2521  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S3 Setup [HD] on: January 30, 2015, 04:14:45 PM
I have p2pool node set up on laptop (coinD is synced and connected to network) - for solomining some other coin.
I've connected s3 DIRECTLY to that PC. I can access antminer setup page so I understand network setup is ok.
My PC IP (with the node) is set to 192.168.1.1. (p2pool stats page shows after entering it to webbrowser)
I have only LAN set up on S3 - I guess this is fine since S3 should only connect to local p2pool?

In my S3 pool setup i enter:

pool:192.168.1.1:9374 (this is the port on which node waits for workers)
worker: <wallet address>
password: x

Status page on S3 is empty... "This section contains no values yet"

This is my first antminer so maybe I'm missing something obvious...?
Edit:
My setup
Code:
               Ethernet             WiFi
    S3        <-------->  Laptop <--------> Router (WEB)
192.168.1.99            192.168.1.1
                       running coinD
                      + p2pool node

Why don't you try with the S3 connected to the router directly? That way its acting like just another network device, rather than relying on your laptop to get it right. You shouldn't have to change anything else to give it a try once you've moved the cable over.
2522  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S3 Setup [HD] on: January 30, 2015, 04:12:26 PM
Yet another wifi question.  I've never needed to use wifi on any of my ants before, but it's either get wifi to work or sell them and I would rather keep them. I don not have any antennas yet, didn't want to buy them until I had wifi working. I have 1 S3+ right next to me on the floor, router on the desk to my left, so 3 feet apart? I have connected one of the wifi cables from an S1 to the S3+ to see if it would help, case is still off.  When I scan for networks, I get something like 92% for my network and can even see a few of my neighbors faintly. However when I connect to it I get 0 signal and every now and then a blip of communication under "Associated Stations" in the wifi tab.

I know you have to edit WAN from static to DHCP Client and proceed from there but as far as my understanding that was so you didn't have to jump start it so to speak.

Any ideas? Thanks for reading.

I do have another unit at home, going to see if it acts different.

On something like that its easier if I (or someone else) helps you over teamviewer. There's about 10 things we can keep mashing to get it to work eventually, and its much easier than typing instructions one by one. PM me details when you're about, I'll usually be about sharpish.
2523  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Philipma1957's attempt to rate current Manufacturers of Asic for home mining. on: January 30, 2015, 04:10:54 PM
I voted when poll was here, so did the data transferred to google or we shall vote there again?
Google poll requires login with google credentials, not btctalk-this is kind of defeats the purpose.
yeah  if you do not have a gmail account you can't vote there.

Surveymonkey is free for the first 100 responses and doesn't need a login. You'll also be able to limit people to voting by 1 per computer, IP etc in case there is any abuse.
I have one that only requires a webserver to run / take responses.

I've even made some questions but stopped seeing as there was a google form, if SP would like what I've done so far / to see it I would be happy to show them / give it to them.

Its a bit more detailed. If they send me a PM / email I'll show it to them and make changes if they request and finish it =)
It's Philip thread, he runs the show.

I am looking to back off here. As I am a little dog.  I would like us to try to create a decent survey So thomas_s  shoot me a pm  and one to sp-tech. I will look at it. We can brainstorm it a bit. Since this is more of a joint effort. It will at least be some kind of effort to make a fair clear cut survey.
I can't actively run a manufacturer survey.

Just curious, but what do you guys perceive as the benefit of running the surveys repeatedly? I doubt we're going to get enough people to be able to analyse across any meaningful shifts, especially when users have to choose just one company.
2524  Other / Meta / Re: PM restriction for new accounts is needed on: January 30, 2015, 10:51:16 AM
I agree with the restriction. If they can't wait and post enough to remove this restriction, they probably aren't really into this community, we all wen't through the 360 second post limit time.

And welcome to the ghost town.

