even then, there was no ban on holding or transacting cryptocurrency. However, a few local exchanges were forced to shut down as a result of this banking ban. The supreme court of India announced a few months ago, that the ban has no legal basis. But there are other legal complications.

From what I heard, the equipment and the coins were seized from the Bitcoin ATM provider, because he didn't had the necessary license to operate the ATM. But the operator claims that he applied a number of times for the license, but everytime the authorities turned down his request saying that they don't provide such a license.
Sometime back when I joined this community I was feeling India could be really big stake holder in this as they are in software industry but sadly after reading some good number of issues and other problems feeling sad for them because they can go on top with this all they already have some good system and other things just need some legislation and this is going to help them in good way for good exchanges and other stuff which can bring billions of USD in investment and they can have some good upper hand but sadly red carpet is still big problem.

I am a frequent traveler to India and I have some business interests there (not crypto-related). The biggest issue is the red-tape and bureaucracy. The central government is trying to attract the investors from other countries, but they are unable to improve the system. Dealing with the Indian bureaucrats is tiring, frustrating and unrewarding. Remove the red tape, and India will be among the top-3 economies in the world.
2906  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: November 23, 2020, 02:45:01 PM
From WTC perspective, if India manage to win 1 test and 1 draw (with 2 lose) then 2-1 series in favor of Australia doesn't look so bad. Ishant Sharma is not fit so they need to find 3rd bowler who can bowl along with Bumrah-Shami. In batting department i have faith in Pujara,Vihari and Mayank or in some extent Pant too. He bats well in the test, let's see if he gets to play or not.

IMO, India and Australia are the two teams having the highest probability to finish as the top 2 sides during the WTC. Which one of them will outperform the other will depend upon the series between them. If India loses the Australia series (abroad) by 1-2, then they need to win the series against Australia at home by a better margin. Any other team (including England) finishing within the top two position looks quite remote now.
2907  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 💰 Summer Tokyo 2020 💰 Discussion and bet thread 💰 Summer Game 💰 Postponed 21 on: November 23, 2020, 02:37:31 PM
We are 8 months into the pandemic and there is no much change as some of the countries are facing the second wave of virus attack and the possibility of getting a vaccine by the time of the Olympics might be a real possibility but if that is not the case what happens, will they extend the Olympics further because it is not fair for Japan as they have spent billions and how they will compensate that.

You are still noticing any improvement? Vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer have completed their Phase 3 trials with up to 95% efficiency. Now it is only a question of mass production. Even the Sputnik V vaccine of Russia have shown 92% efficiency during the Phase III trials. The only bad news is from the vaccine being produced by AstraZeneca/Oxford, which has shown less than 70% efficiency.
2908  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another billionaire just invested in bitcoin on: November 19, 2020, 06:36:27 AM
Now it is looking very similar to what we had during the 4th quarter of 2017. I just hope that this time the hype will last unlike what happened back then. Back in 2017, after the ATH level was achieved, it was a steep fall from $20,000 to $3,000 per coin. Let's not forget the fact that most of the recent spike can be attributed to a single trigger - the acceptance by PayPal. If there is some bad news related to the PayPal adoption, then the prices will go back to the previous level in a matter of few days.
2909  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Pakistan has started work on legalizing bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on: November 19, 2020, 05:50:34 AM
[..] Recently someone who tried to install a Bitcoin ATM in India was arrested and his laptops and mobile phones, along with the equipment was confiscated. [..]
Honestly, we have also faced a lot of difficulties. But I wonder why such an attitude despite being crypto-legal in India? Isn't the government happy with the legal status of cryptocurrency?

2910  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPals Bitcoin is a scam on: November 19, 2020, 05:40:36 AM
Bitcoin's demand for PayPal crypto has doubled the quantity of capital within the cryptocurrency market is ten times above that recorded within the gold sector. Specialized media have interpreted this as a sign of Bitcoin's growth potential, although the bank's CEO, Jamie Dimon described the virtual currency as a scandalous hit two years ago but now most are investing. Virtual currencies can form a paradise within the context of declining reliance on Fiat currencies.

LOL... are you saying that cryptocurrency market capitalization is 10 times above that of gold market cap? That is factually wrong. The gold market cap, as per the current price stands at $11-$12 trillion. According to the coinmarketcap lisitng, the market capitalization for all the cryptocurrencies stand at less than $500 billion, and for Bitcoin the figure is reported at $330 billion.
2911  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: November 19, 2020, 05:30:16 AM
Coronavirus infections are on the rise in many Asian countries (Bangladesh, Pakisthan, India, Afghansthan). Many expert say that its infection will increase further in the winter. If the coronavirus infection increases like this, we will see another long break in cricket.

Even in Australia the number of cases are rising. The same is true for England and India as well. So setting up bio-secure bubbles and organizing various large tournaments is going to be very difficult. It will be interesting to see how the BBL gets going, as it involves a total of 8 different teams. Also we have the T20 World Cup in around 12 months from now.
2912  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-11-18]Mexico’s 2nd Richest Man Reveals 10% of His Liquid Assets Are in BTC on: November 19, 2020, 05:01:22 AM
The emphasis should be on the term "liquid". For billionaires, liquid assets normally represent less than 1% of their total wealth. The remainder is mostly in immovable or other non-liquid assets such as real estate, bullion and mutual funds. So even if we take the upper range, that would mean that only around 0.1% of his portfolio is made up of Bitcoin. All that said, the publicity will be beneficial for BTC.
2913  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: November 19, 2020, 04:40:22 AM
Yeah, its different setup but nowadays Australian pitches also turning into batting paradise. Although still very different from the sub-continent pitches for obvious reasons such as there is no bounce what-so-ever in subcontinent ground.

