3101  Economy / Economics / Re: 'We don’t have enough' lithium globally to meet EV targets, mining CEO says on: September 10, 2022, 11:05:12 AM
Are you saying what I think you're saying?  And by that I mean are you suggesting that the US might find a reason to invade Afghanistan again in order to pillage their lithium?  Either way, that was the first thing I thought when I read the blurb about them having so much of it.

If any of those fairytale resources would be indeed there, not like the 1 quadrillion tons of gold discovered in Ghana there would have been at least attempts at mining them in 20 years, right?
If the USA would be that keen on exploiting resources in invaded countries we would have seen them mining them, and they wouldn't have retreated, right? You would have had only US companies exploring oil in Irak and nor the major oil fields run by China and Russia.

It's the same story, if a country gets into conflict with the US suddenly there are quadrillions of trillions of resources that the Americans want, when they retreat from there suddenly it's a different story, they went there ...for popcorn.

You honestly have a point there. There has never been a time America has 'helped' without an incentive

Weird how countries that have been helped by the US and have not sunk bank to being religious zealots are doing quite fine, let's look at South Korea and Japan, countries that have been "helped" by Russia and China on the other hand....

A friend also told me that there was also an announcement that traffic lights would also go through a rotational black out? This winter, the joke about turning off Christmas lights as a means to stop the wasteful use of electricity, and as my favorite debate against "wasteful POW electricity usage", is going to become true. I believe for the first time in Bitcoin's existence, we will see the total mining/hashing power scale down.

It can't be the first time since the first time already happened:
https://cointelegraph.com/news/crypto-miners-in-texas-shut-down-operations-as-state-experiences-extreme-heat-wave

And it was clear in the hashrate
From the start of June at 216.54 EH/s it dropped to 198.15 EH/s only to recover at full speed the moment the heat wave was over by growing to221.72 EH/s the last adjustment.

And you can read about that directly from riot:

3103  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏇 Horse Racing (UK & Ireland mainly) odds and predictions 🏇 on: September 10, 2022, 10:46:32 AM
AFAIK Ireland is using the parimutuel betting system(aka tote betting) but what about UK precisely?
Bets are only made through bookmakers at fixed odds or we can also bet against other bettors in a pool?

The thing that matters is on which site you bet, I use betfair as bet365 is really messy when it comes to amended results, if your horse is declared a winner after the race you still lose, if it's promoted to winner yous till lose.
So betfair uses fractional fixed-odds, you put your bet at a fixed odds and that's it, you can bet fixed odds for UK , Ireland or US.

I kind of dislike parimutuel sites because at least in my experience it's heavily manipulated, I saw pools raising 10x times in a matter of seconds and then not moving a penny, kind of fishy, probably from bookmaker to bookmaker.

Where can we find the current odds of the pool of Irish bets and of UK ones if it exists there please?

I use oddschecker.com for the fixed odds, for tote betting you can go to tote.co.uk which covers again both Ire and UK races.

Two interesting races at Leopardstown today, but I'm sitting those out, it's again O'Brien fielding more favorites and as usual there is a mess of it, I've learned the hard way not to bet on or against his horses that have who few races, and in the Champion Stakes is Vadeni race to lose, maybe an 1-2 with Luxembourg for fun.
3104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fiat Banks Conspiracy Against Customers. Bitcoin is the Best Option on: September 09, 2022, 04:55:21 PM

After I've answered honestly believing your story, I find out now that all this is most probably fabricated using images from 2020 and the pandemic??
See: False Info : Fiat Banks Conspiracy Against Customers. Bitcoin is the Best Option

What you say about this?

Made up story to catch a few merits?

According to a saying, "what happened to someone does not affect others" and also "experience is the best teacher". The images presented the banks I went to withdraw the cash. They are models to the banks. I still insist very strongly that the story which I presented here yesterday was real. Those who are saying that ATM opens before 8:am should come to my locality and see by yourself. I will not argue with you.

NeuroticFish I have never and will never fabricate story. If because of the pictures you said the story is fake. The images are models to the information.