I think the opposite, people can see the results after they post their scores anyway and having a daily update of the results keeps any cries of foul play on behalf of the organisers to a minimum.

I still think that seeing results after may skew it a bit. Anyhoo, doesn't really matter now.

2527  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Got some Antminer S3s - What power supply and how to connect? on: January 29, 2015, 12:14:43 PM
My recommendation for a consumer PSU for 2x S3s is the CX750M. Stable as hell and at a sensible price.
2528  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: January 29, 2015, 12:05:04 PM
You don't need water cooling to have quiet. You just need to stop designing for maximum density. Spread the chips out and use nice quiet slow big fans. That's really all water cooling is.

If the SP20 was twice as large (same number of chips, without putting 2 chips in line of the airflow) it would run much better and quieter with 2 fans.

I agree with the sentiment on spreading chips out, in every product other than the SP20 though. The SP20 has other issues / coexisting hurdles required to get it silent at stock speeds which wouldn't necessarily be solved with a decrease in density. On the SP10, SP30, SP31, SP35 though, almost certainly. Of those only the SP10's fans were actually loud, everything else was PSU noise from using 1U PSUs.
Which other issues do you think the SP20 has that would cause decreased density to not allow it to become silent?

That's classified information Wink

Doesn't matter his response, what matters is: is there any chance of watercooled Spondoolies miner?!?!?!
There are significant challenges to a watercooled SP20.

Primarily, I'm too busy to set it all up. Wink

Cable ties are your friend Cheesy

That's $800 of cooling gear for a $400 miner, as well as spagetification Tongue Maybe it would be viable with 'northbridge' off the shelf blocks and chain them all with a syscooling level [$50] kit, although even then we're talking 8x $25 + $50 Sad
2529  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Philipma1957's attempt to rate current Manufacturers of Asic for home mining. on: January 29, 2015, 12:01:11 PM
It's just cross my mind that you can ask other member here who want to contribute like Biffa(or you can choose) to create poll here one poll per member. I believe it's will work  Smiley

It'd still fall foul of the rules and suffer the same fate, because it'd be 5-8 topics on exactly the same thing. The current setup is good because its everything combined into one thread so voters don't have to wander about from thread to thread.

Its probably best to prevent users from seeing the results though, I don't know if they will create positive feedback bias.
2530  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3+ Discussion and Support Thread 0.24$/G Free Ocean Shipping on: January 29, 2015, 11:48:15 AM
Thanks! Did you got any replay?

No reply unfortunately. I'm sure this has been asked about the S1 and someone came up with an ebay listing but with forum search down I was unable to locate it. I've found listings on globalsources which just refer to similar looking cables as X pin flat ribbon cables, that's the closest I can get.

Same on my end. In most cases I get fast respond but not this time... S1 cable will not work. It is different... I looked...

Its the same... 'type'... though, so I was hoping it would give us a name we could follow and look for a double row 20 pin.
2531  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: January 29, 2015, 11:39:21 AM
I have marked the LM75 (TEMPERATURE Sensor) Chip in the following pic. Just stick a small heatsink on top of the sensors, one on each hashing board.

If you put a heatsink on the the sensor wouldn't that make the sensor inaccurate then? I mean you're cooling the sensor but not necessarily the board.

Pretty much, hence its not recommended. There are more things that require cooling on that board than just the ASICs, and if they didn't we'd be seeing a vastly different cooling setup.

2533  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 29, 2015, 11:21:44 AM
Bought everything as a kit. I called the Colorado support facility and the guy said all he can do is have me ship my entire system over to them and they will find out what is wrong with it and fix, no matter what it is. So I lose a couple weeks mining, big deal, and have to pay to ship that and my cooling system to Colorado. Hey, at least their willing to help. What's BitmainWarranty going to do? They would have probably told me to do the same thing. Only thing that bothers me is having to pay shipping for an in warranty product. I'll remember that next time when wave of new hardware comes a along. Other companies provide you shipping labels.

