301  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Cost of safe deposit box for seed phrase storage by you. on: December 24, 2022, 10:19:36 PM
I'd recommend expanding your search to include self storage prices if you haven't (especially if bank rates have gone up a lot).

To me, bank vaults look like more of a target and have a higher chance of theft. But even if you want to stick with a bank, you might be able to ask how both do differently and negotiate lower - like you can end up doing in chain tech shops that put so many targets on their employees they resent the company...
302  Economy / Economics / Re: It's Simple to understood now cash is king again on: December 24, 2022, 03:11:14 PM
If you're constantly chasing things in high demand, you're constantly chasing losses or tiny profits.

If cash is the in thing now, it won't be by the time you sell it unless it's just being flipped quickly.

Find things that will be in demand again, don't buy gold now find something that's not appreciated much that probably will.

Cash has done well against a lot of common investments but hasn't done better than property or assets like oil and food (like wheat).
303  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Public Key Database with balance 2009-2022 on: December 23, 2022, 05:40:06 PM
1. You need to start by syncing with the bitcoin blockchain (such as by running bitcoin core). You can then use software to parse the blockchain database (there's quite a lot of options available, as well as running the commands on the daemon yourself).

Your might face an issue if you're wanting a public key instead of an address though as they're only given when funds are spent from them and not when funds are received as those are sent to addresses (which are hashed forms of private keys).
304  Other / Archival / Re: Crypto's 2022 contraction on: December 23, 2022, 05:31:17 PM

Ftx and luna were both fairly unexpected, but so was Doge the year before and quite a few other value readjustments (both up and down).
Frankly saying the Doge downfall was expected as it was only rising under the influence of Musk as before his interaction with the memcoin it was trading at far low value and he took undue advantage of his position to influence and manipulate people to invest in Dogecoin and then after it crashed hard. The ATH went to $0.73 in 2021 and now it's at $0.078 so as expected people who holds it have lost majority of their funds in it because they were ignorant enough to invest under someone else influence and he has made huge profits out of it.The majority of supply was concentrated in few wallets meaning centralised sort of control and we all know the prices can be manipulated so for me it was expected.

I meant the initial rise more than the decline of doge. It's still up about 14x from where it normally used to settle (around 50 sats).

I would've expected it to have completely fallen and it even looks to not being too badly considering it's a potentially insecure meme coin (depending on whether it or litecoin have the highest hash power).
305  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Planning to implement BTC payment for my business but I have a question on: December 23, 2022, 12:42:28 PM
On top of what's been mentioned above you could also get a small screen to handle payments (a trezor works too but the screen on that is very small) and then use it like you would a card terminal (and have it set up in a similar way) to handle invoices you send it and display them there (it could be as simple as hooking it up to a computer and dragging the qr code invoice generated onto the other screen with a computer mouse.
306  Other / Meta / Re: QR code integration on profile for address & PGP key? on: December 23, 2022, 12:34:12 PM
The idea on its own i think is a good 0ne but it faces challenges. One of those might be a lack of checking the address you've scanned is the right one. I've an updated version of android where you can derive the text of a qr code from a photo/screenshot, for those that rely on third party apps this is another spectre of attack.

There's the question too of what you scan? Do you scan a bitcoin address or a link (this isn't standard among bitcoin wallets either, especially on mobile)? And if it's a link, you could argue a link should be placed in the address field too (although I'm uncertain as to why it isn't).

I think it'd be a good use of the space where an Avatar is though (perhaps below it) and it's not a bad idea as most mobile wallets have qr Integration.
307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vexl - New private Bitcoin marketplace by Satoshilabs? on: December 23, 2022, 01:35:28 AM
Can anyone else see a crypto based app called vexel in their app store? This feels like it could've been a confusing name choice. There are reviews for it dating back to August too unless they're part of satoshi labs or not a competitor.

Given its description as a social network, I could imagine it either feeling very centralised and controlled or being prone to scam (without the software doing a lot of hand holding).

I don't think they expected many people to find their app either (based on how hard it is to find) so there's a good chance it'll be a long way down the line. I thought most hardware wallets already had some forn of immediate exchange too but I could be wrong on that one (I've normally used cexes or p2p for the lower fees).
308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is difference between Wrapped Bitcoin and Bitcoin? on: December 23, 2022, 12:49:07 AM
It happened already just the same with wETH which was depegged.
wETH isn't pegged? Put of every coin i wouldn't imagine for them to not be able to have a token burn so you can get your eth back out (that feels lazy they haven't)...

I couldn't confirm it anywhere but there was rumours wbtc would lose its peg (substantially) against btc because of the ftx insolvency and them being a main issuer of the coin.

The other problem with stablecoins and wrapped coins is that you can barely ever trade them 1:1, they're not quoted for market sells or buys in favour of the maker - so their price depends on how much you'll pay in fees too to do the trade and how liquid the wrapped token is - and so you'll probably never hold the true value of your coin if you "wrap" it until it gets unwrapped.
309  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin here to stay in Brazil or??.. on: December 22, 2022, 11:40:02 PM
I think countries that have CBDCs will only see them well used if they incorporate them into international payment methods (and considering banks charge so much for converting between currencies, bitcoin and a few alts might be a good alternative for incorporating - particularly to allow large companies to hold other assets and transfer them eg internationally).

CBDCs won't do well on their own against systems like contactless payments and they might just end up being sold to banks too (or - hopefully - payment processors who do charge less fees if they have to be sold off to someone).

Bitcoin could already be used as a payment method in most places so the new law being passed in Brazil might be a gentle shove from a government member to put it in the news and get citizens to invest - especially at a time of a bear market.

