A+ for the effort but yeah... what AdolfinWolf said.

This new wave of CH's "friends and family" isn't interested in solutions. I just wish we stopped responding to them and stopped red-trusting them - that just adds fuel to the fire.

Lol, yeah maybe you and AdolfinWolf are right.  I didn't mean to come off sounding like Rodney King, but really; can't we all just get along?
4822  Other / Meta / Focus on solutions & avoid personal attacks. on: April 15, 2019, 02:18:01 PM
The Meta board has really turned into a shitshow lately.  I have no interest in reading yet another rant about the Merit Mafia or the DT Gestapo.  To make things worse; it's become obvious that some members are using alt accounts (maybe multiple alts) to spam their personal attacks over and over again.

I have a very practical suggestion to those who are displeased with the current system.  I'll pass on a bit of wisdom from my corporate management training courses: Stop attacking the people, and start attacking the problem; stop laying blame, and start laying the groundwork for a solution.

Many of the merit sources and DT members are well established, trusted, and accomplished members of this community.  Continuing to attack them does nothing to resolve the issues (real or perceived) with the system.  Personal attacks will only earn you more enemies, more red tags, and less credibility.

If you feel some members are abusing their DT power or their Merit Source standing, present your evidence and allow the community to decide.  Take the personal agenda out of the equation.

If you don't like the system, make suggestions that will improve it.  Even if you don't have any suggestions, but don't like an aspect of the system, open the dialogue approaching the issue with a goal towards a resolution.  You might be surprised at how much support you find.

There have been a couple of threads with solution oriented goals in mind, and I'll give kudos to the folks who started those threads.  We need more of this type of discourse.  Note: I've disagreed with both OPs in these cases, but none the less I find the discourse helpful.

Should we rename Trust list to Feedback list?

4823  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Can someone buy a software for me with paypal? I'd pay in bitcoin + 10% on: April 14, 2019, 10:00:14 PM
Only reputable members, software is 245 euros. I'll go first, but I will only trade with people with history here.

What is the software you want to buy?
4824  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for small loan of 0.007 on: April 14, 2019, 05:18:09 PM
i want to purchase the software and im not going to risk exchanging the btc for alt currency.

You're not making any sense.

If making this purchase is putting BTC at risk, what's the difference where the BTC came from?  You're still accountable for it, and if this isn't an attempted fake escrow scam, you'll be the one losing either way.

4825  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for small loan of 0.007 on: April 14, 2019, 04:48:11 PM
yes thats exactly what im saying.

Why don't you just "borrow" the bitcoin from yourself?
4826  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for small loan of 0.007 on: April 14, 2019, 03:07:53 PM
~
I have 0.036045 in luno wallet that I am willing to put into escrow.
~
No physical collateral only bitcoin as collateral which I am willing to put into escrow.

Are you saying that you have 0.036045 bitcoin in your Luno Exchange wallet?  And you're willing the offer that bitcoin as collateral to borrow bitcoin?
4827  Other / Meta / Re: A call to theymos and the rest. on: April 12, 2019, 04:53:41 PM
I strongly agree with the initial poster, in that the admin or even the board owner should intervene if there are instances where red trust is given out in a frivolous or vindictive manner.

Admin doesn't need to intervene, the DT community has been doing a good job policing themselves.  Stick around long enough and you'll see members being dropped from DT2 when suspected of distributing tags for frivolous or vindictive reasons.  It's happened at least a couple of times in recent months.
4828  Other / Meta / Re: Is Merit Requirement Per Rank Excessive? on: April 12, 2019, 04:45:47 PM
~but I would expect for at least thousands to have enough activity to be a hero.~

That's why the merit system was implemented.  You now need to actually contribute to the forum rather than just stay logged-in for the requisite time period and spew enough off-topic shitposts to rank up.  Again, I don't know what's an acceptable number of members that the community thinks should be ranking up, but as Loyce's data shows 76 members were able to earn enough merit to reach hero.

Now, I don't know what your idea of a "Hero" is, but I've always used the word in an rather exclusive manner.  Not to mention "Legendary."
4829  Other / Meta / Re: Is Merit Requirement Per Rank Excessive? on: April 12, 2019, 04:15:01 PM
I am currently the 95th most merited person on the forum and in the just under 16 months since the merit system was introduced, I have not yet received sufficient merit required to become a hero member. I was around when a lot of sMerit was airdropped to everyone and a lot of merit was being given out by a lot of people. There are more merit sources now, but much fewer people are now giving out merit.

The above means less than 95 people have become hero members, I know only a small handful of people have become legendary. I don’t know off hand how many have become senior members but I am pretty sure it isn’t many.

Based on the above, I think the merit system needs to be tinkered with a little bit.

I don't see that as a big deal.  After 16 months, and you're almost a self-made Hero Member.  That seems like a reasonable time frame.

I had zero experience with cryptocurrency when I joined the forum a year ago, and that last time I did any coding was over 25 years ago.  I try to be helpful, courteous (mostly,) and share what I learn, and despite my lack of technical knowledge I was able to attain Sr. Member status in about 11 months.

I don't know what a reasonable time frame for ranking up is, but it's bound to take some of us longer than others.  Some of the members that rank up quickly are spending many hours a day on the forum, and making hundreds of posts a week.

4830  Other / Meta / Re: A call to theymos and the rest. on: April 12, 2019, 01:59:52 PM
Yep, it's an alt alright.  My guess is that it's St4yInTh3D4rk who has been under suspicion of having alts in various campaigns, maybe two in the same campaign, dealing in hacked accounts, and abusing merit.  Very similar grammar and punctuation errors.