WHAT IS OUR RADIATOR MADE OUT OF? THE ONE THAT CAME WITH THE KIT? ALUMINUM OR COPPER?

[BitmainWarranty is the Denver, Colorado centre, calling in is just a quicker way to contact them]. I think it is the best solution to return it now, as whatever stuff is growing in that loop will be all up inside those blocks as well. I'm here to see if we can help people remotely without having to ship stuff across a country / continent as then everyone loses out.

They usually do provide labels but I guess its a bit of a confusing situation for them - let me know after its all completed if you're still out of pocket and I'll try and get it sorted.

My guess is copper.  They have always been very careful to say to use coolant not water.  That and it looks a copper "PD360" on their site we got: http://www.syscooling.com/products/Radiators/54.html .   The two aluminum radiator's they show selling are much smaller then the one with kit.

I could be wrong if they used a specialty one for miners, but I'm highly guessing its their standard.

Yes, you have to assume its copper or there are copper components. In several points in the listings (all changed by now) there has been a mention of copper on both the radiator and the fittings [internal coating]. You can see within the chamber of the radiator that there is definitely some form of dark orange coating, which may be brass or copper. So tldr, be safe and assume there is copper and aluminium within the same loop.

They INSTANTLY refunded my money and FLAGGED his Paypal account.

Unfortunately they often say things like this to make the customer feel important / powerful, and make sure they [Paypal] distance themselves from the bad transaction. Until there are many more complaints its unlikely anything will actually happen or automated checks are trigger.
2535  Other / Meta / Re: auctions section spammed by crap domains on: January 28, 2015, 11:02:51 PM
How about 1 domain thread only per seller?

I can't remember which mod it was, but one of them spoke to the most prolific domain listers but it seems like we're back at square 1. Maybe that approach isn't effective.
2536  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How to tell the difference between S3 and S3+ on: January 28, 2015, 11:00:40 PM
I have a batch 1 running nonstop since july flawless but they need to run at freq 212 so I  get about 840gh at 600 watts.  they run in an office using a discount power plan of 2.4 cents a kwatt. they have earned 2.5 coins since july 22. easy btc roi but usd roi is still not there yet.

You must be talking about 2 - S3 miners?

Yes, he has 2.

I'm not under stress and I'm not annoyed about anything. Life is good.

Then there is for some of the things you've come out with in this thread.

I'm not involved in that sub-thread. I was looking for an avenue to buy new bitfury gear.

I understand. I don't think they're selling as of today, appears to be in a generation transition.
2539  Other / Meta / Re: Content leeching websites on: January 28, 2015, 08:17:43 PM
Simple question, but what if more sites like bitcointa.lk appear? Websites that leech and reupload content originally created in bitcointalk? Are we ever going to see any measures against such websites?

why do you think it is a problem...

i think sevices like this give to bitcoin and forum
who talk about bitcoin
much more visibility!!!

much visibility mean more bitcoin trader..
and the ecosystem grow up!!!

new people are involved into bitcoin business..

i do not see problems...

In the only places these clones get visibility is when they're in direct competition with bitcointalk. Imagine a new user ending up on one of these fragment sites and wondering why nothing works.... he's going to nope the fuck out of the ecosystem and not come back.
2540  Other / Meta / Re: Content leeching websites on: January 28, 2015, 08:06:49 PM
Why would we want to? Such websites make it more difficult to scam via changing and deleting posts

Because they take new users and revenue from this forum. And there is the opportunity that scams could essentially be run on a clone of btc. The site administrators could pretend to be 'badbear', who has 1000s of posts, plenty of trust and is an admin - just not on that site.

Edit: Just to be clear, I think its questionable for site 'mirror's to be used in order to generate post history and then make money off it. Those sites should be shells and there should be no way for users to interact with those sites. Ideally, edit history would be added to bct itself. All other uses for clones are not a good thing.
