341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Why do we need coin mixers? on: September 04, 2017, 05:25:55 AM
I get the idea behind it, but my question is if someone sends an Ethereum from wallet A to bittrex, used that Eth to buy bitcoin or any other coin with it, then use that coin to buy back Ethereum, wouldn't that automatically "Mix" the Eth since I get a new one? If so then why do we need all these mixing companies?

This is no different than sending a coin straight from an exchange, which is something you never want to do if your goal is anonymity.

The goal of mixers (they don't actually achieve this goal in most circumstances as chain analysis companies are proving with more and more frequency) is to make the coins origin (before the mixing) unverifiable to an observer--exchanges can observe the whole process and most will report any transactions that took place while on the exchange, so it would be useless to launder money.

What would you suggest to blurr the blockchain ?

We all start out as noobs and I sent straight from multiple exchanges to my wallets. Even pointing multiple unverified exchange accounts to a wallet but then sent from a verified account to the same wallet.

Myetherwallet reuses the same address afaik so really everything is pretty easily linked

I like your signature btw
342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Does a profitable trading bot exists? on: September 04, 2017, 05:07:21 AM
I have used gunbot for months and can say that it is very difficult to make consistent profits. Yes I had days where I made 10% but the number of days that I lost 20% far outweigh it.

There is a serious learning curve. You have to constantly baby sit it, a stop loss has only now been added but the current software has not been finalized.

He does rolling releases meaning that there are constantly new versions with new bugs.

The documentation of the bugs is not centralized so unless you know what the bugs are and how to "get around" them you will have trouble

If Gunbot were easy to use they would not be upselling gunbot university to "teach" you how to trade

You will be sitting on bags for a long time

There are lot's of used gunbot's for sale

But after all this complaining.. It is a good value because it is a one time payment. He has added a dev to make a decent gui
He is responsive to the community to make changes........ although it took way to long for a stop loss
Ping Pong will make you some money if you watch it

If you can pick good coins buy and hold will make you way more BTC
343  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: EOS - Asynchronous Smart Contract Platform - (Dan Larimer of Bitshares/Steem) on: September 04, 2017, 04:53:55 AM
I realize that blockone will not "start" the chain themselves. It will be up to the community to do so. This is so that it is "decentralized" and done by the community.

My question is What kind of computer do I need to be able to run one of the first nodes ? How can I be a producer ?

Anyone could mine ETH or BTC in the beginning. All they needed was a computer and the software.

It seems like very specialized hardware and possibly intranet connection to be able to start this blockchain.

Seeing that there are only 21 producers and nodes getting paid by the network is this just the inner circle like BTS that will be mining this and reaping all of the benefits ?
344  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [No ICO] Aidos Kuneen - Anonymous & Zero fees on: September 03, 2017, 03:31:19 PM
We always complain about ICO's with nothing more that a fancy website and a whitepaper. This has a 40 mill market cap and doesn't even have a white paper

I realize there is a product but it would be nice to have a whitepaper
345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: 5 crypto currencies to invest in 2018 on: September 02, 2017, 05:07:12 PM
Dash, Waves, ETH, NEO and EOS

I like platforms vs currencies except for Dash, They can fund their own initiatives and adoption, Evolution will be introduced.
EOS blockchain will be a game changer
ETH will fix some scalability issues
346  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ICONOMI - Digital Assets Management Platform on: August 29, 2017, 01:11:06 PM
So I think about investing heavily. What uses do tokens have and when will the downward spiral bottom out?

How did you come upon the decision to invest heavily without having a basic understanding of the token ?

Is this how you typically decide to invest ?

347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoins that might survive in the future? on: August 29, 2017, 02:53:11 AM
in my opinion i will choose ethereum, zcash, and litecoin

zcash is already half dead and ethereum is a zombie being pumped. the only remaining option is litecoin and not because it is a good coin but only because it belongs to Chinese and they love it.
and you are forgetting about coins with something to offer like monero and iconomi

Really quite something to read back into some of the original posts in this thread.

Zcash, Eth, monero and litecoin see the moon.
348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Wallet that supports multiple altcoins on: August 29, 2017, 02:49:20 AM
Yes the exchanges are bad. There are multiple scenarios where you lose. They go broke, they get hacked or the government takes them over and controls all the funds.

I have my $$ spread all over the place. Because of that reason I use keepass password manager and have a note in there with a list of all the wallets that I have and what is held in there. Along with things like waves (that should be staked) and a few shares of a masternode.