Good, then lets' hear the details
What bank, what location, so we can go there ourselves and check if the ATMs are really closed.  Grin

Now the worst of it all. ATM is no longer 24/7 hours. The closest ATM point in my locality closes 8pm and reopens 8am. The reason is best known to them.

Gmaps link? I'm really curious why you're asking people to see "the reality" with their own eyes but you don't provide any info.
Not even the name of the bank, which is a bit weird.

Even though Banks are own by individuals, Banks are capable of providing customer friendly services, there are some time you visit banks and see the crowd all over every corner of the banking hall and when you see the cashiers and customer service attendance, they are just few, sometimes either two  or third that are attending to more than two or three hundred customers. That made me to make on a research in my school days. And I found out that, They are using that method to reduce cost. They don't want to buy more machines and employ workers to dispatch the crowd.

Doesn't make sense, rather than having to employ people they can easily add another ATM, those are way cheaper than any worker, even if we talk about well below average wages.

However, the fact the ATMs are not working 24/7 is unexplainable for me. That part I simply fail to understand. One thing would be they don't replenish them often enough (lack of personnel), but.. are they saving energy, or are they so afraid of thieves?! (the costs are imho small, so cost cutting alone doesn't explain that)

Never heard of such a thing in my life, I know of special ATMs that are meant for all the possible transactions including deposits and currency exchange to be locked inside the bank and only available at banking ours, but normal ATMs with a schedule? No way!
3105  Economy / Economics / Re: US congress set to consider legislation to BAN proof of work on: September 09, 2022, 04:09:16 PM
Two things here
It's a proposal from the White House IF some things don't work to try and persuade congress to issue legislation against PoW. Which will happen if ever like in a decade or so, maybe the democrats whon;t be in power by that time at all.

But at the same time, comparisons like this are simple, let me be truly honest, stupid!

I was wondering if the US will also consider banning:

  • Transportation
  • Commercial and domestic use of Fossil fuels
  • Industries
  • Electricity production
  • Land use and forestry

Let me ask you a simple question, how long will you and your family survive if PoW is banned? What will change radically for you?
Let's now compare your life with no transportation, no industry no usage of fossil fuel. How long do you think the world economy will last?

Yes, there are really stupid things that burn a ton more energy than PoW, I would love to see some numbers comparing how much energy GPU mining for ETH burns compared to the GPU editing clips for youtube and TikTok, but for god's sake, don't compare with stuff without which the world would collapse in a month. Those comparisons are just as stupid as the whole idea of banning crypto mining.

Although banning POW in the US would not mean the end of Bitcoin in that country, it would not be good for Bitcoin globally. The influence that country has on the rest of the world would mean that other countries would follow this example, especially the EU, where there has been a lot of talk lately.

The influence will be minimal because all the countries in the EU and in east Asia that might take further steps already have high electricity prices and the number of miners here is just minimal. I was talking to some friends who are in GPU mining and they've said that even without the Ethereum change the returns are just ridiculous. If I were to mine on national grid prices I would be listing my miners now on eBay in a second. Cheesy

Only two countries would matter Canada and Australia, both of which have like a ton of energy that can't go anywhere.
But overall yeah, IF this actually happens it would be bad.
3106  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏇 Horse Racing (UK & Ireland mainly) odds and predictions 🏇 on: September 09, 2022, 03:52:28 PM
Straight to the point, with the disclaimer that most of the times when I give advice in betting it's a disaster, and the only reason why I'm on a positive balance is constant betting on jockey trainer combinations and a lot, I mean a LOT of luck in the last moments of a race.  Cheesy

This Sunday, three races I'm eager to see

Cazoo St Leger Stakes
Everyone is going nuts for New London, 4/5, I guess yeah, the highest rating, proved himself twice in a row quite impressive but at those odds, it's no fun so I will go with an each way on Haskoy, unbeaten filly, probably still learning but has shown it knows how to finish a race, look entertaining enough for a bet.
Last race of Haskoy (she's near the rail)
https://www.racingtv.com/videos/watch/horse_racing_replays/405877-british-ebf-sir-henry-cecil-galtres-stakes-listed-1

Coral Doncaster Cup Stakes
This is Trueshan race to lose, he did break his record on a different ground but is still an obvious favorite, odds are ridiculous so better focus on the second place, Get Shirty and Coltrane, maybe with the latter coming up on top.

