381  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: When next difficulty change on: August 12, 2012, 06:06:45 AM
(#of blocks until next difficulty)/(#of blocks solved per hour x 24hours)= Approx. number of days until next difficulty change...if the network doesn't change at all.
382  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: is p2pool prepared for the onslaught of hashpower BFL will eventually bring? on: August 12, 2012, 12:11:00 AM
I haven't checked to see if the new BFL ASIC hardware will be p2pool compatible.  I thought I saw that somewhere it is.

If it is, is p2pool prepared to handle that type of horsepower?  If things turn out well, I personally expect to get 80g/h of power, and I'm certain I'm on the low end, just like I am now with 5 g/h of power.  As I posted in the ozcoin thread, those pools that can't handle the massive increase in hash power are going to die fast.

M
As far as server load goes, there's no concern; p2pool has no central server. The only problem will be the rapidly increasing difficulty (which is already getting painful at 800-900). I've only found 4 shares over the past 24 hours with my 580 MH/s.

Didn't we have scaling issues before?

M

I was going to say, it seems like we are again. Browsing the p2pool.info logs, this is the worst string of long blocks in basically a month, and it happened right as the pool started getting more hashes. We were getting over 300ghash more and more often and now we're over 425 with ease.
383  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Does this Rig look Good? on: August 09, 2012, 06:05:11 PM
I like all the things everyone has said, but I wouldn't go with a smaller PSU even if you're not planning on expanding. It may cost a bit more, but I tried to run my rig on PSU that was too small (rig used about 90% of the PUS total wattage) and after a few days of mining away in a hot room caused the PSU to fail. Now I try to run my system wattage at 60-70% of the PSU capacity to keep the load in the most efficient part of the curve (most PSU's have a bell curve for their efficiency), and the psu's stay cooler. Then if you ever want to overclock the cards, or build a BAD ASS gaming rig, you'll have plenty of overhead. Smiley
384  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: August 09, 2012, 11:57:11 AM
I guess I just don't get it. I come with 4 years of experience on a different forum (overclockers.com) where the people who have the knowledge of something will gladly share what they know when asked. If they see a thread that is a repost, or a comment that has been answered elsewhere, they just point you in the right direction and don't repeatedly ridicule the people who asked.

I just won't post in this thread anymore since I just get shit when I do. Have a good rest of your day, fellas.
No, the problem is that what you are saying is:
"I don't want to have to read the documentation that people here have gone to the trouble of writing, just tell me the answer"

You do realise there is a reason why the acronym RTFM exists right?

You are at the top of the list of reasons.

What I said, is that I wanted help. You interpreted my asking for help as a sign of me being lazy. It's a matter of perception, and nothing more. And I didn't know what the acronym meant before Raven said to me because, like I said, I don't typically deal with people who can't copy and paste a fucking link.
385  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: IS MINING REALLY WORTH IT on: August 08, 2012, 07:17:26 PM
Rofl.

But to seriously answer the OP's question: Would there be entire forums dedicated to people who mine bitcoins if it wasn't profitable? >___>

I don't think it was necessary to be an asshole about it. I wasn't continually posting about it or begging anyone for help. Sometimes it's easier to ask the people who know what they're doing before I go looking for the information myself. Next time, just don't acknowledge my posts if you're going to be a douche.
um... he wasn't being an asshole about it, he was perfectly neutral...

I'll be an asshole about it, tho.

<asshole>
None of us are getting paid to help you, but doing this for free, and a large number of us get fed up dealing with people who are too lazy and can't be bothered to put in even the most basic amount of effort to finding the information yourself, like you did.

People put together documentation, guides, wikis, even videos, in order to help out new people with information that they need, to do various things, and your unwillingness to put in even the most basic amount of effort, to read/view those things designed to answer your questions, choosing instead to ask again the same questions that have already been asked previously, even in this same thread, does not constitute an emergency on our part, or make your problem any more important or deserving of respect, that entitles you to any more of a personal effort on other people, than to point you to the guides that already exist, that answers your question.

Put in the effort to look for the information yourself, FIRST. Don't just wimp out and take the 'easy' route just cuz you're lazy. The documentation that comes with the program is the LEAST amount of effort you are obligated to put in. Scanning the thread you're going to post in, to see if it had been answered already, is also the least amount you are obligated to do.

Bring something to the table, show us you made some kind of minimal effort to resolve the issue first.

You want personal handholding, and someone to coddle your fragile feelings, go call a therapist.

Get over yourself...

I'm aware no one is getting paid. Did I hold a gun to your head and make you help me? Those who didn't want to help me unless they got paid, and those who just skimmed over what I wrote didn't help me. The people who don't care and just want to help someone who asked, posted. I got the information I needed and I don't think the thread needs to be cluttered with more shots at me. I guess you need to be payed for every favor you do, but I don't need a reward to help someone when they ask and simply write down the information that I already know. I know people put together wikis, just point me in the direction and you don't have to do a thing. If that's too much work, don't do anything. The two of you who decided to reply to me with bullshit probably used more energy than if you just posted a link for me. And I love how you call me lazy. Because you obviously know me so me. If you can't muster the energy to help someone, then you must be the lazy one.
388  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: August 08, 2012, 02:06:46 AM
I keep forgetting to set up the merged mining.  Sad I was going to last time I was on P2pool, but decided to just switch pools for a bit, now I need to get that set up.

Anyone have a quick and easy guide to setting up the merged mining? Cheesy

I can't speak for linux, I'm a windows guy.

For windows, find the client and download it.

Run it as is so that it creates the configuration files and wallet and starts downloading blocks.

Then create your bitcoin.conf file in the appropriate data directory (C:\Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Namecoin) with the appropriate settings.

At some point restart namecoind so that it picks up the new settings.

Change your firewall to forward the appropriate port to namecoin.

Wait a long time for it to download the chain.

Then restart p2pool with --merged pointed to your namecoin daemon with the appropriate credentials.

I find the namecoin gui to be most useful to keeping track of transactions.  With my 5 g/h, I've got two blocks in the last 2 weeks!

M

Thank you very much. I'll get it set up tonight if I have the time. Smiley I appreciate it.

Ooooh! I must have found the latest block. Cheesy I got my extra .25 + fees and such.  Cool
392  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Do you think difficulty will hit 2.5 Million in september? on: August 06, 2012, 05:49:06 PM
I've never been a betting kind of guy. I don't need to risk money to know that I certainly believe in something.
393  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: feast or famine on: August 06, 2012, 01:21:13 AM
Is it coincidence that the highest pool hash rate in a long time coincides with the longest block in a month?  Going on 48 hours here...

M

I feel like my shares have bad mojo. Sad
394  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: August 03, 2012, 06:22:52 AM
When it says "GOT BLOCK FROM PEER," then a different node solved the block. When you solve, I believe it says "GOT BLOCK. PASSING TO BITCOIND."

Glad this is all getting worked out!!!

I wonder if maybe the hashrates are just being reported wrong?

It probably was around a 5% increase, but we only saw a change from ~1740 to ~ 1850 ish. Still low compared to where he was mining before.

I've never used BAMT, but from what he says, BAMT must be very optimized for mining, much more so than windows.

Last night we got him back on sdk 2.5 after an uninstall and wipe of the 2.7 sdk. Didn't help mhash as much as I'd expected. :/

Hey 420, do you have AIM or a similar chat method? I can clear some of those questions up right quick via a chatting program like AIM (I'm actually on right now).
