361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / GFX card and PSU upgrade... on: March 01, 2017, 12:39:15 AM
HI, so i currently have an AOPEN AX500-A power supply it says 460 Watt and 500 Watt peak.
I have tried sites like Jonyguru but i really find it very unfriendly. I typed in a couple of power supplies i am looking for and it doesn't find results.

I currently have the MSI A88X G43 motherboard with AMD Athlon X4 860K and 16GB ram at 1866 but for the love it me it only runs at 1333 i really cant believe this with today's technology, you pay so much for this stuff and its always
compatibility issues- I have actually forced my bios to recognize it as a 1866 frequency memory , not sure how this makes a difference or if it even does, i would imagine the best is if the bloody thing was recognized in the first place..... and finally have an amazing TOP of the range GTX650.

Bear in in mind 8 months ago i was still on Socket 939 with DDR1 memory and a 9800 GT....and maybe 10 month before that i was on Athlon XP 2500+ with AGP 7800. Top of the range.

My question is coming, but i am trying to give the details of what my experiences are and what i want to get to , please.
I would like to get a better PSU such as a 550Watt but then somebody told me rather get a better one like a 600 or 650 or even 700/750 Watt.

Only problem is that i am limited here with what i can get for my money.

I would really appreciate it somebody can assist me in finding one or narrowing down from what i have found.

If i could just find a simple site where you can compare PSUs side by side then it will make it easier for me.

so first off i reckon getting a good warranty would be great BUT if you guys reckon the item is so good it doesn't even need
Warranty , then ill take your word for me.

I have found these of the following which i can afford. My price range is around 1000 to 1500 Rand which is ZAR (www.xe.com)

www.takealot.co.za and www.loot.co.za are the only sites i can buy from in this scenario.

I have found these PSUs to be interesting.. I reckon i should go more than 600 Watts , so would 650 do it OR should u really go as high as 700 + :

http://www.takealot.com/cooler-master-gm750w-80-modular-power-supply-black/PLID34186400 (seems like a lot of cash for me)
Maybe this is a better option, i dont think i am a nerd enough to argue why i need modular... i guess semi modular is also very nice.
http://www.takealot.com/cooler-master-vangaurd-v750-series-750w-semi-modular-power-suppl/PLID34188986
http://www.takealot.com/aerocool-650w-vx-power-supply/PLID41402611
http://www.takealot.com/antec-vp700p-700w-power-supply/PLID41397459
http://www.takealot.com/fsp-aurum-s-700watt-power-supply/PLID41165566
http://www.takealot.com/aerocool-650w-vx-power-supply/PLID41402611
for me 1500 rand is really alot of money for me but if you guys reckon it is important to have a good PSU i guess i need to byte the bullet. I was actually going to originally buy a graphics card like an RX460....

I do have future plans to get 2x RX470 graphics cards by Power Color.
I have noticed that there are a few mixed reviews on how much wattage you should have for x amount of graphics cards.

Anyways if you guys can assist me in please find a decent power supply from the list above AND HOPEFULLY it is a vital component for the PC to run efficiently ?

Appreciate you going through the list of the PSUs i found above....
I reckon for me, getting 8pin and 6 pin PCI-e, is essential as apparently you do not want to play with Molex to 6/8 pin connectors so i was told.
I wanted to ask the experts online like you guys in this community, thanks.

I would like to be running 2 graphics cards in my system with possibly a 3rd and 4th in future using PCI Risers,
I just cant afford to buy and make a mistake.... perhaps i need to get a decent 500 Watt or maybe the one i have ia already fine and it is just about me finding another gfx card now to insert in to another old Intel 775 i have... its very very slow though it does have a PCI-E slot. I also have my ancient X2 4400+ socket 939 motherboard which i can put a card in to ?

Then again do i really want to run 3 machines and waste power, where i can just run one which more newer technology (my current one)

this site is dead.

anyone can recommend on a high paying faucet instead?