Coral Flying Childers Stakes
Two favorites with different styles of racing, The Platinum Queen 11/8 who likes to race from the front, and Trillium 2/1 who came  last to first twice in row, so completely going nuts, go for a trifecta with Trillium, The Platinum Queen and Crispy Cat. Why Crispy Cat? Because I like her name!  Grin Also placing a bet on the first two, with obvious names.
Trillium last race, got to love how it did it
https://www.racingtv.com/results/uk/402349-goodwood/27-Jul-2022/1500
The Platinum Queen, second last race, just as impressive
https://www.racingtv.com/results/uk/402351-goodwood/27-Jul-2022/1645

Coral Champagne Stakes
Two 10/11 and 15/8 favorites and a three horse race, two horses unbeaten in the last two races, and the third was beaten less than a length by the favorite so this might be quite entertaining but I'm not finding anything to bet here to date.

Not looked at Irish Leger Stakes yet in detail but I saw something like 5 6/4 and lower favorites so, risks without much return..
3107  Economy / Gambling discussion / 🏇 Horse Racing (UK & Ireland mainly) odds and predictions 🏇 on: September 09, 2022, 03:51:16 PM

Sprinter Sacre and Frankel - if you don't know these horses....the are other topics for signature quotas

This topic is about racing and gambling, so I would love to see posting people who know about gambling and how to do, it although I would love also discussions about why a horse is a favorite in this race, ground, trainer jockey combinations,  beating of a horse who was a previous winner, weight advantage. I will only focus on Uk and Irish racing, maybe throw in a few speculations about other Grade 1 races in Australia, US or Japan but I will stick to what I can see live and not stay till 5 am to watch a race.

So please no such thing as New London is a favorite, I'm sure he won because he won in the past.  Grin

Unfortunately, I don't have time anymore to play on the exchange which is where the real money is being made but tips are always welcomed.
Most odds will be taken from betfair or paddypower.
You can watch replays for free :

https://www.racingtv.com/videos/horse_racing_replays
https://www.attheraces.com/replays

Live is available on Betfair on the betting race, I don't know any legit free streaming service that covers all the races as I have the premium sports package but if anyone knows please post it. For other internet stream services, there is a ton of them but so full of ads and crap I will not recommend any to date.
3108  Economy / Economics / Re: Energy FUD!!! on: September 08, 2022, 05:55:20 PM
Looking at the recent hashrate increase there's still a distortion due to the Jul 2021 hashrate drop though, ie. a lot of the growth of the last 365 days is presumably hardware coming back online after having been relocated. So compared to last year's peak of ~180.66 EH/s we are currently only up ~27% at ~230 EH/s [1]. Accounting for the improved hashrate and efficiency of current mining hardware [2] it actually looks more like there's been a decrease in deployed hardware, as old ASICs become deprecated and are replaced, leading to slightly less energy consumption overall (assuming miners are still trying to make a profit, which seems likely). This would also fit with current Bitcoin price declines and increased energy prices.

[1] https://www.blockchain.com/charts/hash-rate
[2] https://www.asicminervalue.com/efficiency/sha-256

Peaks are quite irrelevant, as consumption in those statistics are generalized for the entire quarter.
So if we take the 188 Twh for the Q3 IN 2021:
https://bitcoinminingcouncil.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/2021.10.19-Q3-BMC-Presentation-Materials-Final.pdf

It covers this period:

which is around a 100Exa average.
Compared to this, in this whole last quarter, we have the lowest value at 202Exa, so at least a 100% increase in hashrate for the lowest point compared to an approximate growth of only 33% in energy consumption, to me is a bit of wishful thinking to consider that much new gear has been deployed when the prices for it were though the roof the whole period, we actually have reached periods of 3 years ROI to some s19 versions.
3109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 4 Bitcoin Traders Arrested Due To Illegal Trading on: September 08, 2022, 05:01:20 PM
@stompix, nah actually those might be the devices they were using to do the scam. Usually such scams happen in rented apartment or some cheap quarters without any documentation.

