3181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the Mempool under a DOS attack? on: May 07, 2023, 07:24:09 PM
Here’s a conspiracy theory for you… What if Pepecoin was a way to raise a ton of money to fund an attack against Bitcoin while simultaneously attempting to replace it with a rising memecoin? Possible? Probably not, but for conspiracy theorists it might be fun to think about. Funding attacks with the promise of shared riches could lead to interesting consequences.
3182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: High Fee on: May 07, 2023, 07:21:41 PM
I would say the thing to do right now is to wait if possible to make your transaction. With nearly 400K transactions sitting in the mempool it is probably not worth the cost of a quick transaction for most scenarios. Who or whatever is causing this is spending a great deal on fees though so I would imagine they can’t continue doing this forever. If you can wait for the craziness to end things should return to normal.
3183  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can divorced couple reunite?? - please share experience on: May 07, 2023, 07:19:14 PM
I’ve heard that this can happen but I figure it is most likely the result of children or cost of living being much easier to handle as a couple. The old saying is that a relit cigarette never tastes as good. I’m sure there are examples of divorce making a relationship stronger, but I would be worried about the longer effects of mistrust.
3184  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 07, 2023, 07:17:18 PM
I’m a bit surprised we aren’t seeing more of a selloff considering how full the mempool is. Maybe the high fees are keeping people from moving their coins to exchanges to sell? I’d be a bit hesitant in the short term here until this market disruption is figured out. It does seem a little bit like the network is under attack.
3185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin network fee, worrying sign? on: May 07, 2023, 07:14:45 PM
I read that someone is intentionally spamming the bitcoin network, they even use 65$ to send 10$ worth of Bitcoin, this person has a goal that's my believe, no one on their right state of mind will be burning Bitcoin away like this, it's only a matter of time, this person will soon run out of Bitcoin. I've suspended every transactions for now until further notice.

What a dumb motherfucker he is if that is true. One man can't break the system, without pissing everyone else off first.

I haven’t researched what was behind it so I would just be assuming. I did assume it was someone minting a giant NFT collection or something. Things like this are probably good though. It will get large consumers of block space to be more efficient and whoever is doing it will lose a bunch of money showing others in the future it isn’t worth it.
3186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the Mempool under a DOS attack? on: May 07, 2023, 08:09:57 AM
I think it might be related to the recent “NFTs” on Bitcoin movement. People are minting these inscriptions on the Bitcoin blockchain and taking up blockspace. They are fine to lay high fees and wait longer than most traditional users sending Bitcoin transactions. I think that is more likely than Bitcoin being under attack, as it’s already been proven that it can’t scale on the main layer.
3187  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: May 07, 2023, 05:20:32 AM
I'm late!  Grin So sleepy yesterday.

Going for the Warriors today. I want to see if they can keep the momentum going after a win in Chase Center. Now, they will be in the Lakers' home Crypto.com Arena. They are now on lead so I got the handicap of -4.5.
If only I was early then I could've got a better deal with the Money line since they are the underdog this time.

It looks like Lebron will turn into a monster today attacking the paint most of the time because the Warriors don't really have a big man to protect it. I bet he will take advantage of that.

The Lakers are now dominating the Warriors after getting dominated in Game 2. It's a good start for the Lakers on their first home game, and if you're a Lakers fan, this game is definitely enjoyable. The Warriors could end up losing big time here, but it's not surprising since they have a very bad record on the road.

As of now, I think the series will be 2-1 in favor of the Lakers.

Betting against the Warriors on the road seems to have been the wise choice all year long. Tonight the Lakers covered the spread with nearly 27 points on top of it. I don’t know what it is about the Warriors on the road but they’ll need to get it figured out. This wasn’t even a far trip for them as this and their last series was played entirely in California…

Russell has started this game off on a tear. He made his first 3 3-point shots and 5 of his first 6 from the field to get the Lakers and early lead. They blew it though giving up a huge run to the Warriors at the end of the first. The rest of the Lakers are going to have to step it up if they want to stay in this game. Russell gave them a nice start.

