~snip~
If you're gonna go via corona, you'll most likely be heavily sedated hooked up to a machine for days or weeks before it happens.  No pain or stress.

But imagine having the person you're closest to put on a ventilator and quarantined.  Almost no updates.  You can't see them.  Could you still function while waiting for the phone to ring?

One of my neighbors is going through that right now while self quarantined by herself.  Sometimes demoralization just can't be rejected - at least temporarily.
3282  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [SERIOUS] What do people think of direct cash payments (US stimulus package)? on: April 02, 2020, 06:19:40 PM
Dumb. Suspend income taxes indefinitely.
The people who didn't lose any income would receive the most assistance.
The people who lost their jobs would receive none.

Do you understand the motivation for the stimulus package?

Many of the highly esteemed doctors and scientists who are increasingly vocally calling bull on this plandemic are as well.

What are their names?

I'm not watching some anti vax youtube channel.
What are the names of the highly esteemed doctors and scientists that are vocally calling bull on the pandemic?

Suit yourself.  I gave you a cut right to the information you asked for (and obviously don't wish to acknowledge.)  It is a straight list of highly qualified medical doctors and scientists and their comments.  It has nothing to do with vaccines.

As usual, I'm not actually talking to you.  I think it very possible that you have a pretty good idea what's going on both with covid-19 and with vaccines, and a pretty good understanding of how these things will soon be related.  I hope that some others will realize that there is growing disent about this charade from real doctors.  They won't get that from CNN, Fox, NPR, NYT, etc, etc.

The highly esteemed doctors and scientists that are increasingly vocal calling bull on the pandemic....I'm just asking if you know their names.  I'm honestly not interested in what any media outlet has to say about the situation.  I look for the the most reputable scientists and doctors that have dedicated at least a few decades to infectious diseases and listen to them.

I'm saying that I would like to see some numbers (in a peer reviewed (or not) paper with reproducible results) which showed the background infection rate for various populations around the world.  It's not that difficult.  Mostly just obtaining a random sample, and techniques for doing so to a reasonably statistically valid criteria are well known.

If you have pointers to such research, let me know.
Sure, I'll send you a link in 2 or 3 years after the research is finished, reviewed and published.

Wait...was that a trick question?  You would just say the scientists did their research wrong and try to make it seem like you are the expert, not them....wouldn't you?

Propose a sampling protocol, run some tests, publish the results.  Should take all of two days.  This isn't rocket science.

And again, it's critical to discover if there is even a problem much less how big a problem there is.  That this very simple and critical data remains AWOL speaks volumes about the nature of this 'pandemic.'

Arguments about sample selection and the like can be performed at any time.  They won't amount to more than a few percent difference anyway unless the sample selection is grossly negligent.

- Scientists all over the world are in on or aware of 'the hoax' and are intentionally misleading the world.
- There's a very simple yet critical step that scientists around the world have overlooked.  tvbcof caught it, but none of the scientists working on it did.
- tvbcof is wrong, not the scientists.

Am I missing any scenarios?

If 'science' were serious about understanding this problem there would be a serious effort to understand the background infection rate using random samples.  You simply have to have some guess at a denominator in order to even start making rational decisions.  I've not found any indication that anyone anywhere has made even an attempt at getting this very basic piece of data.  In fact it seems that there are strong resistance on the part of the 'authorities' to make sure that people do NOT obtain this number in the United States.  To the point of employing cease-and-desist notices from our CDC.

So, are you saying the US government is stopping the scientists from learning more about the virus?  What about all the scientists in all the other scientists around the world?  That would be one very big conspiracy.

Or do you think they are just bad scientists that could learn a thing or two from you when it comes to analyzing viruses?

^^^ Cute little charts. Easy to make. When is somebody going to take CV fanatics to court for real proof?

Cute little charts that reflect bogus data from basket-case countries like Italy who need to beg the international banks for handouts in order to survive and will thus do anything required of them.

What's really funny is that even if you take those heavily massaged and fake numbers and overlay what one would expect from all other diseases you the charts would not show anything more than a minor blip anyway.