I know those were the devices used but really, look at the situation, they grabbed the mice and keyboards and power cables and put them on a  table, I understand the mobile phones and the laptops as proof since obviously there are way too many phones for 4 individuals, but the power cables? Why not grab the chair and table they were sitting on while doing the scam? Why not grab the sockets from the wall and the copper wire which enabled the scam also?
My point was only on the stupid show-off, like when you have a murder and you proudly present a knife in the picture, of course, labeled "knife" since not everybody knows how a knife looks. This is just stupid!

You saying that got me thinking of the early days of these cat-fishing scams running rampant. With those emails people receive saying they can get money sent to them from a nigerian price. Atleast those sending the emails wouldn't get caught.

A lot of them get easily caught, the only problem in finding them is that they reside in countries where they don't really give a damn about scams, it's not about the traceability but the share unwillingness of the police to do something.
I'm pretty sure these guys would have got away just as easily if, and I'm 100% sure we will find just a few weeks later, woundn't be spending money like crazy and buying tons of stuff while being probably unemployed. What's stopping them from leaving Bangladesh, going into a foreign country with BATM, withdrawing or dealing on the local market and getting all the fiat they needed? They don't even need to come back!

So that you better understand the words of Otto von Bismarck "never fight the Russians."  Grin

Weird
Napoleon the third didn't get the memo when it beat the crap out of you kicking you out of Crimea
Katsura Tarō didn't get the memo when you suffered the first defeat of a European power by an Asian one
Wilhelm II forgot about it when it kicked your asses to Siberia in ww1
Józef Piłsudski probably was unable to read back in 1922

I love how your history starts with Napoleon and goes straight to Hitler, then forget the rest.

Is your own life so sad you need to convince yourself others have it worse to justify how you live or something?

That's what I was telling you about the so-called EUSSR, if you had lived truly under the USSR, you would know that this is the norm, the only times we were hearing stuff from the west were the ones when there were riots in the US and we had hours over hours of radio shows telling us the US is going through a civil war and victory was at hand, soon we will have two loaves of bread!!!!

Just look at Europe. France is the only country where the energy prices haven't gone up recently.

Seriously, stick to the gambling board where everyone can have as many opinions as holes, over and over you prove you know shit about Europe so how about you just stop worrying about others?

3111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Netflix banned Bitcoin, Human Rights Foundation Donates. on: September 07, 2022, 04:48:13 PM
I took information regarding netflik ban Bitcoin and crypto ads from BitcoinArchive twitter. I think BitcoinArchive which has over 1 Million followers on twitter is unlikely to share FUD news against Bitcoin.

If you took the information from there why didn't you use the whole title?

Quote
Netflix has banned #Bitcoin and crypto related commercials on its new ad-supported subscription.

Also, bitcoinarchive despite having those subscribers is hardly a trustable source, they do everything for clicks, investing stuff, and blowing things out of proportion just to gather exposure, if you spend 10 minute reading their tweets you would be wondering why BTC is not at 2 billion and why is there a single person in the world still using fiat.

I continue to read each response as my learning material in understanding about Bitcoin.

The best thing to do is either edit the topic title which is clearly wrong at this point or lock this all together.
3112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fiat Banks Conspiracy Against Customers. Bitcoin is the Best Option on: September 07, 2022, 04:31:56 PM
~snip~
All these nonsense can never happened in bitcoin space. Really I don't think such thing will happen in crypto ecosystem. Since bitcoin uses p2p, I can use my fund at anytime. The only thing that can hinder my transaction is network.

Everyone who uses CEX (centralized crypto exchange) can find themselves in the same problem as any client who has money in the bank. Any centralized option that provides the option to store/transfer Bitcoin is therefore no better than any bank. Unfortunately, this is something that many do not understand and live in the false belief that they are safe, and at any moment their funds can be hacked, the account blocked or the entire service can be unavailable.