It is not surprising. The TV broadcasters want the matches to stretch for at least 4 days, else they would face losses. If they prepare a pitch that favors the pacers by a lot, then there is a chance that the match will get finished within 2-3 days. The broadcaster will be left with advertisements which couldn't be telecast and may have to reimburse the fees. So for the cricket board, nowadays it is always preferable to go for flat tracks.
2914  Other / Politics & Society / Re: No Voter Fraud: International Monitors Praise US Election on: November 19, 2020, 04:29:33 AM
Your post caught my eye, so I checked.

1,129,308 Registered Voters
749,317 Total Ballots

66.35% Turnout

https://results.philadelphiavotes.com/VoterTurnoutDetails.aspx?

Hmm.. I double-checked with Decisiondeskhq and looks like you are right. The turnout in Philadelphia was lower, when compared to the rest of Pennsylvania. Right now Biden is leading there with more than 83,000 votes and I don't think that any lawsuit or recount may change that result. But it will be worth the effort to recount and audit the postal ballots. The pattern doesn't match with what we had in the previous elections.
2915  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: US Presidential Election 2020 and its impact on gambling on: November 19, 2020, 04:18:18 AM
According to everything I think that now it's clear that Budem has won. Even some judicial processes that Trump has announced can't give him the chance to change this. Although he will be president until January I don't see reason why bookies wouldn't pay the gamblers who bet on Biden.

As long as the current president doesn't concede the elections, they have a justification here. The terms and conditions for many of these online gambling sites are very vague. I won't be surprised if a small fraction of them refuse to process the winnings. The vast majority would not go that route, because for them maintaining their brand reputation is very important.

Every sporting event is a business opportunity and the same is true for Olympics as well. The infrastructure that is being built for the games would benefit the resident population for many decades and the hosting city and the surrounding regions will get a big boost as far as tourism is concerned.
usually that is the concept, spending billions will the community later after the Olympics but we have places like Athens and Sochi where it was abandoned completely after the event and that is the case with the recent Brazil Olympics as well.

I don't think that facilities were abandoned. For example, in Sochi they constructed highways connecting the main city to various skiing centers and this resulted in an increased tourist footfall for these facilities. That said, when you conduct such a big tournament in small cities like Sochi, you can't expect all the facilities to have 100% occupancy after the event.
2917  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPals Bitcoin is a scam on: November 19, 2020, 03:58:59 AM
I, for one, will never use PayPal crypto option, because it's so very lame.
At the same time, I mist admit that PayPal has done something that adds to mass adoption, and it's a good thing.

This is my opinion regarding this topic as well. Not a big fan of PayPal (had bad experience with them in the past), but they have done something positive for the mass-adoption. And almost everyone is gaining, because the prices have risen by 70% to 80% during the last 2-3 weeks. And who knows, this measure from PayPal may result in more mainstream companies accepting BTC.
2918  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPals Bitcoin is a scam on: November 18, 2020, 06:46:41 AM
Paypal has only accepted new Bitcoin for a while and they may still be exploring to learn about how to transfer from your wallet to someone else or make Bitcoin payments, so before you get a deeper understanding of the matter you shouldn't call it a scam In my opinion it is only a matter of time and you can wait until it is resolved. I think paypal already has a really good name there and they won't scam everyone just because of cases like this.

I agree. They have just started the testing phase, and it will go on until mid-2021. The proper implementation and additional features will be offered only after this testing period. And you have to be careful, if you want to call a successful business, which has run for more than 20 years as a scam. The community has reacted positively to the news, as can be seen from the 80% jump in exchange rates.
2919  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 💰 Summer Tokyo 2020 💰 Discussion and bet thread 💰 Summer Game 💰 Postponed 21 on: November 18, 2020, 06:36:06 AM
Olympics games are somewhat a business, an opportunity for the host country to make money or at least break even as far as expenses goes. So I doubt that they will allow the Olympics without fans and tourist. So it means that they will only push through when everything has settled down, specially the vaccines. So yes, it might not happen next year, and could be postponed up to 2022.

Every sporting event is a business opportunity and the same is true for Olympics as well. The infrastructure that is being built for the games would benefit the resident population for many decades and the hosting city and the surrounding regions will get a big boost as far as tourism is concerned. But if the visitors are not allowed, then the boost for the tourism sector may be somewhat limited.
2920  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen for Amazon to accept Bitcoin? on: November 18, 2020, 06:23:47 AM
All these big institution will still rush in later or sooner. Bitcoin has gained the attention of the world and this is just the starting point.  Paypal is leading the stage, Amazon will come very soon and it will just continue like that for others large based institution.

If they rush towards Bitcoin, then it will be great news. But if they don't, then I won't be much surprised. The breakthrough with PayPal came more than a decade after the first Bitcoin was mined. If you check the old threads (especially the ones from 2013 and 2014), there was a lot of optimism from the users that Bitcoin would go mainstream by 2015 or so. But it never got realized. Anyway, those who remained loyal are getting rewarded now.