This note is for if I should suddenly die that my family (who knows about the list and the masterpassword) would be able to access the funds
349  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Blocknet] truly decentralized exchange | token ecosystem infrastructure on: August 28, 2017, 01:21:55 AM
I heard about blocknet on reddit a week but couldn't find any detailed information. Now I have stumbled upon this thread and their website.

Sounds great, just wish I had bought in before this massive spike

I fear that buying the rumor of the wallet might leave me holding a bag come next week
350  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Good time to buy ETH now? on: August 27, 2017, 11:36:30 AM
If it is a long term investment, which I am hoping since you are new, now is a great time.

Buying eth is like buying a blue chip stock like coca cola, you can't go wrong

Dollar cost average till you are holding the amount you want to start with. An easy way to do that is to place a scaled order. Like a buy at 320,315,310,305 and let it ride, see what you pick up in the course of a few days or a week.

Much better than buying 1k worth at 330 only to watch the price drop to 300
351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bancor | Protocol for Smart-tokens, solving the liquidity problem on: August 26, 2017, 10:00:34 AM
I avoided this ICO because of many reasons but this article sums up the problems very well. This was bringing banking and fractional reserves to crypto. Similar to the announcement that derivatives will start being sold. This is bad for all of us and allows manipulation beyond what the exchanges and small whales are doing.

http://hackingdistributed.com/2017/06/19/bancor-is-flawed/

If you are holding Bancor or thinking of buying it, take a few minutes and read this

This is old, and was debunked, read this - https://blog.bancor.network/this-analysis-of-bancor-is-flawed-18ab8a000d43 .
Also Bancor is working pretty well since the ICO and it's the best proof that Emin was wrong.

Bancor is working alright but the big problem is that people are not in crypto to see a smooth straight line on the charts. We love the volatility because that's what makes us money. Since Bancor is not able to provide that, you can see people losing interest in BNT which is manifesting in the BNT/ETH ratio constantly declining.

There is nothing you can do about it really, and I think when the platform will be fully operational, the interest will come back. Seriously, there are hundreds of pump&dump coins to choose out there, doing 50% up or down daily. Does every project/coin has to be 'get rich quick/loose all quick' scheme? I'd say NO!

Exactly. Most of the coins now and then go up and down up to 30-50% in one day. This means they are not the coins they pretend to be. They are entirely speculative assets. Stuff for people who like to gamble. But then if you lose all your money don't whine. You like to go to a casino? Fine. But be not surprised at some point to lose all your money. Bancor's price is down? Yes, less than 20% vs Ether, but it took two months to slide that much, not 2 hours, like the other coins often do. When Bancor's apps will start to work, expect the price to go up, and for good reasons, not because someone is pumping it for the purpose of dumping it a few hours later.

If you are happy with their response to the article then I there is nothing more to say except

You are wrong about the price

It's the risk with an ICO though, many are gambles. It is just frustrating when you see that you would have been much better off just holding

2. Plus I have a waves wallet that can receive ethereum coins can. I use that as a campaign is required to send eth address not waves address?

You can send ETH to the Waves wallet but you can't send all erc20 tokens to a waves wallet. You also can't send waves to an eth wallet.

If you are joining a campaign that is for erc20 token you need to create an ETH wallet that can accept them. Myetherwallet is a good choice for that situation
353  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anonymous BTC wallet over TOR on: August 26, 2017, 01:03:54 AM
No, that's not how you can have anonymous coins, you'll need to exchange to some other anonymous coin, maybe doing it a few times so blockchain trace can be lost, also using TOR when accessing some key websites.

Bitstamp coins are precisely the opposite of anonymous.

Is this effective ? I was sloppy getting my BTC and shuffling between exhanges and wallets. Now I have various different alt's that I plan to hold long term but would like to disconnect myself from them, existing wallets and exchanges.

I want to start over again but how ?

Should I just use shapeshift and send them to a new offline wallet ? Like convert eth to btc and btc to eth and the like ? or should I convert all to monero and then swap from monero to my preferred diversification.

354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Binance: $BNB The Future of Exchanges. on: August 24, 2017, 09:41:26 PM
Many who bought low, are selling now. nevertheless the price is holding up. Thats a very good sign. If the early buyers wouldnt sell (duh) it would be over $4 by now. And the thing is, when fees get implemented people WILL buy BNB. So, its a nobrainer to not step in if u ask me.  IF and IF the platform will remain its position and may even climb, which isnt far out the realm of possibilities, BNB will climb steadily.

