Is Bitmain still applying thermal paste with a pneumatic butter knife?

They're usually very good with thermal paste, if you see S1-S4 chip pics, they spend the time to paint each chip individually. I'm not sure what happened on this one, but it was impossible to clean with all the resistors so close. Was either going to be goop or cloth fibres, and the goop was there first.

There is already an Avalon4 thread if you want to continue that one: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=779612.0

That is ancient news

...there is more to a thread than an OP. What you posted here has already been posted in that thread, along with much more information and active people. That is the official thread.
3424  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: The official information resource for BitFury Group on: December 17, 2014, 12:10:10 PM
Can we have some verification from a non 0 post account that this is indeed an official Bitfury project please? Nothing on the Bit-X or Bitfury sites state anything about this. And seems a bit weird seeing as Bitfury has PR representation.

I've messaged Punin and a press contact to confirm its an official account, might be some time due to time zones.

Edit: Confirmed, this is a Bitfury account.

PPS: I'm concentrating on the other parts like mining experience and stuff with my review, as I see I can't beat everyone else's photos. Tongue

No Y axis? I had a VR headset and Nintendo Power Glove ready to go, but your picture is unfortunately lacking the necessary coordinates...

Haha I was thinking about that, but then I'd have to stitch it into a 3D model and display it in heavy flash rather than lightweight java.

Great review from a legend.  And also that is one heck of a 360 Dogie.

You'll probably like the SP35 one then, much more even look. Those damn shiny silver miners take ages to post process, and almost have to be photographed in a black room. http://www.dogiecoin.com/spondooliestech-sp35---360-degree-view.html

I think I'll do these for most reviews now.

I will need a new power supply to replace one that died on me today. What do you think of this bad boy at $CAD 179.99?

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182320
Rosewill PHOTON Series PHOTON-1200 1200W
Single rail +12v@100A

I know Rosewill is a not glamorous. But the specs are more than ok for a C1.
$CAD 179.99 is the cheapest gold 1200w power supply I can find in Canada.

You're too close with the decibel meter, and you're in the wind stream. Move a metre back for a more reliable reading.
3434  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool: Pushing forward Decentralization on: December 16, 2014, 06:17:45 PM
Dear Community,

The reason generating an empty block is that Antpool has multi- nodes, then there is a large amount of data per Block. In order to ensure multiple nodes sync timely, then we would first sync Block Header, which results in an empty block found in a short time. We are now trying to solve this problem.

Meanwhile, as a Pool, we shall ensure the mining profit of each miner who points miner to Antpool. Currently a Block rewards are far larger than the transaction fees. Therefore empty blocks allowed are to ensure Pool Luck.

We are working on solving these problems, also hope Bitcoin enthusiasts can come up with better solutions: both to ensure the Pool luck, but also to ensure a better Bitcoin methods, such as the Super Bitcoin network or backbone network etc…

tldr, we care, we're working on it.

How many people have upgraded the S4 firmware to: initramfs.bin.SD-20141016.tar.gz from the bitmain website?

I only ask because mine is still running on the factory firmware no problem with difficulty manually set, so I'm kind of wondering if I should bother with the upgrade.

I don't think you'll be able to get an accurate number of people Smiley

Even if you don't currently have any problems you might have issues if you ever want to switch pools. I had trouble with some rentals - for some reason even December delivery S4s came with old firmware - upgraded to the 1016 version and haven't seen any problems since.

I really only asked because I've been seeing people have more problems after upgrading the firmware (not necessarily with the S4, but with S3's for sure), and I've kind of been taking the "If it isn't broke don't fix it" position with my miners.

Nothing wrong with the S4 firmware, just this S3 one. S4 firmware has of a bit of a hash rate boost.

I upgraded all of my S4's to this firmware and gained at least 5% hashing speed on the pool. I also set difficulty to 2048. 225 Mhz 0725 volts . They are all hashing at least 2200 and are stable meaning I don't have to hard reboot them every day for crashed chips or reduced hashing speeds.
Maybe I need to upgrade my firmware. When S4 hashing rate drop to below 1500 Gh/s, my pool with Ghash.IO goes to zero. I had difficulty set to 2048 manually.

I'd hard reboot that one and just see how it does. Pictures don't suggest any other problems at the moment.

i've cranked up everything I have to full power while rental prices are this much inflated.
You haven't seen my electricity bill or the load on my circuits...

Try 16KW and $1600 a month...

Unfortunately it seems there's nothing for the EU or UK. We either have to ship to HK or the US. Really not sure how some of these boards are going to survive in tact, especially those fragile coils (which I had to superglue one on).