Booker went crazy tonight for the Suns. Him and Durant both put up big numbers but his efficiency stands out as what made the difference in this game. I figured the Suns would bring it tonight. This win gives them a little life as the series is now 2-1 with the nuggets still in the lead. If the Suns can win the next one then they’ll have some hope after all.

It’s been a while since I’ve advertised it, but I can engrave on 1oz silver coins. Here’s a thread I had that shows some of my work https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1611837.0

I still have a couple of silver blanks laying around, but obvious if you wanted a lot of coins to give away you would be better off having a coin minted instead of having blanks engraved.
3191  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: May 05, 2023, 10:37:32 PM
I feel like we’re going to see Philadelphia continue to struggle against the Sixers. We’ve got about an hour until tip-off but I’m expecting to see a Boston victory. The second game between the Nuggets and the Suns will be interesting, as it is a must win game for Phoenix. With their season on the line tonight (3-0 would be a death knell) I think we might see them come out victorious, but I think they’re going to lose this series.
3192  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 05, 2023, 10:34:02 PM
Looks like we’re getting another run at $30K. Could we see it on this Cinco De Mayo? With the rally in equities markets I think it’s possible as investors are feeling pretty bullish that the Fed is going to have to pivot soon. With the US Government dumping tons of coins for the next several months, I think it will be difficult to sustain any moves above $30K at this time.
3193  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: May 05, 2023, 07:21:53 AM
What a turn around for both the Lakers and GSW in game 2. The Warriors just completely destroyed Lakers' defense. What's even interesting is that it does not involved Kevon Looney that much, GSW played small ball, quick plays, and very efficient in the 3rd.
AD also had a huge turnaround from game 1 with his poor performance today.
Overall poor performance for the Lakers in game 2, despite of the hot start from LeBron and Hachimura.
Let's see if they can bounce back from this blowout in their 2 game home stand.
I think the whole world knew that Anthony Davis could not play 2 games in a row and have the same result. He was insignificant in the game tonight. The warriors also changed the narrative from game 1 concerning free throws. Lakers only shot 17 free throws this time vs 29 in game 1.

The Lakers can’t beat the Warriors unless Anthony Davis is the most dominant player in the game. Nothing displayed this better than the first two games of the series. I’m not sure what exactly went wrong for AD tonight, but the Lakers had better make some adjustments and figure out how to get him going before it’s too late.

Bucks fire coach Mike Budenholzer after early exit
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/37424110/sources-bucks-fire-coach-mike-budenholzer-early-exit
Quote
The Milwaukee Bucks have fired coach Mike Budenholzer after the East's top seed suffered a first-round playoff loss to the Miami Heat.

"The decision to make this change was very difficult," Bucks general manager Jon Horst said in a statement Thursday. "Bud helped lead our team for five incredible seasons, to the Bucks' first title in 50 years, and into an era of sustained success. We are grateful for the culture of winning and leadership that Bud helped create in Milwaukee.

Holy sh*t! What is the Bucks's management thinking?
Coach Bud helped them win a championship in 2021 and now they are firing him just because of an early exit which is not his fault. Yeah, he made some mistakes, crucial ones, but there is no perfect coach in the league. In game 1 Lakers vs Warriors, I also thought Steve Kerr made a big mistake by not calling a timeout when they tied the game using Steph's own run. It's not about just one game mistake, it's about how he lifted this team up on his years of staying with them.
Well, their own loss and I think Giannis will have a difficult time once they find a new head coach for the team. Let's see if they will still be the number one seed after that.
Again with the "put the blame game".  Cheesy

Definitely a little messed up to fire him for a bad week he had right after his brother died, but maybe they’re doing him a favor by removing all of his responsibilities.

