301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How long have your rigs run without resetting? on: December 19, 2016, 02:15:53 AM
Mine is at 28 days now.
http://1cf13d.ethosdistro.com/#

It's only 28 days because I upgraded ethOS and that required a reboot. Prior to that it had been several months. The biggest issue for me is the occasional loss of power. It is now cold (relative to "normal" weather here) where I live so I suspect that the next unplanned reboot will be due to loss of power due to an ice storm.
302  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: December 18, 2016, 09:11:30 PM
If you are looking for a decent powered USB hub for Compac stick miners, I posted this on another thread in this sub-forum:

Superbpag 7-port
https://www.amazon.com/Superbpag-Portable-Charger-Transfer-Samsung/dp/B013OK10YM

USPS says it is out for delivery.

Edit: It's arrived. It's solid USB hub with a built-in power supply. No issues with running the Compac at 325MHz. The other hub ran at that speed, but wasn't too happy about it.

And this is what my setup looks like:

It's been stable since I installed it and started running the Compac (voltage adjusted to 0.800, frequency at 325 MHz, 17.8± ghs). Current cgminer instance running on my Mac Mini has been up since 29-November.
303  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [FOR SALE - SIDEHACK STICK] GekkoScience 2PAC - 2x BM1384 USB Stick Miner on: December 18, 2016, 08:44:34 PM
Will the 2pac work plugged straight into a USB2 port on a computer or would it require a separate power supply or powered USB hub?

The USB miners have the potential to draw a lot of current, especially when overclocking them, and most USB ports on a computer are limited. I have an earlier single BM1384 Compac (clocked at 325 MHz, yielding a stable 17.8± ghs) plugged into one of these:

304  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Optiminer/Zcash v1.0.1 (GPU, Linux, AMD) on: December 17, 2016, 11:50:44 PM
Optiminer/Zcash 1.1.0 released https://github.com/Optiminer/OptiminerZcash

Improved hash rates!

I'm seeing 6-14% improvement (the numbers are bouncing around from 120-130 on the miner output) from my 24hr average (113.8 ) on flypool. Once I've been mining with this version for a while I will report what the miner and flypool show.

305  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Giving up real solomining and going back to solomining on p2pool on: December 17, 2016, 11:11:18 PM
I'm throwing ~2th from my modded S7-LN at the pool to see what happens. I'm seeing accepted blocks pretty quickly which is better than my luck on other pools.
306  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Optiminer/Zcash v1.0.1 (GPU, Linux, AMD) on: December 14, 2016, 12:17:08 AM
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Reader,

Can anyone confirm that v1.0.1 really doesn't have any improvements worthwhile mentioning?

As of what i have put together from the information gathered by reading your comments on this matter; it doesn't seem to be worth the hassle of booting up Linux, clone repo, extract, configure and do the testing.

Yours sincerely,

VERSION  1.0.1 IS 7-10% FASTER--

Depending on the card or rig, this version is 7 percent to 10 percent faster.  All my cards hash faster than with version 0.0.6.

I think that the author should work to improve stability.       --scryptr

well, if it is 7% faster, but crash 10 times more, i can't use it.
0.6.0 is stable for 7-10 days (at least). A blessing as far as stability is concerned (on Rx 470 rig, a little less stable on r7 370 rig).

I have been running 1.0.1 for several days now it is ~12% faster for my MSI R7 370 Gaming 4G card versus 0.6.0.

The only time I have seen 1.0.1 restarting the share accepted count is when it loses connectivity to the pool (I use flypool), but I also have a less than stellar internet provider. Optiminer 0.6.0 would regularly crash with SIGSEGV errors in the logging code:

Code:

we're going to test how well the 2-chip code works by default on an original single-chip stick one of these days.

PM me a link to the code (tarball, github, whatever works as long as I can extract it to my mac) and I can give it try for you.
308  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience is now dabbling with 16nm ASICs for new designs on: December 13, 2016, 11:18:51 PM
Here is a great brick I have one of them.
https://www.trcelectronics.com/ecomm/pdf/hlg240h.pdf
will do 192 watts 24/7
Folks, that supply is for LED lighting and is specifically made for power LED strings in lighting panels! It is not a general purpose power supply. Those supplies are made to deliver stable fixed or adjustable (when using dimming funct) current - not stable voltage!

Typically that means that there is a set max voltage to light the LED's (typical conduction threshold drop is 1.1 to 1.6v per-LED depending on the type) and then voltage drops as needed to maintain desired current through the string. (LED brightness is set by the amount current flow through them and that is only indirectly controlled by voltage).

Now yes, if the current is dialed to max then the voltage adjust might do fine and keep ya at 12v but - point is these supplies are not designed to hold voltage steady. If you exceed the dialed in current the voltage out will drop as low as needed to produce the set current and odds are that voltage will be far below what a miner needs leading to possible Vcore regulator damage.

Just putting this warning out there....

Hmmm, this page says constant voltage and constant current:
https://www.trcelectronics.com/View/Mean-Well/HLG-240H-12.shtml

Here is one that will go up to 264 Watts:

My full node has been shut down. Apparently Oceanic, despite a specific "no data cap" policy, has decided to drop back ten and punt, citing "fair use." They blocked 8333 on their end (so my opening it on the modem does no good). I was only using around 200GB/mo (I don't do a lot of bandwidth otherwise), and maybe 80 or 90 connections on Core at a time. A rep said something to the effect of "we don't support mining," and then couldn't find words when I explained how this part of Bitcoin is not mining.

