341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any altcoins liable to blow up like bitcoins did? on: January 30, 2014, 07:06:00 AM
ROFL at all these newbs that just got into crypto, throwing out the names of all these chains except for Litecoin, Namecoin, PPC, or XPM Cheesy

XPM reppin dat CPU mining, real useful science-doing, stable value-holding coin.  Cheesy

I can't believe people still think DOGE is going to be the next big thing.  It already had it's time in the sun, and it's freshness date is already passed a week ago.  DOGE has no protection from getting DOGE-ed by the next meme-backed coin.
The meme coins will all eventually dilute each other out to dust, arbing in and out of one another until all get driven back down to 1 satoshi each and forgotten.  Novelties that all popped once then faded into the internet's background noise.
342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MEOW] Kittehcoin launched ! Come get some MEOW now. U haz it! DOGE sad. on: January 30, 2014, 05:56:12 AM
There is one guaranteed way to completely Boast up the undervalued Kittehcoin read below for the only way working together

This is a fact as soon as Dogecoin made a donation of around $30,000 to the Jamaican bobsleigh team dogecoin market cap raised millions of dollars making that a fantastic marketing scheme i believe the only possible way for us to achieve the same if not more success is to follow suit.

so I'm hoping that together we can raise and donate to a charity for example http://www.dogstrust.org.uk The reason i believe we should choose a dogs home as this caculated move could possibly stir up some emotions within the dogecoin comminuity and start a real doge meow war Imagine the media headlines "Meow Coin donating to a dogs homes"

the dogecoin community will want revenge giving us more attention as meow coin is not getting any not one single news post ever made but this move could get us all the much needed media attention we so desperately need for this coin to succeed is a fact

Instead of buying cheap coins donate here or those cheap coins won't be worth anything anyway

Its not set in stone where to donate the funds we raise everyone together should vote and donate dogs trust would get british media attention and be a dig at the doge community which was the reason i suggested but anyone else with any ideas please say together we can take this to the top 5
But we need to get it started so lets start donate below

On February the 3rd we shall hopefully raised enough to donate to the selected Charity/Idea and let the market cap explode

Donate MEOW  KKLfWtbZwUoLboEZQY2iGNmvY9BybjSwa6                    Donate BITCOIN 18ciBwyv9Z3RQhPartHYTy4HxFFT9umRmK
(to be exchanged to meow for Charity Idea)

Im aware iam newbie on this forum but that does not mean I'm bad person out to con anybody i just happened to spend my only 2.5 BTC on meow coin at an much higher than current price so I'm all in and decided to hold but i know for a fact without some sort of scheme like this meow coin will become a complete flop hence me figuring this is our only way opened up an account on this forum (30 mins ago) so I'm a newbie I'm happy for somebody established and trusted to continue this donation but as nothing was done i feel i needed to atleast start it I'm willing to donate 500,000 Meow Thats one 1/5 of my total coins

Here's another excellent chance to get a lot of free hugs from the internet for MEOW:   http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1wj01w/kitties_need_bicoins/
This cat shelter in the USA is reaching out to the Bitcoin community right now asking for help feeding kitties with Bitcoin.  Can we show them that kitties grow best when fed MEOWs?

The Original website is here:
kittysafehaven.org

This really underscores the need for a tipbot BTW.  Even NYANcoin has one on reddit.

Kitteh can easilly surpase doges current rate , considerable less coins and the internet dog verses cat is sure to be a winner. Sit tight and hold or buy, gonna be a fun week!!!

definitely. once all the initial bag holders dump and it becomes a real marketplace you will see much higher prices.

Not sure you can call them bagholders if they are going to dump after buying millions of MEOW at <10 Satoshi.  Unless you mean bags of money.

definitely bags of money holders!! But if they waited would be trucks of money instead of bags!! Silly scared whales!

But, serious question though.  Wouldn't those whales be here, reading this forum, and know that this is supposed to go much higher?  Where else are they going to learn about and get MEOW if it's supposed to be not re-released yet?  I know if I had invested in 50 million or 200 million MEOW (~100 BTC right now, $75,000) i'd be F5'ing this thread and all the other kittehboards every 10 minutes looking for the latest information. I sure wouldn't be dumping it all before 'relaunch'.

dogecoin was over 300 satoshis at one point on cryptsy.