Bear markets are normally the times things can be built and tested without the strains of dealing with bull markets (such as higher fees and a greater chance they'll be attacked).
310  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello Im new in crypto but i have idea on: December 22, 2022, 11:33:00 PM
If you wanted to make a physical escrow location, it'd likely be best to run a cafe, bank, hotel or pawnbrokers/jewellery store where it gets busy normally so transactions are well protected and you can gain trust out of that.

You likely won't get much trust online unless you're notable. You might also get little trust in person unless you're considered to have more to lose than the transaction is worth (either by material possessions - such as a building - or by building a reputation).
311  Other / Politics & Society / Re: De-nazify Bitcoin! A brief intro into Bitcoin's neo-nazi and military problems on: December 22, 2022, 11:25:41 PM
Your so called "bitcoin organisation" is as fake as you're calling it because there is no "bitcoin organisation" the closest I could think of for a blockchain having an organisation is the "ethereum foundation".

The github you linked also has collaborators from non Nato countries or is every country that isn't Russia now part of Nato (like China)?

Afaik Russian citizens contributing to the bitcoin ecosystem has been quite big too almost from its inception.

(idk whether to have a fun guessing game of where you're from because your views contradict themselves quite well).

Bitcoin remains immutable. You can't be banned from using it like you can be banned from this forum and github.
312  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I am Bullish On Bitcoin Despite Bear market on: December 22, 2022, 11:09:24 PM
That falling wedge looks quite steep and it's also possible we could touch the bottom more than once before there's a reversal or a break of the supports and resistances.

Elliot waves are generally considered unreliable as has been said above but I think there's a good chance we fall from here down towards 10-14k, I'd expect it to be swift though and fairly random when it happens (so we could recover more first too and even stay here a few months before then).
313  Other / Archival / Re: Crypto's 2022 contraction on: December 22, 2022, 10:55:03 PM
Ftx and luna were both fairly unexpected, but so was Doge the year before and quite a few other value readjustments (both up and down).

I don't think the market is down that much compared with previous bear cycles though - there's also a lot more entities in the market to lose money now though too so perhaps overall we're a lot lower than might've been expected from people investing in crypto companies via traditional routes (such as Coinbase's stock performing badly).
314  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: This store is safe? on: December 21, 2022, 08:22:47 PM
Their reviews would suggest they're a scam: https://www.trustpilot.com/review/golddiamondminer.com

Their web address isn't great either - "icon miners" sounds like something that doesn't make sense and they could happily change.

How did you find the site? Was it an ad or a search result or did someone/somewhere recommend them?
315  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Freebitco.in Multiply Roll Bug on: December 21, 2022, 08:13:27 PM
On the last one, is there a chance the profit is due to cashback (either based on how much you've wagered, how many fun tokens you have, rp bonuses and other things).

You might get more targeted and faster help on their discussion thread though: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=320959.0
316  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trouble with Trezor model T on: December 21, 2022, 01:57:19 PM
If it's still under warranty period, I'd just return it to get a replacement.
Even if the issue isn't occurring most of the time, that can still cause issues in the long run; not to mention the hassle of mistyping your pin.

I'd agree with this if it's still under warrenty. It might just become annoying after a while and could get worse too.

You mentioned another issue that could be another possible cause: "humidity".
Yes, the Model T is similar to the old touch screens, so humidity may be the reason, because there is some humidity on the screen sometimes.

But if humidity is the reason, in this case the Stylus will not work either when there is humidity on the touch screen!! Isn't it?

It's fairly likely the issue will still persist once you get a stylus if it is caused by dust, debris or humidity. I think they're designed to be detected better than a finger but there's probably a limit on that you'll still end up hitting. But it might depend on what sort of screen it is.
317  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trouble with Trezor model T on: December 21, 2022, 05:23:39 AM
There's a stylus linked from here for $9 (I included the forum link just in case there's any additional tips): https://forum.trezor.io/t/stylus-pen-for-trezor-model-t/1129

Another issue you haven't considered might be something on the screen or another thing touching it. If I use my phone when it's raining sometimes random buttons get pressed, I don't know how the Model T works but if it's like the old (either cheaper or more robust) touchscreens that can only take in one input at a time then it might put the touch at the midpoint of the two presses instead of where you actually pressed.

1 and 2 are likely, 3 is a maybe and 4 is a definite no. There can't be communication issues between your laptop and trezor causing this imo as all of the decoding is likely done on the trezor if that's where you're inputting.
318  Other / Meta / Re: Who Pays Bitcointalk.org (org) Domain Fee Per Year? on: December 20, 2022, 11:25:30 PM
The forum doesn't host itself too, it's hosted by aws (amazon Web services) afaik and also has protection from cloud flare. Both of these being run on the forum will make the fees paid for domain renewals seem extremely tiny.
319  Economy / Economics / Re: Employers are Deflating Salaries in Job Ads to keep Pay Down on: December 20, 2022, 11:21:51 PM
Surely it's only bad employers that have to worry about this (that could be most employers) but realistically if you get on with your team and think you're valued (even if it's things like being given an extra day off after taking holiday - especially for things like weddings and funerals), you might be more likely to stay where you are.

The employers this sort of thing should concern are likely the ones who aren't great to work for anyway and have a high turnover of employees (normally) and a few that stick that end up being the ones to keep the company going.
320  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Looking for an Easy, Non-Custodial Wallet for my parent's friend (who died) on: December 20, 2022, 02:42:27 PM
There was a discussion on the best mobile wallets for android to replace trust wallet that could be found here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5429009.msg61448407#msg61448407

I would recommend using separate wallets for each coin (for better security - stopping random notifications) but that might be unnecessary.

Best wallets for individual coins imo would be:
BTC - electrum, bitcoin wallet for Android
Eth - metamask
Xmr and ltc I'm not too sure as I rarely use them now.

I think if you're going down the apple route, you're going to need to use multicoin wallets.
