3881  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ordered Ledger Backup Pack - Nano X + Nano S on: November 12, 2019, 05:30:16 PM
Most people lost their money because their devices were shipped from resellers who included a pregenerated seed. You should be safe since you ordered the pack from their official account.

An easy way to check for that attack vector is to allow the wallet to generate a seed, write it down, reset the device, and go through the initialization steps again.  If the wallet generates the same seed twice it's a forgery, or has been tampered with to produce a specific seed to which a hacker has access.  A genuine wallet will never generate the same seed twice.

3882  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: WebUSB/Trezor on: November 12, 2019, 05:19:44 PM
Do you have the Trezor Bridge installed?  That might solve your issue:

https://wiki.trezor.io/Trezor_Bridge

Trezor supports Chrome (via WebUSB or Trezor Bridge) and Firefox (via Trezor Bridge only). Safari, Opera and Edge are currently not supported.
3883  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Master Public Key [HD Wallet] on: November 12, 2019, 05:06:18 PM
Goes straight to the bitpay wallet. I was under the impression we when set up the bitpay account it was as a merchant (2017) doesn't seem if that was the case tbh i can't remember now

If you haven't contacted bitpay's support team, it might be a good idea.  If they can help you they will.  If not, then you're right back here.

Out of interest where would you guys recommend backing up these "recovery keys"

Not to be a stickler, but there are "private keys," and a "seed phrase."  I don't mean to be pedantic, but if you take a moment to learn the proper terms it may be easier for us to help you.  One of the issues you're facing is that (I suspect) you don't know the difference between your bitpay account, and your bitpay wallet.  Which is why I recommend you contact bitpay's support team.  They will at least be able to tell you if the funds made their way to your account.

I think you're talking about the seed phrase, which can be used to recover your wallet.  I recommend you store it in a fire resistant document safe.
3884  Economy / Reputation / Re: Request Support (or Opposition) for Flags here! on: November 12, 2019, 04:40:01 PM
But as it stands now, we shouldn't invalidate flags if the reference is removed. A scammer might trick moderators into deleting a thread and apparently moderators can't or won't check if it's used for a flag.

I don't like the idea of a flag that doesn't have a reference thread, maybe theymos can implement a little indicator near the "delete" button that informs moderators if the thread has been used as reference for a flag.  That would at least warn a moderator if the person reporting the thread is the subject of the flag, there may be an effort to manipulate the system.

I don't think anyone is missing those reference threads started by korner, but why did they all get deleted?  Was it due to being banned?  I thought that only happened if the account was nuked, but he still has many posts.
3885  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Master Public Key [HD Wallet] on: November 12, 2019, 03:53:54 PM
The laptop we used was accidentally damaged so we can no longer login to access the wallet on that particular desktop.

How badly damaged, and in what way?  If the hard drive is still intact you may be able to recover your missing information.

But, I'm still a bit confused, because the BitPay merchant account is different from the BitPay wallet.  When you receive payments from your customers does the bitcoin go straight to your BitPay merchant account?  If so, all you need to do is regain access to your account.  Contact BitPay tech support, and they should be able to help you regain access to your account.
3886  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Missing receiving address in my bitcoin wallet on: November 11, 2019, 11:07:55 PM
The super confusing part in all this is that the OP said he already tried copy/pasting multiple bitcoin addresses since this incident and they all copy and paste just fine... I've never seen a clipboard hijacker that only works "once" and then stops working??!? Huh
The clipboard virus might have been flagged and deleted by his Malwarebytes AV in the meantime that is why he was able to copy/paste the correct address when instructed to try it out.

If you follow the OP's timeline this seems like the most plausible scenario.  It's hard to point to any one thing that caused this, the proper trouble shooting steps were taken out of sequence, in my opinion.  It's unfortunate because it would have been nice to help the OP figure out exactly what caused his issue so he can avoid it in the future.  As it is, this might happen to him again if he continues downloading and installing software the way he's been.
3887  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum/HWW Verification on: November 11, 2019, 10:55:45 PM
is verification only done during signing and prior to this the green ledger light on Electrum is an indicator only (trusting that the device holds the corresponding keys because the device says so)?

