Hudes says something about 140,000 tons of gold in vaults on Hawaii. Any merit to this?
There are a few things in there that I'm skeptical about. Like the Jesuits controlling China, and the mention of the state governors going after the corruption sounds a bit like this meme that was going around last year: http://www.knowthelies.com/node/7274

The allegations of corrupt dealings at the World Bank, though, are consistent with reports from other whistleblowers.

For what its worth, there are about 2500 tons of gold mined in a good year, and about 165,000 tons mined throughout human history, so no, there aren't 140K Tons on Hawaii.
3022  Economy / Services / Re: Design a physical Bitcoin - 5 BTC bounty + design credits + free physical coin! on: October 09, 2013, 01:28:56 PM
Keep in mind that the lines are not perfectly perpendicular, there is some slight trapezoidal shape to them and they are wider at the base.  This is necessary due to the nature of the cutting tip of the CNC die cutters, and it is actually preferable as it slightly reduces the "sharpness" of the coin.  Sharp coins are not good.  Most pockets are made of fabric which can get sliced up by sharp metal, and the last thing you want is your coins cutting holes in the pockets of their owners and escaping.  Wink
3023  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: October 09, 2013, 01:15:39 PM

If the US defaults bond prices will go up if what happened when the US was downgraded is any indication Smiley What should happen is that PMs get more expensive.

I hold Bitcoin to get me rich (or as I call it, financially independent of labor). I hold no gold because I have no way to assign a value to it and it's mostly an inflation hedge. Stocks suit me much better for that purpose. I cannot precisely put a value on Bitcoin as well, but I'm sure that is way WAY higher than it is today.

This may seem counter-intuitive.  But it is what happened, the bond prices went up, and rates down.  Possibly this was because of the way that it was pre-pre-announced then pre-announced and so the reaction was fairly well choreographed.  It was made to seem that if the US T-bill wasn't safe than nothing is safe.
None of the central banks really want the US Dollar to fail suddenly, they seem happier with the slow decline.  If there was a missed bond payment, and technical default (resulting perversely from a congressional effort to cut spending and reduce debt and improve the bond values) who knows what would happen, but I suspect it wouldn't be more bond buying.

So apparently gold is to precious to sell. Well what happens if someone demands it?

another tinfoilhat theory about lack of volume: what if 90% of trading (up until recently) was by a very small group of criminal traders, who have been caught or scared away from the major exchanges?

amirite, or amirite?

I suppose if you are picking numbers out of a tinfoil hat 90% is as good as 4%:

3026  Economy / Economics / Re: Slovenia may seek aid for banks, central bank says on: October 08, 2013, 06:24:17 PM
In the currency war's race to the bottom, neither China nor US want the Euro to fail.  The Euro's don't want it either I suppose due to the chaos they'd have to deal with, so the Too-Big-To-Fails are all playing this game of pick-up-sticks trying not to be the one that tumbles the pile, while each pulling out pieces for themselves.
With each central bank's fiat currency increasingly backed by other central bank fiat the game gets increasingly more complex and interwoven.  Every once in a while there are these little games played that devastate a nation or two where a bank and its associated economy fail, and the centrals place bets on which will be next and use political and ecoomic influence to push their bets chances.

Our little Bitcoin project hums alongside all of this, the innocent bystander, and a place of refuge for those weary of the games.
My heart goes out to our Slovenian friends.  I hope some more of them reach the Bitcoin safe-house in time.

3028  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin legality across the globe on: October 08, 2013, 02:51:21 AM
I live in Canada, and I never knew the government took bitcoin as an actual currency o.O
Legal =/= Legal tender.

The legal tender laws are not such a great thing for all people.
It is how refunds may be given in the local legal tender instead of the original payment currency that was tendered in accepting the offer.  (The legal tender are good for all debts public and private)
3029  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin legality across the globe on: October 07, 2013, 10:06:12 PM
The US should not be green. Even though its technically legal, bitcoin businesses there are constantly being harassed by the government right now.

Sure, it is just not because they are using bitcoin, it would be similar for other currency exchanges.  There are regulations for money transfer for all currencies, that the US has given bitcoin currency status makes it "legal", though being "legal" is not necessarily always "better" depending on what that means for regulatory issues.
The geographies where the law is silent on the matter may have an easier time with start-ups, but possibly a harder time dealing with more mature businesses.
All these "is it legal" questions when brought to authorities on the matter, are essentially begging for more regulation.  Maybe you feel Bitcoin is big enough for more regulation?
3030  Economy / Economics / Re: Re-visit the question: What is bitcoin's value backed by? on: October 07, 2013, 07:22:28 PM
Eisenhower Standard!

No I don't think Eisenhower would concider Bitcoin as "Standard".

Gold is still a physical commodity, but Bitcoin isn't a commodity.
But that's also not neccessary, most of the other attributes apply.

Gold was also used for hundrets thousands of years. Bitcoins are used 4 years now.

But Bitcoins have also advantages:
- Fewer costs in storing
- Fewer costs in transporting

The two complement each other very nicely, and now with the Bitcoin Specie pieces, also very easily.
Each of us are a part of the decentralized bank, and each of us can back Bitcoin's value with our hard assets, including gold and silver.
3031  Economy / Collectibles / Re: New Bitcoin Specie by the makers of New Liberty Dollar on: October 07, 2013, 05:05:43 PM
You know what would be awesome, to have a little hole on the top side of the coin so you could like make a thread trough it and wear it and show people you have bitcoins Smiley

We have available such an offering, it isn't a hole through the coin though (that would not be as nice), it is a clear holder that turns it into a pendant.
We can include these with any order for 0.02 btc each.  It is just the holder, you would still need a suitable chain.

