301  Economy / Lending / Re: will someone at least trust me with a .5 bitcoin loan to get started on: January 18, 2013, 04:01:05 PM
Have you read the confidence loan topic? Lenders aren't likely to loan money to someone who is just trying to build trust. 0.5 BTC is easy to pay back and doesn't really imply trust for future transactions.

There are plenty of sites that give out free BTC if you're really just looking for a small amount to get started with. Or you could just as easily use BitInstant to purchase a BitCoin or two.

Nice to meet you too. Welcome to the forum! Smiley
303  Other / Meta / Re: timestamps in red for necromanced threads on: January 18, 2013, 02:01:19 AM
I think it would be easy to switch the color of the "new" icon that appears next to new posts from blue to red (like you suggested) for new posts that have been submitted in threads that haven't been posted in over a certain period of time (say, a month or two). Was that the kind of idea you had in mind? I think it would help a lot.

Perhaps add a link to the Free Bitcoin Guide?

Yes, of course. In fact one question I need to add is "Where can I find more information?" where I'll list other resources like this forum, the wikis, and I'll add the Free Bitcoin Guide there too.

The site is not finished. I want to keep it simple, but maybe add in some pictures and video references too to liven it up.

The WeUseBitCoins video would probably be perfect Wink
306  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Legal Tender Laws & Bitcoin on: January 18, 2013, 12:28:40 AM
Essentially you're taking someone to court who owed you money and offered to pay you. The court would look at the value of the contract and would probably say that the value is owed, not the specific payment; it's like when a debt collector is allowed to seize property from a borrower to pay back the debt.

Since the guy in your example is offering payment, the courts would probably just tell you to take it. You'd have a case if the borrower wasn't offering to pay anything.
307  Economy / Lending / Re: 1 BTC Loans Offered on: January 18, 2013, 12:15:31 AM
Is this not standard procedure? Its what I did when I got a loan. Tell me one reason why you shouldn't take precautions like that.

It's not that it's not smart. It's that even legitimate borrowers probably won't bother to do all of that for $15, especially when they can find someone else to lend it to them with less restrictions. I would rather have the protection on the loan myself Wink
308  Economy / Lending / Re: [EDU] How to spot a scammer (Read this before lending your coins!) on: January 17, 2013, 04:01:45 AM

Looks like furrycoat could be fully identified as a scammer. He gave himself a loan, apparently.

I did list that thread in the OP since his request fit the typical scammer template.  However it's going to be a stretch to label him a scammer since nothing was lost, and I really wasn't expecting anything to be in the first place (see post #11 in that thread).  New accounts lending to new accounts often have an unusually high rate of success.

OP fits the description of a idiot. Posting my legit BTC loan on your scammer thread? Something you and some other retards of this forum need to understand SouthernComfort IS NOT ME.
This accusation was put against me because we did not use the address in my signature. I HAVE MULTIPLE ADDRESSES.

Understand now?

Well, I wasn't sure before, but now that you've called us all retards? Now I believe you! Wink
309  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Full List of BTC4Amazon Services(New Service Added) on: January 17, 2013, 03:40:07 AM
Just did a quick gift card transaction with BTC4Amazon. They were very prompt in their responses and quick to send the gift card to me. A+! Smiley
310  Economy / Lending / Re: [EDU] How to spot a scammer (Read this before lending your coins!) on: January 17, 2013, 12:23:31 AM
This thread is to identify people who post like a SCAMMER, and unfortunately you fit the template to a tee.

The pattern looked to me like a snapshot of the confidence loan topic.
311  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can Trading Options In The Stock Market Make You A Full Time Income? on: January 17, 2013, 12:04:09 AM
Is it possible? Sure. But possible and easy are two very different different things, and you'll crash and burn if you don't know what you're doing.
312  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bryan Micon's Butterfly Labs Scammer Investigation including Josh Zerlan on: January 16, 2013, 05:30:58 AM
Hey BFL FAN BOY!

I'm just trying to understand wtf this is about -- is this an issue about BFL fan boys versus people who don't like BFL? Or if BFL is scamming?

It's been said a couple of times that this is not a "court of law" and that legalese or line-by-line responses are sperging. There is another side to that coin. It's not okay to waltz in here and say that someone is a scammer because you don't like them. That's why I asked for a list of facts earlier. In response I got a bunch of facts like "Sonny committed a crime 10 years ago" and "Josh is a big fat jerk". I'm sorry, I should have said, facts related to whether or not BFL is scamming.

Anyway, no one said your facts had to prove anything. Relax bro. It's okay to hate someone. You have a right to hate people and talk shit in a free society.

LOL I like how you are telling me "how things are".

Thanks but no thanks. No one asked for you input. But keep trying to sound intelligent.  Grin Grin Grin

But your input is clearly invaluable and a service to the community Tongue
313  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bryan Micon's Butterfly Labs Scammer Investigation including Josh Zerlan on: January 16, 2013, 05:11:44 AM
If your "facts" aren't meant to prove anything, then what's the point of throwing them around? I've never seen someone put so much effort into not making a point.

