"ignore thread" feature. Preferably with a checkbox in the thread list. So that when you move on to the next page, all the checked threads are ignored.

+1

Also:

"Ignore Sig" Button, like the Ignore Button in the Sig of Users, to Ignore only specific Sigs (Those Advertising Sigs are annoying). I know this can be done with addblock. But using addblock on this forum causes other problems.
382  Other / Meta / Re: How To "Unsubscribe" From Threads? on: January 19, 2014, 09:16:32 PM

Brilliant. Thanks so much!

I also went to my profile and enabled "Automatically watch topics after replying to them. (You can add all of your posted-in topics to your watchlist.)" which makes it much easier.

I wish this was enabled by default Smiley.

It is, but only for new accounts. As yours is from 2011 it wasn't.

385  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Der Aktuelle Kursverlauf on: January 19, 2014, 04:00:07 PM

Anmerkung: Die klassischen Chartanalaysen machen nichts anderes.

386  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Finders keepers? I found an address with 50 BTC via brain wallet! on: January 19, 2014, 02:11:47 PM
Question is how can you verify the one who contacts you with the correct passphrase is the REAL owner?
He could be just another brainwallet cracker...

He has most likely transferred the coins from his ´normal Wallet to the brain wallet. So have him sign a message with the address the coins have been moved from to the brain wallet and the brain wallet itself.
387  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014 could be a slow year for bitcoin on: January 19, 2014, 01:14:37 PM
Stagnation for a while would be a good thing.

1. It would increase the confidence of people that Bitcoin is not in a bubble and can hold the current price levels.
2. It would counter the argument that Bitcoin is to volatile to work.
3. Bitcoin Price has got far ahead of the infrastructure around it. It would give it time to catch up.
4. Currently the focus of most people in Bitcoin is only about the price and Bitcoin as an investment. Stability would slowly shift the focus to usage of Bitcoin.

All in all I would greatly welcome a longer stable period.

Just do the only right thing.

Go to Profile --> Ignore Boards Preferences.

Mark:

 Mining (Altcoins)
 Marketplace (Altcoins)

Click "Change Profile" and be done with it.
391  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoins : Is it worth investing at this late stage? on: January 18, 2014, 05:57:35 PM
I have been having a chat with my Dad about whether it is worth investing in five or ten bitcoins in the hope that their value may go even higher in the next 2 years. Can you guys give a quick opinion about where you see the value of Bitcoins in 2 years from now. Have they reached their peak or is there still a long way up from here? Your opinions would be appreciated.

Nobody can know that for sure. It depends if Bitcoin start out to be a success. If they are , then this is just the beginning. But this also requires for people to actually use BTC.

Either way. This is not a late stage as Bitcoin just got out of the shadows and into Mainstream.
392  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When bitcoins are no longer rewarded, why would people mine? on: January 18, 2014, 05:51:35 PM
thanks for the reply.

out of whose pocket will these payments be made?

Those who make Transactions of course.
393  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will there ultimately be just one cryptocurrency? on: January 18, 2014, 03:35:31 PM
I'm not (yet) too familiar with the mechanics of how cryptocurrencies work, but I realise that it's essentially a peer-to-peer setup.  As long as you have a copy of the blockchain you can both make and process transactions.

But presumably when I fire up my software, it needs to know how to connect to other peers on the network.  My understanding is that this is done using the nodes in the .conf file - is that right?  Presumably when my software connects to a node it flags me as online and available as a peer, and tells me of other available peers.

But who runs those nodes, and what would happen if they disappeared?  Presumably people would be unable to connect to the network so the currency would effectively be paralysed.

In other words if the nodes are shut down, doesn't the currency effectively die?

When you start the software. You are a node. I'm not familia on exactly how your node finds other nodes. But the ones in the conf file are only known nodes that your one has found before.

How I love the guys that create a new account, only to have a "reason" to bump their alt in the noob section.  Roll Eyes
395  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will there ultimately be just one cryptocurrency? on: January 18, 2014, 12:51:18 PM
Well, crytocurrencies are almost impossible to kill. As long as there is still a single copie of the code and the blockchain, they life on.

So I don't think any one of them will truly die.

But I think that in the long term, interst in most of them will fade and there will be less and less of them that truly matter, simply due to the fact that they provide no or very limited usability, while others are usable at more and more places. And I think this will eventually affect all of them but one until basically only one remains that is truly used. The only real hot canidate for this is IMO currently Bitcoin.

Plus most of the current new currencies don't stand a chance as they are build for people that think "they have missed the Boat", the problem with that is, once they have a reasonable success, the target group of them, that helps them grow will again be in the "missed the Boat" Situation and therefore rather make a new coin again, than to jump on the established coin, while the people that go for a established coin rather go for the most established one. They are limited in their potential right from the start.
396  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using Bitcoin in Burger King... on: January 18, 2014, 11:47:25 AM
There are many altcoins who are faster.

Not really true.

Confirmations are a measurement of security. Simple speaking, when you have 1 confirmation in Bitcoin it means the mining power of 10 minutes says your transaction is confirmed*. If you have a coin with 1 minute Blocktime 1 confirmations means the mining power of 1 minute says your transaction is confirmed

That means if you wait for 6 confirmations in a Bitcoin transaction, you should actually wait for 60 confirmations in the other coin and that only if the same amount of Hash Power would back it.

The only (very small advantage) is the 1. confirmation where it would already have the security of 1/10 of a Bitcoin confirmation.

398  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin's confirmation time problem in retail stores? on: January 18, 2014, 09:23:23 AM
Unconfirmed transactions are still pretty save. It's way harder to double spend an unconfirmed transaction, than to charge back a credit card transaction. A difference are services where you can immediately withdraw your BTC back (like an exchange or gambling) even if it only works 1/100th of the time you could make money this way. That's why you have to wait for confirmations there. But I have yet to see a store where I have to wait for confirmations.

Waiting for confirmations only is necessary for high value good. You can easily say, everywhere were you also couldn't pay with a credit card.

Also reducing the time between blocks would not make sense here either. As confirmations are a measurement of security. If you have 1 confirmation with  a bitcoin transaction it means that the networks hashing power of 10 minutes agrees that this transaction is confirmed.

If a service waits for 6 confirmations (like many exchanges) with Bitcoin, they actually should wait for 24 confirmations with a coin that has a block time of 2.5 Minutes (like Litecoin) for the same amount of security.

Wenig ernsthafte Diskussionen,wenig Substantielles. Leider