Hihihi, and that's what OP's doing.
Quit ironic, his previous message just before this one looks like this:

My suggestion is that, if your country has banned bitcoin and you are interested to use bitcoin, it is very simple. Just go to Binance, Remitano or any other web or app that vendors are buying and selling BTC.

So forget P2P, his first advice was to trust another bank, just that it's a crypto bank and not a fiat bank!
I love when all those people just criticize banks and tell stories about how you can't withdraw your money from them only to stuff their precious coins on some same-level centralized entity.
3113  Economy / Economics / Re: Energy FUD!!! on: September 07, 2022, 04:17:01 PM
I'm not an expert and I can't say if it makes sense that the energy consumption has increased so much, or if it's photoshop, given that the source is a telegram channel.

Here is the Q2 report, 253 TWh:
https://bitcoinminingcouncil.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/2022.07.19-BMC-Presentation-Q2-22-Presentation.pdf

And of course, it has grown, have you seen how the hashrate went up from last year?

It is great news, because it means more liquidity.

It's terrible news!
We have the largest exchange that claims to be all about decentralization and freedom and about the trust of users purposely sabotaging a competitor here. I can't believe that on this forum there would be a person clapping for this when it's a copy-paste move on how Microsoft wanted to kill Netscape not can I believe there are people defending this exchange when all that it has done to date has been lying its customers and even trying to hurt bitcoin by imposing fees 10x higher on the bitcoin chain that on their shitcoin.

3115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 4 Bitcoin Traders Arrested Due To Illegal Trading on: September 07, 2022, 01:14:01 PM
Ok, forget bitcoin and other things there is one more important issue here..
Am I seeing this right, on the right side there are a bunch of phones and on the left side of the picture, are those mice and a keyboard? They actually had nothing to pull on that table and said let's dump a few more pieces of "evidence" of the crime? Cables and keyboards?  Grin

but they are also being arrested because they are doing some kind of money laundering. According to the news, they first use some illegal and banned dating websites, then from other countries' people take dollars, then they convert those dollars into cash through the p2p method.

This is not money laundering, this is an outright dating scam, probably pretending to be some rich sexy asian girl that lures men into investing in some business she knows and runs, we've had tens of those scam reports here with tens of people still falling for it.

Okay so as what the Twitter post says here, if we can store our value in gold teeth, how much more if it's related to Bitcoin?

The whole thing starts with the wrong premise, unlike what the author claims gold was never used as a store of value in teeth, gold was used because of its properties, it's totally noncorrosive and malleable, and some do use it as a sign of wealth but never as storage. Besides a golden teeth crown is just a few grams even with your full mouth full of gold the entire weight won't be more than 100 grams, it's actually hilarious do you think you could chew with gold teeth weighing half a kilo? So in the best scenario, you would have about $4000 there, in most of Europe the procedure to get those will cost you triple that. No, we're debating something that never happened.

3117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin wastes electricity? - No - Heat your home with mining on: September 06, 2022, 10:58:23 AM
"energy rating" appliances are not based on efficiency of thermo dynamics efficiency limits.. .. its based on a arbitrary amount lower then that..  deemed acceptable to regulators as "efficient" in regards to known materials manufacturers deem cheap/safe to be plausible to use for consumer goods, by which making those products wont risk a companies liability or risk

So you're telling me running a 2kw appliance for one hour will burn 1kwh of electricity and turn it into heat and 1 kwh will just be .. transferred where? Do you actually understand the law of thermodynamics?
Energy can only be transformed in a system, it can't be destroyed, I suggest you write down an essay and send it to those idiots at universities telling them how you found a way to destroy energy and not create any other form.

scared to try? well lets move on to the other thing you are not sure of

It's far better if you try something else.
Buy a heater since you obviously never owned one, buy the cheapest smart socket on the market that has power readings and you're going to be in a for a surprise to what happens to that electric heater when it hits the built-in limits, magically the power consumption will drop to zero.
Because there is no way in this universe to run electricity through something without generating heat, again laws of physics, 6th grade.

you want to imply they must all be following some max efficiency of some natural law of all converting 2kw into Xmj of heat.. that no other product can surpass... you will prove yourself wrong instantly by test driving heaters..

