381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Getting ahead of arriving miner parts... (with 25LTC bounty) on: April 07, 2013, 03:46:26 AM
I think this is just a sub-breaker box. I wouldn't know how to kill the power coming it to it to make the swap. I have a coworker that was an electrician for years. I may have him come look at it.

I just called a couple of places (one is a 45 second walk from my apartment) that would rent me an office for $900/mo. One has utilities included, but I made sure to mention how much electricity I'd use. He'd be willing to drop off the average tenant usage from the rent and just let me pay the electric bill. It would be a pretty sweet deal for 6 miners to start and an even better deal when I get all 20 miners in there. Going after this next week (I have training and will be out of town) to check them both out. One of the buildings for sure has some 240V lines in them with big nasty breakers so I could put a -LOT- more rigs in there. We'll see who ends up winning.

I've put a list together of supplies I need to go and buy this evening. Then I think I'm going to work on assembling the rack or whatever I decide to buy and start taking off the plastic covers from the GPUs and redoing the thermal paste on the heat-sinks.

Please make sure you consider cooling of the room(s) you plan on having epic rigs in. you will be producing a LOT of heat, and espescially with summer coming up you will need to factor in how much AC capability is around or if you happen to be in a very cool environment, if you have the ability to have some very powerful window fans to keep the place ventilated.

382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / ALT coins and difficulty.... on: April 07, 2013, 03:39:20 AM
So, I was thinking and came up with an idea.. I wonder if it is even remotely possible for a current or new alt-coin to implement.

FRC and TRC have both now been plagued by coin hoppers.. people shooting the difficulty to a very unprofitable level and then dumping for the next best thing.. leaving difficulty way high and the legitimate users of the coin in a rough spot.

Is it possible to have some kind of 'difficulty decay' system outside of the typical readjusts?

For example: TRC is now 55% as profitable as BTC to mine.. if there was a way for the network to see "oh gee, for the past 5 hours we have been at a 5x block time cycle, lets go ahead and start dumping down the difficulty to alleviate this issue"

Or maybe if other coins just adopted the PPC/NVC method of constant gradual adjustment., you wouldnt get this absurd jumps that screw everything up.

What are your thoughts?
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terracoin Dead or Dying ? on: April 07, 2013, 03:36:12 AM
We are not sure what happened with Terracoin but all we can say it was not handled great.
No warning to services using it, just a webpage update, not even a forum thread for discussing the issue and helping others resolve it.

So our current status as of updating is: no transactions are confirming - despite using the latest git tree.

Who writes terracoin ?, is there a thread for this discussion already ?

The price was high enough that it was stupid profitable for a very short time.. some ASIC people point their guns at it and blow up the difficulty to 165k.. now it is only 55% as profitable as BTC to mine.

384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Only Getting ~250 KH/s with an HD 7850 mining LTC (cgminer) on: April 07, 2013, 03:34:20 AM
Just worked through this exact same issue, but with reaper.
What got me mining at ~350 KH/s was changing the gpu_thread_concurrency to 15000
More or less copied settings for the 7870, and it worked.
There is no where I could find that had the 7860 settings filled in in a guide.
You can probably get more KH/s by working with the concurrency.

Solution was found in tacotime's post at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=117221.msg1256502#msg1256502

I tried to set the gpu_thread_concurrency to 15000, but I get the following error message:

cgminer versions 2.11.3 and up can be used to mine with high thread concurrencies now.  Follow these instructions:
WINDOWS: Open console and type
Code:
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
Now, close the console (it will not work if you open cgminer in the same window).  Open cgminer using a .bat or a new console, high thread concurrencies will now work.

