Update from MintPal
13/07/2014 4:19 PM Announcements
Please read the entirety of this post.

A few hours ago we were unfortunately the subject of a successful attack against the exchange. Our investigations have shown that whilst our security was breached, VeriCoin was the target. We would like to stress that VeriCoin and the VeriCoin network has not been in any way compromised. We have worked to secure the exchange and the withdraw process from any further attack.

As it stands at the moment the following applies:

1) We lost a considerable amount of VeriCoin in the attack, however we have been working with the VRC developers and all major exchanges to hard fork the coin at a position before the attack. This will allow us to retrieve the stolen coins and facilitate all withdrawals. We are also working with various exchanges to accommodate any losses they may encouter as a result of the required fork.

2) We are currently processing withdrawals for all other coins.

As I'm sure you will appreciate, our support channels will most likely be very busy over the coming hours/days so please bear with us.

We would like to personally extend our thanks to the VeriCoin developers and the other exchanges who have pulled out all of the stops to ensure that your VRC funds are safe.

Time to Buy!! Nothing to do with Vericoin security, but rather an attack on mintpal itself. Catch those falling nuggets of gold  Cheesy

Been watching vericoin over the last few weeks and I'm very impressed with the development in such a short space of time. This coin is showing to have extreme potential, beyond any potential I have seen for a long time in any alt coin.

But keep it real and steady guys...Dev team, don't overwork yourselves!
Investors, don't over-jerk yourselves!

I'm in, good work guys.

304  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: THE DIGITAL PRECIOUS METAL | Cryptogenic Bullion | CGB on: July 05, 2014, 11:08:38 AM
Good work guy's, nice one. Will send a few CGB to the foundation when I get to my pc.

Been looking into physical bullion, with the possibilities of getting something set up where you can exchange your physical bullion for CB,  and vice versa. Without actually needing to send or receive any physical bullion in the process....unless you really have to hold it in your hand.

Take a look at this site for example www.bullionvault.com

Sooner or later sites like this will be accepting crypto to trade for physical bullion on a massive scale. (If they are not already??) With our name, and resilience,  we stand a chance if we get in early to corner some of this inevitably huge market.

What u think?

Brief explanation about buying physical bullion, and where I got the link http://www.learnmoney.co.uk/advice/advice-18.html

Hey Killiz! I am all for trading CGB and physical bullion. A few things to note:

  • It has to include delivery and physical acquisition by the customer. We cannot endorse a centralized store of value which can report having more metal than it does.
  • As part of a service that a CryptoMall can provide, this could work quite well. In person trust and usage of safety deposit boxes for example may work well on this smaller scale.
  • Remember, we are thinking decentralized *everything* here as much as possible. Trust of people is for profit motivated schemes, we trust in the physics of cryptography here Smiley

Hey PSD.

Yes I see your reasoning about actually delivering, receiving and 'holding' physical bullion, it makes sense. Although for everyday folk and physical bullion traders, this is not such an issue.

If cryptos were to become mainstream, as it is quite obvious now that it may well be. Every day folk won't give a toss about decentralisation and being separated from the state and so on and so on.......

I haven't seen much enthusiasm toward the goal of associating CGB with the 'on the ground' project. Although this is a concept that I agree with, I see no value in directly associating CB with it primarily, but if you
must personally persue, and take CGB along with it, then so be it.

Cryptos are about to hit mainstream, big time! If we don't adapt to the majority way of thinking and not some sort of rebel libitarian way of responding to current situations then we are going to remain a libitarian outspoken minority.
We have to act like sheep, and follow the sheep before us. If we see one turn in a certain direction and the rest follow, then we must catch up and be that forerunner sheep.

We need some development occurring. Publicity is fantastic, but we need some meat and bones to sink our teeth into, not some libitarian dream that some folk have splashed across our faces.

Wow this has been an awesome series of posts just now guys Cheesy

The problem we are encountering might be that I have not had a chance to fully develop the ideas onto paper, though much has already been said in the development workshops.

Let me try to break down the role of CryptoTown and its relationship with CGB, perhaps it will make a bit more sense.