Exactly!
There is a law, you earn it in the sixth grade, and energy can't be created or destroyed in a closed system.
Since the heater is not giving the energy in its pure form away, it only transforms it, there is no way (again laws of physics) for 1 kw to equal once 0.8 joules and once 78 joules, again, it's the law of physics.
3118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin wastes electricity? - No - Heat your home with mining on: September 06, 2022, 01:12:38 AM
for product safety and consumer safety. they are wasting that 1kw-2kw energy but not producing the maximum achievable heat out of that energy
meaning they are not even approaching the limits of physics

Can you please elaborate on what happens to that energy that is not turned into heat in an electric heater?
Because unless it is either magically sent back to the grid or it's used to electrocute everyone in the room it does break the first law of thermodynamics.

So do enlighten me on what happens to the "wasted energy" in a heater or elaborate on how you feed a system 2 kWh and you get out only 5 MJ or 3MJ and not 7.2.
3119  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin *is* a store of value! Satoshi implied so. on: September 05, 2022, 04:58:02 PM
I meant that literally. Some people actually believe that power utilities will kick miners off this coming winter to have spare power for everyone else!
This talking point is also reusable at the opposite time of the year - they say that utilities will kick miners off during the summer heat waves so that there's more power for ACs.

Not kick them out but pay them in order to shut the gear down to drop consumption.
And it's a fact, it just happened in Texas, and if you don't believe rumors, you might believe financial statements from Riot:
https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2022/08/03/2491455/0/en/Riot-Blockchain-Announces-July-2022-Production-and-Operations-Updates.html

Quote
“As energy demand in ERCOT reached all-time highs this past month, the Company voluntarily curtailed its energy consumption in order to ensure that more power would be available in Texas. Riot curtailed a total of 11,717 megawatt hours in July, enough to power 13,121 average homes for one month. Curtailing the Company’s power consumption reduced BTC production by an estimated 21% in July, but also significantly reduced Riot’s power costs for the month. By providing power back into the ERCOT grid during periods of peak demand, the Company estimates that power credits and other benefits from curtailment activities totaled an estimated $9.5 million, significantly outweighing the reduction in BTC mined.

Of course, it's voluntary but it's still about the money!
If miners would be faced with 40cents per kWh like in Europe they would be shutting also voluntary but a different type.

Sure, mining will be unprofitable in places like Germany, but the high electricity prices argue that miners have moved their operations to more favorable places.
The truth is, all miners will go to places with cheap electricity. Cheap electricity means the grids can sustain the miners and the rest of the population without overloading, making the much-trumpeted "economic collapse" non-existent.

And keep following the rules of the free market, what happens when the excess free energy there is no longer enough? The truth is that the current situation can hold only x amount of miners, that's it, there is no way for an infinite number, somewhere there is a stop and the cheap energy stops becoming cheap.

Back to ignore list. I wonder where you live though and how does your energy bill feel like with all the gas that is "stored"...

Glad to be there, it's like a badge of honor.

But since I don't think you have LoyceV on the ignore list and since he was the one asking you where your numbers about the fact that even full EU gas reserves won't last more than two weeks I think you owe a few answers o those that might still even think you're not just some Iranian propagandist who spreads only lies here.

But well, facts are not something you really want to discuss, right? Grin

Well, it's nice, at least someone is doing well. I also think that the European Union will be able to cope without the supply of energy resources from Russia and there is no need to dramatize the situation.

Be careful what you say, some FSB agents who confuse The sims for sims cards might not get your sarcasm, would be better to reinforce your windows rather than sell that wood to the poor freezing germans.
How many of those gas and oil industry CEOs have taken the final jump after providing the numbers Putin didn't want this year?
