3421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bit-Pay for Mining? on: January 22, 2012, 09:34:45 PM
Has anyone thought about this yet?

Bit-Pay allows for merchants to essentially accept Bitcoins as cash that gets deposited directly into their bank accounts.

Is there any way to extend this service to allow a miner to instantly convert pool payouts into cash that is also directly deposited into his/her bank account?

Edit:  I think Bit-Pay could REALLY profit from this.

Edit 2:  Hey Bit-Pay, could I arrange something like this with you individually?

sign up with pimpcoin.com and point your mining payouts to it.   Cheesy

This would work, although we don't recommend it.  It's like running your own credit card on a sale at your own business to live off the float.

I could easily see you guys banking huge if you teamed up with some pools to offer this feature (of course, promising not to release any banking info to the pools themselves).

EclipseMC already offers this in the form of a PayPal cashout option, but this would be a good thing to have for other pools.

I'd prefer direct deposit to PayPal.  PayPal can kindly suck it.  But duly noted.

desktop might be a no go. my last chance is my friend who wants to mine. he has a macbook pro with nivedia geforce 9400m. any mining potential there? even for just a few bitcoins over time

With 9400m your'e looking at 1-2 m/hash.  You might earn .01 BTC every few days to be honest.  NVIDIA is terrible for mining.
3425  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: where from here? on: January 22, 2012, 08:46:23 PM
Mining is basically akin to buying Bitcoins slowly using your hardware as a hedge on your investment.

Let's say you spend $1000 to build a 1 GH/s machine.  You'll end up earning a few bucks a day.  Obviously you're hoping the price of BTC goes up in this case so that the Bitcoins you mine become more valuable.

The idea is that even if Bitcoin were to somehow drop to zero value tomorrow, you'd still have the value of your hardware as an asset and you would minimize your losses.

How many BTC are you offering?

If 1) You want to get rid of BTC fast and 2) Casascius is offering to buy, then 3) you've found a great solution  Grin  He's probably one of the most reputable members on here.

Edit:  Hope that's where you were going with this Casascius Smiley
3427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You can actually buy stuff with Bitcoin!? on: January 22, 2012, 08:38:29 PM
bitmit is a very important website for the future of bitcoin. To boost the bitcoin economy in any significant way, we must all contribute to drastically increase activity on sites such as bitmit.

I'm doing my part of the contribution by placing a large number of articles soon, including non trivial stuff like music instruments etc!

Come on people! Together we can do this!!

Do you have any very nice guitars (Gibson Les Pauls, Paul Reed Smiths, etc.)?

Do you have any very nice basses?

Do you have any very nice acoustic guitars?

Do you have any higher-end electronic drum kits?

Edit:  To stay on topic, Bitmit looks awesome.  First time I check it out Smiley

im on an hp pavillion laptop the pool is slushs

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison  If your graphics card isn't on here, you're probably out of luck.

My guess is your laptop doesn't have an OpenCL-compatible graphics card.  My Toshiba laptop doesn't have any OpenCL-devices either.

If by chance you do have an OpenCL device, I think you would need to download the ATI Stream SDK.  I had to do this before I could start mining on my desktop a few months ago.  I think it still applies now but I'm not sure.

Edit:  By the way, even if you find out you can mine with that laptop, I wouldn't expect to make more than pennies a day.

Edit #2:  On the other hand, if you find out you can mine with your laptop, it might be good to just mess around with different pools and settings so you can get a feel for it if you ever decide to do a hardware upgrade and build a mining rig.

Like I said, if at all avoidable I'd rather not send out btc in hopes of not getting Tradehilled by another service.I'm sure there are some solid ones still out there, I'm fairly new and losing nearly $1200 in one of my 2 of my only attempts at selling thru a service kind of shakes my confidence.

Cryptoxchange apparently only charges a $5 flat rate for any transfer (they swallow the fees your bank would normally charge you.  They're based in Australia and apparently they are insured.

