You could also use bitmarket...
362  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Btcinstant.com | Buy any items online with your Bitcoins! on: November 20, 2011, 06:14:49 AM
At first I thought that this was a new service provided by bitinstant, but then I noticed the subtle difference.

This is a very interesting idea, but I have a few questions:
- What do I type in the "Credit Card Name" field?
- What if I want to purchase something worth more than $50?
- If my item costs less than the amount I have in the card, can I still spend the rest in another purchase? (I suppose that I can't get the money back...)

Could you also tell us something about your company? I mean, who are you, where is your office, phone number, etc.? The site is pretty empty. Looks like one of those sites running from someone's basement.
363  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where's your wallet if you're just getting coins from a pool? on: November 20, 2011, 05:12:51 AM
The wallet.dat is located in: C:\users\user name\app data\roaming\bitcoin  on the computer you have your client on.

And this file contains all the private keys for your addresses
364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I will be interviewed about Bitcoin on more than 100 Radio stations! on: November 19, 2011, 03:31:05 AM
If I was going on the Oprah Winfrey show

Now this would be something. Cool
365  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto X Change - Buy order 124btc @ $2.29 ... on: November 19, 2011, 02:28:43 AM
Our trade engine currently runs quite a few security checks on each trade, and this can create a lag between when the order posts and when it fills. Some of these checks are unnecessary, but as the site just launched we're taking all precautions. The engine will get much faster over time.

I assume that you run these checks before showing the order in the orderbook?

Newbie question...

Say I want to bet that Bitcoin will fall to 1.95 in the next 24 hours, how do I do that?

I'm currently reading up on different types of positions, but I'm struggling to get my head round it when I'm this tired!

Thanks  Smiley

Just keep in mind that you can easily lose a lot of money in Bitcoinica. If you are not familiar with it, you should try it first with smaller amounts of money.
367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: That forum and google on: November 18, 2011, 07:50:40 PM
You do know Google uses information they have about you to make your searches more efficient right?  Everyone is gonna get different results, particularly those who visit this forum since Google will rank sites you have visited higher.
They still do that?

Yes. And it is different for each country. I used to get that "I got hacked" thread as a top result, but now I don't even see it in the first page.
368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGox daily withdrawal $250 in BTC but $1000 in cash - RIDICULOUS! on: November 18, 2011, 06:32:02 PM
Um if the coins are worth less, then it takes more coins to equal the same transaction value.

It would be like saying your boss is going to give you a pay raise by paying you in $10 bills instead of $100 bills.  You get 10x as many pieces of paper so you must be getting paid more right?

The transaction volume is in Bitcoins. The fees were announced on August 24th when bitcoins were worth $10. If you traded $5000 per month in August, you had 0.5% fees (500 coins). Right now you will get 0.3% fees for moving the same $5000 per month (10000 coins).
369  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGox daily withdrawal $250 in BTC but $1000 in cash - RIDICULOUS! on: November 18, 2011, 06:19:31 PM
How exactly is a % based fee cheaper now?

Because with the same amount of money you move a lot more coins now that prices went down. The fee percentage is based on your trading volume in BTC.
370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGox daily withdrawal $250 in BTC but $1000 in cash - RIDICULOUS! on: November 18, 2011, 06:11:27 PM
This limit was set when the price was higher, just like the transaction fees (I don't see anyone complaining about cheap fees though).

Anyway, I also think that it doesn't make much sense. One simple option I would like MtGox to have in order to protect against some attacks is confirmation by email on withdrawals.
371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I will be interviewed about Bitcoin on more than 100 Radio stations! on: November 18, 2011, 04:12:40 PM
My personal view of Bitcoin is different from this, but this is probably related to my political opinions, which are not worth discussing.

For me, Bitcoin is a non-proprietary easy way of sending money over the Internet to anyone the world. It's important that they can't be counterfeited and I like the fact that they are not controlled by a single company, but I don't agree with the most of your points. I think that people should pay taxes and Bitcoin is not an excuse for tax evasion. And ideas like "in 10 years the government will have no control over money because Bitcons will rule the world" are complete non-sense to me. But of course that I respect your opinion and those points will probably please the listeners.

Just don't make Bitcoin look bad (i.e. don't be annoying).

lol, yeah, if bitcoin looked bad people would probably take lots of money out of it and crash the price.  We don't want that.

Bitcoin is in its early stages of development and not even the developers recommend that you put money into it. We have years ahead of us to mature the software and trim the edges.

It is perfectly understandable that Wikipedia does not want to accept Bitcoin right now. They might accept it in the future though (unless you piss them off so much that they don't want to hear about it ever again).
374  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Run the Bitcoin Client? on: November 16, 2011, 09:17:24 PM
1) Run the client w/ port 8333 open on firewall
2) Done.

You are providing support to the network.

You might have to forward ports if your router does not support UPnP

376  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you short bitcoins while in parallel keeping a long position? on: November 16, 2011, 06:21:28 PM
It seems like it would make sense for me since I'm doing arbitrage.  In order to do that I need to keep an inventory of bitcoins.  It would be nice to hedge that inventory with a short position on Bitcoinica so I don't have to worry as much about price declines killing my profits.

But if prices go up, your call is liquidated and you lose money, right? I also don't understand shorting very well and bitcoinica's spread is weird...
377  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Run the Bitcoin Client? on: November 16, 2011, 03:15:37 PM

For now... What if/when we reach VISA volume of transactions.

There are much more important scalability problems that must be solved before that happens.

They already stated that they won't accept them.

379  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you buy a 0.1 BTC Casascius Physical Bitcoin as a giveaway? on: November 16, 2011, 04:05:26 AM
I ordered 1BTC coins right because of giveaway to people who I'm introducing to bitcoins. As I'm not organizing big sessions where I need to give away tens or hundreds coins, I don't care about 1BTC per coin; I appreciate that they come with some security (hologram), they looks nice and presentee knows that this coin have some value. So - no, I'm not a target audience for buying 0.1 coins...

I kind of agree with you. 1 bitcoin is not that much and if the price trend continues, 0.1 bitcoins will become meaningless. Maybe a scratch off card would be a better redeemable gift. It would probably be cheaper to make and easier to see whether the coins are redeemed or not.

I think that Casascius is tired of making all those coins by hand and wants to get a machine that does all the work Tongue
380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you buy a 0.1 BTC Casascius Physical Bitcoin as a giveaway? on: November 16, 2011, 12:20:50 AM
I also like the idea, but I think that it would be better if there was a simpler/faster way of redeeming the coin. Why don't you use the mini-key format?