At least thats how i see it.

Correct me if im wrong.

This is why the price has dropped...
There was an issue this morning with the TRON ICO
here is the response:

Quote
We encountered a technical performance issue (related to in-memory locking) during the TRON ICO. It took some time to narrow down to the specific issue. The issue has been fixed.  All 1.9B TRX has been sold successfully, all purchase records are processed correctly. The same problem will not occur in future ICOs.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

The problem did not affect Binance exchange trading.

Thank you for your understanding and unwaivering support.

355  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [IPO-ANN][FC][FileCoin] Decentralized Encrypted File Storage on: August 24, 2017, 09:28:17 PM
Initial coin offering (ICO) investments have exploded in 2017, surpassing early venture capital (VC) funding for internet companies. Individual funding totals have ratcheted up throughout the year. In June, Bancor raised a then-record $153 million; today, that might be considered a disappointing haul for a high-profile crowdsale. EOS and Tezos quickly surpassed Bancor, raising $185 million and $232 million, respectively, during July. Now, the Filecoin ICO is leaving those token sales in the dust.

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/filecoin-ico-raises-record-250-million-from-accredited-investors/

EOS ICO is still ongoing. Nobody is going to top it any time soon. There are 1 billion tokens being sold and only the first 20% were sold below 1$. Filecoin has raised considerable sums considering the fact that only 30% of the tokens are being sold off (to VC's), the rest will be for participants in the network
356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Hero Token [ICO] PRE-SALE | The Future of Banking in Southeast Asia on: August 24, 2017, 09:23:39 PM
An Official Announcement about the Pre-Sale

*Hero Token Pre-Sale Bonuses*

@everyone _(We will only make use of this function for important announcements only - promise)_

It has just been a few fruitful days but we are excited to share with you that we have made significant strides towards getting the word about Hero Token’s goal known — to create a more inclusive banking experience in Southeast Asia.

We introduced Hero Token through various forums like Bitcointalk and allotted 2% of the Token distribution to several Bounty Campaigns — which was recognized by people in the community as one of the biggest bounty pools to be ever awarded on Bitcointalk!

In the last 8 days, #HeroToken has reached over 352,300 unique Twitter users and garnered over 1,142,938 impressions. On Facebook, a total of 481,506 friends and followers have been informed about Hero Token, thanks to the continued support of our bounty participants.

The pouring support and inquiries can also be seen in the Hero Token Slack channel. More than 8,000 worth of messages that inspire not just us, but everyone else who wish to be involved, to help the unbanked and underbanked get access to affordable credit.

From 130 users 8 days ago, now our Slack channel has now crossed the one thousand mark — and we are preparing for the next thousands.

Basing from the popular inquiries we have gotten in the first week, what we would love for you and the other thousands of early believers to know is that the pre-sale will happen soon.

That said we are glad to reveal the bonus / price during the pre-sale; *We are lifting the first secret: Pre-sale participants get 30% extra token.*

*Day 1 is the actual pre-sale. Wherein you will have the chance to get 30% more tokens in the first three hours! If you miss it, the remaining hours of Day 1 offers 20% more bonus tokens. What you should note for Day 1 is that the minimum contribution is 10 ETH and there is no maximum.*

*After a few days, Day 2, considered the actual Token Sale will begin and you will receive 10% more tokens throughout the day. There are corresponding bonuses as the days pass. What you should know for Day 2, is that there is no more minimum amount required to invest. *

BONUSES
PRE-SALE — DAY 1 (First 3H) — +30%
PRE-SALE — DAY 1 (3:01h-24h) — +20%
DAY 2 to DAY 3 — +10%
Day 4 to Day 7 — +7%
Day 8 to Day 14 — +2.5%
After Day 14–0%

_One (1) ETH is equal to 200 Hero tokens. That means that one Hero token is worth 1/200 ETH. Extra tokens are offered to those who commit early. Bonus tokens are allocated on top of the tokens you are purchasing. For example, if you are planning to buy tokens for 50 ETH within the first 3 hours, you will receive 10,000 tokens plus another 3,000 tokens as a bonus (which represents 30% of your 10,000 token purchase), so 13,000 tokens in total._

*How can I be part of the pre-sale?*
Please message @david on Slack or send an email to tokensale@herotoken.io while there are still a few slots left. Hurry! (Tell only your best friends) PS. No whitelist for less than 10 ETH.