Was this at the height of the jamaican bobsled media stunt attention?   Is there something similar in scale for MEOW?   I like the idea of games and such, but I think it might need to go above and beyond the bobsled team level of PR to have a crack at reaching parity with DOGE, let alone doubling it.

Disclosure: Long post but worth the read
First off I'm acknowledging that the relaunch day hasn't come yet and that is maybe why less word has been spread about this coin to the public. (I hope)
I saw potential early on in meow, bought in at a risky point and I'm in the negative right now but I'm holding.  One thing I'm disappointed about is the lack of push (actual support, I'm not talking about fan boys) this coin has had. This coin has been mentioned on keiser, and like he said cats vs. dogs is a very popular internet feud.  WE NEED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS.  There are hundreds of subreddits that already have a huge following DEDICATED to cats, cat memes, cat videos, etc.  YOU NAME IT AND THERE'S CATS.  Lets get a tip bot and talk to some moderators of popular, already established subreddits to see if they will allow the integration of a tip bot and let their users tip each other.  This is a win win win situation.  You could reward the original poster for good content and their viewers for positive comments, kittehcoin gets publicity, and the subreddit gets a more enticed/active community.  The subreddit could even set up a kittehcoin donation.  Doge got popular because it was ALREADY a meme, not because it posted memes about itself.  Cats are a public trend, it's time to reach out and actually put some effort into your investment.  I understand relaunch hasn't come, but no one is going to care about relaunch when we get dumped on by whales.  If we have enough of a public following before relaunch, whales will be much lesser of a problem.  I agree we should wait out on the exchanges/updates, but I think we need to reach out to the public before the relaunch.

Another way to reach the public would be to contact some popular (but not TOO popular)  cat youtubers.  Tell them they should accept kittehcoins, because really...what do you have they have to lose?  They can only gain, gain kittehcoins.  It could be a new way to monetize youtube videos, but in a playful, friendly way.  Whether you want to admit it or not, for coins like kitteh, their success more relies on hype and popularity than it does the actual attributes it has as a currency.  There probably wouldn't be a relaunch if the devs didn't already realize this, but we need to get the word out.  I doubt any of you will take action, but this is an investment of mine and I will work to make sure I get returns/value from it.  I'll be posting pictures to show proof in the next few days to show I'm not just blowing air.  If you're mad kittehcoin is going down/ isn't very popular or scared of the threat posed by quantity holders on launch days.  Don't let keiser do all the promoting for you *coughmaxcoin* GO OUT AND DO SOMETHING YOURSELF.

If you liked this post, feel free to gimme some kitteh love KMToLbngBHXfn7vrgBJyGyowytjW1HhNQm MEOWWWWWWWWW

Per my prior point - a great means to that end:
All of that said, I would love to see some charitable initiatives come along. Something heartwarming and feline related. This provides a dual benefit of a) being good social citizens who share our successes and b) increasing the profile of the coin so that more good can be done.

What I'd REALLY LOVE TO SEE is a few pools taking things up a notch. If you run a pool, especially if you have a fee to help cover expenses, CONTRIBUTE 100% OF ALL DONATIONS TO A LOCAL KITTEN RESCUE or something of the sort. Promote it and make it transparent so that individual users can see in the blockchain that their contributions were sent in full.

We could be cool cats and literally save a metric shit-ton of kittens from euthanasia. That would be epic.

If only one wire news agency or local news channel heard about this story, in a small or medium sized market, they would definitely pounce on it.   News media are getting short on new Crypto story ideas and in a small or medium sized town there will definitely be a willing ear for someone who called the local TV or newspaper news desk and told them about this happening. But make sure it is REAL first, like all set up and working, not a 'maybe this might happen in a week' BS, that will get your number sent to voicemail from then on.  Real story with people who can do real interviews, smiling, holding saved kitties up for the camera.