They are kind of a nice way to give it as a gift, holiday ornament, or keepsake.

Primarily we would like to see these used commercially, but we do love our collectors Smiley
3032  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitgild.com - European based precious metails / gold bullion dealer on: October 07, 2013, 04:38:48 PM
Bitgild is also the very first online retailer for the new Silver Bitcoin Specie pieces.  There is more information on these here.
We encourage all our customers, especially our EU customers to buy direct through Bitgild.  Their service is excellent and they are certainly among the best and most innovative place to get your gold (and now silver).  They deserve your support, they will earn your trust and loyalty, and we strongly recommend them.
3033  Economy / Collectibles / Re: New Bitcoin Specie by the makers of New Liberty Dollar on: October 07, 2013, 04:34:14 PM
The website only shows the Liberty Dollar, not the Silver Bitcoin.
Yes, this is true.  It was mentioned in this context because it does provide a contact form.  We are as yet a bit reluctant to offer direct retail online yet as we are in negotiations with other online retailers to provide this as a retail offering direct to consumers.  Primarily we focus on design, manufacturing, production and wholesaling because this focus allows us to create the very best, and also gives the retailers the opportunity to make the best profit at the retail market.

This strategy has worked very well for us in keeping quality and production value high.  If it turns out that these discussions become protracted we expect that we will offer direct retail in competition to the existing retail marketers.  We feel it is in all our best interests to not compete with our market channel even knowing that those that are buying from us directly are making a LOT more per piece than we do.  (Wow, those eBay prices are unreal!)
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=silver+bitcoin+msrp

However, we expect to continue to offer retail purchasing to this bitcointalk.org community in gratitude for the support and dedication to our common mission of extending the Bitcoin economy.  Anyone buying from us and selling or trading profitably to others we consider an ally and a partner, and so are reluctant to push them out of the market by offering our pricing directly to the broader market.  We are only a little surprised that the discussions are taking as long as they are, but it is what it is.

Fundamentally, a virtual currency alone is incomplete without specie to accompany it, and our mission is to create the best complementary specie pieces for worldwide use.

Anyone here is of course welcome to enter that market place of offering these in retail channels to the markets they know best how to serve.

Now is probably a good time to announce this:

http://www.bitgild.com/ is offering Bitcoin Specie direct online retail through their excellent site, and listed prominently on their home page.  We welcome them and encourage our EU customers to get these directly through them.  This is their first offering in Silver and their first non-government produced pieces, so CONGRATULATIONS TO BITGILD for taking this positive step forward in extending the Bitcoin economy!

To buy, you can contact me through this forum, or through email, or the website posted in my profile here.  If we have already done business together, you probably also have my phone number.
In the (hopefully not too distant future) this will become even easier.

This is an ongoing project, not a one-time endeavor.
We expect to be minting continuously, and with continuous incremental improvements all around, ease of ordering, ease of use, etc.
There should never be a shortage of the standard Bitcoin Specie pieces.
3036  Economy / Collectibles / Re: New Bitcoin Specie by the makers of New Liberty Dollar on: October 01, 2013, 05:29:43 PM
Yes only better :-D
Cringly repeats the criticism of Bitcoin not being backed in this http://www.cringely.com/2013/09/30/doubts-bitcoin/ but we will prove that a decentralized bank can provide more robust backing for our currency.
everyone of us holding at least one specie piece is backing Bitcoin.
3037  Other / Meta / Re: should chart-buddy be allowed to post in wall-observer thread? on: October 01, 2013, 08:25:40 AM
IMO CB should post every 3-6 hours, not every hour. Or maybe he could post more frequently when the volatility is high and stop pestering us when the market is boring.
staring at the wall can be boring? I <3 chartbuddy.
3038  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Assault weapon bans on: October 01, 2013, 08:10:23 AM
A difference of opinion doesn't make you right.
Its not an opinion, its a fact. Bitcoin is built on, and i equivalent to, democracy.

If by equivalent you mean: "made less trustable when a majority is ruling", then yes it is a fact.
3039  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Build this and I will come on: October 01, 2013, 04:19:44 AM
Or....

Dont accept PayPal for bitcoins...stop trying to find a way to get around that fact.

It has to happen for it to work. Period

You have to be able to trade for debit card payments, paypal, credit cards, bank transfer. That is the only way.

If you strap an eagle to a dinosaur, it may not benefit either, but think about it in other ways, all of these can exist, it doesn't have to be a direct tether, there may be another path, don't give up.
3040  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: CoinTerra (2TH/s) at a discounted price (Dec/Jan)! on: October 01, 2013, 03:31:26 AM
It looks like a straight-up group buy, and for the privilege of organizing it you get a re-seller relationship.  I'm on the fence.
With the difference that I took all the risks by putting money upfront to an untested company, while you were asked only a verbal commitment or an escrow which ensures that you can get your money back anytime.
I was transferring your risk to me, and you were about to get the best deal out there.

In any case, I decided to ask a refund.
Not worth this effort for just a few couple of orders.

Thank you for your time.

I didn't mean to minimize your effort, only to point out that you weren't getting enough out of it to make it worth it to you.
If you start again with a model that lets you be comfortable with the risk, let us know please?
I was on the fence not because of the deal you offered, which is generous, just needed time to research the product.