If you already got a confirmation message from David there is nothing else to do. If you want to update or cancel your allocation, please message @david on Slack or email tokensale@herotoken.io

*Curious to know when is Day 1? We are lifting this secret soon*

- Your Hero Token Team

Important Note:
_Security has always been our utmost priority. We’ve taken additional steps to protect you. As such please make sure whenever you receive a newsletter/email or Slack message (direct or through Slackbot) you verify its content since somebody else might have gained access and is sending those emails. The way to verify those information is by checking if those match our only and official website www.herotoken.io our Slack channel our medium page and our Bitcointalk page, since it’s almost impossible that all means are hacked at the same time._

Out of interest, If you are offering zero% to participants in pre-sale after 14days, Are you impying that in the main ICO there will be no bonus otherwise if there will be bonus does that mean ICO participants during the main sale will be better off than people who participated in pre-sale

The presale is only day 1, the actual sale starts on day 2. Bonuses are available for the first 14 days. Day 15 on there are no more bonuses.Reread it and you will understand.

Anyone having trouble with the Lite Client ? I can log in but balances don't show. I deleted the account and restored from the seed and nothing show. Not even the history.

I just login to my waveswallet.io and everything is in order my balances are intact and the exchange is working smooth and perfectly check if you have the right wallet address in your seed this usually happens when you out the seed and the wrong wallet appear and you proceed login in.
waveswallet.io worked perfect. I was trying to use the chrome extension. I uninstalled the extension and reinstalled but nothing. There must be an issue with it. I use a password manager so it's not an issue of extra spaces or anything like that

- install Waves Lite Chrome plugin
- enter your seed (copy paste or type it) and a password
- does it show the right address?

It's working fine over here.

Yes it showed the correct address. Yesterday when I was having troubles I also copied the address into the waves block explorer and it showed correct  balances. I am not concerned with it now that I can get access through the waveswallet.io  The lite client always worked fine before and actually stored the address so all I had to do was paste the password and it would work.

360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: August 23, 2017, 05:43:54 PM
After reading this post by Evan https://medium.com/@eduffield222/how-to-enabling-on-chain-scaling-2ffab5997f8b It appears that Dash is going to change the way that Dash handles transactions to something more along the lines of EOS with the delegated proof of stake along with the nodes taking turns processing the transactions to make "mining" fair for all participants.

This is obviously a good path forward but a very serious change to the way things operate and also becoming more "centralized" than it currently is

I didn't read anything of the sort in that piece... Evan talks about scaling the hardware a MN runs on such that the network can process very large (several 100 MB) mined blocks. There nothing in there implying that DASH is not going to be proof of work in the future. Collateralized mining is discussed as well, but not only have the details of that not been explained to the community -- it was recently removed from the roadmap (presumably pushed back to focus on Evolution).

Can you quote the section that where "delegated proof of stake" or something similar is mentioned?

This is from the medium article. This is nothing but mincing of words. Collateralized mining is Staking
Quote
The basic premise of collateralized mining is to require collateralization and a special mining key which is associated with each masternode to be able to mine a block. Each masternode is then capable only of mining a specific amount of blocks per period of time, creating a round robin mining effect across the network.

This is how EOS will operate:
Quote
Many producers are selected and given a round-robin rotation for a round of blocks, thus creating a competitive market within the round, ensuring overall reliability, and resolving forks.   source: https://steemit.com/eos/@iang/seeking-consensus-on-consensus-dpos-or-delegated-proof-of-stake-and-the-two-generals-problem
The difference being that bad acting producers can be voted out. What measures are in place to prohibit bad acting masternodes ? Would the masternodes vote themselves to remove a bad actor ?

Quote
As we mature, masternodes become bigger boxes that require a specific set of specifications, for example they’ll require a high-end cpus, high-end graphics cards, a disk array and low-latency networking. It seems to me that we should be able to do that from outside of co-locations even, building our own farms at various dash centers / offices, allowing our own decentralized co-location services. souce: https://medium.com/@eduffield222/i-looked-up-the-amount-of-nodes-we-presently-have-on-each-server-farm-with-this-url-http-178-88967e634897

This sounds more centralized than decentralized.

Not trying to create FUD  I am a dash holder, investor and part time evangalist