BTW, I've been using TradeHill for 6-7 months.  This is the first time I've really seen them drag on an issue beyond what could be considered reasonable.
3430  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 3 x 6970 in Windows...Help needed (.5 BTC bounty) on: January 22, 2012, 07:56:59 PM
I have 4 6970's, with guiminer I get 386 mhash. With cgminer I get 420-440 mhash. You definitely don't want the crossfire bridges connected.
And no dummy plugs are needed thats for linux. Are you sure the miner is not set to mine on one gpu, it can auto reset itself sometimes.
I would start with removing the cards. Put one in run it, install another reboot and so on.
I would also uninstall catalyst. And just install the cc drives without the full catalyst. Make sure its version 1.11 or lower.
If you try cg miner, make sure to use this shortcut to run it, or all your cpu's will be maxed out. Put this phrase into the target of the shortcut C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c  start "cgminer.exe" /affinity 1 "C:\cgminer\cgminer.exe" (assuming cgminer is located in your c:  folder)

Its clearing a driver issue if you are indeed selecting the proper devices in guiminer. It is not a setting that can be changed. Also your power supply is going to be working overtime. I burned up a 1000 watt with 2x 5970's which draw about the same as your setup.

Thanks but problems already been solved.

PSU is doing just fine with 3 of them.  I underclock, not overclock.

3432  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto X Change - No More Wire Costs - Deposit & Withdraw any Currency $5 Now! on: January 22, 2012, 07:08:18 AM
Now two things can make my face melt:

Slayer, and Cryptoxchange.

Edit:  BTW I registered today.  Any chance I'm #1000 and I win those sweet 10 oz. of silver?
3433  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto X Change - No More Wire Costs - Deposit & Withdraw any Currency $5 Now! on: January 22, 2012, 06:03:37 AM
Wait...Matthew is confusing me.

Two Scenarios:

1)  Let's say I have $100 total in a Chase account.  I send those $100 to Cryptoxchange.  I end up with $95 in my Cryptoexchange after all fees on both ends are taken into account?

2)  Let's say I have $100 total in a Cryptoxchange account.  I withdraw those $100 to my Chase account.  I end up with $95 in my Chase account after all fees on both ends are taken into account?

Does Cryptoxchange eliminate the fees that my bank would normally charge me for initiating a wire transfer?

Edit:  I just want this quoted so in the event that I withdraw money and I see some erroneous $30 charge come up from my bank, I can bitch to Cryptoxchange for a refund  Grin
3434  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto X Change - No More Wire Costs - Deposit & Withdraw any Currency $5 Now! on: January 22, 2012, 05:59:24 AM
By $5 flat fee, does that mean $5 on your end?  Or is that $5 total including whatever my bank would normally charge me and whatever your bank would normally charge?

In other words, if I have $100 on Cryptoxchange and want it sent directly to my bank account, I would end up with $95 in my bank account?

Of course not. Every receiving bank has their own fee structure. There is no way CX could possibly know how much that will cost you.

Well, when he says specifically "no international wire costs from your bank,"  I think the question is appropriate.
3435  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Tradehill or tradehell? on: January 22, 2012, 05:52:53 AM
Call Jered what you will but I call him a liar and a thief.  I got out today by doing multiple bitcoin withdrawals of less than 80 coins each and took some of them to Crypto X Change in Australia.

I am baffled that people will stand up for Jered.  And actually, it has recently come to my attention that one of his ardent supporters actually owned a piece of the company.  So be very skeptical of people who come on these threads and say that Jered is anything other than the lying scum that he is.

If only I could do the same, but my money is all stuck in the wiretransfer so I cant even buy BTC.

I hope your avatar is your face.  If so, I'm sure you can get money easily elsewhere.

Hi,

Within the system you setup with your mobile number, it will send out an auth code and then once it's setup it will be used to verify all your withdraws etc.

Thanks

Crypto X Change

Nice Smiley Thanks.

Withdrew all my BTC from TradeHill successfully today.

Reminds me of folding 10,000 flyers for my college prep school in Korea. That was fun.

Love your avatar, bro.
3440  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you think Bitcoinica should switch to TradeHill? [Edited] on: January 22, 2012, 04:52:32 AM
After reading about all the problems people have had at Tradehill depositing and withdrawing funds I think you should stay away from that exchange.

What are you talking about?  I withdrew all my funds today no problem.

You must not be in the US.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=56599.0

Maybe not.  Is Illinois in the US?

That is weird. You must be one of the lucky ones. By the sounds of it you should stay away from tradehill from now on.

Well, I can't speak for wire transfers or Paxum.  I withdrew BTC just fine though.  But then again, I always break up BTC transactions into multiple payments to avoid manual approval.  Just common practice.
