381  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: There's always a price to pay. on: November 24, 2023, 11:56:57 PM
There are times that you will have to cut off from so many friends just to be focused enough to facing your goals, there will come a time when you might even starve yourself just to get data to do your research on YouTube and other platforms just to become good at the thing you are doing.

This isn't really true for Bitcoin, it doesn't require that much effort. All you truly need to know is how to safely use it, and then if you're an investor you just wait for years till you are satisfied with your profit. Learning about Bitcoin in-depth is useful, but it won't affect your profits. And short-term trading is just gambling, no amount of research will help you be consistently profitable, so it's best to just focus on long-term investing.
382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OFAC-Sanctioned Transactions Being Censored on: November 24, 2023, 11:50:28 PM
Until the miners start hard forking the chain to censor transactions, their refusal to include certain transactions only delays them for time on average proportional to their share of network hashpower. And when or if there will be such attempt, I'm sure the whole community will choose the censorship-free chain, just like it previously rejected SegWit2x fork attempt.
383  Economy / Economics / Re: There is possibility of great reset and bail out by crypto holders on: November 23, 2023, 11:59:12 PM
For USD funds, everything goes usdc,usdt,busd...paxos usd and all the others.
Crypto owners might save the world in return they get the assets like real estate.

All those fiat stablecoins do not have any different macroeconomic properties from other forms of fiat. They are not stable in their real value, they are stable in their exchange rate with their fiat pair, or at least supposed to be. They can't be a backbone of any sort of financial revoultion.

As for the great reset, it's just a hype narrative for promoting cryptocurrencies. The governments will never allow this to happen and they have all the power they need to stop it. And they won't hesitate to use that power if they will start seeing crypto as a threat.
384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC technology and the need for referral codes/links. on: November 23, 2023, 11:50:36 PM
Is BTC technology a failing/failed technology because it has no referrals, but rely on an exchanges' program which aims for users to earn some dollars by referral codes?

Bitcoin is not relying on exchanges or referrals in any way to function. Bitcoin community is not growing because of some sort of multi-level marketing where old investors lure new investors and new investors lure even more investors.

And Bitcoin was created to be a currency, not to generate profit for its owners or to gather millions of users just for the sake of it. As long as even a few people use it as a currency, it has not "failed".
385  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much do you Trust Bitcoin ? on: November 22, 2023, 11:54:35 PM
I don't care about the impact of alt stuff like NFT or DeFi, because in all my years spent in this ecosystem I never saw evidence of altcoins impacting Bitcoin, but I am worried about Bitcoin itself - specifically how much of its value is just random speculation and how much is solid fundamentals. It could be that Bitcoin is vastly overpriced and will crash hard when the speculators will quit it for a new or different type of asset (not altcoins or something like that).
386  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: unnecessarily quoting by members of the forum. on: November 22, 2023, 11:51:23 PM
However, some members keep making the same mistake repeatedly and have chosen not to learn. For those using the Telegram bot, this can be annoying when you're mentioned unnecessarily, and keep getting notifications even if you're not involved in the current discussion.

The telegram bot that I use only notifies me of direct quotes and mentions, and the bot that I created used to do the same. So it's not really a major problem, the biggest annoyance is that it makes the threads less readable, and in general I just skip reading the reply of a pyramid quote, because it  most likely has zero value because good posters don't make such mistakes.
387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs Monero - Privacy as the world becomes more dystopian on: November 21, 2023, 11:42:01 PM
Also scaling is another issue, Bitcoin fees are 1000x Monero fees.

Because Bitcoin is used 1000x more often than Monero. If Monero would reach the limits of its capacity, it would have high fees too. And since Monero is not using any different blockchain architecture that would make it more efficient than Bitcoin with block space, you can't say that it's more scalable just because the devs chose to have higher block size cap. Raising the size cap is trivial, dealing with the consequences is not.
388  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Largest crypto exchange CEO arrested! Anyone getting deja vu? on: November 21, 2023, 11:35:29 PM
The bad news is that Binance will have to pay over $4B and for that they will likely have to liquidate some BTC which would negative affect the price in short term. Also the largest crypto exchange admitting to violating the law is not good for the market, but at least Binance will only have to pay the fine and they are not getting shut down. Unless they don't have that kind of money and will file for bankruptcy.
389  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is your solution to pay less Fee ? on: November 20, 2023, 11:53:57 PM
My solution is to just hodl Bitcoin as an investment and occasionally sell it on exchanges if needed, and for that I wait for periods of low fees and deposit some BTC to have a small amount on my exchange account ready for sale if I have to. I'm not buying anything with BTC that could justify even a $10 fee so I'm going to wait for mainstream Lightning Network before considering using Bitcoin for smaller payments.
390  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Enjoy being a newbie on: November 20, 2023, 11:37:12 PM
And when after investing hours creating those threads, the applauds they expected doesn't appear, they'll feel not being good enough. Enjoy the process.

Some people will never outgrow their newbie phase, they will either keep posting as newbies or will give up and leave this forum. Not everyone is capable of earning merits as it requires demonstrating Bitcoin knowledge and we all know from our schools that some people just fail no matter what.

Why are people even trying to grow their accounts, when they can focus on growing their knowledge instead? I know signature campaigns are nice, but there's MUCH more money to be made if you actually know this industry inside and out.

