341  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 12, 2016, 03:06:26 PM
I don't see that in the article linked, and certainly not in the businessinsider source they link to. All it says is: "RBS is bearish on everything", which somehow is twisted into meaning they're "indirectly" advising investors to buy BTC. Does "indirectly" now mean "not at all" or did I miss something?

Read better, i'll give you a little help.

At the end of the article it starts with;
Quote
Bitcoin Provides Something Unique & Less Volatile.

Right, but that's the article's author saying that, not RBS. RBS are saying "sell everything" - bitcoin.com is saying "Bitcoin Provides Something Unique & Less Volatile." The complaint here is that the article doesn't seem to be accurately reflecting what RBS has said.
342  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2016 crash has begun! on: January 12, 2016, 09:56:46 AM

The market capitalistion of bitcoin is much larger than three years ago. So it is quite difficult to move it either way.

Interestingly enough, that's not correct - market cap was $8175 MM on 18 November 2013, it's $6549 MM as of 4 January 2016. Remember that market cap is a function of price, as well as number of coins.

Edit: I was out by a week - I should have used Coindesk's market cap as of 25 November 2013, to match the week where BTC/USD rose by $500. Market cap on 25 November 2013 was $11803 MM, the ATH, so the point still stands!
343  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will happen if there's no price rise for the halfing? on: January 12, 2016, 09:43:56 AM
A lot of angry people I would imagine as they were waiting a whole year or more for this to increase their stash of coins astronomically. Myself included the ones in cold storage that is  Wink

Maybe they should realise that the price has already risen over 60% in the last year. But people are expecting a big rise in June.

^ This.

I think sometimes people think the date of the block reward reduction will roll around and suddenly the market will wake up to it. In reality, the relevance of the halfing increases as we approach it - but not in a sudden-spike way, but in a gradually-over-the-course-of-time way, as the poster above has pointed out. The market knows the halfing will happen.

I've also got coins sitting in cold storage, and an astronomical rise would, of course!, be very nice. But a 60% rise through 2015 is good, and with the 2016 block reward reduction out of the way we can look forward to the market pricing in - gradually! - the rise for the 2020 block reward reduction.
344  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price of Bitcoin and Mining Profitability on: January 11, 2016, 11:54:07 PM

Big miners will not switch to solar power system for mining, as solar panel only works in day time. I most most mining farms move to use hydro power, which is more reliable.

Every solar setup I've seen (rural industries and boats, mostly, some urban, though typically domestic) has used batteries (12/24v DC) because the owners have anticipated not just night time but cloudy days too.

With the inclusion of battery and no subsidy from government, will be solar panel still be a profitable option for mining?

It depends. Solar would be a (mostly) one-off cost - once the miner has invested in a solar system there are no further major costs. Unless the miner owns the hydro plant (which is possible - I've seen small-scale hydro power generation on farms), they'll be looking at regularly recurring costs. But wasn't this part of the discussion about reliability?
345  Economy / Speculation / Re: Stamp is Leading BTC.....That means DUMPAGE! on: January 11, 2016, 06:05:18 PM
Never heard about stamp. Is this a shorthand for the real name of the exchange?

Does not seem there is going to be a big dump either. Price is going a little bit down, but slowly, and hope it goes up again soon.

It is shorthand - "stamp" is Bitstamp.

Edit: I'm sure Stamp was leading when this was first posted, but a couple of hours later Finex was back ahead, same with Huobi. Temporary glitch rather than dumpage. Panic long since over.

347  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why I believe BTC will continue going up on: January 10, 2016, 02:55:57 PM
Oh he... will you look at that... it's going down. ..
Who on earth expected that...

ooh, I know this! You did! All the way through December, and before that too! Sooner or later - as mind-blowing as it seems - the broken clock had to tell the correct time. And I've got to tell you, I'm shocked, shocked, I tells ye, that the price is going down on a Sunday. Whoda thunk it?
348  Economy / Speculation / Re: Big Dumps on Black Friday? on: January 10, 2016, 12:27:57 PM
not it is celebrated in other region, i see that some website were offering soem huge discount in that day, so maybe this is true for chian also

Yeah, Black Friday seems to be catching on in Britain - a few years ago it was usually marked by news reports about "those wacky Americans", now it's a chance to grab bargains on amazon.co.uk etc. I think there may even have been fatalities (or at least injuries...) at a British shopping mall.
349  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2016 crash has begun! on: January 09, 2016, 05:23:28 PM
There was not a $500 climb in one week. It raised to $500 but that is another story. Of course it is manipulation as it always is to start the ball rolling. It is not crazy that they can manipulate in the slightest. It makes perfect sense because even though you see a so large market, it is peanuts in the scheme of things and is not large. Rich getting richer is not new news its been happening since the creation of gold receipts/money.
Duck/OP you may get lucky and be right one day. i doubt it but its possible.

Wrong week! Back in December 2013 it went from $450 to $950 in 7 days (though, to be fair, it dipped to $450 first).
350  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2016 crash has begun! on: January 09, 2016, 03:37:52 PM
@OP,
We are heading towards $500 these days, do you call this crash???
Or a reverse crash I guess??? Wink
Can you please explain where did you see this crash coming from???

