Bounty goes to BitLane Smiley

BitLane, please send me your BTC address and I will send you .5 BTC.  Be advised that I will not be able to send until later today because I need to buy a new network cable.  After you post your address, I will post again after I have sent the .5 BTC.

I think you got lucky Smiley  I was very tired last night and made the dumb mistake of opening 3 tabs but NOT changing the devices from Cayman-0 to Cayman-1 and Cayman-2.

Thanks for the easy fix!

Glad to see you got it fixed. Although I didn't offer up the advise for the bounty, I will accept it none the less Wink
Thanks.

.5 BTC sent about 10 seconds ago Smiley

BTW, Ill try out the CGMiner sometime soon.

Update:  Tried disconnecting Crossfire bridges and still have the same problem.

Advice please? Anybody who can fix this for me gets .5 BTC

I think you should try diablo miner.

Also what is your CPU usage like while you are mining?

I have not tried mining with multiple cards but I might be able to help. Have you tried different miners in guiminer and what kernel are you using? I find the phatk kernels with polcbm to be vastly superior to my 6950 which is a 6970 with locked cores but that is only with one.

One more thing to try is to reduce the aggression on the mining as this may be causing a limitation

[EDIT]

Also try just running 2 cards to see if you have the same problem. I would assume you have a 1000W P/S you are powering these cards with. I dont think that would be a problem though as likely the power supply would blow up if it were overloaded.

Honestly, I'm exhausted at the moment (haven't sat down in 18 hours) and I don't really know anything about kernals, aggression settings,  and have never experimented with other miner programs.

I have a 1050W PSU.

If you have any other advice, leave it here and I will check it tomorrow or Friday when I get a chance.  Bounty is still on the table and it may be increased if this is really a pain in the ass.

Thanks so far Smiley

(BTW, an explanation of kernals and aggression would be awesome!)

I prefer GUIminer due to familiarity.  Anyone else?
3467  Bitcoin / Mining support / 3 x 6970 in Windows...Help needed (.5 BTC bounty) [SOLVED] on: January 19, 2012, 04:27:20 AM
Hello,

So, I just set up my new gaming/mining rig.  I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, and currently my 3 6970's are connected via crossfire bridges.

When I launch GUIminer with crossfire enabled, all 3 cards generate the output of 1 card (about 370-380 m/hash at stock speeds.  If I turn off crossfire in Catalyst Control Center, one card gets all 370-380 m/hash and the other 2 generate 1 m/hash.

My questions:
1)  Do I need to take off the crossfire bridges?
2)  Will I need HDMI dummy plugs for the other 2 cards?

Thanks in advance Smiley
3468  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitTalk.TV Interview with Zhou Tong of Bitcoinica.com on: January 18, 2012, 11:13:34 PM
With the big drop we just had I think my question is more relevant than ever.

Changing my opinion on Zhou after watching this manipulation...

I will not be using bitcoinica, and I have lost NO money, but I can see how this is hurting us..

+1  It's too early for the market.  Or at least get rid of the high leverage options.

-1

All that happened was a few uberbulls got taught a lesson, and a few shorters got fucked as well on the rebound spike up.  Saw the upspike coming when the * popped up on the sell side down at 5.2.

We now have a higher portion of traders who are capable of not overleveraging themselves.  This is good for bitcoin.

+0   I understand the point and I think it is good that people have the option to use Bitcoinica (after all, it's a free market right?).  I also think people should be able to use drugs if they wish, but that doesn't mean that people using drugs is good for society.  It's good to have the choice, but not necessarily good to exercise that choice to commit to action.

While I don't consider myself a pessimistic person (I actually am one of the greatest optimists you can find), I do not trust the Bitcoin community in general to be careful with a Pandora's Box like Bitcoinica.  By careful, I mean responsible -- I don't trust that the majority of people are aware of the potential impact that their individual actions can have on the entire market.

My main problem is that it aids in pure speculation.  Bitcoin is treated by most as a gambling opportunity first and an evolved social development second.  But, Bitcoin's intended purpose was to be an evolved social development first and a gambling opportunity, well, never (at least it isn't implied in the white paper).

Basically, I'm just saying that the motivation that drives many users into Bitcoin is antithetical to the intended purpose of Bitcoin.  Of course, one could argue this by saying that it's in alignment with Bitcoin's intended purpose simply because Bitcoin is used.  I think at a certain level this is true, but at a systemic level it is not.  All systems require balance to achieve homeostasis, but Bitcoinica really fucks with the balance of systemic input and output.  It's a threat to destabilization.
3469  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] GeForce GTX550Ti 1 GB DDR5 on: January 18, 2012, 10:50:34 PM
If I was building a gaming computer would this card be good enough to play games like Skyrim on high detail?

I was playing Crysis 2 with it on highest settings and maxed out Anti-aliasing and 800x600 resolution with good framerate.

My specs for the computer were:
AMD quad core 2.4 ghz
4 GB ddr 2 ram
400w PSU
MSI 785GTM-E45 motherboard
The EVGA graphics card I am selling

My guess is that if I could play Crysis 2 with it and be happy, then you can play Skyrim on it and be happy, especially if your ram and processor are better than mine.

I've never played Skyrim, though.

If you have at least 2 PCIE x 16 slots on your motherboard, you could always buy another one brand new for $120 in addition to this one and link them together.  The only reason I upgraded from it anyway was because it isn't great for mining.
3470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] RealCoin - Targeted to the IM world! on: January 18, 2012, 10:38:48 PM
Thanks to all for your valuable input.

A more appropriate time to discuss the different aspects of it and try out the client would be at the launch.