Then when the upstream news network (UP, UPI, NBC, BBC, etc)  picks up the buzz from the story done by their local affiliate they can rebroadcast /  republish it in their larger markets and voila, kittehs on the moon

I'm not planning on getting back in, but that does not diminish the value of the above at all.  This is probably the first meme-backed coin that has a really good chance to get adopted by girls in appreciable numbers, which is a demographic that has so far seen very little interest in crypto (on a percentage basis, obviously girls are not biologically allergic to crypto) or in the considerable trouble it takes to get ahold of some. Forum Tipbots and Facebook tipbots (does such a thing exist?) would be a huge, huge driver of adoption because it gets rid of a lot of the initial adoption friction that prevents people from going from spectators to speculators.

there is holder of 200m MEOW - 1 satoshi was nice price he said (it is not me)

Wow, I'm double out, I wish I could have sold twice.   Up till reading this thread  I was pretty optimistic that this MEOW wasn't a premined coin, but with all these huge whales who bought in or mined at 1 or 2 satoshi lurking around, this is no different than having an enormous premine problem weighing it down.  I understand that something like 4 billion MEOW were already mined due to a bug in the old spec.... and that these "accidentally cheated" MEOW are not going to be taken off the market on relaunch? So what is the point? This is no different than being stuck on the wrong side of a premined coin for anyone who bought after it hit 6 or 7 Satoshi.

Bugger it, holding what I have and just bought more. Undecided
I'm holding 45M but no one btc left to buy more  Cry

There are single individuals holding 45M MEOW?  I am selling out now while I am ahead.  Maybe a bad idea, but prefer to get out while I am a little ahead than have to worry about guessing when one person can switch on "dump" and crash the price all by themselves, and leave me at half where i started.

Huge dump

Yeap. Someone with big money speculates. He know that MEOW blow in near future Smiley

So he would be selling out of his holdings?  Why would that be a good move?

> Relaunch monday !

Pardon if this has already been covered somewhere, but I am misunderstanding how this coin is being relaunched if

1. you can already buy it
2. can already mine it
3. and everyone who it would be 'launched' to in these forums (and presumably others), already knows about it?

Who's it going to be launched to?
352  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is rising in value for no good reason at all on: December 18, 2013, 06:27:16 PM

And when the upper middle class to wealthy Chinese who only care about Bitcoin as a means to move RMB out of china into USD under the radar, find out just how much of a pain in the ass it is to turn it into USD, their support is going to disappear in a puff of panic.

I believe in the underlying concept of bitcoin but I am getting the feeling it is going to die from over exposure before it is ready to handle the attention.

.Ahem.
353  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: WHAT IS MTGOX DOING WITH ITS LOOP on: December 06, 2013, 08:12:40 PM
Sorry for the noob question, but would someone be able to breakdown what's happening, for me?

Yes what is this loop you people refer to? Connection problems? Latency? Other exchanges work fine and price seems stable. So why the panic?

Go to:
http://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/mtgox/btcusd

and look at the 1 minute chart. That is what they are talking about.

Ah, I see. Thanks.

I am still confused by what you mean. Can you dumb it down for me please? All I see is that on MtGox that have stated the last trade was Last:$877.46 for quite a whilte.

Never trust that ticker on Mt.Gox's own site. It is very misleading as it gives you the impression that the last price reflects the current price or the market price, when it clearly doesn't.

354  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Im going nuts trying to find an exchange on: December 06, 2013, 04:02:33 PM
Localbitcoins all the way for me.

Sometimes there's a massive premium when things are rising but when they level off or fall it often matches the market rate. I've bought online from there with no problems at all.

Seconding this.   The slow speed of the transaction (if you are doing an in person trade or physically going to a bank or wire office) can actually work in your favor if the market suddenly takes a turn for the better after you click "buy" and before you complete the transaction, due to the seller's BTC being held in escrow until the 2 hour escrow limit times out or the BTC get released to you.  Of course, it can also go the other way too...
355  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Satoshi's paper was submitted in academia would it earn a Masters or PhD? on: December 06, 2013, 03:58:18 PM
Nope. A Masters or PhD thesis with less than 50 pages is too little.
This could be published as an article on a journal of Cryptography, though.
Or maybe a journal of Computing or Applied Maths.