I'm now convinced that jrrsparkles, semobo, and St4yInTh3D4rk are under the control of the same person.  There may me more accounts yet to discover.  Those three accounts in particular seem to have the same posting styles, use the same broken English, and make the same punctuation errors.  The evidence is all circumstantial, and I would prefer to find blockchain connections between the addresses used by the accounts.  Unfortunately I have not been able to.

If true, the owner of these accounts is abusing the Bustadice campaign by having the accounts jrrsparkles and St4yInTh3D4rk enrolled concurrently.

jrrsparkles: *none found*
semobo: 12thqwSQVwsfjFJ6FExGme6oiFv3h3fudB
St4yInTh3D4rk: 12oJAhTPSm3u12kwEqDoBAYGCgxR4tZK6h

Once again, St4yInTh3D4rk has been silent since the prospects of alt accounts was mentioned.  That also seems odd.

In the quest to clean up the forum,i feel there is need to be considerate.I appreciate the fact that we need to maintain some check and balance in the forum, but it is bad when some innocent become a victim all in the name of trying to maintain some check and balance in the forum.I don't know why some guys have turned to police overnight in the forum, hunting for people, claiming that they are running multiple account,at times ,most of their proof are not strong enough as far as am concern because we all know that, this is internet where anything is possible.Though some might feel, the so called police are doing all these to clean up the forum, but you know what i see,
1.I see hatred been demonstrated to some section of the forum.
2.I see people that are desperate to earn some merit by using other people as a bait.
3.I see people that are seeking to be known by the administrator by pretending to be cleaning the forum.
4.I see opportunist

I feel the administrator can actually run the check and balance by themselves instead of leaving the destiny of people on this forum at the mercy of these desperate set of people.I want you all to know that, the forum need the people just like the people need the forum. If care is not taken, more desperate guys will take advantage of this and more innocent will become a victim, and this can later result to,if i can't beat them, then,i will join them.Am calling on theymos and the rest to do some review.
I know we have got a good administrator,in the person of theymos.

Quoted for reference.
4831  Economy / Lending / Re: BTC / ETH / BCH Loans 0% - Small Short Term Loans Only - Reputable Members Only on: April 12, 2019, 01:41:01 PM
To build my reputation on these forums...

Why do you think you need to give free bitcoin loans to earn a reputation?  Why are you so concerned about "building" a reputation?  Your reputation will be assessed base on your character, not your ability to fund loans.  Browse the forum, engage in the discussions, be patient.  You're reputation will follow, it's up to you.

Furthermore; expect a shitload of newbies to apply for $25 loans they'll never pay back.

Welcome aboard.

~snip~

I really don't want to derail this thread, but your response brought up more questions.

@DireWolfM14, bob123's answer is completely correct Smiley

Thanks again.  I'll send you a PGP encrypted file with my IP this evening.

In a discussion about a "white list" Electrum server that Bitcointalk member mocacinno was generous enough to make available to members of the forum, I asked a simple question that brought up more questions.  Rather than derail that thread I'll ask my further questions here.

The question was in regard to using my dedicated IP feature made available by my VPN service provider to connect to mocacinno's server:

I have a question; will it work if send you my dedicated IP that's provided by my VPN service provider?

If you connect to the electrum server via your VPN, yes.

This means.. if you route all of your traffic through your VPN, yes it works.

A little bit off-topic.. but.. Do you have a good reason to use a VPN? Like circumventing geo-blocking / ISP blocking or connecting from an insecure Wifi ?
Because privacy-wise it is horrible to route all traffic through a VPN.

@bob123, could you please elaborate?  Why is a horrible idea privacy-wise, to rout all my traffic through my VPN?  I don't need it for geo-routing, and my wired and wifi connections are secure.

4836  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: private Electrum Server [bitcointalk members only] on: April 11, 2019, 01:28:32 PM
If you still want to connect to my private node, send your public ip to me using a PM.

This is quite generous of you, thanks for the offer.

I have a question; will it work if send you my dedicated IP that's provided by my VPN service provider?

You say that like it's a bad thing.
4838  Other / Meta / Re: Should we rename Trust list to Feedback list? on: April 10, 2019, 08:54:07 PM
Most people use their trust list to list trading partners...

Those people are not using the trust list the way it's intended.  Feedback is what you leave for people with whom you have conducted successful trades.  The trust list should only include those users who's feedback you find valuable, and who's judgment you find trustworthy.  The two might overlap, but they are not same thing.

4839  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Homosexuality is a dangerous mental disorder on: April 10, 2019, 08:47:54 PM
The images posted in the OP refer to articles about people who are trying to normalize pedophilia.  I'm not defending the OP, as it seems he is unable to distinguish between homosexuality and pedophilia.  They are not the same.

Homosexuals are not pedophiles.  Pedophiles, regardless of the gender of their victims are not homosexuals.  The two are not interlinked.

Pedophilia is dangerous, and it most certainly is a mental disorder.

4840  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Another assault for wearing MAGA hat, retaliates with a sword #magasamurai on: April 10, 2019, 06:58:31 PM
I do not condone violence, but particularly in this case, the man attempted to first run but was then chased, and then eventually turned to fight off his attackers using a sword.

The article you linked to claims the alleged "assailant" slashed at the guy who knocked his hat off.  Carrying a knife with a blade longer than 3" in San Francisco is a violation, which is probably why this guy is getting treated the way he is.  But obviously he was instigating the situation by wearing his assault hat, so there's that.

My kids came to pick me up from SFO the other night, so we stopped in the Mission for burritos.  I got, not one, but three dirty looks for wearing a woodland camo hat.  The only reason those dirty looks didn't turn into dirty words, chaffed knuckles, and bloody noses is because the woodland camo hat in question is adorned with a SF 49ers logo.

For such peace-loving, hippy-filled, progressive city it sure is full of intolerant bigots.