Topfan.info and Faucetrun are the only ones i know which are good BUT i dont know how legit this is and if it is paying.
U know these fucking websites why dont the people be honest with everybody and see to it that everybody does get what they deserve.
Everybody puts hours in to this stuff because they can not afford to buy coins or dont have the hardware to mine it because it is so expensive in the first place.

This faucet and https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1104959.0 (jetcoin) is long dead. You are not going to get paid for your dedication.

I cant believe these mutherchodes also they are not paying, really.
We spend so much time on this.

What are you doing now Krishna? any good new faucet which is actually working?
Jetco.in and TopFan.info are the best i have found but they are really bastards for not allowing to withdraw.

Faucetrun is also good BUT i am not sure how to claim and i hope it is real.

368  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Graphics card for beginner miner on: February 24, 2017, 01:16:11 PM
460s aren't really worth it if you're trying to start a farm. even if you get them for $70, you'll end up paying more compared to 470s due to needing more boards/psus/cpus etc.
480s aren't worth it either, 4gb model is not really faster than 470 in eth and uses more power. 8gb model is only a little faster, but costs a lot more.
Nvidia cards are a bit riskier because they're not really good at mining eth for the price, and zec (which nv does ok in) is more likely to tank than eth. They are expensive but efficient in general.

Hi thanks for your replies... everybody..... now....
i guess the RX470 is the best then... and i will get the 4GB model... maybe i should stop stressing, i have been thinking about his for 2 weeks now.
Will it be good for me to get 2 of them  and run them together.... i have an MSI A88X G43 motherboard..... with an AMD X4 860K CPU  and 16GB ram not sure if ram is important...also really strange as the 8GB of ram is showing a strange FSB and it should be 1866 megahertz im not sue maybe im looking in the wrong place....
also my CPUs is very sad but please bear in mind i came from AMD Athlon 2500+ form like 10 years ago! with DDR1.... and AGP7800
Anyways my CPU is sad because i only get like 110 hashes per second on Aeon or 50to 55 hashes per second when mining XMR...   i just chose those, i dont really have a clue which to mine...
Anwyays its very sad that this cpu is so slow , i seriously cant believe it. and i just bought the stuff like 8 months ago... so yeh very sad about it.
If you can please help me understand my RAM issue and guide me and also comment  on the CPU...

Anyways... next thing, why is there so much hype about Ethereum and Zec, not sure what Zec is....

I wish i could just go buy a i5 or i7 fuck i dont know how people do and where they get the money from.

so to confirm, u reckon getting an RX460 or even 2 of them its pointless ?   and that goes for GTX 960 OC Gigabyte brand IT ONLY HAS 2 GB of ram... hmm probably the RX460 i saw also has 2 GB only....
the best bet would be the RX470

and also another one please.... if i get the RX470 does the brand matter?
I have seen great deals for my pocket... for the HIS and the POWERCOLOR brands....   the HIS is like 100 Rand or ZAR cheaper for me....  it also looks decent also seems to be Asia founded, could be wrong...
I mean i am not sure if i must really get proper stuff like the exact name like Saphire and Nitro and Strix whatever.... and they seem to be more pricey....
I can send u the links of my sites i go to...
www.wootware.co.za is one of them and the best here for me, they have the best prices , really.

Thanks for reading, and i am just only trying to give details so apologies if it is long
appreciate the help and feedback

I would recommend to buy a AMD RX480 with 8 GB memory. So you can mine ETH and XMR with it.

Will you be okay if i buy 2 graphics cards?
Can i buy 2 RX460?  ( so to confirm , is 2 Rx460 going to be okay or not really strong enough for 6-9 months future proof ?)
Is it better to buy 2 RX470 ?