  • CryptoTown is a project to develop a suite of resources and tools for spreading the adoption of cryptocurrencies.
  • The project is small right now and needs help to build up the resource library and official guide.
  • No one is in charge, in that, if a cryptocoin community wishes to participate, there is no structure in place to limit that.
  • Coin Neutral. Limited to nonbiased, objective information and resources from respective communities.
  • CryptoMalls are independent. This decentralized structure has implications reminiscent of cryptocurrency use itself.

CGB's interest in the CryptoTown project:
  • Connect with CryptoMall volunteers to develop/program real world CGB application. eg. businesses testing CGB Wallet software and reporting on business integration issues.
  • Encourage businesses to accept CGB based on the array of resources available to them which supports CGB. eg. a paper wallet tutorial for CGB developed by CGB community and made known to the CryptoTown project. Makes it easier for businesses to learn how to store CGB.
  • We are a smaller, but more dynamic community. It's projects like this which help to show that we have a larger, better thought out view, without the narrow profit focus.
  • No commitment is required. The Cryptotown Project will develop over time with help from a diverse range of crypto enthusiasts. As it matures it will only become more useful to cryptocurrency adoption. No single coin community will be responsible for this progression.

So what has changed? We are simply focusing our efforts on adoption of cryptocurrencies, in order to make the environment in which CGB can thrive, come to be. It's tough to think of a more potent goal. Progress has been made so rapidly that there is little time for anyone yet to understand (aside from those working on it) what CryptoTown really is, let alone document it. I hope this post clears up how this is a huge opportunity for CGB.

This post on the /r/CryptoTown sub might also help

Quote
What qualifies a coin community to be considered as backing CryptoTown, is the level of commitment from both dev team and community. As this is a coin neutral project, we intend to list many as possible and gather data sheets in a standard manner for ease of comparison.

So far the CGB Core Team and community have provided material development and discussion to this project. CGB backs CryptoTown. Any community which backs CryptoTown will have a link to their coin placed on the /r/CryptoTown sidebar (and on the website once it's launched). This should help even a small coin which can eloquently convey their coins fundamental advantages. We have reached out to the Doge community with positive results, and will be engaging other communities shortly.

Software developers are in most urgent need. Part of getting crypto out there is going to be creating simple sofware for business to print out invoices or receipts, with qr code for payment details to customer. This is just one among so many ideas which will require programming skills. We intend to use real world CryptoMall deployments and Business client experience as the test ground to adapt the software tools as needed.

Documentation and editing are very welcome for any areas or material which could use it.

Promotional material is also in demand, any kind of media. I have created most of the work so far, but I am not that great with photoshop. A link in support to the CryptoTown subRedit on official coin websites or subReddits would go a long way. A short analysis of why your favorite coin deserves attention would go a long way.

When thinking about promoting your coin by supporting CryptoTown, remember that its ultimately up to the public as to the awareness and use of each coin. Simply agreeing to accept a coin will not guarantee use of that coin. Also keep in mind that businesses, ultimately, have the final say in which cryptocurrencies they wish to accept. The best thing you can do for your coin is to assemble all possible stats, pros and cons, etc, and a good case will stand on its own merits.

Most importantly: we need pioneers, like Mark Blair in Australia, who are bringing experience to the methods described in the Official Guide. We are trying our best to make the guide as practical as possible, but in the early stages, it will still require quite a bit of ingenuity. If you wish to start your own CryptoMall, please don't hesitate to speak with Mark, or myself (papersheepdog) about answering your questions as part of a development workshop.

Also these comments I don't really understant:
Quote
If cryptos were to become mainstream, as it is quite obvious now that it may well be. Every day folk won't give a toss about decentralisation and being separated from the state and so on and so on......
How will it become mainstream? Through adoption (CryptoTown). Every day folk know what inflation is when they see it. They might start to wonder if this centralized printing press is so hot after all. This is all just natural progression.
Quote

We're talking absolute laser focused development. Forget what the latest altcoin has, lets make things happen outside of the internet. The libertatian thing you may have picked up from Mark, he likes to mention it sometimes Smiley. I, on the other hand, simply do my best to frame this stuff as close to reality as I can. If it looks libertarian, so be it. It's simply sustainability in my eyes.