Signature campaigns are a reliable source of income and for people from poor countries that is good enough, while advanced opportunities require some investment, set of skills, risk and so on.
391  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Argentina Be The Next El Salvador To Accept Bitcoin As Legal Tender? on: November 20, 2023, 11:28:50 PM
He never said that he's planning to make it a legal tender, but there's a good chance that he will, giving his extreme political views. Or maybe he'll find another way to make it easier to use Bitcoin for the population, starting with lowering the regulations on Bitcoin and lowering or even removing taxes. I'm sure that he will do at least something for Bitcoin, and that's already good news even for those who aren't from Argentina, because it will boost the price, especially now that the market will soon turn bullish and all the positive news will get amplified.
392  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will SEC delay on Spot ETF approval do to Bitcoin's price?@ on: November 19, 2023, 11:58:58 PM
The price would immediately drop by $2-3k or even a bit more, and weeks after that there will be stagnation, but other than that there will not be much long-term effects. Halvening will still happen and will greatly impact the market, and once the price will start growing the crypto media will find some new hype narrative to explain the growth and boost the sentiment. That's how it always worked and will likely work again. During covid there was a huge crash, and then Bitcoin quickly recovered and returned to the normal course as if nothing happened.
393  Economy / Economics / Re: #HODLing is not a smooth journey on: November 19, 2023, 11:47:21 PM

#HODLing is not a smooth journey, do you agree? Grin

It really is like the upper picture if you don't care about the short-term movements and patiently wait for your price goal or the peak of the bull market or even just decided to never sell and wait for the times when you can buy anything with Bitcoin.

HODLing can be stressful if you're a beginner investor who checks the price every 15 minutes and read all the crypto news, but you're supposed to eventually grow up as an investor and stop worrying about that.
394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How high can the transaction fees become? on: November 19, 2023, 11:43:36 PM
Look at the fee spikes of the past and double or tripple that to get some idea of how high they can get in the coming years. If Bitcoin shoots up, the traders will have more value in their hands and they will be able to tolerate higher fees when they move coins in/out/between exchanges. But the good news is that spikes don't last for long, just a few weeks and then fees go down to a more manageable level.
395  Economy / Speculation / Re: Timely Halving Event and Bitcoin ETF a Positive Bombshell on: November 18, 2023, 11:55:48 PM

Lately, we have witnessed the movement of BTC from $24,000 to bout $36,000 which can be attributed to the Bitcoin ETF narrative.

I think the recent ETF hype only helped to jump-start the growth that was going to happen anyway because of the halvening and because Bitcoin was oversold during the bear market. Because it's totally unrealistic that a rumour of an ETF approval increased the value of Bitcoin by 50% - that's just some absurd volatility that only happens to immature assets and Bitcoin is supposed to be batter than that by now.
396  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Huge Amount of BTC on: November 18, 2023, 11:44:12 PM
If I had to sell 200 BTC, I would look for OTC trading in my country and make an escrowed deal in real life, with fiat money sent to my bank account, and I know for sure I'd have to explain to my bank where those money came from so those coins would have to be clean. My local CEX that I use actually has an OTC desk so that's what I would explore if I had to. But if that wouldn't be an option I would try some business forums and post my offer there. Another option is organizing an auction, but that would obviously come with extra costs.
397  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Senator introduce"keep your coin act" to protect right to use self-hosted wallet on: November 18, 2023, 11:16:18 PM
It's kind of crazy that they even have to introduce an act for someone to keep their own coins in non-custodial wallets. Like, isn't it any anyone's right to have self-custody of their funds whenever they want?

I think the goal here is to stop discrimination against coins that are held in self-custody, like if some service views them as suspicious and refuses to accept them. But it's unclear if this ever actually happened and if it did than how common it is. So it's probably just a preventive measure. But I doubt that such act will get passed, legislators have a lot more things to do than to bother regulating Bitcoin.
398  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What would you tell your younger self to learn this space efficiently? on: November 17, 2023, 11:50:12 PM
I would tell my younger self to learn only the basics of safely holding Bitcoin, to learn about Bitcoin market cycles so I could sell at the top and buy back at the bottom, and other than that don't dig deeper and instead focus on studying other fields that can be a source of income, like programming, for example. That's because aside from the initial earnings from buying Bitcoin earlier I didn't make much money from crypto activities.
399  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the minimum amount of bitcoin or satoshi should hold for poor? on: November 17, 2023, 11:45:27 PM
At this point no realistic amount of coins  would help a poor person to get out of poverty. Bitcoin will never again grow by 100 times or 1000 times like it did in the past. So no one can put $100 into Bitcoin and have their financial problems solved in 10 years.

In general, investing is never a realistic option for getting out of poverties. Opportunities like buying in its early days happen once in a lifetime. Poor people need to focus first on earning more and invest into safer assets with larger sums, rather than hoping that a high-risk investment will succeed.
400  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Is bigger block capacity still a taboo? on: November 16, 2023, 10:32:38 PM
It's not a taboo, it has never been a taboo, you could always post topics about it on this forum, it's just that most users are against it, because they understand the danger of having high requirements for running a full node, which would make the network much smaller as only large entities would be able to afford to run a full node, so nodes would be more like datacenters rather than the regular users.