LINUX: Open terminal and type
Code:
export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
Now high thread concurrencies should work in cgminer.
385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / oh why oh why did we sell...... on: April 06, 2013, 01:42:18 PM
man it sure is kinda rough looking at just how high TRC/PPC/LTC exchange rates have gotten....

having mined 15k TRC like it was nothing a few months ago... at current FX rates thats $50k worth

oh well, you live and you learn
386  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best places to buy graphics cards with BTC? on: April 06, 2013, 01:28:14 PM
I'm currently building a new computer and I'm purchasing all the hardware with bitcoins.

I know bitcoinstore.com sells graphics cards but all the decent ones seem to be out of stock.

I'm wondering if there are any other safe websites where I can purchase a card using BTC?

EDIT: just want to add that I'm looking for Radeon cards, although that should be obvious.

you could always use fastcash4bitcoins to cash out to paypal and then buy on newegg with paypal.....

if you cant find a better source of course..
387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What have you purchased with bitcoin? on: April 06, 2013, 01:27:20 PM
not DIRECTLY with bitcoin... (sold for paypal and then paid with paypal)..

new intercooler for the car
new summer tires for the car
2x 7950's and 1x 7970

thats just in the last 10 days :-D
388  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I've shunned Bytecoin on: April 06, 2013, 01:24:10 PM
Nobody, really?  Grin

Network hashrate: 1031.62 GH/s

in the days of ASICS that is not saying much.

if it was that much in GPU/FPGA.. then its a legit number.
389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitparking PPCoin Pool [closed] on: April 06, 2013, 01:23:28 PM
I really hope you'll consider a PPLNS pool. I'd launch one myself if I had a bit more clue on how it all works. I've been out of programming and web/database development for ~13 years, changed careers. Been fun starting to mine though. But my only PPC pool I'm using now is Coinotron and they keep going up and down, wasting lots of gpu cycles. Gotta get a 2nd pool. Smiley

protip: open a second instance of cgminer for BTC.. run BTC at intensity 3 and PPC at intensity 11... when PPC is up you'll only get a few mhash devoted to BTC.. but when ppc is down you'lll get 85% hash rate on BTC
390  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terracoin on: April 06, 2013, 12:46:48 AM

Hi I sent 10 TRC through to the address ...and it just sits there at 0

+10.00000000 TRC, 0 confirmations, 03:43 06.04.13

I heard the hashrate for that coin slowed WAY the frick down after it got pumped up to 65k difficulty.. maybe its just there aren't many blocks being solved right now.
391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PPcoin on: April 06, 2013, 12:45:55 AM
Begin ye olde pumpe

lol it was up to 0.05 BTC EACH for like 5 minutes....
392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Where are the TRC/PPC pools at? on: April 06, 2013, 12:44:47 AM
Is there any other decent TRC or PPC pool besides coinotron?

We need more redundancy.. coinotron has been pretty iffy lately with its uptime, and now that bitparking shut down its amazing PPC pool..we need more options Smiley

393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Richest alt-coin addresses on: April 05, 2013, 09:13:21 PM
Would love to see the same data for PPcoins and TerraCoins

I know there are at least two individuals with > 100k Terracoins. That's a lot of coins since there are only 2 million Terracoins out there and 100k is 5%.

SOMEONE was buying the coins when the price was very low and the coins were worth like .00005 per BTC.

also, for awhile even with 2-3 mhash i could get 1000+ a day.. that was a couple of months ago as well, wouldn't take much for the small handfull of people mining and buying up coins to accumulate that much. for most of its history TRC was a VERY sparsely used coin.
394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin on 5850 Kh/s incorrect on: April 05, 2013, 09:11:20 PM
The pools all have a ramp up time for measuring your speed. I've mined on most of those and it takes time for your pool stats (which are typically a 24 hour average) to catch up. If you're quickly hopping from pool to pool without giving it the necessary time, this could be the culprit.

at least the pools like litecoinpool, notroll.in, and coinotron use an approx 10min avg.

OP, give it at LEAST 10-15 minutes and then check the hash rate in the pool.