I don't see why people should not use any crypto to buy physical bullions and let it be stored somewhere else, that's their choice. Basically it's the same as using an online wallet service or storing coins on an exchange, not that I would recommend it but many do so. CGB fits the trade as soon as the price is more appreciated. If a company wants to buy a large load with CGB but needs to buy 25% of all existing CGB's for it... that's not realistic but when marketcap is beyond US$25 mil then he only has to buy 0.25% of all existing CGB's and that could happen more easy  Shocked

Fractional-reserve banking is not a good idea though if that's what you meant.

That sort of service would only have a real impact if it was offering some advantage over other methods of acquiring bullion e.g. Specially Trusted storage of phyz PM, anonymous end-to-end transactions etc..

Excellent point Majormax, and the root of this particular discussion is this: Bullion dealers are just businesses. Let's get them into the fold utilizing aspects of the CryptoTown project. Let's say the CGB community starts a global CryptoMall for precious metals dealers who accept crypto. This is powerful stuff.

Keep the ideas and questions flowing! Smiley

papersheepdog, Canada

When first reading about Cryptotown I imagined a town in the middle of nowhere with a totally self sufficient crypto-economy. I realise now this is not the goal of the project, but instead aims to educate and introduce people and businesses into cryptocurrencies.

www.Yell.com is an example of a Directory for quickly finding businesses and services in your local area. www.Coinmap.org can be used to view the location of places where bitcoin is accepted in your local area and around the world.

This information from coinmap can be used to start to build a directory like Yell for cryptocurrencies. Starting with bitcoin.

When I get a couple hours spare I will list the businesses in the UK accepting bitcoin. Currently a little over 200 on coinmap.

If a directory like this could be made then it can be used to introduce businesses into cryptocurrencies, with a listing on the site and guidance on doing it.

I love this, haha!

Great news and it's wonderful to see the positive image presented for CGB!
Going to read the article later, so I hope that I have not spoken too early  Wink

You'll need to sit down with your coffee to get through it, but its a foundational document for both CGB and CryptoTown.

Some other good news:

307  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: THE INVESTOR'S CRYPTO | Cryptogenic Bullion | CGB on: June 18, 2014, 06:56:29 PM
As a small time miner, and a long time CGB holder, I recently came to a personal belief as to why the value of older (!) crypto currencies are so low, CGB included.

While we have an initial large payout to get miners interested and secure the currency, the buzz and rewards function as incentive to keep the currency alive. Granted, many alts have been launched and died within a week for various different reasons; secret premining, Pump&Dump, non-innovative me-too coin™ etc

As the block reward is higher, the miners will show a larger incentive to mine the coin. This interest decreases with the block rewards and the miners will jump on the next new coin™ With these reduced block rewards, practically every altcoin from one year ago has had a great decline in value, or am I mistaken? It appears to be the larger block rewards that keep the coin going, paying the miners to stay with the coin.

Now the mining phase is practically ended for CGB and we are hoping that investors will take an interest in CGB as a stable and secure investment. The question is why should they do so? If I as an investor would place money in one or more crypto currencies, would I not choose a currency with a better track record, or something that has features that Bitcoin seems to lack? One of the main features I liked about CGB was its proof of stake. The PoS part of CGB is not a unique feature anymore in the cryptocoin scene, and there are even many 100% PoS coins out there now.

I guess where I’m going with this is the fact that the PoS alone does not seem to attract new investors as we all are hoping for. The price is now lower than what it was just after launch, so there is all the incentive for someone to scope up a big bag of CGB for cheaps. The price decline for the past 6 months has not proven to be a stable wealth builder like a traditional interest fund or the likes.

I am not planning to sell off my investment; I still believe and hope that CGB will show its strengths, but at this point I would not put my money in CGB as a new investment. Even though that there are many new exciting ideas going ahead in our community, wouldn't any cautious investor just look at the price development for the past while and place their money elsewhere?

Perhaps we should look back at what gave CGB its initial boost among miners and the community, why was the perceived value of CGB so much higher then, compared to its stable phase now? Are changes needed? Does CGB need the mining help to bring back its values from the 5 mBTC days?

If we are not planning on any changes on CGB itself, than we should be open to ideas like merge mining, altpool investing in CGB and use the strengths within the mining community to help us build a stronger CGB!

+1

Great post.