I think that's an accurate assumption.  I'm no programmer, but it's my understanding that Electrum can only assemble the transactions, then they are signed internally by the Ledger (any hardware wallet) then the signed Tx is broadcast by Electrum.  Electrum has no access the private keys, not even when the hardware wallet is connected.
3888  Other / Meta / Re: Respond to thread without bumping. on: November 11, 2019, 06:45:49 PM
If a tree fell in the middle of the forest and there was no one around to hear it, did it make a sound?

If a post was made in a thread that was buried on page 42 of a discussion board, and the thread wasn't bumped, would the post ever be read?

If you want to make a post in a thread that's buried on page 42 of a discussion board but don't feel the need for the thread to be bumped, does the post really need to be made?
3889  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion to reduce signature campaign spam posts on: November 11, 2019, 06:31:05 PM
Wouldn't it therefore be a useful measure to prohibit signature campaigns to require a minimum number of posts per week or month? Or at least a minimum number of 1 to 3 posts per week or not more than 10 a month?

I think you would have a hard time convincing the Anarcho-Capitalist that own's this place to put any such restrictions on campaigns.  However, that's not so say that he won't step in if things get out of control.  The Yobit ban earlier this is year was a prime example.  And, the way the Yobit campaign has been running since it's return it's a prime example of how the community will step up and address spam.

Like others have said, report spammers to the mods if appropriate, or the campaign manager if he's a subtle spammer.

I don't understand how anybody makes money advertising here.

3890  Economy / Lending / Re: $75k - $100k BITCOIN LOAN on: November 10, 2019, 07:46:56 PM
Just the numbers not adding up irritate my OCD.

I had to reserve myself from replying to every stupid thing said in that post, but the "no risk" thingy won out.  I only have so much time to invest, and judging by the name it looks like a troll account just stirring the pot.
3891  Economy / Reputation / Re: Wrong Accusation: Timelord2067 gave me wrong accusation on: November 10, 2019, 07:40:33 PM
He tried to damage my reputation, So I can say in that way it comes under the 2nd category.

Many have tried to damage reputations of others around here, and many have failed.  Timelord2067's review is not trusted, so it really doesn't mean much.  It would be pretty hard to justify the claim that it cost you potential income, and impossible to prove that any agreement was implied.  That's not proper justification for a flag, and if you create a flag under that premise then you are abusing the system.

I've read your justification for using that address, and I believe you.  The best thing to do at this point is for both you and Timelord2067 to remove your feedback.  You left feedback for retaliatory purposes, which I think is wrong in the first place.  Perhaps by rationally discussing the situation with Timelord2067 in PM you can convince him to remove his feedback.
3892  Economy / Lending / Re: $75k - $100k BITCOIN LOAN on: November 10, 2019, 07:13:12 PM
There is no risk involved as I have already got the contract.

Likely story, Mr. Wee Wanker.

Since your business already has a contract, ask your client for an advance to get started.  Isn't that how the these things typically work?
3893  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Missing receiving address in my bitcoin wallet on: November 10, 2019, 04:40:50 PM
You said previously that all the addresses in your electrum wallet begin with 1 yet this address begins with 3. Did you not notice this difference when pasting the address into your email? It's a pretty big difference.

edit: also could this address be from some website or exchange you were using at the time?

I wonder if he actually meant this address: 1P24xfd96qvMzLN81qxNhgPn2pm8Efa5AG.

According to blockchain that address received a payment, and instantly broadcast this transaction:
0ddca07771e20587b00a1685702f1be13c2748832fa8c835040cdc2c3001ab33

According to blockchair the the same transaction was confirmed about an hour and half after the payment:
0ddca07771e20587b00a1685702f1be13c2748832fa8c835040cdc2c3001ab33

also could this address be from some website or exchange you were using at the time?

