Down to $25 spread now  I apologize for being anal retentive, but I keep hearing people use the term "spread" to refer to the price "premium" between exchanges. I thought that traders used the term "spread" to refer to the buy and sell price difference within the same exchange and the price difference between exchanges as the "premium"... thus the price premium of Chinese exchanges is 25 dollars higher than US exchanges. ...or is there something I am missing? Spread is the price between two things - it can be applied to many things, eg treasuries vs corporate bond is the Spread to Treasuries, spread between Live Pigs and Pork Bellies is "The Dead Spread", Premium is the price above market or additional cost one has to pay, eg new issue premium is the extra amount an issuer pays above existing stock to issue more. Both could probably be used , the Spread between Houbi and Stamp is X, The Houbi premium is Y or the BTCE discount is Z |

When there is a stock market crash and recovery, it may be a sign that the crisis has reached the turning point. But today's markets are manipulated to the core, and inflation is running rampant. average P/E= 7 or P/B = 1 are reasonable (currently both 5x higher).
What does that even mean? P/e and p/b? Price/Earnings and Price/Book Value both different measures at looking at shareprice valuations so basically for the average stock, the price of the stock (all the stock combined) is 35 as much as the earnings of [i assume last year] and 5 times as much as the book value (=networth) of the company? But realistically you would expect t to be 7 times the p/e because you'd expect your investment to pay off in about 7 years, or to be roughly the same as the p/b because that's what the companies networth is (and usually if a company is doing well the networth grows, so you'll make profit anyway? But somehow the stocks are blown up beyond proportion and it would take decades for them to pay off at this rate, if not something were to happen in those decades which causes the stock to crash? You can look at a company in many ways. What is its Balance Sheet worth (Book Value)?, most stocks trade at a slight premium to this, where stocks trade at a discount they are generally considered undervalued - or might be suffering from distress What is the value of future profits? An equity can be considered to be the price the market will pay today for the present value of all future profits of the company. ie the NPV of all future earnings, Companies that have low growth prospects trade on low multiples of current earnings, growth stocks tend to trade on high multiples of current or next years earnings as future earnings are expected to be growing at a large rate. In good terms P/E's and P/B's get inflated as the market expects a bright and rosey future - (prices in perfection) - in bad times the reverse. Right now the equity and bond markets (all asset classes imo) seem to be pricing a very rosey picture in the face of severe headwinds from the global economy, but that doesn't mean a crash is going to happen imminently just that one could or may happen, and (again imo) the more it is delayed by "policy action" the worse it will be when it comes. |

I thought the same. China market is only the reason for this bump. Correct. People need to get informed about the "magic making machine" in the US. They can (and they have) print money out of thin air. I'd say that the EU tax ruling is also a contributing factor. It is now tax free after all. still income tax and cap gains tax to worry about - just like any other asset |

Such high price would be unsustainable. To keep BTC on that level we would need hundreds of millions USD worth new investments every day. Where we could find investors with that much money?
At that price level BTC has replaced FIAT or is used as the go-between in so many transactions that global commerce is continuously buying and selling BTC in such volumes that tens of billions of USD in value are held at any one time on a rolling basis. |

when the posts like this one start you know its time to get out of BTC (or at least this forum) for a while. Dream on mon ami but try to stay a little bit real with your predictions, lets be happy if it stays above 300 and gradually and slowly grinds towards 400.
If we ever get to the point where 1BTC is worth close to even 1/20th of the number you picked you won't be selling for USD - there will be no need to - either the USD is worth a lot less, or BTC is in common use everywhere and why would you use a USD.

Where are you seeing that? At Bitfinex (Hong Kong)? At the Chinese echanges? Apparently Mavrodi's ponzi (and Chinese copycats) are most popular in China. (Recall the MyCoin ponzi in HK, earlier this year? There seems to be a rich "market" for such things there.) Chinese victims are of course going to buy their bitcoins on Chinese exchanges, during Chinese day/evening time. MMM doesn't need Bitcoin to steal money - Mavrodi has been playing this game for 25 years. He' currently active in China, India and South Africa at a minimum, but the website claims Thailand, Hong Kong, Philipines, Indonesia and East Africa as well. He's using bitcoin to transfer the money around the system - When the system cashes out we will see significant selling pressure.
Of course this is not the first MMM mega-ponzi, but this time seems to be different because he is using bitcoin to make victims all over the world, without himself being established in any country. This ponzi promises to be bigger, longer lived, and much more difficult to stop than the previous fiat-based ones. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am assuming that the payouts too are in bitcoin (or in Mavros); and the victims are likely to keep or re-invest their payouts in the ponzi. So I don't expect to see a "cash-out" any time soon. There may be a big bitcoin sale after the ponzi collapses, if and when Mavrodi and his asssociates decide to cash out. snip My assumption was of significant sell pressure when Mavrodi cashes out - but I take your point that this may be of significantly longer timescale than the previous FIAT based MMM schemes. I wonder as well whether Russia's recent legislation on bitcoin and its use may have been influenced by Mavrodi's involvement and MMM - the Russian experience was unpleasant to say the least and the state has a long memory |