THEN, understand it is an AVERAGE, if you have 1200khash showing on cgminer, you can see anywhere from 950-1500 at the pool, depending on miner luck in finding shares.
395  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitparking PPCoin Exchange [closing] on: April 05, 2013, 09:09:22 PM
I am a bit sad to see you shutdown your projects in the alt-coin world.

Your PPC exchange and pool really helped PPC in its infancy.

I can see where you are coming from. I have learned that projects of this type are much more work then most realize.

I wish you the best of luck and look forward to your future endeavors.

Not only that.. if what used to be a couple hundred bucks of day worth of coins now becomes THOUSANDS... he doesnt want to take that risk and be "the next guy who had some sucky exchange that got hacked and lost people money"

he's getting out before bad things happen, and while it is sad espescially to see the pool close, it is understandable.
396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [TRC] No block for 4hours? Everyone out of sync? on: April 05, 2013, 09:07:23 PM
I guess it could be an attack, OR
simply by this diff ("difficulty" : 66974.93661016,) just no block is found in the last 4 hours and miners abandoned

ya.. PPC and TRC are quite vulnerable to the ASIC's just coming in for a short period and then hitting the road in a a hurry.

IMO that is a HUGE benefit of LTC/NVC in that legit CPU/GPU's have to be used to snag them coins Smiley
397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Consolidated Litecoin Mining Guide for 5xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx GPUs on: April 05, 2013, 09:06:15 PM
So has anyone here ever proved that LTC mining uses more electricity?

I find that hard to believe.. I dont know about anyone else.. but here is how things tend to be with my 7950's (gigabyte triple fan)

on a given day.. mining BTC at 600mhash/s (1150mhz) the card will say run at oh.. 75C...

Switch to LTC at 630 khash/s (1050/1400) and the card now runs at 67C (exact same machine, fan speed, environmental temps etc)

is there something that I am missing that would cause power to increase for some other reason?

Also.. using the EXACT same settings (copy pasted, so i know they are identical)... 2 of my cards (same machine) get 570 and the other 3 get 630.. *unamused*.. this is in CGminer by the way.

398  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Anyone having a problem with multibit? on: April 05, 2013, 02:06:16 AM
multibit tried to screw me over one time... it randomally sweeped 7btc from one of my blockchain addresses i imported into the local address it created. i didnt realize this until after i deleted the wallet file.

Thankfully Iwas able to recover the file and get my coins back.. this was only a month ago to.. so the thought of losing $350 was a scary one.
399  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Just lost all of my Bitcoins on Satoshi on: April 05, 2013, 01:51:15 AM
Just lost all of my Bitcoins on Satoshi:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SpihGKmYgY

That's the way she goes.

How much did you lose
About .256 Bitcoins. Hopefully I can recover from this.

I feel ya, I lost 1 bitcoin earlier on. I can't believe how some people can recover from losing 500 bitcoins (someone recently lost about that much I saw on the sdice statistics thread)

just go to a casino in vegas sometime and watch dozens of people piss away THOUSANDS of dollars in a night..

gambling is gambling, this is just a different currency and IMO a FAR more boring way to do it.

if you are going to gamble, might as well do it in a casino.
400  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: AMD 7790(GCN 1.1) on: April 04, 2013, 11:04:30 PM
Hope you don't mind a newbie question here!  Wink
But does it still make sense to buy a Radeon 7850 for mining?
How long does it currently take for you guys to mine 1BTC with such a 7850?

Since I'm totally new to mining I run a test with my gforce at about 80Mhs and didn't make even 1 satoshi in days. So when I multiply times 3.5, which is about the performance of a 7850 (280Mhs), whats the gain? It still would take months to make 1BTC. Am I wrong?

http://dustcoin.com/mining

if you are using a PPS pool, you can put in your hash rate in that site and it'll tell you CURRENT DIFFICULTY AND EXCHANGE RATE income per hour/day/week/month

300mhash card should give you about $2.50 a day right now mining BTC.