Not necessarily too short, formatting considered.  If Satoshi's paper had complete dissertation-style references, citations, and a lot more raw data in tables, figures, and proofs it could easily hit the 100+ page mark without adding a single extra word of narrative description. It would only need some minor restructuring to accommodate these additional elements.  Also, critical portions of the proof of concept client source code would be considered 'pages' in the overall paper length as well.  On a side note, for hard sciences, there almost isn't a separate dissertation writeup any more - instead I am seeing a trend toward taking 3 or 4 graduate level papers and/or articles you've already written and have them worked thematically into one dissertation since, for practical reasons, they typically share a lot the same research data you have already compiled. Satoshi's paper (if complete citations and references were added) would easily equate to one or two of these since it addresses multiple disciplines.
356  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Late to the party again! on: December 05, 2013, 11:56:28 PM
Most of the people you interact with on a daily basis have yet to hear of Bitcoin.  You only feel like you missed the boat because you are now immersed in the community surrounding it, where everyone by definition has already heard of it.

I make a point of asking everyone I buy things from - the gas station attendant, the maitre'd, the guy selling Christmas wreaths near my office - if - by chance - they take payment in bitcoin yet.  Just taking an informal tally and also piquing their interest which usually leads to a quick 'sales pitch' where I explain it is like email for money, negligible transaction fees, pay by phone on the spot with no card needed, etc.  I don't even bring up the speculation aspect, i leave that for them to discover on their own.  So far I am 0 for 20 (at least 20, probably a handful more).  Nobody outside a small slice of people who have interest in technology and to a lesser extent, finance, have ever even heard of it.  I am sure they might have seen it on the news in passing but if so it apparently hasn't sunk in yet.

Bitcoin, or something very like it, is going to be with us for a long time.
357  Economy / Service Discussion / Getting a bank account at JapanNet Bank (Mt. Gox's bank) on: December 05, 2013, 11:32:44 PM
Has anyone tried this?  Does it make life easier when trying to get non-BTC funds withdrawn from Gox?

358  Economy / Service Discussion / Mt Gox frequently not matching orders at market price - anyone know why? on: December 05, 2013, 11:05:14 PM
So I am toying around with Mt Gox doing some playtrading since I can't seem to actually get their customer service to ever process my AML verification so I can move my money out of that dump*.

More than 10 times in the past few days I have observed Mt.Gox posting a "Last" transaction value that was well over ask prices, or under Bid prices I have set on booked orders.

I thought it was just a fluke for a while, but I am starting to wonder if there must be a better explanation.

To make sure this is not my imagination I booked two small orders and gave them a minute to be fully processed and posted 'open,' and then watched the last trade price ticker fluctuate down toward their prices.

Just as I am expecting to see the orders filled, suddenly a "last" transaction is shown well below my bid prices, and my orders stayed unfilled:

the "last" price would then bounce up above my bid prices again.  Is someone actually buying well below market price and if so, how?

* fiat friction is a serious problem with Mt Gox, and  I suspect it plays a major role in Gox's high exchange rates, and by extension to Bitcoin's valuation in general due to Gox's size and influence in the market.

What pain in the ass?  5-10% below market rate and you will have a line out the door with cash in hand.

Another example that only makes sense today, in bubble growth land where sloppy or careless business practices are drowned in hype-fueled growth numbers.  When the price starts eventually falling you are going to give away a lot more wealth than 5-10% on every conversion back into USD, it might even fall 5% in the time it takes to process the transaction. Also, this 'solution' will accelerate the crash that will already be happening and which is itself what is driving all these people to your door so they can get out of their BTC, stat.
360  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is rising in value for no good reason at all on: November 23, 2013, 08:30:58 AM
Hate to say it, but gotta agree with OP here. The bitcoin market is rather illiquid, so it can be difficult converting back to fiat at times, which no doubt factors into the bubble. Once you`re in, you can never get back out. Might as well ride the wave  Smiley

Yeah, indeed.  Illiquid in almost the same sense that the Brooklyn Bridge market is illiquid...