Just watch the charts.. the crash seem to have been delayed but it's going down right now.
Sentiment is negative. Selling pressure is high. Fundamentals are weak.

Delayed again? Aw shucks, not again Sad

I am waiting for my payouts, so excited.  Cheesy

Dude, you should try working for a dishonest employer - all the fun of waiting and seeing how much of the money you've earned you'll actually get! (Though, to be fair, the hypothetical employer probably wouldn't charge you a >1% fee to receive your wages. Maybe if you asked them nicely they might make an exception for you).

I want to invest 500 btc in Scrypt.cc.  Can someone send me a referral link?  Thanks, UOG

Why dont you try to do it yourself? And one more thing 500 btc for a scam site and from a newbie doest sound pretty interesting no one believes you.

UoG is a newbie on BCT, and possibly hasn't learned where the /sarcasm tag is located yet. They're not a newbie when it comes to scrypt.cc, however Wink

Nope he is obviously joking when he was saying he wants to invest 500 btc how  come someone would risk that amount of penny for a scam site. And more obvious if he doesn't know which is legit and not.

Uh, OK. We're on the same page - I think.

354  Economy / Speculation / Re: $400 will not survive the weekend on: January 07, 2016, 11:30:33 AM
The price is barely floating above $400. But for how long? The latest analysis suggests the breakdown to be happening soon.

Drive-by troll post. The OP hasn't posted further in this thread since their original December 31 post, they don't reveal what their "latest analysis" is, etc. Anyway, last weekend saw price remain resolutely above $420 so I guess that's the answer to the OP's claim.
355  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Scrypt.CC | Scrypt Cloud Mining on: January 06, 2016, 02:13:32 PM
Well, you guys have fun with this.  And BTW, it is not trolling, it is telling the truth, something that no one else seems to care to do.  Telling the truth just might stop this from happening in the future.

I tend toward the theory that telling prospective investors don't invest will have more effect than telling victims that they're idiots. You call it telling the truth, I call it blaming the victim, not the scammer.
356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Scrypt.CC | Scrypt Cloud Mining on: January 06, 2016, 02:11:43 PM

How, pray tell, am I supporting scrypt.cc? I mean, I realise you're trolling, but I'm biting - so tell me how, please, do go on.

You are really that stupid?   Ok, here we go.

Scenario 1

1. Scam site opens

2. PEOPLE ACTUALLY THINK AND DO NOT INVEST

3. Scam site cannot actually support themselves and closes.

Scenario 2

1.  Scam site opens

2. People just willy-nilly throw funds at it because the tooth fairy and santa claus might actually exist and rain BTC on the pillow overnight

2. The "other" group tells them, "It will be ok, you did just fine not doing a bit of research and handing your money to the stranger in the dark alley promising sugar plums".

3. The idiots that invested eventually give up on the first site and move on the new and brighter empty dreams because the never realize just how stupid they were in the first place.

4.  Scam site reopens under new domain, new name and welcomes the idiots right back in

Scenario 3

1. Scam site opens and stupid people invest...blah...blah

2.  They lose their money and actually feel stupid for being stupid, no one tells them it is going to be ok and THEY LEARN SOMETHING!!!!!!!

3. Scam site reopens and those same idiots NEVER INVEST

How, pray tell, am I supporting scrypt.cc?

Because none of your scenarios seem to describe what I do, have done, or will do (I guess you didn't bother following the link I posted, eh?) You, sir, are not a very good troll.
357  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Scrypt.CC | Scrypt Cloud Mining on: January 06, 2016, 01:56:21 PM

I am sure you will.  There are always people out there to help you feel better about your mistakes so that you can make even bigger ones the next time around.  I prefer people that point out the truth, give me a sense of just how stupid I was and promote a sense in me to not do these things again in the future.  But, do not worry, there will always be someone there to hold the hand of the stupid and pat them on the back for their stupid acts and encourage them to forge into the future and screw up some more.

Don't be so disheartened - I'm sure there'll be some one around to victim-blame and deflect from the scammer too.

God, I hope there is someone there to point the finger at the real problem.  The fact is that the higher the number of idiots out there, the greater the chance that these sites will continue.  You guys are doing a great job supporting them, so please, continue forward, the world needs more blind rushing into the fire.

How, pray tell, am I supporting scrypt.cc? I mean, I realise you're trolling, but I'm biting - so tell me how, please, do go on.

Edit: you may find this useful.

I don't understand why this is still being talked about.  It was a scam from day 1 and yet here it is months later and there is still talk here on the forum.  If you put money into this it is gone, now stop talking about how horrible your choice was and move on to the next scam to complain for months and months about.

It isn't really still being talked about like that - there's one group warning people off with Public Service Announcements (big red warnings), a few folk who stumble across the thread after they've been scammed and are looking for help (and deserve our sympathy and support to recover as much of their funds as possible), and a dwindling number of people who thank Admin for every satoshi that leaks through Marcello's fingers.

No one deserves sympathy and support.  They joined an unknown program and invested in a brand new site with active funds.  They actively gave their money away in the hopes that some miracle dream would replace their mundane existence.  They had it coming and should quietly accept their fate.

OK. Well, I'm lucky I didn't make this mistake with scrypt.cc, and I've been pretty shrewd with BTC in general, but I hope when I inevitably screw up I encounter people with slightly more sympathy than you.
