Would bigger aluminium block help? Is it hot at on edges?
a bigger block would really help, but technobit wast too stingy to put a bigger one on it  Lips sealed

It's really tall already, but if it could be wider, 120 or 140mm wide, you could use larger fans that have more CFM but less noise than a 92mm fan.

I don't like the bottom heatsink being in a different direction to the top. I'd rather it was running the same direction as the top one, then you could put a big fan on one end and blow air down both the heatsinks and put it in a tunnel. It looks a lot of hassle to manufacture the bottom heatsink, the way they made it, with lots of cut outs.

I'm sure Marto thought it was best to deliver 260GH, noise dB(A) wasn't mentioned in the purchase contract, but GH was!  Cheesy

Haha 79dBA  Cheesy

For those who don't understand how noisy this is...

Quote
Garbage disposal, dishwasher, average factory, freight train (at 15 meters)    80dBA    Possible hearing damage
Freeway traffic (at 15 meters), vacuum cleaner    70dBA    Annoying

Specially for customers like you we are finishing now 4 chip version with normal heat sink and fans.
I hope it will be stable @ 130 range  with nice 2-3w fans.
The damn chip is sooo power hungry

If you do a 4 chip think about making standard CPU holes so people can use a CPU heatsink or a radiator block, like KnC and HashFaster do.
If I could use a CPU heatsink with 120/140mm fan it would be so much quieter, or liquid cooling to pump the heat to a radiator and fan outside, would be awesome!

i think i found a way to run this board in my flat AND stay together with my girlfriend Grin

i replaced the stock fans with 3 of this: http://www.blacknoise.com/de/products/it/16/Noiseblocker-NB_BlackSilentFan_92mm

the heatsink doesn't stay as cool as with this default airplane turbines, but i think it will work Smiley

i will take some pics later Wink

Did you try it and know it works? Can you touch the heatsink for 10 seconds without burning fingers?
I'm guessing you will have to drop the clock/voltage a bit. How low did you go and what was the final GH?
The noise blockers are not as good CFM as the one I'm going to try, 3x Arctic F9 (9 blades) 43CFM.
So if yours work I have hope.  Cheesy

This is great  Smiley
I am sure many people will choose 4 chip version  Grin

Are these A1's chips a different production run to the ones Bitmine are using? How did they manage to get 1GH/1W?
What about the Bitfury 2, is the ETA for that still March? I'm probably just going to wait for another chip.
If I cannot get these running quite I'll eBay them.
If someone can give me the lowest GH/Watt they will run at it would be useful before I pick up a temporary PSU.
But if not I'll find out tomorrow and report back!

They use more chips at slower speed to save power.

Yeah I thought they used 12 instead of 8, but someone corrected me on that, the 12 is for the Rig, the desk has 8, like the Hex8A1.
The chip specs say 850mV for 1GH/W, which was supposed to be their Turbo mode, so I'm surprised these don't even fire up at 850mV.
I did hear a rumor they made a second batch and the first went to DIY, but I was hoping it wasn't true. Tongue

No I mean in total, don't they have 5 boards in the Desk? So for 1TH they are getting 200GH per board which is much lower than the 270 these ones get so maybe needs less volts.

Yeah I want to run this with less volts like they do 850mV should make it 200GH/200W so I get less heat and can put quieter fans on.
But I think Zich said he got like 23% error rate!  Shocked
If I swap with someone with a later batch Feb/Mar will they be more efficient or the same?

OMG guys the fans are worse than I thought! MARTO!  Shocked

BOTTOM FANS = Sunon PF92251V1-000U-G99/S99 = 92mm 12V 4.7W 4500RPM 46dBA 75CFM

TOP FAN = Sunon PMD1209PMB1-A(2).GN = 92mm 12V 12.5W 4900RPM 57.6dBA 120.2CFM

The thing is HUGE! Here it is next to a Hex16B!

I don't have time to mess with it today because it's valentines day and a couple of family birthdays too!

All the parts I need have arrived except the PSUs I had on back order.

I'll have to go hunting for a PSU tomorrow, can anyone confirm 850mV it runs < 264W?
I might just pick up a cheap 550W 44A to tide me over. It's using 17.2W just for fans! I'll get that down to 3x 2W hopefully.

On a serious note guys these fans are dangerous to little fingers. Keeps kids away/get fan guards. They only cost a few dollars.

bitminter has been totally hacked.
On 3 different occasions, I have logged to find my payout address changed.
Worst security EVER!!!!

any proof to this?

I just checked mine, and it's fine.

I've been mining here for years and never been hacked. Which Open ID are you using? Are you using a lame password like "abc123"?
Maybe you got hacked by downloading some software? Did you really download a wallet for a coin that had it's own pre-mined genesis coins stolen?  Roll Eyes

Are they both Sunon Maglev PF92251V1-000U-S99 DC 12v 4.7W?

It's 127.43m3/h 75cfm.

I'm hoping the bottom one is slower! Dunno how I'd replace 75cfm to that heatsink! Cheesy

Maaan, it will be a challenge to replace them with adequate fans Cheesy

Top one is easy if it's 75cfm replace it with 2x 43cfm = 86cfm.

If the bottom fan is Sunon 2v 2500rpm, leave it as is. If it's faster we'll have to drop the hash speed to get it quiet.
350  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Technobit HEX8A1 - 6/8 chip Coincraft A1 board -999 EUR March delivery on: February 13, 2014, 11:21:32 PM

You should be able to stick 2x 92mm fans on top with a lower/quieter RPM in that case.

