Mining isn't a charity and it's not like NYA actually agreed to subsidize miners to point their hashrate at S2X chain.  So people are only going mine the more profitable chain.

In fact, I find it interesting that Jihan Wu did not go thru the usual "blame Blockstream" routine in his interview.  He actually said that he is indifferent when it comes to tech issues such as scaling roadmap, segwit, etc..  He reserves the criticisms for Theymos, which is just down right bizarre.  Going so far as to answer, "You will have to ask Theymos for that", when asked which implementation does he think will end up being called Bitcoin in the end.

Of course, it could be that Jihan and Roger Ver has little credibility when it comes to technical issues, as the Core team is widely recognized as being the one with most tech credential and IQ (though with low EQ).  Or Jihan could simply be backtracking a bit, not wanting to be blamed when S2X fork end up being a total clusterfook.

After all, bitcoin's marketcap is now $100 billion and up 10x since the time when scaling debate really got heated.  So even if Jihan could not give a fook about the users, he has to care about some of the biggest VC names in the Silicon Valley, who had just given him $50 million.  If S2X turns out to be a disaster, Jihan will be blamed for the huge drop in bitcoin price and lose whatever little credibility he has in the industry.  Obviously, he does not want that.

But that could be his PLAN, IF price dumps badly ..he can be part of a btc roundtable like he was on the LTC roundtable...and reach consensus...in the mean time (just like LTC0 he has
all this NICE cheap crypto of any flavor again to scoop up....like he did wiht LTC.....now he could pull same stunt with BTC (or hell BCH for that manner) win/win/win

He comes out looking like a hero with others...forced to consensus due to massive price dump (assuming consensus was reached on a really big price dump and controversy) and clean up buying more coin low and it all rebounds off the FUD

You might as well go ahead and create a "petition" on change.org, I'm sure Bitmain folks will laugh their arses off just reading it.

Yes but would be really nice, imagine dedicated keccak with this thing.

Yeah would be great. Unfortunately our dreams don't count Smiley

no word on that x11 helium coin yet? probably won't make anything on that either but at least on a launch I could have LOTS...

(hey, lots of dubious coin crypto on a usb, takes up less room than hoarding cats...in my old age.....) Smiley

3723  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: November 05, 2017, 05:49:11 AM
Well..hopefully, folk have better than 12c elec like me

I get below...(dropping damn fast..the price is....) sheesh

https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/dash?HashingPower=17.5&HashingUnit=GH%2Fs&PowerConsumption=950&CostPerkWh=0.12

IF you can get 17.5gh for your unit..(me I get maybe 16.5gh on my unit) at 950 watts and 12c kwh electric...

Again, below is for 17.5gh (not my crummy gh)

It is NOW only $3.21 a day

I have a 2nd unit ..the supposed 19.2gh unit....assuming it all evens out in the wash for 2 units making double (with my loss of gh on one unit made up by the other)

I could than make DOUBLE (dare to dream) of

$6.42 a day!

Not looking like the $4,350.00 more or less on both units/ bitmain power supplies and shipping for the works to me and than the data hall...

well......sh*t

IF I'm lucky, and count ALL my x11 miners (like my Baikal 300mh cube for $900 w/shipping that I've made $1.5k profit on)

I just MIGHT get 1/2 my money back at this rate.....(mining prohash to LTC on all) and bettting on LTC.......and IF LTC doubles...maybe I can then

ego salvage my purchases of these D3's

Damn, that is long odds...not counting electric and gonna be a dubious method of ego protection

3724  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: First Asic for SIA - Obelisk SC1 on: November 04, 2017, 11:03:02 PM
Not really sure about the profitability of the SC1 anymore.
There are other players in the market and it will be a fight about who will prevail.

yeah, I only got mine for equip deduction...I'm at 50% tax rate this year....and the good old 25% you can take off in full for computer 5 year equip deduction (stimulus) the same year

thus for 25% more risk than paying IRS 50% of my crypto mining....with that 25% I can apply to my taxes due this year....I got some of these

IF they just make 25% back after expenses I"m essentially even, with the above considerations this year..then IF I just sucked it up and paid the tax man on mining

on the other hand

someone NEW and using fiat and $$$ not mining.....is getting 25% and the other 75% of the product is all risk....none of my real life/justifications....correct or otherwise

hardly fair but that is how it is shaking out for me this tax year...thus the purchase (dubious thou it was indeed) Sad

Have you looked into taking bonus or 179 depreciation on your equipment?  Bonus depreciation allows you to take an extra 50% in the current year and 179 allows you to take the entire amount in the current year.  Just a thought, but feel free to reach out if you want more information.

