361  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: August 11, 2013, 03:56:48 AM
Lowering of frequency with auto avalon is a result of it trying to maintain a certain temperature as well, yes?

What would be the conclusion if a particular machine hashes at over 80, but slowly declines to the mid 70s lowering frequency? Lack of adequate cooling?
362  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: Pakistan on: August 11, 2013, 03:54:15 AM

I am so sad Sad

Go to the doc, get a lot of "legal drugs", come back zombie ! You won't have to feel sadness or happiness, just the bliss of neutrality as they med you up!

This is sarcasm in case anyone is dense.

I just want to understand whether BitFunder is a legit platform and if there is recourse if dividends don't pay out as promised

I do not personally use it (I prefer btct.co), however it appears to be legit as far as a platform from what I understand. Many utilize it. But recourse? My best advice is to only invest what you can afford to lose - there likely is no recourse for such a scenario. I take it back, the best advice is to research what you are investing into.
365  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MINING on: August 11, 2013, 03:47:50 AM
Think of mining as payment processing in the fiat banking world (that's done by gateways and payment processors). BTC miners process transactions by using specialized hardware/software, use their electricity to do so, and in turn are paid a reward.
Q: does this mean that the person who has the biggest computer will mine the most...who regulates the amount of bitcoins that can be produced?  thanks for your comment,,i appreciate it.

Yes, in a respect the "biggest hasher wins", but that is what pools are for - to combine minor miners who can't solo with larger miners who also can't solo (or can, but choose pool mining).

However, no "one" controls the minting. It is in the protocol. It can't be changed, unless a large consensus is reached by users to switch to a new protocol of sorts.

For the first ~4 years, 50 BTC per block. Ah the glory days. Late last year, the halving occurred, lowering the amount to 25 BTC per block. In approximately 2016, we will halve again to 12.5 BTC per block.. until there are no more coins being minted.

To answer the obvious and subsequent question - when you send BTC and a transfer fee is taken out, this is added to the current block payout.

So say the next block provides 25 BTC, say I was the only one to send a transaction that block and added a .005 btc miner fee, that would be included in the reward for that block. The actual payout would be the default 25 BTC + any transaction fees (in this case, payout would be 25.005 to a pool or anyone who found the block). In the future, transaction fees should be fairly lucrative, as more people begin to utilize BTC, by the time the block reward is zero, transaction fees should be incentive to secure the network.

When this IceDrill IPO Fails (And it more than likely will with >5M Shares left and less than 26 hours left)

There will be >3000BTC that might be put into various other securities including ActM.

Will there be a sharp price increase? Maybe!

That money will probably roll in just like the S.DICE payout, right? Should be any day now.

Has that still not happened? wow

I think he was being sarcy.  Maybe the money went into Icedrill. lol

Here is an great video posted on the Let's Talk Bitcoin! website with Adam B. Levine interveiwing Jeffrey Paul aka Sneak.

It's on topic and I would love to hear some responses to what's being discussed.

This is a cool video. But what's up with that picture? ^

From a game named "Prototype", it was a joke.

I speculate—this 'news' 'opinion' will matter not one iota.

I speculate — the smugger the commentary about the fundamentals of this bear market the longer the depression gonna last.

Do you really think anything we say here on this forum has any effect on the market?

Really?

It has some result. The market is created by individuals. Individuals make decisions (sometimes) based on data they are exposed to or search for. If individuals were to come here, it is entirely plausible (and in fact, IMO, occurring all the time) they would read statements by various forum members, reputable or not and make market decisions on that, therefore having a result on the market.

No?

It is a matter of scale.

On that I would agree.

Good luck catching a high-value criminal target without engaging in criminal behavior as an informant to gain trust.

Sounds good to me. Let's let the justice system do it's work instead of engaging is Stasi like behavior. Or no?

And perhaps that is arguable. If that's all they were doing. Instead they take kids to jail by selling them drugs, allowing the seller to sell, or selling them themselves. Alternatively, they are on the other side of the coin - buying "illegal" substances. I'm sorry - but why exactly can you possess or distribute these substances if Joe Sixpack doesn't pass GO and hangs out in a cell for doing the same innate action.

Don't buy it. That isn't American, as far as I am concerned. Governmental agencies should not be allowed to engage in crime or facilitate it. However the type of lackluster response most people give (oh, hard murder.. oh just a "terrorist", or just a "druggie") allows them to more easily facilitate much larger crimes (PRISM? Gun Runner..? List goes on indefinitely) over time. The mentality of "it's for the bad guys" HAS to go.
371  Economy / Economics / Re: Why would Bitcoin deflationary philosophy good since 1929 was due to deflation? on: August 11, 2013, 03:12:18 AM
OP - you should study more about the depression. Some things to look in to - 15 years earlier, the establishment of the Federal Reserve, bubbles popping..  You may find that the reason our economy suffers from constant boom and bust is, perhaps, because of an entity doing market work. Forcing markets into certain conditions only lasts for so long. Eventually the market will correct. And it did. And has many times, but it is difficult for the market to function in non free market conditions.

