1961  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-03-03 Analyst says Tesla made a Profit of US$1-Billion after Buying Bitcoin on: March 08, 2021, 01:20:51 PM
After the purchase of bitcoins by Tesla, the rate did not rise as high as expected.  According to preliminary forecasts, Bitcoin was supposed to rise to $ 100,000, but everything is ahead and having invested $ 1.5 billion, Elon Musk will certainly receive 3 or even 5 times more

This is just ridiculous. If there was any indication like this, then Tesla would have invested $15 billion instead of $1.5 billion in Bitcoin. Since the start of 2021, Bitcoin has risen by 72%. Telsa has made a profit of around 60% to 70%. Everyone is happy with this, with the exception of some sceptics who would blame Bitcoin for each and every bad thing in this world. And I am 100% sure that Elon Musk and the rest of the Tesla shareholders are more than happy with the $1 billion profit from Telsa which they received so far.
1962  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin balance on exchanges reached a 2-year low on: March 08, 2021, 01:10:24 PM
This may be due to the fact that institutional investors are accumulating Bitcoin. Small scale traders are increasingly getting pushed out of the market, and large-scale investors and institutions are replacing them. And the latter type is unlikely to store their coins in exchange wallets. And it is the safest thing to do as well. We never know when some of these exchanges will get hacked and their coins stolen.
1963  Economy / Speculation / Re: $1.9 trillion stimulus passes senate on: March 08, 2021, 12:58:38 PM
I don't think the effect would be seen now. Besides even if they spending power increases, it would lead to inflation, and less money to spend on crypto trades, methinks

Inflation means big spending as well. Inflation occurs when people have too much money and they can afford to pay for assets that are not essential. So there is a real chance that some people who were initially hostile to the idea of cryptocurrency may go for it. I believe large number of individuals in the United States are about to get their stimulus cheques very soon. It will be having an immediate impact on the cryptocurrency market in the form of increased purchases of BTC.
1964  Economy / Speculation / Re: If the FBI wallet with 141,000 bitcoins was stolen what would happen? :o on: March 08, 2021, 12:00:50 PM
First of all, I dont think that's plausible to happen for someone to steal all those bitcoins from FBI. I mean, anything is possible, but realistically what are the chances?

But even if that happens, I doubt that would affect bitcoin price massively, or for a longer period of time. I guess that if someone stole those bitcoins, he wouldn't send them to Coinbase or Binance and try to sell them there, but he would sell them OTC. So no, I'm not worried about that scenario at all.

Theoretically there is a possibility. Afterall, Bitcoin is a digital asset and if somehow the hacker can access the private key, then he will be able to move the coins. But no one in their right mind would do that. Think about the consequences. The FBI do have some very talented people who will track you down even if you are hiding in the most remote corner of the world. And if you are thinking about spending those stolen coins, then forget about it. There's not even a 0.0000001% possibility.
1965  Economy / Economics / Re: Did tesla's $1.5 billion bitcoin purchase negatively affect their stock price on: March 08, 2021, 11:50:27 AM
I honestly think it's just the investors' way of thinking that bitcoin could somehow add some major risk to the company but honestly that doesn't make sense and doesn't feel like an adequate reasoning for their dumping.
If buying btc is truly their reason of dumping tesla stocks massively then they better off withdrawing all their investment from tesla any way, a company like tesla that's high tech should also try out some advanced technology like blockchain otherwise they won't get ahead.

The recent fall in Tesla stock price has nothing to do with the Bitcoin purchase. Tesla was overpriced as hell (it is still over priced at current P/E levels) and it doesn't surprise me that the price fell. In fact I wonder why the prices didn't fell earlier. The immediate reason why the stock prices fall may be due to the entry of new competitors to Tesla in the EV sector. Also, there are announcements made by some of the well known vehicle manufacturers regarding entry in to the EV sector.
1966  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the world be without poverty on: March 08, 2021, 11:40:11 AM
China is really a developing country poverty can be alleviated if other countries like china help in this way there is no such step in our country while the government helps the poor it does not reach the poor for political leaders. The government must take strict action and try to improve the living standards of the people living below the poverty line.

The approach taken by the Chinese government is the best. But it can't be implemented in the democratic nations. Because the people are more focused on short-term benefits and if a certain political party refuse to provide subsidies and freebies, then the voters will make sure that the lose the elections. The Chinese regime doesn't have to worry about the elections, and therefore they went ahead with their policies.
1967  Economy / Economics / Re: Am I too late to Bitcoin? on: March 08, 2021, 11:04:41 AM
There may be a lot of people who own $10 or $20 worth of Bitcoin. But we can't really call them as Bitcoin investors. I would put the limit at $1,000. Anyone who owns more than $1,000 worth of Bitcoin can be considered as a Bitcoin investor. And I believe that the numbers may be really low. At the most, it can be 0.2% of the world's population (15 million), but a conservative estimate would be much lower.
1968  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: March 08, 2021, 07:44:22 AM
The point is Pant is playing well and he was instrumental in both the series against Australia and England and the lower order is playing well and doing double duty even though the top order fails and your point is correct, this team does not depend upon a single player as Kohli was the poster boy for a long time and that changed when he returned from Australia and yet India won.

