301  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Islamic State 'beheads second US journalist' on: October 12, 2014, 09:09:31 PM
any updates about these guys? I heard they are now operating in several muslim countries too.
They've spread a bit, controlling more land mass than government-controlled sections in Syria and Iraq, mostly pushing in North Syria, now. They continue to be organized in Sinai and to its West, which they claim as their Levant. NATO & relateds' non-ground military actions in Syria will likely succeed in keeping Assad in power but fail to actually root out ISIL. ISIL continues to hold many Iraqi and Syrian oil fields. However, the US & rest of NATO have been successful in recruiting Kurds and trying to get them on the West's side, great because the Kurds control a good many oil fields and had ambiguous diplomatic goals. NATO's actions will also prevent ISIL from properly taking Syria over and setting up a true government. Turkey still considers what to do with ISIL. ISIL gave an outline of countries they want to take (old-time Levant) which doesn't include Turkey, and given Turkey hates Assad (it's their condition for joining the war against ISIL), Turkey isn't willing to go all-out and burn all ISIL bridges, getting itself involved in a long occupation just yet. -And anyway, ISIL needs to sell its oil at a steep discount -- Turkey is maybe keeping that in mind and wondering if NATO will refuse both to oust Assad and commit ground troops, and maybe they also wonder what the USG would do if Turkey were to negotiate with ISIL.

Without (yet another) military occupation, it's basically just a slowly failing quarantine. I'll be surprised if it doesn't turn into a ground war for NATO. US/Turkey diplomacy is what everything's waiting on while ISIL continues pushing out. If it fails, NATO almost has to put boots on the ground and occupy Iraq and Syria. IMO.

I have heard EI is considering infecting some members and going to the States and Europe to contaminate people, this is chilly Embarrassed

Just having some troubles understanding who's EI. Could you explain better?

May be Spanish acronym of ISIS/ISIL (or literally, IS) - Estado Islámico (EI). Full Spanish name would be Estado Islámico de Irak y el Levante (EIIL).

(in case you didn't have enough acronyms to remember Tongue)

But the dollar, without any competence, could hold on for 40 more years. The pound, the euro, etc, all them are tightly glued to the dollar. All world currencies go together.

What about the BRICS gold-backed bank ?

What about all the gold that China has been hoovering up for the last 3 years. They're clearly going to use it to offset their losses when they start dumping US treasuries.

I don't think that central banks have as much control over events as people think they have. If you don't control EVERYTHING then you control nothing. All it takes is a hairline crack. Manipulating commodity paper markets is a very superficial tool - it doesn't run very deep and only works as long as there's no panic.

The 2008 crisis changed the entire landscape because people suddenly realised that money can "disappear". There is less and less room for central control to work because they cannot afford the slightest failure in confidence otherwise an unstoppable run will commence.

Sounds like a lot of downward pressure on gold, too, then, which's already dropped like a stone this year, if banks hold commodities and have to sell them to keep solvent. Doesn't this mitigate inflationary pressure from a weakening USD? I mean - if everything equally collapses, the USD isn't any weaker at the end, relative to any other currency/commodity. I'm assuming banks aren't keeping BTC reserves, though, so...

Kluge I do really wonder who you are in real life, you always sound very intelligent. A finance broker? A millionaire? A bitcoin millionaire? A guy with a PhD in economics? A guy who owns his own big business? A big CEO or international manager? I don't know. Maybe youre just an average joe type guy but I doubt it.
Cheesy I'm an unemployable, near-penniless high school graduate with a work history of failed startups and contract work for NFPs. Seriously, I can't even get a job as a cashier at Dollar General, so all you get from me is that "minimum wage snark" but without even the minimum wage job.
305  Economy / Gambling / Re: Primedice | Most Popular Bitcoin Game |1% Edge | PVP | Jackpot | Faucet on: October 12, 2014, 05:53:32 PM
Not terribly imaginative, but each level could reduce house edge by .01% nominally. -Or .005%.