What we need is a renewed vibrance within the community. The one thing CGB is lacking is an active community. An active community is the strength of any particular coin.

The miners have left the scene, but what do the majority of miners do? They sell. What we need to do is to educate these miners, who are knowingly mining a longterm worthless coin, only because it is profitable at that moment in time, to put some of their profits into CGB as an investment.

The POS reward mustn't be increased above 2%, I agree with myself and  PSD about that Smiley It should be looked at as merely a POS security which only adds 2% max inflation, nothing more. Less is more!

I keep reading how CGB needs more services. Do holders of physical bullion demand this? CGB is digital bullion, and should be treated as such. Simply a store of wealth, to be exchanged for a more widely accepted currency as and when needed in the future.

Hey, Killiz!

Feel free to laugh out loud: I doubt I'll be able to manage photos or vids for a while. I live in a farm house so far out in the Australian bush that I can see an emu out the window right now. And I am vision-impaired. And I get only a trickle of Internet. Can't figure out how to load a photo on this site.

Mark, Australia

Lol I can just picture you now all tangled up in a ball of antena cable, with an aeriel held up in an outstretched hand, furiously clicking a refresh button with the other, while an emu curiously peers at you through the window with one beady eye and a cocked head.

Sounds just like the life I often dream dream of Cheesy

Hey PSD Smiley

About the flyers, I've no clue where to start with what to put on them, maybe just some basic info about cryptos, some addresses to sites of interest, a menu, some pictures of pizzas and Chinese food...........hmm..... hold on a minute, I would chip in a bit of my hard earned Fiat, or maybe a few crypto coins to a takeaway, to go towards their menu costs, in exchange to have a website address added as advertisement on a takeaway menu, aaand have it delivered for me. Introducing the takeaway owner to cryptos at the same time. Two emu's and only one stone!

Good news indeed!

What we need now is for our followers/readers and holders to find their voice and get active in this thread and over at reddit in preperation for when followers of NXT/DRK/DOGE and LTC come poking around here.

CGB seems to attract the silent type, the silent partners of an investment opportunity.

We need everyone to get EDUCATED get MOTIVATED and get INVOLVED.

Thought i try and track a a few deposits of CGB i've made in the past to cr*ptsy but i've only made a few so am limited to following those txs, but I found this interesting address that has had a large amount of CGB moved to it recently and has a balance of 180001 CGB.
Now I could be mistaken but i believe its a crypsty wallet that will be seen to stake at a later point in the year. The tidy 20k inputs are from addresses that can be seen to have staked previously and have held large amounts of CGB. Maybe its is a mid year tidy up (after all the previous splitting from PoS) for the "owner" Cheesy

http://blocks.gotcrypto.net/address/5SHzAQkDJ6w9fH6c7rC8C5Bxiu1pyMLbcs

Maybe if some others could track a few of their historic deposits and see if they end up at same addresses on http://blocks.gotcrypto.net/, it would give a better idea of how much CGB is controlled by the exchange.  This address alone contains over 18% or nearly 1/5 of total CGB that exists. Shocked

I would bet it is cryptsy's address. It makes sense to me for them to have most of their deposited CGB stored in one address, to stake it every 30 days, sell off the interest and be done with it every month.
312  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: THE INVESTOR'S CRYPTO | Cryptogenic Bullion | CGB on: June 06, 2014, 01:27:52 AM

higher % stake does not reward existing holders at all (creates dilution which decreases each units price), it actually screws over everyone who bought in because of rarity (ie knowing the market cap would stay under 1 mil). instantly evaporating any trust.
yes coins do it in panic mode as a bandaid approach to save a coin, but only those who either directly want to bail or honest people with very little real understanding of economics, market dynamics and/or the trustless system btc introduced.

Existing holders get all the stake. It is up to them to sell or keep it. There is no 'dilution'  whatever the % stake is: Dilution would only happen if a new group or a limited group got additional stake.

100% pa would be the sort of stake that would get new 'investors' interested, and they would have to buy from existing holders, who would dictate the price. There is very little supply on the market.

Sorry Majormax I disagree. I'm a holder of CGB because of the low inflation. It is after all Cryptogenic Bullion not Bunny Rabbits.

CGB now trading at PTOPEX!

Nice one, we are definitely beginning to spread our wings. Soon we may fly.

