You cant bring down all masternodes through DDOS, only those that have weak specs (low CPU / RAM), which means
that the hardware upgrade process that was introduced with update v0.12.1 will only be accelerated. It will end up making the Dash network stronger.

The only effect DDoS attacks have besides the weak one dropping off is that active masternodes (those with better specs) climb up in payment rank a bit faster,
they could get paid perhaps every 6 days instead of 7 days.

but that would be difficult as that video was made in 2016 and i got into Dash end 2014 (at the top of its very first and very large peak).  

At the time i was looking for altcoins to mine with my GPU and i looked at several altcoins before arriving at Dash.
Even at that time it became difficult to mine Dash as there were large GPU farms operational already and also the idea of having my computer
constantly on with 100% workloads on the GPU started to worry me.

In that period the masternode concept was still in its infancy, but i got drawn into it and saw the potential there as the original payment schedule
had masternode payments go up to 60% of the blockreward and that certainly got my attention.

Later on Evan Duffield, lead developer of Dash introduced us to the concept of having a decentralized budget paid directly from the blockchain, splitting the blockreward into
the 45% Miners / 45% Masternodes / 10% Budget. This was really a brilliant move as it gave Dash independence of budget, Dash could now focus on developing and attracting the
the tools and services which it needed for expansion. With the budget coming straight from the blockreward, the masternode owners also got the important task of governing that budget
by voting over those budget proposals.  

The primary reason though for investing in Dash was the feeling i could trust this dev-team and its lead developer, who gave up so much of their own anonymity while working on a privacy-focussed
cryptocurrency (Dash grew to be much more then that of course but end 2014, it was really just focussing on privacy). I got to know the dev-team by participathing on Testnet and saw first hand
the drive these guys all have .. the drive to really make Dash mainstream usable digital cash.

That is certainly true. This latest update was a bit more complicated as previous updates though as it requires more RAM for masternodes now (minimal of 1GB), involves installation of sentinel from github
(which runs alongside dashd) and it also includes setting up a cronjob to keep sentinel in sync.

It will be interesting to see when these 500 masternodes make the switch to v0.12.1 successfully. I imagine some masternode owners are looking right now for upgrade options (more RAM) for their masternodes.

The attention (positive and negative) that Dash is getting these days, can be found not just in this ANN thread .. it seems to have ignited a little fury in the altcoin discussion section as well.
Unavoidable i guess when you have one altcoin emerging as topdog.

Dash Evolution will introduce a third tier, where endusers (merchants/customers) will connect to the Dash network through DAPI (Decentralized Application Programming Interface). DAPI will be a first one of its kind in cryptospcace and will give Dash an important

These are a serie of videos from Evan Duffield (lead developer of Dash) explaining all the different aspects of Dash.

Those 500 Dash masternodes were actually kicked from the netwerk as a spork got activated that day that ruled that only 0.12.1 masternodes were allowed on the netwerk. Its part of Dash controlled hard fork into update 0.12.1

Anyone that still uses Dash instamine history from three years ago to attack Dash has ran out of valid arguments against Dash
and should really re-think their own strategy on how to attack Dash best.

It basicly puts them in the trolls minor league.

Dash has been in an uptrend for a couple of months now, resulting in a dramatic price break-out. Time will tell if this is indeed a bubble that could burst at any time
or if it is due to an organic rise.

Personally though i think Dash deserves that third rank on coinmarketcap as it kept developing its cryptocurrency from the moment it was launched till this very day.
Dash Evolution is also progressing nicely with an Alpha release scheduled for mid summer 2017. This will bring Dash massive scalability and a distinct focus
on the ease of usability.

Maybe some large whales are taking positions in Dash right now because of that, or maybe there is a stronger tendency to diversify into promising altcoins ?