India was forced to include new players due to injury which ended up as the best thing that happened to them if not we would not see players like Washington Sundar and Mohammed Siraj who played major roles in the last two series.

Now there will be competition for the spot of spin bowling all rounder, as Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar can't be included together in the final XI, when India play abroad. There will be competition for the spot of pace bowlers as well. Once Shami is fit, then India needs to choose between Shami, Ishant, Umesh, Shardul, Natarajan and Siraj. And Kohli is not going to be happy if Saini is dropped from the squad.
1969  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA EURO 2021 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Qualifiers! on: March 07, 2021, 05:11:15 PM
In my opinion, the main contenders for the trophy are the France, Spain and Germany.

I would say that Spain is far ahead of the remaining countries. France and Germany can cause upsets, but right now Spain is at the top. Belgium, England and Portugal are also strong contenders. England is always under-rated by the bookies and making bet in their favor is going to be an attractive option. They are being placed in a relatively easy group. And the Scotland vs England match is going to be epic. Make sure that no one is going to miss that match.
1970  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: March 07, 2021, 04:37:14 PM
So why they need to announce it too early ? There are still few months in June and no one knows what will be the situation at that time. Perhaps the situation may be normal and they don't need to move the final out of Lord's cricket ground ?

England is one of the world leaders in COVID 19 vaccination and the medical experts are of the opinion that the pandemic will be completely under control within the next 2-3 months. Already around 1/3rd of the population has received vaccine shots in the UK. The impact will be visible by next month or so. None of the other cricket playing nations have achieved this level of vaccination (perhaps with the exception of the UAE, where 58% have been vaccinated).
1971  Economy / Economics / Re: Did tesla's $1.5 billion bitcoin purchase negatively affect their stock price on: March 07, 2021, 04:27:35 PM
There are a lot of things to consider here but ruling out several factors like Tesla was doing good financially and they were just recently at their ATH my bet is on that there is a group of stockholders/board members that expressed their opposition against their cash reserves being invested in Bitcoin when they weren't heard from it they just simply sold off their shares, but don't quote me on this one I'm just giving you some possibilities on why a financially well performing company is suddenly going down in value. If we rule out the controversy and all chances are people just took the profit that's why Tesla shares are doing down and this is common on stocks that are up on their ATH same as cryptocurrencies.

That can be one of the possibilities. But let's not forget the fact that a few months before, Elon himself claimed that the Tesla stocks are overpriced. That probably did more damage than any of the other factors. There may be other factors in play as well. Joe Biden has taken some controversial steps ever since he took office. That might have had an impact on the stock market, and specifically on overpriced stocks such as TSLA.
1972  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: John McAfee charged with fraud over cryptocurrency on: March 07, 2021, 04:17:43 PM
Is fun because maybe Elon musk ends this way too in some years, is the price to pay to be part of the party.

You are doing a great disservice to the cryptocurrency sector by comparing a successful businessmen such as Elon Musk with a criminal like John McAfee. Elon Musk never benefited from any of his tweets, simply because he doesn't own any cryptocurrency. On the other hand, his endorsal resulted in massive profits for early adopters within the cryptocurrency sector. IMO, we should be thankful to him.

On the other hand, John McAfee knowingly promoted scam projects in return for monetary payments. A lot of cryptocurrency enthusiasts trusted him and put their hard earned money in these scam projects. All of that money vanished. And he repeated this cycle many times, earning huge amounts of $$$ in the process. And he never apologized for ruining the lives of so many people.
1973  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: John McAfee charged with fraud over cryptocurrency on: March 07, 2021, 01:49:21 PM
lol. I read an article about this yesterday and this is a copy paste from it tho. He is in detention in Spain for tax fraud and being accused of many charges. Most likely he will be kicked to US so the court can milk him few millions and the case will be settled, unless his lawyer is not good enough to prevent him from visiting a 5* prison for few weeks.

I am not sure whether the court will take a favorable stance towards McAfee. He is accused in a number of crimes, including one case of murder. The Americans are trying to get him extradited for some time, but this guy managed to avoid that until now. Once he is deported back to the United States, he will be tried for the 2012 murder of Gregory Faull. A few years back, a US Federal District judge ordered McAfee to pay a compensation of $25 million, but he ignored the judgement.
1974  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the world be without poverty on: March 07, 2021, 01:34:27 PM
It may not be possible to solve poverty in the world, because I understand the words rich and poor differently, however hunger in the world can be ended, agricultural technological products can enable us to get more harvest in a shorter time. Thanks to agricultural technology.