I think I was unclear. It is 25% real $$ saved off taxes I know I will owe. To get that all equip
deducted in this year. Thus the angle and again 50% on top of that to taxes if I don’t get equip
anyway.

$253.28

The amount before your electricity cost per month this piece of crap makes mining dash. Bitmain bent all of over and used no lube on this one.

Less than 1 Dash a month per machine.

0.1587 BTC at current btc rate is what 1 Dash would need to be worth to make 1 D3 earn 1000 usd per month.

Drink it in and realize we all were epically boned.

It is depressing...if I get F*cked at least I expect a nice dinner...a bit of dancing ...some flowers....I mean really ....no romance just 'screw you' Sad

3727  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Obelisk tech to release Miner for Decred with the DCR1 on: November 04, 2017, 05:33:35 AM
So cool if they can deliver on their promises and deliver on time.

Hope this doesn't become like butterfly labs. Bitmain has been the reputable source and the only one I can trust.

As much as I would like to jump in on the obelisk, I see a bit of a risk with if their's delays, frustrations and questioning if it's more profitable to buy Decred at current cheap price instead of waiting half a year after price gone up and now ur mining at higher mining difficulties.

Maybe I'll just buy one and pray for the best b/c i like decred and being the first batch to mine can be profitable if all the stars align.

ya, it's kinda rough, they are honestly nothing but promises and more asking for money over and over here Sad no real tangible anything yet it seems Sad
the minebox? not delivered, nothing but words, their next ask after that for money for the SIA ASIC months ago? having trouble filling orders, NOW they are asking for MORE money for a DCR ASIC? pfft, not from me!
by the time this stuff comes online it will be obselete, ill put my faith in tim from zeropond having his dcr asic first as well even ;p

other thing is you can ONLY get this pre-sale (whatever that means) discord miner before NOV 24th was it? Same for the miner they have had out for a bit

I'm begining to think I may only get 'the lousey T-shirt' they sent to the 1 first week order i got

not inspiring a lot of confidence in their products

3728  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: First Asic for SIA - Obelisk SC1 on: November 04, 2017, 05:31:36 AM

Perhaps this was obvious..but if you have more than one coupon you can only apply 1 coupon to 1 unit of any flavor...

I got an email on this....

thus most discount on any unit is $400 if you were 1st week and then #250 there after

I remember looking at this back when they launched and was sure they said 'per order' but live an learn

3729  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Obelisk Update #1 Sia ASIC on: November 04, 2017, 04:41:09 AM

Note to any obelisk owners or wanna be's

the coupon's in question (if you have more than one) only apply 1 coupon to 1 unit of any obelisk flavor

bummer..

*thus I'm not getting any more...seems cheesy*

FYI

3730  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Obelisk tech to release Miner for Decred with the DCR1 on: November 04, 2017, 04:39:47 AM
Bummed out....

you can only apply 1 coupon vs 1 unit

not worth it..holding what I have for units no more

guess the coupons are gonna just gonna fade ...with no use

3731  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 03, 2017, 05:50:59 AM
The only question is: will it peak at $25k, $35k or above $50k  Roll Eyes

You mean after the resolution of the next forking shenanigans, right?

Right now we are getting preforking pumps, and then we will likely get post forking pumps...

gosh?  I am thinking more on the lower end of your three scenarios.. but maybe I am just not bullish enough.. ?

I myself see maybe a 9k to 10k pre-forking pump...with a result of 3 flavors of bitcoin, with none holding 51% ..thus stalemate..thus post forking dump say to 6k or 5k, as
a result of NO resolution to all this yet....give any of the above 51% and we will blast past 10k imho....

Don't get me wrong, I'm still gonna hodl thru all this, just saying it is how Bitcoin rolls....(or has in the past, on this kinda stuff)

3732  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: November 03, 2017, 05:46:12 AM
I got my D3's last week which was earlier than expected.

I'm mining with my 4 D3's on prohashing and so far so good except for 1.

I need to reboot it since it dropped its hash rate. Crossing my fingers it's not a hardware issue.

