1181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 2.0 - being shut down by Bitcoin 1.0 core devs? on: March 26, 2014, 08:30:06 PM
Sorry... but when I download the Bitcoin blockchain, I am hosting it for Bitcoin, not Mastercoin, not Colored Coins...

(Bitcoin) Blockchain serving anything anything other than Bitcoin is considered parasitic.
When I downloaded the blockchain, I don't want anyone to use it for buying pornography.  But we don't get to decide what people use the blockchain for.

Besides, 'mastercoin' isn't something 'new' at all.  It is merely 'bitcoin on steroids'.  It is still bitcoin.  It is just 'high performance bitcoin'.  Why do you insist 'it is something - not bitcoin'.  Mastercoin is bitcoin+.  It's bitcoin.
Your analogy fails it. By your logic, it's okay for Bitcoin's blockchain to require you to download Quark's blockchain as well. After all, we don't get to decide what people use the blockchain for... the extra 40 bytes is but a small example of that.

Bitcoin's blockchain is for bitcoins, any extra information attached to the blockchain to host other coins increases the energy expended to maintain it. Isn't that by definition parasitic?

From your past posting, it seems like you're pimping out MSC and Counterparty bullshit for your own interests... tell us, how many MSC do you own?
Every Bitcoin transaction is parasitic. Mining fees don't come close to the actual costs, and the fees aren't properly distributed to those it's costing (full nodes), anyway.

How frequently does it poll? Possible it was auto-blocked as DoS.
1184  Economy / Services / Re: GAW MINERS PAYS FOR YOUR SIGNATURE => HIGH RATES!! on: March 26, 2014, 04:16:22 PM

1185  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining when it costs more in power than payout. on: March 26, 2014, 04:10:41 PM
The issue's that you can get it cheaper by purchasing right on an exchange if you're bullish. This ignores many benefits, though, not the least of which is that you don't have to deal with an exchange and bank to buy coins.
1186  Economy / Economics / Re: I know Gold and Silver are money. Is Bitcoin money? on: March 26, 2014, 12:54:20 PM
You forgot the most important property - scarcity. Gazillions of crypto 'currencies' can be created at basically no cost, having identical properties and serving the same function as bitcoin. Infinite digits on a computer screen, yeah sounds a little like the USD.
Gold on the other hand is limited in supply and unique in color, shine and other physical properties.
No other coin can be Bitcoin, though, in the same way that tungsten isn't gold. Bitcoin has its own data, its own protections, and its own rules. You can't create an infinite supply of bitcoins (that is, you can't print yourself to a higher %total ownership), and I don't think you can lump all cryptocurrencies together for the same reason we don't lump all metal together. They all have unique properties and uses.
1187  Other / Off-topic / Re: Would you want a Dad who parties with you at 3AM? on: March 26, 2014, 12:23:18 PM
I'm not sure if it'd be weirder for me to be at a 3AM party or my dad... A 3AM party around these backwoods parts, I'd imagine would be primarily gas huffing, meth, and sloppy, regrettable sex where everyone passes out after the first couple minutes. Lots of cheap weed, too, because it's "adult." Idunno -- maturity's perceived oddly around here. The more "gritty" you are, the more adult you're supposed to be, so once you stab a fellow in the chest, take his wallet, violently rape his wife, snort cocaine off her bloodied tits, and smash up a random car, that's, you know, when you know you're an adult. It's all about risk-taking, but it has to be "bad" for some reason. If you go to school smelling like weed and say everything's bullshit, that's when everyone's thinking "wow, she's so mature." Of course, if you want your daughter to be in the "right crowd," you damn well better be sure to get her into kindergarten wearing "100% bitch" torn t-shirts and a Jack Daniels sticker on her backpack. Need something catchy to call adversaries (like the teachers, obviously), too... maybe "you better step the fuck back, lame-ass old bitch!" That'd be maybe what she's to say when assigned homework to draw a picture of her pets. Maybe only five in years, but obviously wise beyond!

Anyway - can't really imagine anyone in family at 3AM parties. One cousin, I guess, if it were some cosplay thing. So... I can't even relate to the question. "No," probably.
1188  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Poll] no-interest banks such as JAK on: March 26, 2014, 11:57:44 AM
AFAIK, the Islamic Bank of Bitcoin is still in existence. I don't often take loans anymore, but when I do occasionally snipe one or two from the lending section if I feel it's very safe, I won't charge interest or take collateral. Tips almost always exceed what I ask in everything, so I'm totally cool with freedom, and it helps along a "pay what you can" model I'm fond of -- some people don't tip, and that's fine. It just sucks for unestablished people... you work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, you really don't have much time to be faffing about on Bitcointalk.

