I don't know what could cause this error. In that case, you best wait for QT to Finnish syncing. Then you can transfer you coins from there.
322  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Help me for my first time buying bitcoins on: January 29, 2014, 11:45:01 PM
Yes,

1. install the new client. I would say electrum is the easiest one.

2. find your wallet.dat

Under windows its under \Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin

3. Make an online wallet @ blockchain.info while use this: https://blockchain.info/de/wallet/import-wallet

Drag and drop ypur wallet.dat here.

4. Transfer the coins to your new electrum wallet.

There are better ways, like exporting the keys etc. but that's the easiest one.

thank you for answering.

So i got my bc on the localbitcoin interface. I paste my qt adress and sent 0.2 bc to that address. The transaction has 9 confirmations, and i don't see my bc in my qt wallet yet.

Is it normal ?

Yes.

Bitcoin-QT is a Full node. It's what keeps Bitcoin working. If you decided to use Bitcoin-QT you have become a part of the network and help in validating and relaying transactions.

This also means that you have to download the entire Blockchain, which is several GB big and will take up to a few days until it's downloaded and you can use it. Your Bitcoins will appear as soon as it's finished.

If you don't want to run a full node. Consider a lite client, like electrum or multibit. Which are ready right after install.

Also, please post questions like this in Beginners&Help in the future. This isn't exactly a Development or Technical Discussion  Wink
324  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Article on goldseek about Bitcoin on: January 29, 2014, 08:53:00 PM
Always the same with those Golbugs articles, you only need to read the last section:

Quote
Only gold serves as the objective measure of value necessary to act as the numeraire. It is no coincidence that the quantity of monetary gold is not fixed, but has elegant mechanisms to expand and contract in response to changing market demand.

It's impossible for those guys to even imagine, that anything but gold could work for this purpose. It's basically a religion.

Should always be a reminder for us cryto nerds to not become like this.  Wink

Please someone make an altcointalk, and make yourself a board for each alt-coin lol.

This already exists: https://cryptocointalk.com/

Enjoy with all it's ridiculousness.
327  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-01-28 Will Canada Become 'The Silicon Valley Of Bitcoins?' on: January 29, 2014, 10:49:02 AM
The only thing I see there that I also wonder about, is, Who decided there will only ever be 21 million?  How much of a guarantee is that?

That's part of the protocol. To increase that amount you would need to increase the amount of coins that a new block creates as a reward.

Everyone running a full client (you too if you run f.e. Bitcoin-QT) checks new blocks. If they woudn't work by the current Protocoll your client would rejeckt it and don't transmit it to other nodes.

Therefore, to increase the supply you would have to create a new client, that would be incompatible to all current clients and therefore won't be Bitcoin anymore, but just another alt coin.

Understood?
328  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-01-28 Will Canada Become 'The Silicon Valley Of Bitcoins?' on: January 29, 2014, 10:36:05 AM
Haha, the comments!

There is one, that sums up all misunderstandings about Bitcoin in one single Post. Amazing.

Quote
Bitcoin is just another fiat currency with no backing of any sort. Just like the plain old CDN$, its value depends on global demand and nothing else, no gold, no silver, no nothing. The idea that it is de-centralized is foolish. Every currency has its own single issuing authority. Who decided that there will only ever be 21 million bitcoins? Who creates the puzzles one must solve to mine the coins? If it was truly de-centralized I could just create my own bitcoins out of thin air and use them to buy whatever I need. Given its increasing popularity, unless more are created, its value will rise even farther to the point that even big ticket items will be very hard to buy because a single bitcoin will be unaffordable. Also, being digital-only and internet-based, it only takes one teenage hacker in Russia to blow down this whole house of cards.

331  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What to do with .25BTC on: January 28, 2014, 03:29:41 PM
So a friend gave me .25btc on a paper wallet for my birthday and instructed me to check out these forums. What seems like the strongest candidate to invest these into?

Well,...

Bitcoin maybe?
332  Economy / Lending / Re: Invest in me for %8 a week on: January 28, 2014, 12:42:36 PM
any reason why %8 is written like this instead of 8%?
just asking..

He's likely Turkish

Do Turks write it this way?

Or general Arabic due to the from right to left writing.

Hey isn't it moslems forbidden to make any interest dealings?

334  Other / Meta / Re: MODS Give Us Back Giveaway Threads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on: January 28, 2014, 10:15:03 AM
This makes no sense, they were popular so you are banning them.  Many users don't like them, but they are only a small part of the sites traffic.  You want users to go elsewhere, but bitcointalk is where most people start, so why not grow your user base?

The Point is simple. This is Bitcointalk. Many People here (like me) come here to talk and get information about Bitcoin. We don't want this forum to grow in a general Crypto Forum. In that case we would need to find another Forum dedicated to Bitcoin, but we already have this here.

If your want the altcoin section to grow, you are basically asking the Bitcoiners to leave Bitcointalk. If they would do so, the new main forum would become the one mostly frequented, which would mean altcoiners would simply try to conquer that one, too.
335  Other / Meta / Re: Stop SHITCOIN release on: January 28, 2014, 09:48:05 AM
I already see the altcoin board as kind of karantine zone, which I never enter. So IMO nothing to do here.  Grin

339  Economy / Speculation / Re: CEO of BitInstant arrested? on: January 27, 2014, 05:19:41 PM
Wink

Now its the time for USA agents to revenge,

All Bitcoin Business is in fact less/more relating to SilkRoad, SilkRoad makes Bitcoin's sucess today

It's just about the timing to investigate this fact and get a reason to destroy Bitcoin, then arrest Mtgox/TradeHill/Bitinstant etc..

"If the eye of Sauron is upon you GTFO of Mordor."

Time to build/move more related services to more liberal countries.