You think Italy is faking it and shut down their entire country so they could get hand outs from banks?

What resource do you recommend for the most accurate data?

To the best of my knowledge nobody has really explained what, exactly, it is about this coronavirus which give it some of it's somewhat unique (claimed) properties.
That's because nobody knows which is what makes it such a threat.
We know what

Another hypothesis which is, if anything, gaining strength in my mind is that SARS-cov-2 is nothing more than any other seasonal and unremarkable coronavirus which makes the rounds as do all the rest
Except we know what to expect with seasonal unremarkable corona viruses - so we plan for them every year.
We know how to best prevent it, treat it, when it will peak, when the season will be over, how many hospital beds we'll need, all with pretty high confidence.

Covid-19 cases are spreading in both hemispheres. At the same time.
People are spending weeks on ventilators instead of days like the flu.
We don't have a vaccine, we are still guessing on the best way to treat it, we don't know who's immune or why, we don't know if it will peak in 2 weeks or 2 months.
We do know that if it keeps spreading exponentially, it won't be long before we run out of hospital beds, staff and equipment.
In other words - no, it's not a seasonal unremarkable virus.  It's a pandemic.

- 96.2% does not seem all that similar to me.  Plenty of room for 'insertions'.  IIRC, humans dna is about 99% similar to chimpanzee dna.
If you knew a little more about genetics you'd realize how little you actually know.
3292  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [SERIOUS] What do people think of direct cash payments (US stimulus package)? on: April 02, 2020, 05:58:32 AM
The direct cash payments are actually advances on tax credits for the 2020 tax year.

I don't think so.  I think it's pretty much no strings attached cash, but I'm not sure.  Where did you read that?
The New York Times
Quote
What if my recent income made me ineligible, but I anticipate being eligible because of a loss of income in 2020? Do I get a payment?

The plan does not help people in that circumstance now, but you may benefit once you file your 2020 taxes. That’s because the payment is technically an advance on a tax credit that is available for the entire year. So it will depend on how much you earn.

And there are many other provisions in the legislation. You may be able to file for unemployment or for one of the new loans for small business owners or sole proprietors.
I have not read the text of the law, however, my reading of this FAQ is that payments will be sent based on the most recent return you have filed, and the actual amount will be based on your 2020 income.

Ah yeah, that makes sense.  I thought you meant it would be deducted from 2020 tax credits.

I heard that when they calculate it they will use your 2018 return if you haven't filed yet, and you get to keep it even if your eventual 2019 return would lower your payment or disqualify you.

Conversely, I think if you didn't qualify in 18 or 19 (made over $100k), but you do in 2020 (made under $100k), you would also be able to claim it when you file in 2021.

I guess they really want people to not worry about having to give it back.

I've tried to wrap my head around what kind of effects it will have and I'm having a hard time.  It will get millions of people out of a really tough spot and there will be millions that receive it who don't need it or will just blow it.

I guess my strongest opinion on the whole thing is that the $75k/year cut off seems too high and the $500 per kid seems too low, that doesn't even cover a month of child care while schools are closed.

Giving people that make $95k/year a hundred bucks also seems silly - that $100 would go a lot further to a family of 4 making a combined $55k/year.

In the end, we'll never really know whether it actually made things better or worse overall.

It really won't look good if you continue to list your games as provably fair when they're not.

Why not just remove the claims from your site while you work on developing a system that's actually provably fair?

I don't take it as some sort of educational warning, theymos has recently stated people are overreacting, so I find this educational warning nonsense a bit far fetched. It comes off to me as.. mocking. Mocking a situation that is killing many people and making a lot of people extremely ill is not funny, IMO.

Eh, I don't think it's going to make anyone take the pandemic any more or less seriously and I'm guessing theymos came up with some clever way that it spreads, which sounds fun.

They're doing something similiar on r/memes:

If you comment under someone that's infected there's a 1% chance you'll get infected.  If you get infected there's a 3% chance you get banned.
