ich hab auchschon drüber nachgedacht, ein paar hundert aufkleber zu bestellen, um damit ein paar ampeln und stromkästen zu verschönern.  Grin
382  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 37% difficulty increase (55590 to 76193) on: March 10, 2011, 12:18:51 AM
why so complicated?

i would say, it isn't a good idea anyway to base your average expectations on the number of blocks a given pool found a few days/weeks back, but rather on your hashrate, the pools comissions and the current difficulty.

at 10Mhash/s you'll need an average of 9090.5hours to create a block,
let's just say the pool takes 3% and due to network-overhead/-connectivity and invalid or stale hashes you lose another 2%,
then you'll need 9090.5hours to create 47.5BTC on the pool, that's what you can and should expect on average.

10M: 47.5/9090.5 = 0.00522BTC/hour or 0.125BTC/day

383  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: how to set up private pool? on: March 09, 2011, 05:42:10 PM
only public available pool-code afaik is jgarziks poold.py,
talk about it here.

all versions of poclbm see all 4 gpus with crossfire on.
all versions of poclbm SEE all GPUs on my system too,
but they don't WORK on all GPUs, the 2nd GPU only returns invalid results running the latest version.

lucky you if it works on your site, i never got it to run (with versions newer than 20101126).

well, you implemented PayPerShare, so you should calculate possible losses on your site for quite some time anyways,
not a good idea todo with an empty wallet.

During alpha test all payments are processed daily.
ok

We are closer to the start of payments
Huh
try to confuse me again, huh?
if i get that right, noone has been paid so far.
387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 4 months running miner, zero BTC generated on: March 09, 2011, 02:30:09 AM
you'll never see a BTC penny when mining on your own,
you'll either see 50BTC, or none.
if it takes you longer then the next ~100k blocks to create 1 block,
you'll either see 25BTC, or none.

you'll actually only ever see BTC pennies (or anything at your hashrate), if you join a mining-pool.

Can someone with Windows 7 64bit post that they use this please?

Also, my 2x5970 rig only works with crossfire ON fwiw
i never got poclbm to work with SDK 2.1 on windows, using 2.2 never causes any cpu-usage though.

and for your 5970-issue,
the prob on windows is, that you can not deactivate the internal-crossfire on 5970s and still use both GPUs.

to make poclbm run on both GPUs (with crossfire ON), i always used 2 different miner-versions,
-poclbm_<latest> on core1
-poclbm_20101126 on core2
which worked fine 'til i got bored and plugged my 5970 to an ubuntu-box.

one of my favourites too,
be sure to show tcatm some love.  Wink
390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Miners: a Conflict of Interest? on: March 08, 2011, 11:12:36 PM
the BTC community is mostly miners at this point,
says who? and how does he (that says) know?

and press will inevitably bring more miners into the system.
the more, the better.
the network gets stronger with more processing-power and it will be harder to attack.

http://bitcoincharts.com shows next estimated difficulty in <number of blocks>, besides other useful information.

yeah, i'm sure more stats will make things clearer.  Cheesy

394  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hey new miner here, looking for some feedback...thanks in advance on: March 08, 2011, 09:35:52 PM
if you only get <8 connections, you haven't forwarded port 8333 to the machine running bitcoin.
should work fine anyway,
for a generating-node (i guess you'r on a pool anyway) it would be better to have the port forwarded to get more connections, the more nodes you are connected to, the sooner you'll get noticed about new blocks and the less you'll work on solving stale blocks.
395  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hey new miner here, looking for some feedback...thanks in advance on: March 08, 2011, 09:20:32 PM
If you are doing it for the "good of the bitcoin network" it really is because you want to benefit out of it. f you wouldn't you wouldn't be mining.
sure, the benefit is, that i'm able to send money whenever i want, in whatever amounts i want, to whoever i want,
without anyone being able to prevent me from doing so.

that benefit is called FREEDOM and i'm glad to help protect that freedom by donating some computing ressources.

i actually don't care WHY others do it, as long as they do it,
be it for profit, the good, or just for fun.

Might as well throw this out there too... right now I have 40 connection in bitcoin? If that a good number, bad number?
40 is a usual number of connections, my connections vary from 20-90.
396  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTCMine - new shared mining pool on: March 08, 2011, 09:06:35 PM
no need to estimate rewards, or to wait for confirmation when running PayPerShare, yet it's there,
for how long? til a block gets solved, then it goes to MyMoney balance for how long? til the next block is found?

very confusing it is,
i've tested ALL pools (well, at least all that have been public) and this is by far the most complicated stats-/payout-scheme i'v ever seen.
397  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hey new miner here, looking for some feedback...thanks in advance on: March 08, 2011, 08:51:03 PM
the whole point of mining FOR YOU might be to make profit, i guess that's true,
but that's not the whole point of mining.

the point of "mining", or lets better say generating, is to create blocks that store transactions.
without blocks, we couldn't move a single coin from, or to anywhere.

what if difficulty rises another 2, 5 or 10fold without the price moving an inch?
it will then no longer be profitable to some of us, yet someone has todo it, or the whole economy will die.
i don't need to try to convince myself otherwise, i already KNOW that i will still be generating, even if it COSTS me, if only to protect the value of those coins i already have.

how many watts you contribute totally depends on you and what you do it for, or what you are willing to donate to the network,
doesn't need to be hundreds, as mentioned any single hash/s more makes the network stronger, only a tiny bit, but it helps anyway.

you might do it for profit only, someone else might do it for the good of the bitcoin-network,
just like BOINC-people have fun to use BOINC, or SETI-people have fun looking for E.T., they all PAY for doing it.

398  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTCMine - new shared mining pool on: March 08, 2011, 07:43:40 PM
and what's that "Debit/Credit" about on the money-page?
can i owe you money at some point?

it says "MY MONEY (last 25 transactions)",
what transactions? there haven't been any.

the complete bounty-, treasure-, money-stats totally confuse me.
399  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hey new miner here, looking for some feedback...thanks in advance on: March 08, 2011, 07:11:34 PM
Spending more money to mine than it would cost to just buy the bitcoins is hardly a good way to protect your money.
not only your money, everyones money, protect the whole economy.
any hash/s more strengthens the network, doesn't matter if the miner is making profit or loss.