I am on budget... but i want to try, really.

you could buy this card

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129324

a good price below

https://www.amazon.com/VisionTek-Radeon-GDDR5-DVI-D-Graphics/dp/B01KDYKD9A/ref=sr_1_1?

it is small and runs well I had four of them

HI, looks advanced for me, i dont seem to understand how you connect all the graphics cards?
I have a case but and a board which support 2 cards, but i see i do have another 3 smaller PCIE sockets not sure what those are called.
I dont know how or where to the connectors for them to the cards? is this right  that you connecting them like this?

that mother board is 4 slots it is on sale right now

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138421&cm_re=biostar_z170-_-13-138-421-_-Product

use code   022BW44 and it is 82 dollars

I unfortunately dont live on any particularly amazing part on earth, well we are not even listed on the world map as far as i am concerned or wait, rather the rest of the word doesn't recognize us.
So newegg superbiz and frys and amazon are out for me, maybe not really amazon because i can get somebody from the UK bring it for me , but normally the UK prices are ALWAYs worse than the american prices.
I can send you some links and you can check for me if you dont mind?  my pc parts sites i use and maybe you can recognize something cool ?
I suppose maybe i should also send you my current pc specs?

Hi,

I can basically get 50% off a graphics card because of this points system i have accumulated on my credit card for years.
They will expire so i figure i should use them now.

I have a goal to try buy a better card in the future and also a better power supply, for now i do not have the budget for that.

I would like to know though of the following cards  which would be basic or okay for mining just in general ?
Is it always AMD first ?

I have the GTX 1050 in mind, not sure if i can manage the ti version but lets go with the vanilla option for now.
I then have the GtX 950 or Gtx 960 forgot which one, Gigabyte brand.
I also have the Radeon RX460 in mind... not sure which but perhaps the Saphire or something.

Of those which would you suggest i get ?
Many thanks i advance.

Obviously release of this card will substantially affect on the second hand market of RX 480. When do you think it will be the best moment to sell ours used RX 480 cards?

Surely it is still ages before the RX490 comes out?
lol

I still have to get an RX470 or Rx480 i have not decided yet - having a very hard time.
4GB 8Gb and then 2x cards or not and then the RX470 using less power ...i dont know im really stuck deciding.
375  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / AMD X4 860K - which miner on: February 17, 2017, 01:00:54 AM
Hi,

I am new to this world and it is pretty exciting but also very frustrating trying to learn the commands and understanding what is wrong with the binaries or syntax and or what is wrong with the server.
Anyways i am just trying to start off with my computer and i want to see what i can mine or what is even worth while trying to mine.

I do have an account and worker with litecoinpool.org and then an account with nicehash.com is not really needed it appears u need to only use a bitcoin address as the username.worker1 and the password can be anything.

For my AMD X4 860k i was wanting to know what is he best performing miner i can use and against what server and what algorithm.
I hope i asked it correctly?

Thanks.
376  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / GPU to mine basic anything? - beginner? on: February 03, 2017, 03:50:47 PM
Hi,

so i dont want to be a millionaire, its just for fun that i would like to try this out. Maybe even donate CPU / GPU to BOINC projects as well in the future.
Im definitely not a rich person , but i would like to get a GPU to start mining and understanding learning.

I currently have a GTX650 , but i was considering getting a decent Radeon instead of nVidia.
So i was thinking to get a RX 460 card ? is this silly or should i just get a better card like a RX 480.
I see for the RX 480 there is a 4gb version and a 8 gb version, is there much of a muchness?

Powercolor AXRX 480 4GBD5-3DHD Radeon RX 480 Red Dragon 4GB GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 Desktop Graphics Card
versus
PowerColor Axrx 480 8gbd5-3dh Radeon Rx 480 Red Devil 8GB 256bit Gddr5 Pci-e 3.0 Desktop Graphics Card

Unsure if the rest of my system is important in terms of specification, but i have just come from the world of Socket 462 AMD Athlon 2500+; AGP 7800 ; and DDR1 ram , so this is completely new to me.

Many thanks, and i hope to be able to join and contribute to those that are already digging for diamonds.

377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD or NVIDIA? on: February 02, 2017, 08:31:10 PM
I prefer AMD over NVIDIA I've been using AMD for last 5 years never had any problems.