I will probably switch to Dash pretty soon though!

Yes good idea, you guys should all really consider mining straight dash.. it will be alot better so dash price can move up a bit. Also try to hold the rewards, evolution release should be june 2018. Its going to be huge! We should see huge price gains for dash!.
Also remember dont join antpool for dash mining, they currently holding alot of hashing power and its getting pretty dangerous. Close to 50%.. spread it out to other dash pools or coinmine.pl which i highly recommend.

Keep the dash you mine and save it for the future..Consider it an investment..It will increase the overall value of dash and profit you in the long run.

my dubious 1st D3 and my D3 arriving monday are gonna just get on prohashing and add to my LTC accumulation...I figure that will have more pop then Dash at this point in time
as a ratio of 50 buck LTC (when BTC was 4.5K) vs now 50 buck LTC (with BTC at 7K)

anyway, my bet (for the time being)

current daily on one 17.5gh D3 at 950 watts and 12c kwh is $5.33 usd. (again this may be up to 15% higher on prohashing etc etc..but what I use for a baseline calculator)

https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/dash?HashingPower=17.5&HashingUnit=GH%2Fs&PowerConsumption=950&CostPerkWh=0.12

how low can it go?

edit: perhaps I should be mining the heck out of some dubious longshot x11 coin at this point? (of which I've no idea of any that make sense) sigh....
3733  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin from 11/1/17 to 5/1/18. What I'm betting on Price/Diff/Accumulation. on: November 03, 2017, 05:41:52 AM
Honestly if you look at most of the larger known crypto's right now and the move over the last year you could say the same thing.  You could just as easily have used Dash for this example and come to a similar conclusion.

It is really is a case of the rising tide for crypto as a whole has lifted everyone.  I don't think we can use this unusual period over the last year as a way to guess what is going to happen because there really isn't any rhyme or reason that actually is useful for analyzing where this goes.

I think if you park money in cryptos and even spread it around a little to hedge your bets then the long term probably looks pretty good.  I just need to get out of this habit of chasing the markets and follow your advice of saving more.  So I am trying to start straddling more and set aside some to save and still trying to grow my mining operations.

It is a difficult balance, but looking at the past year if I had held what I had invested or mined I would have been far better off than I am today as far as holdings are concerned vs what I have accomplished by recycling my earnings into more mining.  So when I look at it from that perspective I realize there is a lot of truth to what your talking about here in this post.  So I am trying to adjust my strategy now to reflect more holding.

Yeah...I agree if what I state is true it probably will apply to all cryptos....

2 points

1) I just would like 1,000 LTC again before I mine my miners into doorstops by say May 1st 2018 (again worst case senario they should last longer), because at one time I'd mined
16,000 LTC and of course converted to BTC like 99.99999% of everyone else back in the day

2) LTC also at least historically ....eventually rises when BTC does ..though slow and maybe even weeks later...on the other hand BTC dumps say 1/3 and LTC basically loses little
in variation to other alts (at least historically) so it kinda acts like a savings bond...don't fly up fast ..but does not dump hard like some other cryptos when btc chokes and dumps
again...historically speaking

so anyway, I have a btc hoard ...so as a hedge this is what I'm gonna work with from the miner point of view..I also have a few POS coins and some other stuff...not a lot.but
some diversification

anyway, some of my reasons as you can see from above are simply NOSTALGIC .....lol Smiley

Great to hear that campaign will be running for another 4 or 5 weeks. I like how it is handled (Thanks to Lauda) and would not like having to search for a new one.
It may run even longer, but I'll notify the participants in this thread whenever a change happens.

Note: I plan on doing my 30 posts a week, etc,etc

But been posting a LOT In the BTC speculation thread...it is just TOO DAMN MUCH FUN...watching stuff fly thru ATH for BTC!
...
As much fun as that thread may be, especially in times of bull runs, remember that there are no signatures shown there.

Yeah......just I'm gonna have a mess of posts there real time among my regular posts..more so than usual...if anyone looks...

well it was just $7k ...now down to $6.9k ...weird times this week Smiley

I address this point briefly on my thread on bitcointalk on my bet on how to hoard LTC till 5/1/18 as my mining goal.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2347546.msg23912819#msg23912819

this is a real possiblity that BTC forks of many flavors could be the new ICO and or ALT coin creation method....

Anyway, we will be the first to know I guess...(groan)