House edge can be only reduced individually through "rake back" . So u get that % of wagered back to ur account. Not a bad idea but it would  some coding.
Couldn't a user's level changing just trigger a check to re-calculate which number the user needs to roll under or over? Idunno how the formula looks now, but I'd guess you'd just want the server to add to the house edge multiplier variable (.99 if user wins on rolling under) .0001*UserLevel. -So if the player's level 8, say, the server'd calculate house edge for the user as .99+(.0001*8 ), where house edge is then .92% and the user needs to roll under 49.54 instead of 49.5 (if level 0) to win.

this is where i am stumped...how are these pseudo-random games effectively calibrated? tia! :\
It's just a random roll with one numerical outcome. It'd just be modifying which final numbers are considered a win or loss by the server. It'd be trickier to implement this on an impure casino with hundreds of rigged non-numerical outcomes. -Like you know how you frequently might get two 7's and then an off-center 7 on a slot machine? You weren't actually close to winning the jackpot, but it's rigged to look that way and's multitudes more likely to have two 7's and an off-center 7 than three centered 7s even though it should only be, at most, 2x more likely.

the way i understand it in a Nevada slot machine by law the result is generated purely on timing of when the button is pushed whereas PD relies on a combination of generated hashes...major fundamental difference and is exploitable imo! :\
Aww, gee, I'd die in a B&M casino. I've never heard of one that sounds better than going to a Chuck E. Cheese with alcohol (though Chuck E. Cheese would be dramatically more tolerable if they served the parents alcohol...). I doubt our beloved impure BTC-taking casinos follow any NV standards, though.
306  Economy / Speculation / Re: The financial markets are starting to crash, abandon the fiat titanic on: October 12, 2014, 05:48:02 PM
Financial markets are starting to crash?? -But commodities are, too. It's like we have spiraling (and unmeasured) deflation right now. Have you been to the gas pump, lately? It's time to buy all the things on near-0% interest loans!

thats exactly why there is about to be another round of QE of unseen scale.
all western governments are deep in debt, they absolutely can not afford to have deflation, they will drop sacks full of cash from airplanes if they have to.
It does make me wonder where the Hell the money's gone. Who's been stuffing the trillions under their mattress? Is it an effect of traders/banks seeing a coming deflation crisis and making a self-fulfilling prophecy or outright market manipulation? I mean, banks which decide outright to stop lending, instead hording cash, and maybe convert to an insurance company -- seems like they'd be all set to come out of a deflationary crisis as the world's overlord.

ETA: -Or just a weak economy, I guess. Low money velocity in bad market.

Wow. People like me and many others struggle to even get 0.1BTC to trade with and re-invest, but some can take 2BTC and throw it out on gambling. Depressing. Not attacking you OP, I know what addiction is like (drugs). Just saying that it is amazing Sad

gambling isn't an addiction, it's just a transaction, like shopping at a store.  transactions
Fine. Lump gambling and shopping addiction together for transaction addiction. I guess we could sterilize it.... "outgoing money transaction compulsion disorder."
310  Economy / Economics / Re: How can the interest on reserves be higher than the federal funds rate. on: October 12, 2014, 05:24:52 PM
Interbank rate for overnight is very low because the money's effectively useless to banks with a cash surplus over reserve requirements, usually with heavy surplus and not too much demand. It's a pretty-much guaranteed bet and lending the cash has no operational impact on the lending bank, so anything's better than nothing.

ETA: Errr - wait. I didn't know the Fed pays for excess reserves. That changes things. To answer your question, then -- beats me. Maybe it's just a courtesy.

312  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If bitcoin was real coins, Would you pick 1500 satoshis off the ground? on: October 12, 2014, 04:58:47 PM
I will pick any coins on the ground that has value.

Even if such a coin is worth for 0.6 cent?
Wouldn't it be wiser for you to spend your time on a part-time work or self learning instead of picking up those 0.6 cent coins?
Not likely. If someone could bend down and pick up pennies consistently all day, they could ideally make significantly above minimum wage. (very, very ideally)

Assume it takes you 3 seconds to bend down and pick up $.006 once you have a rhythm down. You'd collect $.12/minute or $7.20 per hour. This sounds crappy, but it's worth noting you'd really have no enforceable tax liability, so if you've already maxed out your EITC working a regular job for the year, this could be an exceptionally fantastic part-time job. Plus you get to pick your own hours and have no boss less Coinstar.

Sats are more difficult, though, since you'd probably want to sweep them (or organize a sendmany), which could add an extra few seconds to the process. -So now all we need is a street filled with kilosats. ETA: I guess if they're physical coins, no extra time's added since you could use the coins as-is.

ETA2: This would make for an interesting prison/labor camp. Instead of breaking rocks, just spread $50 in near-worthless coins on the ground for recess.
If you were constantly picking up the 'coins' then you would likely not need to stand back up but would simply stay in the "down" position.