I’m surprised to see the Warriors playing small against the Lakers but I guess they figured they couldn’t beat Anthony Davis even with Looney playing well, so they’re trying to make him play their game.
3195  Economy / Economics / Re: Wind Power Has A Profitability Problem on: May 04, 2023, 11:23:31 PM
My personal experience operating a wind turbine is that the technology just isn’t there yet. When compared to solar there is considerably more upkeep and ongoing cost for much less output. I think as it currently exists, the only good use for wind turbines are to trickle charge batteries in remote areas or on boats to keep their batteries from dying when not in use.

Very cool service. This has been needed for a long time. I now hope that I remember to use it next time I have a photo to upload. Taking a quick glance at the site, it appears to be much more user friendly on my mobile than other options like Imgur, which I appreciate. I could see this becoming extremely popular here. Thanks for building this.
3197  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you had a time traveling machine, then? on: May 04, 2023, 02:57:51 PM
The question is, if you were from the future and had a time machine to travel back to 2023, what would you do?  I suspect I would think it is probably a good idea to buy ownership in as many companies as possible (invest in the S&P 500), and earn as much crypto as possible.  I imagine you would set up miners and make Bitcoin purchases as often as you can.  Maybe that would even be a curse, as you would probably miss out on your life trying to capture as much future wealth as possible.  If you managed to have kids, I bet they'd live a pretty cushy and spoiled life though.  Hopefully that would be your goal if you go that route.
3198  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: May 04, 2023, 02:55:02 PM
In game 3, the 76ers are only +1.5, which is nice.

To be honest, I like the spread too.

basically, Celtics needed that win, so it does not surprise that the difference was that large
but, next match will be different, 76ers have their break, and now they will try to secure some home wins, not sure they will succeed dough

Lakers and Warriors is really interesting duel, two teams that have waited for play-off to show what they are capable for, and winner could have some chance to reach Finals after all, exciting to follow this one

I agree that the winner of this series likely reaches the Finals.  The Suns look bad and the Nuggets I'm not sure have the experience yet, but they're also capable of reaching the Finals.  I think everything rests on Anthony Davis' shoulders.  If he can stay healthy and continue dominating, he's going to be a problem for the Warriors.  The next round would be a little more of a challenge for him, but I think LeBron will be able to get him by Jokic or Ayton.  I think we're likely to see the Warriors and Celtics, but only because I'm not confident that AD will be able to stay healthy and keep playing big minutes in the Warriors series.
3199  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if BTC won't see ATH again? on: May 04, 2023, 02:51:12 PM
I believe in BTC and the more i see post like this i feel even better, because this resits every year .... lol Grin Grin
It seems to me that one day there will be a breakdown in cycles anyway, because it turns out it is very easy to buy bitcoin before the halving and sell afterwards. One day there will be a manipulation which will panic on the market and most people will lose money. Statistically there is no 100% repeat of cycles, especially in such a manipulative market as cryptocurrencies.

I think the fall from $69K down to $16K lost a lot of people a lot of money.  It seems that we're now on the way back up and I personally believe that we'll see a new ATH sometime in the next two years.  As 5thangel says, this seems to be a pattern that repeats, although I would say every 4 years.  Bitcoin does need a "wall of worry" to climb if the price is going to keep rising, and it seems like that worry is coming and has already started taking a toll on other assets internationally.  The big question that remains is if Bitcoin is going to rally through a recession, or experience it's first break from the 4-year price cycle.

Some people would say that the International Court of Justice order to arrest Putin does not make any difference. However, it seems that it actually does in international terms. A large part of any diplomatic negotiation happens behind the scenes, if informal networking and talks that happen in the corridors, not over the table. Putin's out of it now and that is going to create problems - mostly for the RF.

South Africa’s authorities have asked Russian President Vladimir Putin not to come to the country to participate in the upcoming BRICS Summit, Sunday Times reports, citing sources.

Was he really planning on being there anyway?  I doubt it.  Especially after the recent attempt on his life.  Still, this sends a little bit of a message that his actions have consequences on the international stage so it's a good thing.  I'm sure Putin appreciates the heads up as well that if he were to go there would be trouble.  All in all, it seems this is a positive thing for everyone, unless Putin had some sort of desire to be there.  I suspect that's not the case, but you never know.