I really doubt whether crop productivity can be increased any further. It has almost reached a saturation point. The climate change and decreasing soil productivity can actually cause a decline in the agricultural output in the next few decades. Also, the world population is shifting towards a protein-rich diet from a cereal/vegetable-based diet, and this requires more crop area to feed everyone.
1975  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Joe Biden is President of the United States of America on: March 07, 2021, 01:22:15 PM
Senate democrats pass the 1.9 trillion dollar covid relief package in the senate. Party line vote, 50-49. Calls for numerous expenditures, but most notably the 1400 dollar stimulus checks and 300 dollar/wk unemployment checks. Also gave states 350 billion in aid with some funding for vaccine programs and ACA subsidies. So, who wants to guess what this will do to the inflation rate? It seems there is this notion that instead of reopening local economies and letting businesses operate, printing money through short term stimulus checks will solve the issue. The problem is, you end up having to repay the "debt" you create when you print this money at some point or another.

Yeah.. obviously voting should be along the party lines. GOP no longer have any senators from the blue states. But senators such as Murkowski would side with Dems at any point in the future. On the other hand, the so called "conservative Democrats" such as Joe Manchin sides with the official party line almost every time. He voted against the appointment of Amy Coney Barrett  to the SCOTUS. To appease his conservative supporters, he may side with the GOP in a few non-priority issues. But he has voted in favor of the stimulus package. Conservative voters prove that they are the biggest idiots. Again and again, they elect senators such as Joe Manchin, Joe Donnelly, Heidi Heitkamp and Doug Jones, who consistently side with the liberals.
1976  Economy / Speculation / Re: $1.9 trillion stimulus passes senate on: March 07, 2021, 01:13:16 PM
When the first stimulus was passed the price was in the $6,000 range. I’m not saying this latest stimulus will bring that kind of % price increase but more money available to so many people means some of it will end up being invested in bitcoin surely. Exciting times Smiley

With the latest tranche of $2 trillion of helicopter money, US Dollar is no longer a safe asset to store your wealth. So I expect a lot of people to convert their US Dollar holdings to other assets (such as Bitcoin or gold). Purchasing Bitcoin was never been more easier, with PayPal and Mastercard jumping in to the BTC bandwagon now. So we can expect a lot of people to purchase BTC in the next few months. And it's not just going to be the individuals. Corporations are accumulating BTC and I expect them to increase the pace of their purchases.

1978  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 07, 2021, 12:46:32 PM
A low scoring final match between OZ vs NZ , NZ won quite easily in the end by 7 wickets. Chasing just 143 runs to win both openers Guptill and Conway batted well and gave a century opening partnership which just sealed the match in their favour. last match was also a decider as 5 match series was 2- 2 and by winning the match BZ win the series.

New Zealand played really well, and they made use of the home advantage. Kyle Jamieson seems to have gone out of form as soon as he was purchased by the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was dropped for the 5th match and replaced with Mark Chapman. Australian batsmen once again failed against the spinners and only Aaron Finch and Matthew Wade could make 30 plus scores. And even Finch was unimpressive, scoring his 36 from 32 balls.
1979  Economy / Economics / Re: Food prices doubled this year on: March 07, 2021, 12:35:40 PM
Which country you are residing in? Even if the tax rates are increased, that should not have much impact on the food prices. Because the governments almost never increases the tax on agricultural products. However, increasing oil prices may cause additional expenses in transporting food products. Here in my country there has been no increase in the food prices. We are paying the same rates that we used to pay before the pandemic.
It is not the issue with particular country, it is happening all over the world but the amount maybe unnoticeable but surely the prices are increased due to the tax change policies. You can think that few cents increase on the fuel price may not affect the food products but the transportation of raw material and the transportation or complete material, then importing transport will add and sump up a huge value for sure.

No. It is not happening all over the world. Here in Singapore there was no significant increase in the food prices. My friends in India are also of the same opinion. And here we import most of the food products, so the impact should have been visible if there was an increase. Taxes are getting hiked, as the governments have now received a shot in the arm with the ongoing pandemic. They got the excuse to increase the taxes further.
1980  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Thailand government seeks measures to tackle the problems of illegal gambling. on: March 07, 2021, 12:24:59 PM
If these countries you've mentioned support crypto then it's easy to travel with huge money in your bitcoin wallet, but if not, it's still useless. Exchanging your bitcoin in countries where p2p is the most popular is not easy, especially if you are a tourist, correct me if I'm wrong.

A certain amount of risk is always there in P2P transactions. But as long as you limit your transactions with traders having a very good feedback score, you should be OK. Compared to the other options (such as carrying cash or prepaid cards), this option seems to be easier and safe for me. Obviously you need to be careful, to avoid falling in legal trouble and scams. But if you have the experience in traveling from one country to other for gambling, then I expect you to have some basic understanding of how things work there.