Dipshit,

If I list the facts. People can make their own decision to believe what is true and what isn't. I'm not here to tell people how to think nor what to buy or not.

that was the point.

Listing facts is only irritating if you're the one who will get heat from it if people think about the FACTS and come wanting answers.

Having a point and proving something are two different things. If I make a point, it doesn't necessarily prove that it is true.

My point is to list the FACTS as they lay. Whether you, your mama, or your grandma believe the facts is not of my concern.

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Then why did you post them as a reply to someone looking for facts to help back up scammer claims? I'd hate to fathom that you were actually trying to sway someone else's opinion after that lovely reply of yours. Wink

Someone wanted to stick to the facts. What's wrong with that. So I listed some facts.

Your point? How about you PROVE that I was trying to PROVE something that BFL was or is or other?

This should be interesting. Prove it.

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Facts to sway his opinion, as you seem to do quite a bit on the forums Tongue Why, that means... that means you were lying to me earlier!  Cry

@21after2,

Let's get more facts.

1. How much in preorders do you have with BFL to date?

2. When were those orders made?

3. When do you think BFL will ship?

4. Why do you think BFL kept delaying?

1. None. I don't mine Bitcoins. I don't think my on-the-go laptop would hold up well Wink
2. See 1.
3. I don't think they'll ship. I believe I said that earlier.
4. They don't have anything to ship. That belief of mine can be gathered from what I said earlier.

You still have not proven intention. Keep trying though. =)

I'm supposing to be proving something? I was just stating my observations. It's up to others to make their own decisions as to what is true and what isn't.
314  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin at shops on: January 16, 2013, 04:52:23 AM
I think most people use their phones for transactions at shops. I would assume a shop would set up a QR code for customers to scan and send payments to, with a wallet open on the register computer to show that the payment was sent.

As for the confirmations? Afraid I can't answer that. I feel like I read an answer about that once here on the forums or on the wiki, but I don't remember where.
315  Economy / Services / Re: Juggalodarkclow's Escrow Service on: January 16, 2013, 02:24:46 AM
Juggalodarkclow acted as an escrow for a transaction of mine. He always replied to my messages on time and released the funds for the sale very quickly once the delivery was confirmed. Huge thumbs up Smiley

I recieved the Nes and games today and everything works great considering the age of the system and carts

Glad to hear it! The NES and games were professionally cleaned (save for Castlevania), so they should be good to go for a long time Smiley
320  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bryan Micon's Butterfly Labs Scammer Investigation including Josh Zerlan on: January 16, 2013, 01:56:09 AM

Just based on that alone if I was the one running a scam investigation into BFL I'd stick to the facts and be a little plainer about what I had against the company personally.

Fact: BFL collected preorders 7 months ago and projected October 2012 delivery.

Fact: BFL is associated with Sonny V., who has a criminal record of mail fraud.

Fact: Delivery of BFL ASICs was pushed back to November, December, January, and now end of February.

Fact: BFL DID NOT bring a working prototype to demo at CES thus proving they don't have a working prototype to showcase their specs the list on their site.

Fact: Josh gave no guarantees that the timeline he posted a few days ago will hold up. (even given all of the 4 months leeway so far)

Fact: Those who have preorders with BFL are biased.

Fact: Josh/Inaba is the worst PR for BFL they could have in place. Who cares if people troll his ass. He is a public figure that represents BFL which tarnishes the name Butterfly Labs.

Your first four facts are perfectly fine points. The last three are more subjective to me, and they don't necessarily prove anything.

How is #6 subjective? I think those who have money with BFL (still) despite all of the writing on the wall are biased. They wouldn't leave their money there if they didn't want to believe ASICs would ship. Hence the word BIASED.

#5 is true. He didn't give any guarantees. How is this subjective?

#7 Josh is horrible at PR. Just look at how he cusses at anyone who disagrees with him? Even attacks people's kids in the process. Once he talked about Micon's daughter that showed how big of a scumbag he is. That is a FACT!

LOL

#6 is subjective because you generalized the entirety of pre-orders as lovingly defending the company from a biased standpoint. Did you ask each and every one whether or not they think BFL will deliver? I've seen a few people on this forum who are upset with the company and the pre-orders they haven't received yet. Just because you don't agree with one side of an argument doesn't mean you can't understand it.

Your #5 just means you don't think he'll stick to the schedule he posted. It's not a "fact" you can use to prove he's lying. I don't think they'll ship on that schedule either, but I won't say that's a fact as much as what I think will happen (or, essentially, not happen).

#7 is your opinion that the guy is a scumbag. Even if he is, that doesn't mean the company is a scam. Plenty of companies have bad PR representing their names, but it doesn't prove anything substantial.