Just a reminder. CB was released when only a handful of crypto's existed. Bitcoin, Litecoin, Namecoin, PPCoin, Novacoin, Terracoin, Feathercoin and a couple more not worth mentioning. Just before the onslaught of copy/paste coins we have all endured over the last three quarters of a year or so.

CB is withstanding the test of time, and is growing into a serious crypto-currency.

I am sure that soon, CB will be realised as one of the major players in the ever evolving crypto-currency scene. It is a hidden gem. As a virtual commodity CB has no rival. With its low inflation, low mining reward, extremely active development team and solid community. CB will inevitably be known and trusted as a secure and reliable store of wealth. It is only a matter of time before we catch the attention of mainstream media and become one of the top crypto-currencies in the world.

There once was a man with sore bunions,
Who thought he could cure them with onions,
He ate a full sack,
Fell flat on his back,
and woke up with Cryptogenic Bullions.

"Why?" said the poor man. "Why does nothing ever go right for me?"

"You have to make something of yourself" said the rich man. "You only get out of life what you put in, you have to work hard for it."

"Nonsense" said the gambler. "Life is just a game of chance. You are dealt a hand, it's how you play that hand, which determines if you win or lose"

"Its fate" said the fatalist "Everything is written in stone, you can't shape your future, just as much as you can't change your past"

"No it's God" said the religious man. "God guides you through your life, all you must do is ask, and God will provide"

"BULL-shit" said the CB investor. "What is most valuable in life is the things that are hidden. Things that are there that most do not see. That is where you find true value, value which only a rare person can discover"

It is with great pleasure that I announce the most recent updates from the Cryptogenic Bullion development team!

Client Version 1.1.6.6:
-   Updated splash screen
-   Updated logos
-   Updated checkpoints
-   Fix to getbalance vs listaccounts discrepancy

Download here:
http://www.gotcrypto.net/#download

Work has already begun on Version 1.1.6.7 scheduled for release in about a month. Below is a sample set of the features we are looking to add in the next client:
-   Visualization of PoS staking and estimated time until next reward
-   Button for unlocking wallet to stake instead of having to go through the console
-   Update checkpointing code

Lastly we have been working on a complete rework of the website (design and content) which will be released shortly.

Stay tuned!

Great ideas in the works for CB.  Smiley

So what else needs to be done. Any great ideas around?

I would love to see CGB be implemented in more systems.

For example

- A Dragon's Tale with CGB's, the maindude only wants to run it with BTC's I think.
(http://www.dragons.tl/) DON"T LOSE YOUR BTC THERE, it's purely gambling.
- An Open Sim server hosting pay2play games.
Like SecondLife: http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Main_Page

Would be great to have a game with crypto's properly implemented into it.
Bitcoin would be the gold, litecoin silver and penny's the pretty useless bronze. You would maybe mine different ore's to smelt into copper bars, unobtanium, argentum etc. Making an alloy out of a combination of these would make many other coins along with cryptogenic bullion, which you would take to a vendor who only accepts CB for his line of epic gear  Cheesy

I'm sure we will see something like this in the not too distant future, I hope so anyway.

Hmmm, what I just notice, we have some very important info missing in the OP.
I was looking for the CGB blockexplorer (the one with "top addresses") and headed to the opening post, but noticed we have no such info...no blockexplorers, no "services accepting CGB" and most importantly, the wallet download is missing.
Not sure if this info was there, but has bean removed due to the recent events, or if we never had this info posted.
But that is definately something that has to be changed Wink

On a norther note, bter.com is having a vote for new coins that they want to ad next week! I already requested CGB to be added to there poll, but until now they have not added CGB yet (though the admin has not been online since my request, maybe he will when he comes online). I think it would be a good Idea if other people requested CGB as well.

Request CGB to be added to the "new coins poll" from bter.com:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=502363.20

Thanks mate, just put my request in.

Will put a post on reddit aswel.

Edit: New client is about ready for release, and our new website is under construction. All that is missing will be replaced, and more, when all this is completed. Be not concerned  Wink

Could CryptogenicBullion (CGB) please be added to the poll.

With a new development team, many truly exciting things in the works, and new client and website soon to be released. CGB just has to be on the list!