Till then, i wish all of you the best.
Too late, you already torpedoed this project before the launch. Educate yourself a little better next time...or don't. You don't seem to be cut out for this world.

Dude, do you have anything kind to say to anyone ever?  The ridiculous leap you make between someones ambitious project and not being "cut out for this world" is not only unkind, but it's absolutely unfounded and therefore stupid.

I've seen a lot of your comments and you're not as intelligent as you think you are, regardless of the validity of your arguments --  that is, if you can refrain yourself from ad homs.   Concentrating on the faults of others only strengthens the suspicions I have regarding your perspective on life in general.  The world is cold, isn't it?

If not BTC then Dwolla.

Does it have major differences to Bitcoin atm except the mining algo? No.

Ok, so nothing big yet.

Quote
Will it have in the future? Yes.

What and why?  Be specific.

Quote
Why not implement them now instead of at a later stage? You have to start from somewhere familiar and there are also numerous applications, clients, functions and addons that have popped up lately (for example Electrum) that its really hard to select one and go with it. Also time plays an important role in this. To fully develop a working client like i and others would like it to be, might even take a year or more.

So, more or less what Bitcoin developers have been doing all along.

Quote
Why dont you just use Bitcoin or build on top of it? I do like Bitcoin a lot but i dont see it fulfill some very important needs. Right now i can only use it to speculate and you can see that it is a speculative tool on your own. No need for me to tell you that.

You can also use Bitcoin to buy things.  You can neither speculate upon nor buy RealCoin yet.  Won't there be only speculation when the RealCoin exchange opens and there is no economy supporting it?

Quote
Lets all think of PayPal. Why is PP accepted everywhere? Because it is user-friendly and simple to use both from the merchant's side and the consumer's.

Ok, and Bitcoin is specifically designed to address this issue.  The point is that it's still growing and becomes more user friendly as more people accept it.  RealCoin faces the exact same hurdle.  You're talking about a more user friendly client, not a more user friendly currency.

Quote
Now Bitcoin could become a decentralized PP in terms of having all the advantages (or most of them) of PP but also being decentralized which is great.

Right.  And as everything you have mentioned is completely vague and/or opaque, we don't know RealCoin is decentralized.

Quote
Now ask yourself.

Has it become something like this or at least get close to it? No.

Bitcoin already DOES have the advantages.  It takes time to develop the economy.

Quote
Will it become? I dont know.

Already is.

Quote
Who decides what it will become? The core team who is developing it. Dont tell me that you actually have a say in what the client is or is not.

You better believe the Bitcoin core developers keep the client's users in mind.  Isn't it smarter to consider what people want if you want them to use your client?  Feedback is wonderful.

Quote
Is it user-friendly? Hmmm. Somewhere in the middle between Yes and No.

Could it be more user-friendly? Sure.

I agree on both accounts.

Quote
Would a regular average user benefit from a very simple tool that works like PP but is also under his own control? Definitely.

Like Bitcoin?

Quote
Would a merchant or a consumer or a business owner benefit? Of course.

Like by using Bitcoin?

Quote
Why doesnt Bitcoin fulfill this need? Probably because it might do it in the future but right not is focusing on other stuff.

Focusing on other stuff like...development?  Ever heard of Bit-Pay?  Regardless, you're still talking about an economy, not a currency.  Currencies do not act and are not focusing on other stuff.  You have no say in the creation of the economy except an exchange should you choose to make one.

Quote
Are there numerous functions on top of Bitcoin that make it better than just the client itself? Yes. Numerous.

Like?

Quote
Why are they not implemented into the client (apart from the technical side)? Maybe different goals.

Are you talking about the currency or the client?  Are you talking about changing the currency itself midway through?  Is there something that a magical client can do to enhance your currency that cannot also be implemented into the Bitcoin client?

Quote
Does Bitcoin has a Paper where the next steps that will be taken are clearly outlined? I am not aware of one.

That's because its a free market.  You really want to tell people how to specifically develop an economy in a free market?

Quote
There are numerous other questions.

Oh yes, I have some as well...

Quote
The important thing is that the more alt coins fail the more stronger Bitcoin gets. So whenever someone like me or someone else posts an announcement on a new coin dont go crazy.

So, wouldn't the failure of RealCoin aid Bitcoin?  Why are you making this again?  I thought you said RealCoin isn't meant to compete against Bitcoin?

Quote
Lastly as i said in the beginning of this thread, why not be friends? Maybe in the future there is a function, utility, service developed in the RLC network that is good for BTC use and is adopted.

Friends maybe, business partners no.  And, as you stated above, maybe terminating the network would make Bitcoin stronger (according to the reasoning you provided).

Quote
Also as you might have understood although the client might be really close to the BTC client, the economics behind RLC are different and there are some new ideas implemented. So look at this project as a way to research the side of economics rather than the pure source code and i am pretty sure that there will be important things that will come out of this.

What economics?  What economy?  What new ideas implemented where?

"...a way to research the side of economics rather than the pure source code..."  -- No.  Source code first or I have no interest in using ever.

Quote
Closing, i would like to say for once more that a DIFFERENT target/goal/aspiration/etc makes a DIFFERENT coin since the approach as well as the execution will be different.

What different target/goal/aspiration?  Difference is not a good enough reason to have a new currency.  We must have a very good to believe the currency itself (and not the approach and execution) will be significantly better.  If not, it's much more worth your while to take your ingenious approach and execution and apply it to Bitcoin.

screwed. I'm out of BTC for good.   except maybe when I need some to buy something.

You let a price drop kick you out of Bitcoin? ...

Oh well, guess we're weeding out these folks.

+1

Bitcoin is not about exchange gambling.  Many people got a hard reminder of that.