I will do that for sure, at the moment it is not bearable.
two 92mm ~2000rpm on top, and the bottom one will be replaced too, just got to find the right ones

Are they both Sunon Maglev PF92251V1-000U-S99 DC 12v 4.7W?

It's 127.43m3/h 75cfm. I hope they didn't put a 110cfm on the top!

I'm hoping the bottom one is slower too! Dunno how I'd replace 75cfm to that heatsink! Cheesy

Yeah the heatsink air flows are in a cross + so you cannot use a wind tunnel to cover both heatsinks with a big fan.

Can you measure the length of the heatsink and see if it's 184mm long.

2x 92mm fans on the top was my next idea, depends on length of heatsink though.

yeah heatsink is 183mm long, both fans are 92mm

You should be able to stick 2x 92mm fans on top with a lower/quieter RPM in that case.
352  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Technobit HEX8A1 - 6/8 chip Coincraft A1 board -999 EUR March delivery on: February 13, 2014, 11:00:11 PM

Where the heatsinks aligned like this = or this +?

If they were like this = I was going to build a wind tunnel and put a 120mm fan at one end and blow air over both heatsinks.

But last I saw Marto changed the heatsink design to +. For that configuration I was going to put 2x 43cfm 92mm fans on top with cable ties.

The heatsink is like this

Gator
@ 200 you can run 850 mV stbale if HW more than 2 % for 1/2 hour rise voltage a bit
the you can use some 2500-3000 W fans
LOL... I know you meant 2500-3000RPM, but the thought of a 3000W (4HP) fan made me smile.
http://www.industrial-marketing-group.com/60_Blade_66_Panel_5hp_Industria1.item
Something like that, 39,000CFM.

Oh no! Please don't give Marto & Zich any suggestions for stronger fans! They'll use them! GH to the moon, just needs faster fans! Cheesy

Shhh! Don't mention the Delta 92mm/4800rpm/110cfm!  Wink

Try one volt 1000 mv and 257 clock

I will give it a try, thx Smiley.
Friend of mine just started his HEX8A1 board successfull with Odroid Smiley

This settings are not working after ~10min, but I guess it depends on my current PSU.

I was wondering about putting a slower fan on the top of the miner and two 120mm on the sides to get an air stream.
What do you guys think about this? I guess it would be much more silent than my curretn 80db  Undecided

Are these power estimations for real??  Ridic!  I Think ill grab me a reel or two.

The A1 chips you're selling were quoted as "0.35J/20GHash" too. Look how that turned out!  Tongue

Can a TP-Link run both Hex16B and Hex8A1 at the same time? Which do u set as default then?

That one Fan on the top is EXTREMELY noisy Angry
yes it works, but it is just a matter of time when my neighbors call the police or my girlfriend kicks me out. this device is ridiculous loud!!  Angry

Beastlymac and dozerz are looking to buy if anyone hates the noise! I did warn you about Sunon Maglev 4500rpm.  Wink

Did you get finger guards? If not, be very careful, these are industrial strength fans, can take the end off your fingers!

I'm gonna replace the fans and run it at a lower clock, if mine ever arrive.

What are good settings for 200GH? Will these A1 run at 1GH/1W there like Bitmine's A1?

358  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Minimum break-even time for your rig? on: February 13, 2014, 02:23:13 PM
What did you order?

4.5 BTC = 6x Hex16B in late November, 1/6 came December, 5/6 arrived January, ROI = 2.25BTC so far, est. 0.05BTC per day (50 days more!).

5 BTC = 2x Hex8A1 in January, looks to be shipping on time, ROI = est. 0.1BTC per day (50 days+).

I earned 8.8 BTC with graphics cards. My plan to reinvest BTC into ASICs to make more BTC, is er... hopefully going to break even one day! Cheesy

Todays $500 BTC price is very cheap compared to the cost of hardware to keep up with difficulty. You have to be crazy to be a miner! Some people lose huge fortunes pre-ordering miners! I know someone who started earlier than me with GPUs who could have been a $millionaire if he had just hung on to the BTC and sold at $1000+ instead of pre-ordering with BFL!

I've never been in it for the $ though, I just want to help create a bank/debt free currency, I spend in BTC to change the world one bit at a time!  Tongue
359  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Technobit HEX8A1 - 6/8 chip Coincraft A1 board -999 EUR March delivery on: February 13, 2014, 01:27:12 PM
I was a bit annoyed myself with missing the end of the Feb batch.

I don't like the new ordering system, I preferred it when you could see every item counting down, had no idea it was close to ending.

But I don't want to risk the March batch with Bitfury 2 on the way either, no idea the price/specs, but Punin seemed very confident!

So even if you missed the Hex8A1, cheer up, we can look forward to seeing what Marto can do with the Bitfury 2 chips in March!  Grin
360  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Does cooling GPU Mining increase hashing? on: February 13, 2014, 01:02:37 PM
You can run higher clocks by increasing the cooling, but like you suspect, the return on investment is better served by running more cards slower.

I really recommend the R9 270, the two fan versions, it's 1280 SPUs, for only a single 75W 6-Pin PCI-E.

It's the number of SPU's you have that effect MH/s the most!