Yes, I agree, Bitcoin's deflationary standard will appear much more in line with logic once you observe the massive failure of many fiat paper standards in the coming years.
372  Economy / Goods / Re: Come in and Trade Ammo or Talk about Guns! on: August 11, 2013, 03:10:35 AM
What is the decay date on ammunition? How long would you want to maintain it in storage prior to an ill effect resulting? If it is as long as I expect it may be, I could have quite a bit of ammunition for you fellows. It was removed from our store when we closed it, so I have quite a lot.

Also, I'd love to acquire a rifle.

Great news, I know the feeling!

Welcome to Bitcointalk! I'd say enjoy the rabbit hole, but if you've been lurking a long time, you're already at least peeking your head down there. :p
375  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What mining pool/mining software do you guys use? on: August 11, 2013, 03:05:17 AM
@Bit I'm mining BTC just as you guessed.  Shocked

Feel free to ask any questions or PM me. I'm greatly interested in helping new people interested in mining if you need help setting up or configuring.  This is the sort of help I received en mass when I first came here over a year ago. I like to think I can try to pass that on - when I came to this community, it was welcoming, accepting, and a learning center! So any time someone is looking to learn about entry or BTC, I can't help but smile and want to aid.
376  Other / Politics & Society / Re: FBI Authorized 5600 Crimes in 2011 on: August 11, 2013, 03:01:56 AM
I agree, it is perverted, but it doesn't change the FBI's policy.

No, that duty is upon Americans to halt unethical behavior within government.

What if their "policy" changed? And the "policy" included a plethora of things that you felt infringed by. Would it just be protocol or "policy" then..?

The bottom line is that crimes should not be committed in order to catch criminals. It is a fundamental failure of how a justice system should work as far as I am concerned.
377  Other / Meta / Re: Sad on: August 11, 2013, 03:00:21 AM
This forum is broken. It's meant to be a place for people new to Bitcoin to talk & understand what the big deal is.

When I joined this forum not long ago, I remember finding some great threads in here & attempting to get involved. It was good.

Now this place is just becoming a joke. Money hungry gambling sites, alt coins etc. are just spamming giveaways and other stuff. Their giveaways are giving away literally nothing, and makes the whole Bitcoin community seem like desperate kids attempting to get their hands on minuscule amounts of BTC.

Can we please fix this?
you must be joking. this is the "soul" of btc dude. gambling  promoted a lot of btc awareness. have a look at satoshi's dice.

about the alt coins, only a troll that knows nothing could say such thing. It's not by coincidence they are here. btc is open source and can be cloned. it's meant to be cloned. altcoins and btc have a symbiotic relation. alt coins discussion must stay here. I would even suggest to create child boards for the most important ones, such as ltc & etc.

A+! I agree, these are important aspects of this community for me.

Help needed! Has anyone used Bitfunder before? i want to get into this mining IPO.

What appears to be the problem?
379  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MINING on: August 11, 2013, 02:58:27 AM
i understand gold and silver mining, but bitcoin mining, not so much.  what is the product being produced?  is bitcoin mining a "made up" action to give worth to the process of running a computer efficiently?

im new,,,thanks for your help

Mining serves two purposes - one to "mint" or generate a new block of coins every ten minutes (the "mining" doesn't do this, mining the blocks allows the minting to occur) in order to distribute the coin to the network or the "wild". This is a reward for the miner, as he is also securing the network by adding hashpower and seeking coins. Some people do mine only for the purpose of further decentralization and not for profit. The more miners, or hashers, the less likely a 51% attack on the network, so not only does it generate coin, but secures the network in a very important and critical fashion.

If you have any more specific questions, I'd be glad to attempt to answer them or point you to the right resources.
380  Other / Politics & Society / Re: FBI Authorized 5600 Crimes in 2011 on: August 11, 2013, 02:54:51 AM
Not a big deal, as long as it's not a homicide, it's fair game for the FBI.

Really?

So, it's just dandy for FBI to say, bag up and sell drugs as long as they're catching someone? Is there not some cognitive dissonance going on here?

This is just the FBI. In one year. The US Governmental authority figures, such as the FBI and LEOs, commit countless crimes every year, there is no justice in this system, it is perverted.