K cool, and with regards to the other questions like missing the boat and or the card range i should go for .... 460 - 480  1050 - 1060 ?
Also i wanted to ask , how important is name brand...
Thanks
378  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD or NVIDIA? on: February 02, 2017, 08:09:52 PM
I am really keen to get the RX480 , although i am used to Nvidia for years now.
On the other hand i have an AMD machine but with a discrete AMD CPU.
I want to get a new card from what i have now which is the GTX 650.
I never ever knew about coin mining and i feel like an idiot.
If i were to get myself a Radeon RX460 graphics card or a GTX 1050 / ti then is it still possible for me to make even small pocket change?
Like i was expecting maybe 80 Dollars a month.
Have i completely missed the boat?

Would i be better off rather buying GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 480 instead?

Still undecided on which one, but it seems like what i see the Radeon is better at this stuff, though i am not experienced and i also hope i will be able to understand this 1st world stuff and be able to mine.

Many thanks
379  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.13.2 Released on: January 31, 2017, 10:15:13 AM
Hi, forgive me for asking, but i dont understand even after reading on various sites, what the purpose of this Bitcoin Core - Wallet is?

Its a wallet and a full node. Thus running it you dont rely on anyone else, the client confirms all information on its own.

I have a Bitcoin address with a site called Luno  (not Luna).
It is a long number starting with .....

... with? 1, 3 would be common prefixes for addresses, 5, L and K for private keys.

SO now how and what is the use of this Bitcoin Core application, it is just another means of how to get a wallet?

You currently use a service, not a wallet. You have no control over your private keys. If the company offering the service is gone tomorrow, so are your coins. Its no different than a bank, well a bank probably has more laws to follow than a bitcoin service. This is not only true for bitcoin core, which requires you to download the entire blockchain, but also for other wallets like e.g. electrum and multibit hd.

I dont know what they mean when they say YOUR WALLET ADDRESS on those command line utilities.
I mostly get authentication errors, such a pain to work with.

Sorry its an all-sorts post.

"Command line utilities"? Not sure what your question is, can you rephrase?

So i think i understand you better.
Do you mean that i can have the Bitcoin Core wallet installed on my desktop and then that provides me with a coin address?
So i do not have to use the Luno.com bitcoiin id ?
Not sure i know how to set it up...
I have allowed the program to stay open for a few hours and i can see now the synchronization is complete...it doesnt say 5 years behind anymore so i take it that is a good thing.

I have tried so many utils now and some are being up by my antivirus as a Artemis! trojan/virus ...not sure.
I have downloaded them from sites that look kosher and or also from github so i take it this is a false positive.
As for using them and actually making them work , what a bloody head ache.
I can not get any of them to work, the only one wihch does seem to work is Minderd.exe and Cudaminer.exe which are running through a gui i downloaded called Easy miner. I am also using a pool called litecoinpool. It has something like stratum+tcp://litecoilpool.org:3333  as the host name to mine against.
It seems to like my log in also.

Now as for the other tools like SGMiner and CGMiner God knows whats going on , all sorts of errors or warnings about SETX or SET and environment variables and then it doesnt even connecgt or it looks like it does and then it sits there doing something or nothing?  and then i dont know why the heck the screen clears and also why it doesnt tell u anything is wrong.... only when i press control-c then it shows me the error like could not connect.

I need some guidance here please, i am going nuts i cant handle this i dont know what i am doing wrong and maybe i am following the wrong sites or tutorials.
Either the guide is outdated and my version is different and then i also noticed with Slushpool they say that only certain utilities work with them and then again when you use the guis like nicehashminer they seems to work BUT how the hell does it know how u are? because u could be mining for nothing.

I really dont understand this , its driving me mad, i really just want to give as much detail as i can to whoever is going to help me and get me on my feet with this.
I also want to report enhancements or experience to the developers of these tools because im sure they can make them more robust .

Thanks for reading