Oh, well... Kiss
bitcoin.conf Smiley
port=8888 (etc)
Thanks...next step.
You're not mining to it so there is no need to have lots of connections either.
maxconnections=12
12 is the minimum you can reliably run it with.
Just got up...no coffee yet...argh.

Anyway...thanks for that. What I had been doing was port forwarded 8333 on the cable modem, and then through my router likewise. Worked fine for quite a while. I've got 16 threads set on the Core options, and inbound connections allowed, no proxy. When the node was running "well," I had anywhere from 70 to 90 connections at a time...by its own devices, so to speak. Otherwise, I don't "get down" to this level at all and am functionally clueless in some regards...but have a passion for learning new stuff. I'll work on it more later today when I get back from town. It's no deal breaker...just a matter of principle, and I feel better about contributing.

Mine on...

Not sure if you have the option on your cable modem (it's been ~16 years since I worked with them directly), but on my DSL modem I have the option to have it run in bridged mode. So instead of the cable/DSL modem having the "public" IP address, your router does, and the modem just passes the traffic through. You could then set up your router to port forward as usual, and the cable modem treats it as normal traffic.

1) where to extract
2) how to run
3 any other info on running the compact BM1384

See the first post of this thread. All of these questions are answered.

If something happened with your system or hardware - it's Claymore! I saw messages that my miners destruct GPUs, PSUs, crash Windows etc. I won't be surprised when someone discovers that the milk always goes bad because of using my miners.

My best friend's cousin's 3rd uncle twice removed said it causes nuclear winter.
313  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience is now dabbling with 16nm ASICs for new designs on: December 06, 2016, 04:07:24 AM
So I worked up a 2-chip string hardware test today that's only about 5 components different than the final stick will be. It's currently up and running, swapped out the previous parallel test board. So that's proof the thing works.

There's still ramp code to worry about, but with extra node-level capacitance to help overcome initial power burst the thing lit right up first time on cgminer. So, I think that's pretty much good to go.

This is awesome news! Now get some sleep so present you isn't stumbling around...
314  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Looking for Advice on 16 to 20" INDUSTRIAL window fan in CANADA on: December 05, 2016, 04:58:26 AM
Actual furnace fans aren't that loud, or they wouldn't be tolerated in homes.  Why don't you try to find a trashed furnace and salvage the fan out of it to see how it does? It can't be worse than the plastic box fans, and can be ducted way easier.

Furnace fans can probably be found by asking around at some local shops that service/install them. They're almost always replacing furnaces when people upgrade them, but the fan/blower units are probably still good.

Here's a link to a Canadian woodworker that made video of exactly what I was thinking.

Both are not regularly available in my country  Sad
Maybe I can try to buy second hand asrock, but biostar is totally out of my range if I don't want to pay a lot for shipping from USA or waiting long because of shipping from China.

So this is where you figure out what is available in your country for a price you are OK with, and build up from there. Will it be The Best™, maybe not, but maybe for your country and your limits, it will be.

Since you want to scale up, maybe try building a four GPU setup first, and get that stable, and then build a bigger rig. You are also likely going to want/need powered risers, so don't worry if the slots are X1 or X16, unless you are getting X16 to X16 risers.

So start with which motherboards are available to you and go from there.

yes because nvidia is not optimized fully,. wait until clymore will work on it, it will be on par if not better

Where this argument falls down is in the economics of the argument, assuming you are in the mining game to make money/profit.

You can mine right now with AMD GPUs that are cheaper than NVDA, and mine at sol/s rates on the AMDs that significantly exceed what's currently achievable on the NVDAs, and the AMD GPUs consume less power, which for many of us is a significant factor.

Can the NVDAs out hash the AMDs? Perhaps given time and optimization of the code. Are the NVDAs more efficient than the AMDs in a sol/s/watt? Not right now, but again, given time and optimization of code, perhaps.

If you are getting started now, go with what works for you now. How long will you wait? A week? A month? Three months? The future may never arrive, and in the meantime you could be earning ZEC now.

I'm working right on it right now, so no worries.
I am seeing VERY interesting things with huge potential repercussions.

Repercussions? Usually this word means bad things...

Hopefully it's not too bad, i.e.: power usage goes up by X%, but we get an extra Y% sols/s
319  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Looking for Advice on 16 to 20" INDUSTRIAL window fan in CANADA on: November 30, 2016, 02:56:03 AM

When I suggested a furnace/AC fan this is exactly what I had in mind. Sure there would be some fabrication required to fit the fan(s) to you application, but they can move a lot of air quietly. If the one(s) you find are new enough they might have built-in speed control easily manipulated by an Arduino or other microcontroller. If it's an older model you can find fan speed controls for not too much money.

Given that it's gotten cold in Canada I'll bet that the furnace/heating shops probably have some, or can get you some pretty quickly.

Short answer...no. And it will not be, according to Kano.
I suggest reading back a few pages on the board...there are a number of posts on the subject, and why the position is what it is.

wtf? news website published in russia : Kano(ckpool) support Segway) lies ....