I was thinking the same thing, maybe the OP was trying to multi-task and succeeding about as well I do when I try.
3894  Other / Meta / Re: Criterion for selecting a moderator for the local section on: November 10, 2019, 02:41:02 PM
Therefore, moderators will only be added if its shown that they're required, and the best way of judging that is by looking at the state of a section, and how many reports are being made.

Seems like that could fall into a catch 22.  If few reports are made, and a moderator is deemed unnecessary, then more bad posts may go unreported.  People may feel it's not worth their time to report a post if they're under the impression that no one will look at it.

If a post is reported in a section without a specific moderator does it go int a pool that all moderators can see?
3895  Other / Meta / Re: "Report to moderator" wording on: November 10, 2019, 06:21:02 AM
I wondered about the logic of sharing the email address with mods for a report.  Maybe it was designed to discourage abusing the feature to annoy a mod or stalk another member?  I'm not using an email that discloses any personal information so it never bothered me, but I can see how it may discourage some one from making reports in specific board moderated by someone with whom they've had issues.

The terminology could use an update, I agree the use of the word "abusive" should be addressed.  Being a global forum it's likely someone would have to translate that phrase, and the meaning could easily be lost in that translation.  I'm not sure how I feel about links to rules and guidelines that are not official.

And the craziest thing for me is that there is no link to the rules in the Beginner & Help section, only a post by Lauda " newbies reads before posting" where the rules are mentioned somewhere in the wall of text as a small, invisible link.

Very good point, even if it is off-topic.

That's Luno.com's hot wallet.  Both members could be using webwallets from the same exchange.  Exchanges often divert customer deposits to more secure hot wallet. That's not a connection.  If this is your only proof, I suggest you lock this thread, because that isn't sufficient evidence to make this allegation.
3898  Economy / Lending / Re: Require 0.002 BTC loan on: November 08, 2019, 06:22:24 PM
Hi there I need a 0.002 BTC loan if anyone can provide, I am able repay in 1 week with 10% interest.

Really will be a great help if you can help me.

Do you have anything to offer as collateral?

I get it, an $18 loan isn't a huge risk for some of us, but you are not active and people have been scammed for less.
3899  Economy / Reputation / Re: Known Alts of any-one - A User Generated List Mk III (2019 Q4) on: November 08, 2019, 04:17:41 PM
You are correct. He is insane, and you are not connected until he can provide further substantiating evidence. I have left you a counter rating until Timelord either deletes your negative or explains to me personally the connection.

If I'm not mistaken, Timelord2067's allegation stems solely from walletexplorer's links to this address quoted here:

~
won the game please pay here: 1Bat7qkbWDjN3SqXYyYCmBqKNbTsnuZsVY

The link to the other addresses can be established by searching for irfan_pak10's address at walletexplorer.com.  Indeed, the results of that search suggests that the address irfan_pak10 used in the post above is part of wallet 0523ba5fba, which contains addresses that are linked to other accounts on this forum, some with negative trust.

I don't know how accurate the results are from walletexplorer.com.  It could be part of an exchange's, or a gambling site's wallet.  Or it could be the wallet of an account farmer.
3900  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Missing receiving address in my bitcoin wallet on: November 08, 2019, 02:57:22 PM
But I just checked the Remote Settings and saw, that "Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer" option was enabled (I don't know why).

That option is enabled on Windows by default.  It doesn't matter, because you would have to manually start a "Remote Assistance" session to grant anyone access to your computer.  If you haven't used that feature then that's not your issue.

HCP, yes, I copy-pasted (in txt) a few addresses from my Addresses list and everything was fine.
But I didn't try yet to test a direct payment to my btc wallet (to be honest, I'm afraid to do that). Maybe I should test with a small amount. But today I got a btc payment through my website and everything is fine.

In your original post you said that you copy and pasted your receiving address, how did you share it with the person who was to send you the payment?  Did you email it to him, use a messaging app, social media..?