1191  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which was the last movie that you Admired? on: March 25, 2014, 02:45:04 PM
Generally hate anime, so was surprised to recently enjoy Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away (fun fact: English dialogue and subtitles occasionally give different meanings to scenes).
There are many other titles you'd probably like, try watching the rest of Miyazaki's movies, they are all deep and touching.
Working on it. Grin

Too cynical for serious, linear media anymore outside what's clearly presented as subjective. Too much bullshit, especially in documentaries. Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Lars and the Real Girl, Thank You for Smoking all also underappreciated and worth a watch.

1194  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can the Block Chain get too big and make Bitcoin unworkable? on: March 25, 2014, 12:30:55 PM
2 years later... Blockchain is too damn big

compared to what, exactly?

Well it's almost as big as my windows folder
Bigger than mine. Five years since last fresh install, too. Cheesy Ran out of room on SSD drive long ago and had to shove it all on the mechanical storage drive.

1195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Forum now hosting the Bitcoin Wiki on: March 23, 2014, 09:09:35 AM
Unexpected thread turn.

Lol damn I remember this is some old crazy shit https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Tonal_Bitcoin
Luke does version numbers in tonal, too. It has caused some surprises... Cheesy Great, queer guy - does a lot of good work.

ETA from the future (so as not to further veer OT in future posts):
Wonder why bfg doesnt have tonal version numbers
BFG is in tonal, I think. Version 3.10 > 3.9.

I am admittedly disappointed to see tonal out of stock Core GUI options (I think someone did make a "TBC" fork, though), which was originally added in 2011.

Luke's probably done more to further discourse of tonal numbering than anyone on Earth. I'm too fond of Schoenberg, though.
1196  Economy / Economics / Re: My bank account's got robbed by European Commission. Over 700k is lost. on: March 23, 2014, 07:49:57 AM
Or you could move to the USA, sit on your couch all day, and wait for that government check. Im sure you could get citizenship in a couple weeks if you complained enough too. The banks are crooked, but they wont lose your money.  Cheesy
Cash assistance cuts out pretty quick in most states (~2-5 years per lifetime), citizenship is nearly impossible without loads of money and/or an employment contract as a skilled worker, and US banks lose money all the time (but are bailed out either by the FDIC, NCUA, or Fed).
1197  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Please Help Test Armory 0.91-beta! on: March 20, 2014, 04:42:25 PM
At wallet corruption detection, should you choose to fix and need to unlock, Armory will not prompt again if an incorrect password is entered, simply note the error and present no option but to close the window. Would be nice if Armory presented the wallet name instead of ID tag there, too. As if I have any bloody idea what the password to 3CU1BLUti is... Tongue
1198  Other / Off-topic / Re: My Internet Speed is 10kbps?? on: March 20, 2014, 04:10:07 PM
Oh. Dunno why I didn't initially think of this. Some ISPs have per-connection QoS limits (so you may have a 2mbps connection, but for each connection you make, you're only permitted maybe 500kbps). 10kbps would be stupid, but I guess it's possible.

Try a download accelerator like Download Accelerator Plus (riddled with adware... maybe there's a better recommendation) which will force extra connections to download the file in parallel and get around the possible restriction.
1199  Economy / Goods / Re: [SELL] Bitcoin abstract paintings on: March 18, 2014, 01:33:04 AM
Hope you won't mind a little threadjacking now that the paintings seem to be sold... How did you get that canvas effect on the bedroom wall? I really like that. Did you use a slightly darker paint for stripes, or is that really just from brushing at a rotated angle?
1200  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Get 5% off when lending at bitfinex.com !!!! on: March 14, 2014, 08:38:08 PM
Fwiw, I've been using BFX for something like a couple years and had business with Raphael before in exchanging coins. He's a great guy, and though the amount of regulatory risk is concerning, hasn't been an issue, YET (you have to do a bit of hoop-jumping to get USD to a US bank which refuses SWIFT transactions). Only exchange I've used since dumping Gox a long time ago, though I try to not have to use an exchange. Everything's quick and tight, with solid customer service (at least in my experience).

Maybe also worth noting keeping coins there is probably not a good idea with the associated risk, lack of it being legal tender, and relatively low interest rates, but it's a solid place to keep fiat since you're looking at ~.15% per day and it has a transparent market book for liquidity swaps where you can be fairly sure you're at least being matched to a real human taking a leveraged position.

Wouldn't suggest dumping your life savings there, but it's been a valuable service to me for a long time and I currently have a bit of money there.