In your scenario, your $7.20 per hour would really be closer to $10 or $11 per hour if you are not paying taxes, which, IMO is pretty good considering that this would be a zero skill talk
Yeah. I was thinking I'd probably take a crouched-down position and waddle over to the next coin. Cheesy

Not terribly imaginative, but each level could reduce house edge by .01% nominally. -Or .005%. The affiliate program could easily put a high-level player with a rake-back from the affiliate he signed up under - especially if he plays with high odds (and thus would probably have much, much more in total bets from which aff cut's calculated) - could give the player a significant edge over the house.

Alternately, maybe each level gives a player an entry into a daily or weekly raffle so long as they bet at least once during the week where PD creates maybe a 1BTC daily prize. This might even be profitable for PD.

Not sure I'd blame protesters. They aren't doing much rioting. Reporters broke the camel's back and maybe should be brought up on charges for being so irresponsible and greedy, but it's clearly part of something bigger which just needed a tiny spark to set off. Parents insisting he had only some type of bullet-firing sandwich didn't help, either... -but people are clearly looking for some kind of responsible leaders on this who can cause the sparks and bring the change they want instead of letting faux reporters and shootings set off uncontrolled & undisciplined responses. The LA riots are still well-known - so like with Vietnam, people are going to scrutinize anything done now looking for parallels -- there's no place for violence in causing change for the better right now. They seem like they have a lot of pent up anger at what's happening but've been disenfranchised and became cynical in the old leadership structures in the black community which lacks any catalyzing figure or progress they can feel. The media establishment pushes toothless profiteers like Al Sharpton, but the responses seen, especially in Ferguson, makes it clear these kinds of people are utterly ineffective. Obama's probably the best leader the black community is being given right now, but he really can't connect to people and catalyze movements the way someone on the outside could and I'd argue he lacks credibility, now. I'd guess he would've been a much more effective leader as a senator and could've had a lasting legacy, maybe even a national day.

-But what the Hell do I know about this?
315  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Unarmed teen shot by cops for a sandwich on: October 12, 2014, 02:50:39 AM
17 rounds?
Isn't that excessive?
An average of ~15% of fired bullets from a police officer in a gun fight (from NYPD) hits, deviating no more than 10% (nominal) from that either way from 1990-2000.

One hit from 17 rounds fired'd be >5%, 2 being ~12%. Assuming the guy wasn't standing still ten feet in front of them and was exceptionally fat - pretty reasonable. Incidentally, if you round the tenths up, the average rounds fired in a gunfight, on average, by officers in the year 2000 is 17. http://www.theppsc.org/Staff_Views/Aveni/OIS.pdf fwiw

I'd very strongly suggest trying to get in touch with an exec from BancVue if serious. They can help you out a ton with start-up, logistics, and shared branching. Trying to get a sit-down around the time of a trade show would probably be your best bet. https://www.bancvue.com/about/upcoming-events.html

I have messaged stunna countless times since months now to IP ban me from he's website as I have a some how sort of addiction to the game. Whenever I get bitcoins, I usually lose them to he's site and all he does is ignore the request.

I feel that this is extremely imature and that a gambling website should not treat their customers like this, he talks all about playing fair and everything but when a customer can't control he's self and its behind the scenes from the public. He doesn't give a shit basically if you lose, just ip ban me already jezus.
Wouldn't you just use a proxy?

Only thing I've been arrested for was petty amounts of cannabis and a fourth of july party (note the irony).  And for not appearing to court for a traffic ticket.

Kicked out of my parent's house for theft?  I was kicked out because I was doing MXE to raise my awareness everyday for a couple weeks and then shredded guitar on acid like I have never done before.  I was kicked out because I sought to use my consciousness and life freely, something my parents don't see eye to eye with.

In your reality only.

Over a half dozen arrests, warrants out for hit and run and sexual assault of a minor, kicked out of parent's house for stealing, kicked out of shroomery forum for being an idiot.  Stole over $20,000 from a forum member.  Kicked out of roommates' house for sticking your finger in her six year old daughter during bath time.

I'll be curious what the police think when you tell them you are allowed to do anything you want because you are a god.   Roll Eyes
Aw man, are you being over-dramatic? You're ruining my adorable conception of dank. Sad

Where else would life be so under-valued that they'd allow that death trap to run?

Strange-looking (CFX???), but mostly nostalgia:
