3121  Other / Meta / Re: Is this even fair ? on: May 29, 2021, 05:27:40 AM
I know all this stuff but my point of view is that it should not be allowed anyone to delete so high number of posts even from self moderated thread.
As you can see that it was an ANN thread and removal of all the posts from an ANN thread smell a scam.
Users who create self mod threads are allowed to moderate it, the way they like, if used in an ANN thread it raises some red flags that other users should take note of. Scams are not moderated by the forum.

If you follow a project and its ANN is self moderated, where do you then post about it  Huh
By follow, do you mean wish to invest? If yes, you shouldn't invest in a project which self mods their ANN thread, without sufficient reasons. You try asking questions in the main thread as to why it is selfmoded, if no sufficient answer is given, warn other users there that it could be a scam, if you reply is deleted, create another thread in reputation and post there.
3122  Other / Meta / Re: ban appeal thread on: May 28, 2021, 03:59:42 PM
What can make your account to be unbanned is when people here agree and oppose the ban,
Public support can help, but it's not enough to get a user unbanned, the mods have to have a clear reason before lifting a ban, such as;
• If a mistake was made, a user could have copied their own post on another website, which doesn't count as plagiarism
• The user is a net positive to the forum and probably did not break the rules for personal gain (was not on a bounty or signature), here a signature ban for a while could be issued.

How do I get in touch with moderators?  Huh
An email address is usually included in a ban message. Send a mail to it, with your reasons why you should be unbanned.
3123  Economy / Services / Re: 1xbit.com signature campaign (open) on: May 25, 2021, 09:01:38 PM
And people really submit their applications to promote 1xbit? Guys this is a scam company that steals money from people.
We should stop hoping that users would always do the right or ethical thing, a lot of users do not really bother about the status of the campaign they're advertising or its effect on the community, the yobit campaign is an example that comes to mind.
Ixbit fix your pending issues rather than trying to buy over support of the community.

3124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: on-chain vs off-chain bitcoin on: May 25, 2021, 03:51:59 PM
I can go and get a bitcoin through blockchains (on-chain). Also I can go to any exchange (say, Binance) and buy one (off-chain).
Bitcoins bought on an exchange are on chain transactions. You probably mean obtaining futures bonds or similar contracts which do not give you actual bitcoins immediately, and these are not even classified as off chain transactions. An off chain transaction would be movement of Bitcoin's across lightening network.

What I get on Binance is probably just an IOU instead of an actual bitcoin. For example, is there a way to transfer that bitcoin from Binance to a ledger, without cashing out the position in Binance and buying one on-chain?
If you do not actually own any Bitcoin in a wallet address (*to which you own the private key) then you cannot transfer to any other wallet.
3125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you recommend staking? on: May 25, 2021, 03:48:30 PM
I tend to adopt more of a holder strategy so I do not stake.
If you are considering staking you need to do your research on it before making a decision, askband answer questions like;

• Would you prefer to stake on an exchange or the ETH platform?
• What's the lock period when your funds would be unavailable?
• Are there grey areas to be aware of, like taxes etc
• Do you think the value of the coin would have increased or reduced after the lock time?
• Would there be a supply shock?
And a couple more questions...

The decision and risk of an investment rests on you, so do your research and view advice as suggestions. Also, be wary of scams.
3126  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whales and the bull/bear market on: May 25, 2021, 03:38:58 PM
- sell 100 BTC at $40 000
- buy 100 BTC at $30 000
- profit = $10 000 per 1 BTC = $1 000 000

In short, do this only once, and you still have 100 BTC and $1 million in profit minus taxes of course.
This seems relatively easy, but it's a lot like gambling with huge risks involved. 24 hour volume sometimes would swallow a similar amount of Bitcoin would minimal effect. Market sentiments are what influenithe price most, if the bull is in effect, manipulations would have little effect, but in a panic season, people are more susceptible to FUDs.

In another scenario, a whale could also:
- sell 100BTC at $40,000
- the price rises to $50,000
- loss (if they buy back) = $10,000 per BTC = $1,000,000
3127  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be a counselor to newbies on: May 25, 2021, 03:33:04 PM
There are tons of good posts which would serve as counsel to new members (and old members alike, as everyone always has something to learn). Forum members should make it a habit to read up useful content. There are also lots of members willing to answer questions, so if you do not find a solution for an inquiry, feel free to make a post on it.
3128  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Large Transfers - best practices? on: May 25, 2021, 06:04:28 AM
Receiving multiple transactions with one address is fine until you spend with it.
It is fine, but could and should be avoided when possible.
HD wallets are designed to have multiple addresses and changes the receiving address each time a user requests for one; this is useful for privacy. If a user receives funds to 5 or 6 different addresses, it is impossible to know they are owned by the same person except (or until) they use all those UTXOs in one transactions. So a scenario where you send your address to someone for payment, they will not be able to spy into your balance.
3129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What the CEO of a Gold mining company has to say about Bitcoin... Doesn't ma on: May 24, 2021, 08:03:33 PM
There! I fixed the topic title for you

I just wonder, how will these fees become way cheaper than how much it is right now.
The price of Bitcoin transaction fees are not static and constantly adjusts to accommodate changes in the network. There's also no fixed fee (only a minimum), users pay different amounts on each txs depending on the size, wallet type or network activity.
3130  Other / Meta / Re: Ponzi schemes & Investor Based Games on: May 24, 2021, 03:35:25 AM
I have seen people being tagged as a troll and those who tagged them, they are part of DT, while Theymos clearly mentioned one should not use negative trust for trolls.
The DT system is not the most efficient and if you do come across such users who use the system wrongly, you should add then to your distrust list ~xxxuser. More members should get involved in the trust system to better understand how it works.

what the community believes should be the rules, methinks.
There is sometimes no general consensus on 'what the community believes. Also, what is believed is not always practically enforceable by the mods or admins

Imagine a new crypto enthusiast joins the forum and reads the rules, understands that account selling in allowed. He then buys an account and later gets tagged. Did the user made any mistake? I don't think so.
In the same line which the user understands that account selling is allowed they would also see that it is discouraged, this should prompt them to look around as to why and find out that it is frowned upon, then make their decision. Most users involved in this do not bother to check the rules about their actions.
3131  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Large Transfers - best practices? on: May 24, 2021, 03:22:29 AM
However, if the exchange made a mistake somehow, all the bitcoin would be lost forever.
Centralized exchanges are usually straightforward and errors at this stage usually comes from the user who is sending the funds and not the exchange, there are cases of users sending their cryptocurrencies to similar but different chains (such as litecoin to the Bitcoin chain).

Using DEXes ma be a bit more complicated as you're mostly responsible for your actions, but it can easily be navigated.
In both cases sending a small fund first as confirmation is advisable, you can also trade with that to know the fee structure of the exchange to avoid paying huge amounts on your transactions.
3132  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: May 23, 2021, 09:40:56 PM
We can focus on Leicester blowing their chance to qualify for the champions league two seasons in a row, but we have to appreciate the job the manager, owners and players are doing. Leicester were seemingly a one season wonder when they won the league in 2015 (IIRC). But currently, they are pushing their way into the elite group slowly and steadily. They finished 5th last year and this year also with 5 points more than last, very impressive for the club as they also clinched their first FAcup trophy.

I would love to see the signings they make next season and how strongly they can challenge for top 4 or maybe the league again.
3133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The next 5 years on: May 23, 2021, 09:17:15 PM
What problems will be solved, what problems will arise
For what problems would be solved; I believe the main hiccup using Bitcoin is scalability and volatility. Volatilois not much of an issue as it gives it speculative value, and I personally do not see it reducing in the future (in relation to fiat), we could at a time be seeing $5k candles +/- when Bitcoin hits a far higher price. There are lots of proposals to fix the scalability issue, so I'll expect something to change with the next five years.
For what problems would arise; my major concern in privacy issues. Centralized exchanges are getting more popular and this could pose a major privacy problem as governments seeks for ways to control the network.

When we talk about "bitcoin transactions", will we be referring to on-chain, or lightning transactions (i.e will lightning be more relevant to the avg user than on-chain)?
Off chain txs cannot replace on chain ones as it has to interact with the network at some point. Although, I expect LN to get more popular.
3134  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some tips for newbie. on: May 23, 2021, 09:08:23 AM
I didn't know much about the rules in the form when you told me about the post, so I posted it by mistake.
It's advisable to read the forum rules, but plagiarism is an act which is frowned upon in any educational discussion group as it steals others work and attempts to get credit for it, so one does not really need to read the forum rules to know that. The excuse of, 'I didn't know it broke the rule' doesn't really fly.

Newbies should read this thread and the included links.
3135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why are other cryptocurrencies not like Bitcoin? on: May 21, 2021, 07:33:30 PM
why can't they last and be like Bitcoin and what does it take for this unstable cryptocurrencies to be like Bitcoin.
Bitcoin has qualities which makes it valuable and resistant over all these years despite the predictions that it will crash, no other cryptocurrency has the exact same qualities or level of decentralization which Bitcoin has.

But the difference does not mean altcoins can not last for long; If they serve a distinct purpose any currency would be able to retain its value overtime.
3136  Other / Meta / Re: This thing with the accounts' farming has to stop... on: May 21, 2021, 07:27:30 PM
By the way, can members join bounties as Junior Members?
I guess they do. The forum system allows Jr members to wear signatures and most users in that rank would be willing to work in a bounty for very low pay, so I assume they still can. ICOs are no longer very popular, so the situation is very likely not as bad as it used to be.

Yeah, but how do they get those merits to send to their alt accounts in the first place?  I know merits are bought and sold, but that doesn't seem like a cost-effective way to rank up a string of accounts.  Last I heard, merits were kind of expensive.
The one merit to get to Jr member isn't that steep and those who wish to circumvent the system can either buy them or post to get merits; through giveaways or other means, if they're dedicated a string of accounts could be ranked up.
3137  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A Lesson from the recent crash: Central platforms are too dangerous on: May 21, 2021, 10:42:14 AM
there is something that people need to understand: It is not possible that this market grows without centralized exchanges
I also disagree here. Granted, centralized exchanges are more popular now with higher amount of money flowing through them, they are also quite user friendly cause they hold and manage your funds for you as opposed to DEXes.
I however think decentralized exchanges should be the future of cryptocurrencies and is the only way the sector would grow in the right direction. Also with more growth DEXes would get more efficient and user friendly.

Finally: If you are looking for fast profit from cryptocurrency market buy from the deep.
I agree with most of the points you made, but no one should expect "fast" profits from cryptocurrencies regardless of what levels they bought at. Growth takes time and every investment should be given time to grow, particularly after a dip.
3138  Other / Meta / Re: Post all your public data [EXPERIMENT] on: May 19, 2021, 08:30:16 PM
On my profile I have linked my work email, website (not my personal own), telegram ID, and service rendered. And I did not fill out all the spaces available for contact details. There is an option to include gender, age and location. One can also customize their signature space and avatar.
All these is enough space in my opinion for personal details, considering this forum is privacy oriented.
3139  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Asking for help from people who’ve been around for a long time on: May 19, 2021, 03:19:46 AM
If it was an online wallet, it was likely an exchange wallet, here's an article I found on 2015 about Bitcoin wallets - Bitcoin.com, it suggests about 3 exchanges such as Kraken, MtGox was also popular about a year before 2015, which was when it collapsed with user's funds.

Looking at those addresses, they were last active (receiving or spending funds) about 5 years ago, and had very few transaction counts between them; bitcoin wasn't very popular then, but this activity could indicate a low volume exchange or personal address.
Good luck on recovering your funds.
3140  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to join campaigns, To have a companions to success. on: May 19, 2021, 03:03:46 AM
In your first post/thread here, you mentioned about a friend advising you to use the search option rather than making a new thread for each request or inquiry;
Hello bitcointalk forum. I am a newbie and a friend of mine introduced me to this forum and also to cryptocurrency but he taught me about bitcoin first. He said that I shouldn't create a new topic and ask questions which he said that I can use the forum search bar instead of asking of it.
You've gone on to make more new threads when you could simply search for the information; It gives the idea that you are fishing for merits rather than trying to contribute to the forum. A thread is not a personal diary, you should only use it when you have pertinent information to offer or a request you couldn't answer using the search option.

If you intend to join a campaign,
• Read more on different topics,
• Find topics that interests you and focus on those,
• Don't focus on earnings or signature campaigns.
